Special Features:
Corell OmniPod Tech: The Eharl-class Assault Starfighter is one of the first products to utilize the updated OmniPod suite. This affords the craft with a higher degree of versatility in conducting operations.
J9 Remote Command System: The Eharl-class is fitted with the J9a Remote Command System, allowing it to be remotely controlled. This reduces collisions upon launch and landing on carrier ships, particularly in high-stress combat environments.
Maneuverability Rating: 4
Speed Rating: 4
Hyperdrive Class: Class 1
Strengths:
Firepower: Given its larger-than-average size, the Eharl is also equipped with a larger-than-average payload. This gives it the capacity to engage both as an assault starfighter and as a light bomber.
Weaknesses:
Size: The Eharl-class is not a small starfighter. At nearly three times the size of the average starfighter, it's profile cannot be hidden from sensors. As well, it's far more likely to sustain damage, even with its speed and maneuverability, as the increased size makes for a larger target.
Speed and Maneuverability: The Eharl-class is not as fast as other starfighters, nor is it as maneuverable, as a product of its size. This means its more vulnerable to anti-starfighter fire from capital ships and care must be taken with regard to deployment. Even though the Eharl-class does possess an above-average shield and armor rating compared to their smaller counterparts, the issue of speed remains a hindrance when coupled with it's size.
Description:
The development for the Eharl-class Assault Starfighter began shortly after the initial deployment of the OmniPod technology with the Wasp-class. Early on it was known that the Wasp-class had limitations, including the limited production and deployment while field tests and reports were made. Despite the few numbers of the Wasp-class that were deployed, the overall reports coming back were very positive. Technicians praised the craft for ease of repair and reconfiguration while the pilots were pleased with the ability to alter payloads in very little time as sometimes mission intel was slightly off. This ability, the ability to completely reconfigure the ship's entire armament, saved many a mission from failing before ever being launched.
Taking these lessons learned, the second generation of OmniPod starfighters was born. The first thing that sets the Eharl apart from the Wasp is its size. At nearly three times the size of the Wasp, the Eharl boasts an impressive armament to complement its size. Only five Eharl starfighters compose a squadron, but those five have no trouble achieving the effect of a full twelve fighter squadron. The two smaller A pod mounts are placed to the immediate left and right of the cockpit while the heavier A/B pod mounts are held in the main body across a gap from the cockpit. An A-Type pod is mounted on a turret mount to give the fighter the capability to ward off pursuing fighters.
