OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION

  • Military Base Name: Fort Alexander

  • Classification: Command centre

  • Location: Zernia

  • Affiliation: The Azure Imperium

  • Population:

    Up to 500 permanent staff

  • Up to 10,000 individuals can fit into the base at any given time at a squeeze (though rarely does it even reach close to this number). Optimal numbers are more likely around 2500.

[*]
Accessibility: The entire complex is walled off from the outside world, both using barbed wire fences, concrete walls and the natural surrounding environment, being encased in a mountain range. Access to the base is restricted through a number of checkpoints leading up to the centre itself, though most visitors use the landing pads of the base for transportation to it, due to it simply being faster. Access is usually restricted to authorized personnel only, though during state visits some civilians may be permitted entry.

[*]
Description: While the structures above ground may give the impression of a small outpost, do not be fooled. Architecture over the decades has ensured that Fort Alexander, named after the current Emperor that commissioned the expansion of the original facility, is the primary location of all military activity within the Imperium.

POINTS OF INTEREST
Security gate
A rather mundane looking and sounding structure. While not being much, it keeps the majority of threats that the base faces out, and can be opened and closed as necessary.
Launch pads
The majority of traffic incoming and outgoing of the base is done through these launch pads. Whether it be food, supplies or troops, these play a vital role in ensuring that the base can continue to run in relative isolation from the rest of society.
Primary underground entrance
Two large structures which lead down to the base’s underground facilities. These can be closed as necessary, and are reinforced to withstand even the most drastic of weather conditions.
Biotic research facility
While the name may suggest otherwise, this is a vital hub for the Imperium’s research into new weapons technology. Many of the faction’s top scientists gather here to develop new technology for the legions of the Empire.
Command Hub
The brain of the Imperium’s military operations can be found here. Dozens upon dozens of rooms are dedicated from anything such as theatres of war to managing the logistics or parades of the military.
Residential floor
An entire floor has been carved out to ensure the staff of the base have comfortable living conditions. There can be anything from individual ensuite rooms to a mess hall, both for guests and permanent residents. Additionally, an entertainment facility can be found here.
Floor 10
Most have never ventured down to floor 10, which is the deepest the underground facility goes. Many speculate it harbours a weapon of mass destruction, while some think it’s simply just an empty floor. In truth, it is the most secure area to be found in the entire base, requiring several high ranking officers to initiate the opening sequence of its doors. While it is a mundane floor with nothing on it, enough food rations exist to feed thousands of people for decades. A blast door also exists, concealed from the outside world to escape into the vast series of tunnels leading into an underwater reserve of water.

SECURITY
High Security - Only authorized individuals are permitted entry
Surface level defenses
4x watchtowers armed by 4x armed guards each
8x anti-aircraft cannons located both within the base and on the mountain range surrounding it
While not in the base, surrounding facilities are close enough to provide fighter support, though response time is often delayed.
Interior defenses
Hundreds of both wall and ground mounted auto turrets, which are disabled and hidden until needed
Security personnel
150 permanently stationed security personnel, increased when security risk is high.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Fort Alexander wasn’t always known as such, and its roots can be found out of the Imperium’s control. Originally constructed by a republic who’s history has long been forgotten, when the Empire’s forces gained control of the planet they quickly sought to restore this strategic location.

While of little importance in the earlier years, it was recently commissioned by Emperor Alexander to receive a complete overhaul, not only upgrading its defenses but improving its status to be one of the most significant places for the Imperium’s Military High Command.

Though it has remained untouched by hostile forces nowadays, it was a hot target for a group of radical terrorists decades ago who attempted to plant a ‘dirty’ bomb during a state visit from the Consul of the Senate. While it was disarmed, this scare tactic has since caused the base to be shut off from outside visitors, and official visits from non-military personnel must be planned for months in advance. To receive access during these visits, civilians must apply and receive a full background check before entering the facility.
