DESCRIPTION |
The Brotherhood of the Maw had announced their attempt to open a New Age in the Galaxy with their Annihilation of Csilla, the Chiss Homeworld. It was this total act of destruction that seemed to shake the Chiss awake from their slumber to shed the idea of a Defense-Only Doctrine that they had held onto for countless generations. With the Galactic Alliance aiding in the rebuilding of the Chiss Ascendancy in the wake of Csilla's destruction, and a new conflict dawning on the horizon, it seemed only a matter of time before the Chiss rose to aid in preventing another catastrophe such as that which befell Csilla. Thus, the GADF Csapla-class Star Destroyer was born, the first new warship of the Chiss that slipped from the Unknown Regions. Designed to focus on providing a heavier class of warship, the Csapla-class is known to have a limited hangar capacity, a direct reflection of an increase in armaments and defensive capabilities. This limited hangar capacity has resulted in the Capital Ship being capable of fielding two squadrons of Starfighters, though it often must rely on Carriers to provide additional Starfighters during an engagement. Likewise, though bristling with increased firepower and a higher defensive rating, the Csapla-class must form up alongside an enemy vessel in order to fully bring to bear its heaviest of weaponry - with this broadside tactic often placing the vessel in a precarious position to counterfire. The increase in its defensive capabilities has also resulted in a decrease in its overall speed compared to standard Star Destroyers or Capital Ships that favor increased speed as a primary focus. Overall, the GADF Csapla-class is worth its weight in credits even with its drawbacks, whilst providing a Capital Ship that can easily complement the strengths and weaknesses of vessels that it will be deployed alongside. Its heavier armaments and increased defensive rating more than make up for its lack of hangar capacity and its decreased speed. The time when the Chiss could easily sit back and let an enemy come to them was shattered when Csilla was annihilated, and it is the Csapla-class that serves as this reminder, that the Chiss, now more than ever, must be proactive in dealing with a threat. |
