Public It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad Galaxy

neil-burn-runner-new-light-no-runner-01-post.jpg

The wind howled across the rocky wastes. Soon it was followed by the whine of engines blaring. A run down speeder raced through the canyon. "Can this piece of junk go any faster?!" A yellow Twi'lek yelled in frustration at her human boyfriend in the driver's seat.

"Sweetheart, we'll be there soon. This speeder has never let me down."

Devin answered with a confident grin as his long brown hair blew in the air. Rari rolled her eyes, annoyed with Devin's never-ending obsession with his precious vehicle. She tolerates it as long as they reach their destination without anyone noticing. Word had gotten around that the lost treasure of Jabba the Hutt had been found in the Jundland Wastes. This was supported by credible evidence including leaked footage and photos of the vault's entrance along with its exact coordinates.

The anonymous source further revealed the location was in a cave in the eastern side and only accessible by speedercraft or on foot. The very thought of the treasure causes Rari to smirk, dreaming of the untold riches that laid in store. Of course briefly she wondered why someone would publicly reveal the vault to begin with and not loot it for themselves.

That is pretty weird but who cares. Treasure here I come.

Just as she thought that a sudden blaster shot struck Devin in the back of the head. Devin's now lifeless body collapsed sideways, causing the speeder to twist to the left and Rari screamed just as the vehicle crashed into a large rock, killing her instantly. Moments later a dozen swoop bikes flew by as the leader, a Gotal in front, called out to his Zabark partner.

"Nice shot Amon."

However, the swoop gang weren't alone. From behind and the other pathways were various speeders, bikes, skiffs and even one sandcrawler, creating a great cloud of dust in their wake. Already blasterfire was being exchanged between many of those involved this crazed race.

Among them, Minevra riding on a swoop bike from behind the main column, trying to keep up. Considering the situation the Mandalorian couldn't help but think.

The Jundland Wastes are not to be traveled lightly…

The young warrior can care less about some dead slug’s loot but she joined in the treasure hunt anyway. Because Minerva wanted a worthy challenge and perhaps she could find it among this rabble. At the thought she grew excited, tightening her grip on the swoop bike before speeding toward the host of treasure seekers.

The mad dash and free for all continued on without stop. Laser shots, screams and the whine of engines filled the air. Gripping tightly the controls of her bike Minerva swerved back and forth while at the rear of the main column. On the left flank a party of four moisture farmers on a large speeder were hollering and shooting in the air and tossing beer bottles like it was a party.

One farmer in the back noted Minevra meters away. Subsequently he called out to the driver. "Hey Larsen, let's ram that bucket head over here." Noting the target Larsen let out a wild cheer. "Oh yea let's shoot her!"

Minerva had only a moment's warning when the truck twisted toward her side. Swearing in Mando'a she pulled the brakes back, avoiding a collision. Seeing the drunkerns laughing and dodging potshots from them she realized it had been intentional. Scowling underneath the helmet Minerva increased thrusters before firing into the speeder engines. Seconds later it ignited and caused the speeder to violently overturn to the right side and rolled three times before it crashed, killing and wounding all its passengers.

"Those reckless fools must’ve been drunk." She muttered angrily. Minerva chased after the makeshift convoy once more as it pressed on further into the wastes.

Viz Harridan had a lot of identities nowadays: Scrapper, Larcenist and mechanic were the originals... Associate for the Family and Ivory Stroud Ivory Stroud and one of Marcella Fiora Marcella Fiora "chosen" were new... "Fatally Cursed" was the big one though.

As she gunned her swoop and dodged through the din of in-fighting and rubber-necked a partnered bike with a roughened looking Twilek get one of their pilots shot through, she blinked through her lenses and marveled at her fortunes.

After parting with the Family and letting Marcy and Kardek Alpha Kardek Alpha know about what she'd found out about the Eye of Koda in her collection of research, she'd found herself halfway across the galaxy searching for a cure. Now, she was desperate enough to try to see if the "lost treasure of Jabba the Hutt" might prove fruitful in helping her find the resources she sought to actually break the curse.

"Pay kriffing attention you slack jawed schuta!" Stilza screeched at her, and Viz leaned hard as the Mandalorian near her braked hard, very narrowly avoiding a second hand collision. Stilza used Viz's hand to shoot the Mando a rude gesture and cranked the swoop pushing it forward.

Those who knew Viz knew about the three other personalities who controlled her body due to a dissociative disorder she'd had since she was small. Those who didn't know her just thought she was a crazy Flak who talked to herself. Either way, it kept most people at arms length which she preferred.

She continued into the fray, praying her luck would hold out as long as the Cursed Stone would allow.

She can barely hear herself think in the midst of this loud bedlam of engines. Nevertheless Minerva pushed down on the throttle before dodging a near collision. Just then the armored warrior spotted another woman on a swoop flipping her off. Initially surprised by the defiant gesture Minerva suddenly laughed out loud.

Grinning beneath her helm the young Mandalorian thought. In that case... Then without warning Minerva banks toward Viz's direction, knocking against the swoop briefly. Pulling back she displayed a rude gesture with her right hand before laughing again. Before Minerva could try to speak, an explosion erupted up ahead.

To her astonishment she spotted in front of them was an old Imperial recon transport. Its turret aimed toward her direction again Minerva swifty took evasive action. Swinging right and left then vice versa to avoid the murderous fire Minerva couldn't help but think.

Well I wanted excitement and I got it.

As for Viz, she would soon have her own problems. Coming alongside her from the left was an open green landspeeder. Its occupants were four mostly armed Rodians except for the driver who called out to her in Huttese. “Chateua yae kung!” Two of the alien gunmen tried to shoot toward Viz with their pistols.

Viz laughed heartily as the Mando sideswiped her and flipped her off. This was the kind of action she loved and the Helmeted Harpy ( Minerva Fhirdiad Minerva Fhirdiad ) had spirit, and that she liked.

Suddenly, though, a spray of fire from an imperial turret shattered the air and Viz released her thrust and fell back, narrowly avoiding the fire. All for naught, however, as a loudly colored landspeeder transporting angry looking Rodians opened fire on her.

Unable to take any evasive action, she allowed Stilza the opportunity to slam into control of her body and ducked a bolt, deflecting three more with
her poorly vented lightsaber. It cracked in protest and she felt the hilt shudder when it hit. She shut it off quickly to avoid risking an overheat, and taking control of both handles, Stilza kicked the swoop into gear and sped up.

Snitch, her Kowakian Monkey-Lizard popped his head out from her saddle bag, and she shoved him back in, narrowly avoiding his teeth. "Not the time, Fart" Stilza snapped as the Rodian's redoubled their efforts. She unclipped her blaster and took two shots, picking off two of the Rodians in turn, including the pilot. The speeder lost control and dove to the right, immediately into a sand bank. Stilza grinned. Viz rolled her metaphorical eyes. "Show off."

There was no time, the Wastes were steadily narrowing to a canyon, sharp cliff faces beginning to loom. Stilza tapped her HUD interface. It was a maze they were headed into, with no room for error.

The turret didn't let up. Shot after shot flew back toward Minerva, forcing the warrior to swerve repeatedly from one side to another. With each passing second a bolt came closer to hitting her. Finally one cut the edge of her shoulder pad. Beneath the helm Minerva gritted her teeth in both pain and frustration.

It's official, they're starting to piss me off.

In desperation the Mandalorian increased the thrusters, pushing closer to the rival transport. The latter's turret managed to hit a speeder truck several times behind her, before it exploded. Taking advantage of the diversion Minerva managed to alongside the armored vehicle on the left flank and out of the gun's sight. Not one to be satisfied with just escaping, Minerva finally let go of a handle to grab for something when the transport swung to her direction.

Alarmed, she was being shoved toward an incoming large rock wall. Immediately she jumped off her swoop bike, activating her jetpack before the former smashed into stone. Now flying and thoroughly pissed Minerva dive for the transport while its gun was firing on other targets.

Coming in low she grabbed onto the transport's right side and hung on. Subsequently Minerva pulled an explosive charge priming then placing it on the hull. She waited for a few moments before jumping off and flying away. Swifty an explosion followed, wrecking the transport into chunks of flaming metal.

At the sight Minerva uttered a victorious cheer. "Hettir laosr hettir!" She exclaimed in Mando'a now soaring with the rest of the competitors as they entered the canyon.

Meanwhile two gangsters(one Aqualish and the other Bothan) riding on swoop bikes were coming up on Viz. The Aqualish drew a chain with one arm, swinging it high above as he came closer and closer. He intended to hit the snapper with it while his partner tried to slam his bike into Viz's.

CURSE SUMMARY

Sum of 1 for Piloting playing adverse effects. Viz makes an amazing Piloting feat.
HP: 89

The chain missed the snapper but hit her square in the shoulder. She pushed with her Force Knack and managed to regain some balance as the bike wobbled and shook. The pain was excruciating though, and she used her good arm to right the Bike, aiming true into the canyon rather than the side, where she would have exploded against the rocks. She drew forward cutting off the Bothan, forcing both bike partners to follow her single file into the canyon.

She flicked a switch for the mini-turret on the back of her bike and sprayed blaster fire at the two, putting on speed. Glancing up, she saw the Mando ( Minerva Fhirdiad Minerva Fhirdiad .) skirting the canyon trench by way of her jet pack.

"Lucky, Schuta" Stilza said, and Viz let her keep control over the body. Stilza's reflexes were better, even with one dead arm, and she would need the advantage. The Mando was fast, even without a conveyance.

The fire-spray hadn't slowed down her Bothan and Aqualish Biker Bros, and now the Aqualish was gearing up to take another swing at her with the chain. The Bothan, somewhat distracted, was attempting to shoot at the Mandalorian in mid-flight.

"If you can get that chain around the spoiler you can drag him down." Viz said to Stilza, sharply.

"What do I look like, a Fekkin Gamorean?" Stizla retorted.

"No but if you can angle it right and barrel roll it will catch."

"Are you seriou?, I'm doing this with one arm, chick."

"You can do it."

Stillza took a breath and watched as the Biker Bro let loose. She tilted the bike, nudging the chain slightly and catching it on the spoiler. It was some fekking miracle that it caught and she immediately wrenched herself hard into a roll, twisting the chain around.

The Biker Bro veered off into the wall, exploding into shards of metal and bio-matter. in tandem she leaned back sharply, severing the chain with her lightsaber and re-engaging the bike into full throttle.

Just in time... the canyon was taking a sharp turn and the Mandalorian seemed to be dealing with her own issues and two gliders flanked her from behind on either side, each conveying a Weequay in a lower face mask. The were closing in on her without her noticing. Stilza shot them, one and then the other, watching them drop like mynocks.

She chuckled. She didn't want her main competition out of the race too soon....

Soaring through the air Minerva beamed in joy. It is exhilarating to fly like this. Ever since a child jetpacks had fascinated her. That passion greatly motivated Minerva through the harsh training in jetpack flight. Now to the present day all of the effort is paying off for the moment.

Just then she heard blaster-fire when seconds later Minerva saw two Weequay gilders falling. Glancing back further she noted it is the crazy lady from before.

Still in the race are we? Good, I hate disappointments when it comes to competition. Of course the Mandalorian quickly realized she now owed this competitor a debt.

Assuming she survives, I'll try to repay it somehow.

Further thought was interrupted as the competitors went further into the canyon. Four moisture farmers riding a landspeeder were speeding ahead of both. One of them in the back must be drunk because he fired blaster shots high in the air while hollering at the top of his lungs. Suddenly a tentacle sprang out from the sand gripping the vehicle, dragging it down with its occupants as they fell screaming into the awaiting mouth of a sarlacc.

Minerva pressed on ignoring what happened. To her chagrin however, she spotted a massive sandstorm coming in the distance. By the ancestors that's huge!

This race is going to get even more interesting than before.

The Droid, the Myth, the Legend
Suddenly a new competitor joins in the race, the Droid decided to participate in the race, at closer inspection the Droid in question was a B1 Battle Droid which was incredibly rare to see especially on this planet, although unbeknownst to his fellow competitors, 173 has visited Tatooine on various occasions throughout his operational history, an unsung hero of the Clone War and Galactic Civil War and other conflicts so long ago in which both wars are considered to be a second hand memory rather than something important as this mad, mad Galaxy keeps on turning and turning nonstop.

This did not phase B1-173, along his journey throughout the Galaxy he has lost many friends, fulfilled many missions for his superiors and have fought within countless armies throughout history, many people do not recognise what B1-173 is notable for but he usually keeps to himself especially after decades of being deactivated only to return a few years ago out from the shadows, the Droid thought it was a great idea to redeem himself to the Galaxy once more one small bit at a time and took an old STAP which he was mostly familiarised with the speeder's configuration, better yet it came with two blasters mounted onto its front and was supermaneuverable to avoid being struck by any objects or hostile fire.

The Droid accelerated his speeder to catch up with the others as he was behind the rest of the crowd and was a large arrival to the race, B1-173 gazed up quickly towards the horizon and noticed that the dust storm was approaching rather quickly which prompted him to continue to catch up with the others, he came behind another speeder and noticed that it was armed, the occupants within the speeder noticed the STAP catching up to them and they attempted to fire at B1-173, knowingly, B1-173 avoided the fire as he turned his speeder into various directions to avoid being struck, it was rather difficult for him to do so as they were passing through a tight canyon and his sensors, interconnected into the STAP locked his targeting computer onto the speeder ahead of them and decided to fire at it, swiftly blasting the speeder and causing it to crash into the canyon's adjacent wall in which B1-173 managed to narrowly avoid as they now exited the canyon. After dispatching the guilders in their speeder, B1-173 felt the joy as he continued to catch up with the other racers of the competition.

"That's what you get for even trying to return fire without looking ahead, foolish organic lifeforms."

Following the mess which ensued, B1-173 was now catching up to the competitors and began to increase his STAP's speed to catch up with yet another party of individual which contested his efforts to reach whatever the others were searching for, B1-173 was never informed on what the subject was in regards of why this was happening but he decided to join the fray as he felt a large spike in euphoria which was rather falsely felt as Droids can never have true emotions despite how hard they may try, however B1-173 was different than the majority of Droids and most importantly more unique in terms of how B1s usually function, after all he was a Mark III unit, a rare and expensive variation of the standardised regular Mark 1s which had more autonomy, independence, personality, intelligence and were much, much more lethal in combat scenarios although fortunately for the Republic, the Mark IIIs were produced only in smaller quantities and can be confirmed as being extinct by the contemporary time period, with B1-173 being the only remainder of a long forgotten conflict.

Continuing onwards, B1-173 was travelling at around 375 km/h compared to the other races as he zoomed by various speeders which laid within his way, he noticed ahead that yet another canyon was coming and he needed to slow his speeder down to avoid a collision to the surrounding rocky walls of the enclosed canyon, he looked behind and noticed he was being tailed by aggressive competitors as they began to wastefully and relentlessly fire their blasters as 173 as he began to whip speedily within the enclosed canyon, noticing a shortcut which bended around the canyon towards their objective, B1-173 seized the opportunity in avoiding being struck from the rear and zoomed into the bend, he narrowly began avoiding several obstructions which were within his pathway and he saw a naturally formed rock ramp which he used to jump over the main thong of speeders, with the stunt he made, the Droid slowed his speeder and caused his interceptors to pass by whilst he was in the sky, subsequently without hesitation B1-173 began to adjust his speeder towards their direction whilst travelling through the sky and fired the twin blasters towards the speeder which was on his rear prior, causing it to be hit several times the speeder was disabled and caused it to flip over several times with its occupants either being dead of severely injured, B1-173 then closed into the crashed speeder and fired into it causing it to finally explode and be engulfed by flames with its debris flying apart, B1-173 zipping through the area to catch up with the others as he avoided the flaming metallic debris. The Droid then happily remarked and exclaimed in exhilaration of the situation.

"How am I doing this, aren't you meatbags meant to be experienced with your swoops? Although, yet again. These ones are more appealing to the flock."

This race has became rather the occasion indeed...

CURSE SUMMARY

Sum of 19 for First Aid, and 11 for General Luck. Minor Bad luck Event
HP: 108

Stilza still couldn't feel her arm, Viz shoved her out and, gripping the saddle with her knees, thighs burning from the efford, grabbed a stimpack from her belt and shoved this needle into her upper arm. Just as it kicked in, she miscalculated the direction she was going in and nearly colided with an outcropping.

"That was fekkin close, Schuta." Stilza snapped and tried to wrest control back. Viz gritted her teeth and held her off, alarmed as the ground opened up a little ways away from her and the hollerin' hick moisture farmers got dragged down by the sarlacc within. Fissures had already formed in the canyon from the interruption of the creature, and ran lengthwise dangerously along the ground. At the same time, a STAP was hurtling in front of the race, piloted by, of all things, an antique battle droid. She nearly laughed out loud, and probably would have if not for the massive tentacle breaking through the ground directly in front of her swoop.

It hit her bike, slapping it carelessly and without intent and causing her to fly clear of her bike. She had the good sense to kick on the auto before she was flung wide. she spared a thought for Snitch who was nested in the saddle bag, praying that the bike wouldn't connect with any rocks or debris, and reached out with the force, cushioning her descent and aiming herself at one of the other vehicles behind her.

She was lucky. She managed to grab a hold of one of the rear canons of a BARC speeder as it streamed past and caught her foot solidly on a rear control flap. She used this as leverage and hoisted herself on, grabbing the flightsuit of the humanoid (she had no clue who or what it was) and hauling him off the pilots seat.

"Sorry." She grunted half-heartedly as she yanked herself into the seat. She increased speed, pulling up along side her swoop and, with some finesse she didnt really know how she managed, scooped Snitch out of the saddle bag and disengaged the bikes auto, sending it hurtling into the canyon wall.

The Droid, the Myth, the Legend
"Wow this is wild, I can't believe I am actually ahead of most people now. Considering that, I should keep a watch on my rear and maybe take any shortcuts around the main pathway.. Yeah, that sounds good. Maybe they'll even follow my lead to, which presents itself an opportunity and also something rather daunting to think about."

Right after finishing his self-monologue to convince him to make the proper decisions during the race, B1-173 glanced behind himself and noticed that he was being chased and intercepted by Guilders in their speeders, as he was being chased, B1-173 quickly looked around the area, scanning and surveying his surroundings in which he saw a shortcut to take which presented itself to the Droid, as such he accelerated the speed on his STAP which began to zip forward and with an extra thrust to the speeder, the Droid was propelled in the STAP towards the shortcut in which he manoeuvred through with quick thinking and with his sensors proving adequate for the scenario, as he continued to travel through the enclosed cut the Guilders were distracted by following the Droid and getting ahead for their prize rather than focus on their own safety and well-being, as such these specific Guilders crashed into the sides of the narrow pass which killed them as the explosions collapsed the pathway of the shortcut behind the Droid, giving him the chance to seize the chance to quickly reach the destination marked on his HUD.

As he continued to travel on the speeding STAP, reaching up to 400 km/h at this rate which is immensely fast compared to some of the other speeders and vehicles participating in this race. He noticed yet another Sarlacc pit which awaited him ahead, choosing the obvious and most sane option, B1-173 simply attempted to manoeuvre around the Sarlacc in hopes of not being whipped of his speeder and more worse being completely taken into the mouth of the beast. He now gambled for his own life as he has for over a millennia now, quickly accelerating more and going to the max speed which the STAP could push, B1-173 then quickly jolted his STAP to the side in which one of the Sarlacc's extended tenticles tried to whip the Droid's speeder but was unsuccessful due to the amount of speed he was travelling, for his interceptors however, it varied on how skilled they were to get through this obstacle in the way, noticing this, B1-173 now interpreted and speculated that there were surely going to be much more Sarlaccs ahead of their journey. 173 then continued to speak to himself again in regards of the occurrence.

"It seems like those creatures aren't going to get away anytime soon, I remember a few times I ended up inside of those things.. It wasn't a pleasant experienced to bare with, but considering that I am a Droid and not an Organic, I may have been lucky just by that difference, because those Sarlaccs don't like consuming metal pieces as their intake. Enough talking because nobody is listening anyway, we're coming in close to the destination, great! Talk about kickstarting my core."

B1-173 happily exclaimed after finishing his squabbling in regards of the Sarlaccs which lingered around, scattered across the vast deserts of Tatooine, he's been to this world quite a few times throughout his operational history, this antique Droid had many stories to tell which stretched for generations upon generations, it is rather a shame that nobody took the care or notice to really consider what he said was true and that his experience in all the different conflicts and important figures he has met was merely a fantasy full of slanders, however the Droid was in fact telling the truth, for the most part, that was. Some of his memories were conflicted with his personality as he boasted a strong self-integral ego and that was true for most B1 models. What they didn't know was that he was much, much more deadlier and surprisingly intelligent compared to his B1 subordinates. Continuing on the journey, B1-173 began to travel through a relatively flat portion of the wastelands which was rather uncommon to come across, this gave him some breathing space to take and a chance to speed to the objective everyone here was seeking out, pushing forward he and his STAP were now taking the lead of the herd.

"You gotta be kidding me! A bloody clanker in the lead?!" Minerva exclaimed, beholding the antics of the ancient Battle Droid. Not too long she fought the newest generation of his kind on Kamino. Yet at the moment she actually didn't feel the urge to blast it.

Still soaring in the middle of the competitors she felt relief upon seeing the distant sandstorm fading away. Yet seeing another sarlacc up ahead she was about to maneuver away but a thought came to her. Smirking viciously, Minerva made a dive toward the screeching beast. rather than avoid like the leading droid Minerva instead dived straight toward it. The sarlacc' s head sprang upwards intending to swallow the armored woman.

Minerva then fired her missile from the jetpack. With a whoosh the rocket flew into the maw of the beast before exploding. Letting out a pained cry and it's tentacles the sarlacc fled back into its pit and Minerva drew away, narrowly dodging one of its massive tentacles.

Back into the race she noted Viz who was now up ahead but this time on a different speeder. Very resourceful. Subsequently the surviving contestants as they sped and maneuvered through the labyrinth of rocks would note the massive cave within a mountain miles away. Regardless of who made it first Minerva would finally land, rolling on the sand before springing up now armed with her blaster rifle.

Little did any of them realize that they were being watched by hidden cam droids within the high rocks, recording them from various angles.

Stars, away a shadowy figure, sat in a comfortable chair, watching the event all unfold. A sadistic smile surfaced on his face. "Well that was quite entraining. Time to make the announcement."

Once the few dozen survivors stopped before the entrance, a floating cam droid without a loudspeaker attached to it would be waiting for them. Then without further delay, a message loud enough for all to hear.

"Greetings one and all, you may call me the Gamesmaster. It was I who broadcast Jabba's vault here on Tatooine so you're welcome."

After a brief pause to let that revelation sink in he continued.

"What you all seek is inside. Don't worry I hadn't taken any treasures from here but the late Jabba did leave behind some traps for intruders like yourselves. So be prepared if you dare to continue."

Subsequently the laughter of a madman rang out from the loudspeaker before the droid exploded. Minerva titled her helm in thought.

All of this because some psycho thought it would be amusing. Well then again he pull us all into this.

The voice ricocheting through the crevices of the valley made her flinch and Snitch, who didn't have a saddle bag to scurry in to, tightened his tail around her neck, choking her. She flicked him in the bottom and he loosened enough just to breathe. The "Gamemaster" spouted the classic faceless villain monologue explaining all the ways he was Fekking with them an how he would further Fek with them as the race continued. She fell back slightly, not enough to lose the ground she'd gained but enough to patch in to CAB who was sitting in orbit.

"CAB send a message to Ivory Stroud Ivory Stroud or Marcella Fiora Marcella Fiora , whomever picks up first. See if they have info on this "Gamemaster" character. its a long shot but you know how far reaching The Family extends its fingers, you really never know. They've got their hands full and might not respond, but it never hurts to ask"

CAB whistled sassily.

"No, I don't need help, you little turd. I'm on a speeder in a fekkin race, I'm on top of my game If I can catch up to that kriffing clap-trap ( B1-173 "Omar" B1-173 "Omar" ) up there. Bonus Points if I can shoot him off his STAP"

CAB whirred, unconvinced, then sent her a readout. She glanced at the screen. A large cave was looming ahead and inside, a level of twist and turns she would only get through with CAB's help. On the other side or inside was the vault so it was only logical, based on the announcement, that the cave was booby-trapped.

"CAB, program my droid disruptor protocol and lets see if we can get that that rust bucket on our side. If we can make him an ally here, we might both be able to get what we want."

She gunned her BARC, surprised at the torque and sped up to its full speed. Snitch made a cackle of glee and clutched her tighter around the shoulders. In less time than she thought, she was on the battle droid's flank, grinning as she sidled up to him. When they were neck and neck, she tapped her wrist band and hit the disrupter protocol modification in an attempt to cause the ancient droid's systems to go haywire, but not short circuit, just enough to read her as a team-mate rather than an enemy. Depending on the droids make-up it may or may not work. If it didn't, she could have CAB switch the disruptor to be more... lethal. If she had to. She'd much prefer an ally to a fiend.

The Droid, the Myth, the Legend
The Battle Droid also took notice of the announcement from the supposed "Gamemaster." B1-173 realised until now that the game was merely a set up, or was it? The gamemaster did say that there was a prize still awaiting him and the others ahead if they manage to reach their destination, however he had little time to dwell on the matter, as B1-173 realised that Viz was closing onto them and had little time to react, as B1-173 was travelling on the STAP, it was going at max speed yet she was managing to catch up to them, terrified about what was about to happen, B1-173 realised that Viz was attempting to do something to his systems, the Droid immediately would attempt to manoeuvre by taking a hard turn right in order to avoid whatever she was attempting to do to his systems, B1-173 would then chime in and would speak back to Viz in order to clarify that he had no ambitions to harm them, the Battle Droid was a pacifist and only attacked those who he saw as threats, Viz in this matter, was a considerable threat, in order to prevent being effected by the disruptor he kept speeding past different obstacles in order to lose his interceptor, however after sometime of zig-zagging and dodging through various obstacles, B1-173 noticed that his systems were continuing to malfunction and would become frazzled, but nevertheless, B1-173 continued in persisting and travelling through the steep areas towards wherever the destination is.

"Hey! Calm down, I have nothing against you or anyone really, I just want to see where this prize is, but now I am seeing all these deaths and these collisions I misunderstood what this event truly was! It was a trap for all of us and we are all doomed if we go ahead alone, so how about we work together instead to find whatever this prize is, I heard it has something to do with Jabba the Hutt. I remember those days... But listen, you and me both won't get past this unless we work together and put aside our difference, I will give you an offer, we can split the prize, 80/20, the 80 percent will be given to you, I don't want much, I am just a Droid trying to get through, the Galaxy is simply something I cannot identity or coincide with, I belong to a time, long gone into the dust of history. I am probably what only remains of a long forgotten era, but we will be good as dead if we don't cooperate."

All the sudden, out of surprise B1-173 would then zip towards the side of Viz like if he somehow appeared back in less than a second, that STAP was quite fast and mobile, the speed and agility of the speeder of this sort was rather ridiculous, B1-173 didn't personally understand how strong it was either despite having known this particular speeder for centuries now, although not really caring about it too much since he was distracted by many others things such as staying alive and fighting his sworn adversaries. As he now travels along with Viz on an even passage, B1-173 would also remember and dwell upon this self-proclaimed "Gamemaster" with his words which delivered a strong impact towards the Droid for some odd reason, he realises that it was probably wise to turn back, but there was no retreating from this fight, and after all he was never programmed to cower in the fear of the enemy, he also acknowledges the fact that he has fought though countless battles during the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War and beyond, this little race should not deter him from continuing on further to retrieve the prize with his newfound ally, instead he redirected his stance towards protecting and helping their ally and to strategically manoeuvre and adapt to obstacles which may seek to disrupt his motives. He continued to speed forth and would occasionally slower his speeder in order to remain in touch with Viz.

He then checked behind and would then notice that there was an oncoming group of what appeared to be aggressive contesters seeking to overtake them to gain the lead, they would fire their blasters recklessly towards both him and Viz in which B1-173 would then rustle for something in his backpack, eventually he found what he was searching for and would throw two seismic charges onto the side of a rock in which once the enemy interceptors were baited in, B1-173 would then manually detonate the explosive himself, it was a rigorous task especially when speeding by to both dodge being shot by blaster fire and to avoid slamming into any obstacles which lay ahead of him if he wasn't careful enough, he would then signal to Viz but realised it was ineffective, so instead the Battle Droid Mark III would tap into her communications systems she had on her own speeder in order to remain stable communications between the both of them so that they are not able to cause any mishaps as they attempt to swerve by towards the objective of the race, he would notice a cut towards the side in which he zoomed into to avoid fire, and once after gazing behind and noticing that the aggressors were closing into the trap, B1-173 detonated the charges remotely by his headpiece giving the order to do so, afterwards, B1-173 would then exclaim in glee and would then attempt to form up with Viz's speeder.

"That was a good plan don't you think? I haven't been so dexterous in this type of fighting for many, many years now, overall I still seemingly hold up as I did back then, luckily I don't have to age biologically like you organics have to, sometimes it is a sad reality to see your organic friends pass away as they have something which is simply not available to your people, death is unavoidable for you all and yet you still cherish your days like there is no such limit implied, I do respect your valiantly and cooperation, as for you, I don't think I ever got your name. My name is B1-173, but you can call me "Omie" if that is any easier for you to remember me by, I used to fight for numerous factions during my heyday, but now I have awoken many years later, I know it has been so long because the technology has changed a lot aside from some certain things which will probably never go away.

Viz felt a shock of relief. It had worked and the Droid was game to work together as allies. He sidled with her speeder, but before she could say anything a gang of an indeterminate species ran hot onto them attempting not just to pass them but fire wildly on them. The Droid was digging for something in the panier of his STAHP and she quickly disengaged her lightsaber, deflecting some choice bolts that came at them both. clinging to the speeder with her thighs, she shot back with her other hand, a wild but choreographed flailing of deflection before the droid released seismic charges. She glanced at them, but her HUD began to blink as she recieved a transmission from an unknown source.

"Put it through, CAB." She hollered.

The astromech in orbit whistled that the transmission was from the Droid. She nodded at his signal and he detonated the charged.

She let out a whoop as he pulled up to her so their speeders were neck and neck.

Viz was... to say the least... shocked. She wouldn't have believed such an old droid and one of its model would be so eloquent or have such a profound history. She supposed it would make sense if he's been in stasis for so long, but still, talking to Omie was like speaking to a human, plus or minus the timbre and rhythm of his words (he was a machine after all).

She pivoted. The last groups were far behind and they were angling at a long enough stretch so she responded in her comm. "I think it sounds like a fantastic plan." She paused. "how old exactly are you?"

Seeing that no one was stopping Minerva suddenly realized her mistake. Activating her jetpack she rockets off the sand. Soaring forth once more she looked below to the chaotic race below. Whoever this gamemaster is, he certainly has a talent for making trouble.

As for Viz and Omie, another speeder came followed in pursue. It's turret fired two bolts toward the battle droid and three more shots in Viz's direction. However, a skiff came up from the right flank. The riders on the turret speeder shocked and turned and saw a pair of skiffs had eight Jaws each on it! One of them fired his ion blaster on the controls. The driver cried out before his speeder went out of control and overturned, several times, breaking apart.

The cloaked aliens cheered at their success before noticing Omie. Immediately they got even more excited, eager to get their hands on an extra droid for themselves. Just then Minerva had caught up and noticed the Jawa owned skiff gunning for the other pair firing ion shots toward them. For a moment she was tempted to let them blast each other but then thought.

Who am I kidding?! I'm in this for the action not some slug’s treasure.

Letting out a battle cry she made a new dive to the skiff. Just as some of the Jawa looked up, Minerva landed into the midst of them. Immediately she kicked one who uttered a surprised scream before blasting two others with her pistol. A few jumped off to escape or by accident.

Smirking inside the helm Minerva would've made a comment when without a warning a Jawa leaped and latched onto her. The little fellow screeched and cursed in his native tongue gripping Minerva in a rear chokehold. Losing air fast and gagging, the Mandalorian shook herself violently to throw off her small enemy. Just then another of the remaining Jawa in front aimed his ion blaster at her. Seeing the danger she dodged and the ion blast struck the pilot instead.

Letting a pained scream he dropped sideways and the skiff made a sudden lurch. With the Jawa still on her neck Minerva jumped as the vehicle crashed into a pillar of rock. Flying once more she spun around in the air to loosen her small competitor's grip. Within seconds it worked as he accidentally let go and fell crying out. Dazed Minerva nevertheless then resumed her flight.

Soon enough they all came upon the cave entrance. Soon any who survived the mad race began to halt just outside. Minerva landed and rolled to the ground with weapon in hand. The race was over now it was time for the survivors to go find that vault.

The Droid, the Myth, the Legend
Seeing what just occurred, B1-173 quickly jolted his STAP speeder side to side in order to swerve and avoid the blast shots from the Jawas prior to Minerva's intervention with the situation, as such, B1-173 continued to speed up and break his path from Viz again until he managed to find an area to relink with them following the disposal of the Jawa skiff, seeing that it plummeted and collided towards a pillar of rock, B1-173 quickly manoeuvred passed the falling debris from the rocks and arrived speedily at the entrance of the cave, analysing the entrance, B1-173 decided to quickly react and draft a plan, but it was no time for planning as shortly enough, the others started to arrive with their own speeders and he was uncertain on what they'd do, presumably they would probably attempt to kill each other before they manage to even go into the cave in question, as such, B1-173 quickly reacted and hid themselves behind a small slope covered by some rocks in order to avoid being spotted, preparing to ambush any adversaries which attempt to open fire and attempt to end his or his newfound friend's life, as such, B1-173 equipped his E-5 Blaster Rifle and took aim whilst managing to blend into the surrounding terrain with his bone-white appearance, although with closer inspection it was relatively easy to tell the difference. Eventually, B1-173s anticipations were correct as some pirates quickly dismounted from their respective speeders and began to exchange fire amongst each other in a skirmish between several rivalling opponents, to avoid being blasted, B1-173 maintained his position but took some precise aim towards some pirates and other adversaries lingering around the exterior of the entrance, aim small, miss small. B1-173 would then fire controlled bursts towards the opponents and would manage to take down several pirates before managing to rendezvous with both Viz and presumably Minerva, still keeping caution of any enemies which may still be around the area, it was obvious that they were considering that groups of individuals were trying to enter the cave before he was able to, wasting no time, B1-173 began to dispatch enemy forces attempting to suppress the entrance and grabbed out some thermal detonators in which the Battle Droid would throw over towards the pirates in particular.

"Are you just going to sit around and do nothing? Come on! That prize is ours to split between the two of us, well, considering that Mandalorian back there did save my scrapheap I say we should also split it between them as well, although I haven't really gotten used to them as I am more fond of you (referring to Viz) if you know what I mean, anyways, we must focus on the task at hand and eliminate any adversaries which lay before us, we cannot tolerate a loss of our prize awaiting within that cave, and as that gamemaster mentioned before our arrival to this place, there are some traps which are sprung about the facility, so we might as well let them go through, the imbeciles have already forgotten about the traps, probably due to the adrenaline by worrying about getting out of here, yeah I've been there too. But every key of the story is crucial, just remember there's traps about so we gotta work together, it is a necessity."

Following his speech delivered to both Viz and the Mandalorian he has recently encountered, B1-173 would then rush out of cover and would fire upon the other bandits, pirates, mercenaries and other villainous scum which are also attempting to reap the profit from Jabba's processions, B1-173 fired at the enemies in order to aid both Viz and Minerva to enter the cave, as they presumably do, B1-173 would go first and if they are reluctant to do so, B1-173 would go ahead first being bold, it was either a stupid decision or a brave one, as once the Battle Droid entered the cave, the first thing he noticed was that various dead bodies were scattered about, recently killed ones too, some were shot which was obvious to expect considering the firefight happening outside and probably within the cave, however as B1-173 persisted furthermore carefully through the cave, he noticed that various bodies were decapitated or had their limbs cut and scattered about, he was used to sights to this, after all he was an antique Droid which has fought in various conflicts, gore was second nature to them, however to Viz and Minerva that was up to them if they were appalled by it or not. As B1-173 continued to move through the area, he decided to use his technologies he had integrated within him to scan the area in order to detect any other organic life forms within the proximity of the interior, noticing that there were some up ahead, he also heard them chatting amongst each other, sounding quite distressed and alarmed, shortly afterwards, a loud slash of flesh was heard which echoed throughout the cave, and subsequently following the noise there was dead silence, realising what has just happened, B1-173 stuck to a wall and pattered it down along with taking cautious steps ahead, enacting his specialised components of his Droid brain to detect any elements such as traps and other hazards, he did notice two up ahead but didn't know how to counter them properly and the component in question would malfunction due to Viz's prior attempt to EMP him.

"Ah blast, there is some traps ahead, we heard those poor fellas ahead seemingly get killed, it was quite loud and brutal. We are all well aware of what we are up against and we need to be very careful of what we are stumbling upon, I believe there is some sort of puzzle up ahead we must achieve with specific steps, however my scanners or indicators did not dictate on what we should do to pass through this predicament unscaved, as such, we must improvise and cooperate closely if we are both to survive, I will volunteer for the majority of these puzzles since after all, I am a Droid and I am not flesh, that is, I trust both of you to repair me if I do manage to get temporarily deactivated from what lays ahead, I have perished numerous times but have returned as thanks and gratitude towards my allies throughout the trials of the times, either way, we need to continue onwards. Would anyone have any suggestions to make? Oh yes, and to respond to your question from earlier, I don't really know how long I was in stasis for, but I believe I could be over 1,000 years old, does anyone know what year it is for a matter of fact?"

Viz listened at the flood of verbosity that poured from Omie. To be honest, she was getting used to his speech patterns, and it failed to irritate her as much as it had when they were on the bikes, probably due to the fact that it was no longer filtered through a comm. "874 ABY." she interjected helpfully, when she could get a word in edgewise. "Omie, I'm not going to throw you into a booby-trap, we'll go at it together as planned. You aren't a sacrifice."

She looked behind them wondering how far back the mandalorian was. At this point, she couldn't be certain if she was friend or foe, but after the Jawa debacle, she was less threatened by the armored woman's presence than she had been. She just wasn't sure if she wanted to split the treasure 3 ways.

They approached the area of the screaming and saw... nothing. Literally nothing. The ground though, solid rock, looked cleanly swept though, and that gave her pause. Omie stepped forward but Viz stuck out her arm, Snitch coiling tightly around her elbow. "Hold up."

She looked around and picked up a boulder, heavy enough to cause her to grunt and, if she she was right, trigger the trap. Setting it down, she rolled it forward onto the clean part of ground. No sooner had the boulder touched down on the ground than it tilted on what appeared to be a hinge. The boulder slid effortlessly into a pit below. Viz peered down before it could close back on its axis at the sharp spikes below, their predecessors cleanly impaled and quite dead.

"Cool." she muttered. "Cool Cool Cool. Um..." She looked around. It was obvious the trap was a false ground on a hinge. There had to be a counterweight somewhere that moved when pressure occurred. and anything weighing more than a few pounds would tilt the ground on the hinge sending trespassers into the pit below. Now the challenge was figuring out that counterweight system, allowing for safe passage, hopefully before the other treasure hunters caught up to them.

She explained the trap to Omie, though he most likely had already figured it out, and looked over her shoulder, hoping the silence behind them meant they had a second to sort this out. "I've got a monkey, and very little else Omie. Any ideas?"

The Droid, the Myth, the Legend
B1-173 listened to what Viz had said, 874 ABY, 700 years ever since he was operational appeared to be rather dazzling to the Droid, he was shocked for a moment and paused within the vicinity, not continuing onwards from the trap, it wasn't because of being fearful or cautious but rather thinking about how much things have changed in the Galaxy and that so many things that he knew in the past were all gone and swept away by time, however since they were currently on time to secure the treasure of Jabba, B1-173 shrugged off the information because it wasn't like he was able to go back in time either way, it was best to move on and continue doing things which peaked his interests, after all, he has just made a new friend which is something uncommon for a Droid such as himself to do considering the anti-Droid sentiment the Galaxy used to have and perhaps still suffers from as a result of memories from the Clone Wars causing trauma to many civilians, however the Clone Wars were many centuries ago and that time could have moved on from segregation but he was unaware of this information. B1-173 also heard what Viz said to them, that he wasn't a liability or something to be thrown away with ease, this made him feel like he was important and that he had a purpose rather than being expendable junk in which he always viewed himself to be considering the reactions of other non-Droids and even more advanced Droids seeing him as vermin despite being a Mark III unit, his appearance was usually the reason why he gained so much hatred from strangers and that he did in fact participate in the Clone Wars, but subsequently made up for his service to the Confederacy by fighting for the Alliance to Restore the Republic, an unsung hero at that, forgotten about their feats no matter how gruelling the tasks were or how significant they were to change the course of Galactic history. The Droid now observed what Viz did to trick the trap system, it relatively worked well as planned and this caused him to furthermore go ahead further but of course, abiding by Viz's orders and he waited for her to come up to them when they were ready so that they were able to walk through the enclosed cave together and deal with the traps, the status on the Mandalorian wasn't currently his concern as he was now fixated on getting through the cave and subsequently exiting it in one peice along with his newfound partner Viz.

"Wow, you really think I am not just a piece of expendable junk? I am truly.. Flattered by your remarks lady, nobody has really said anything compassionate to me for awhile now, and when they did it was usually my fellow Battle Droid brothers or the Rebels from long ago, but even so I was still viewed with being idiotic and lesser in sense of intellect and capability to fight for what was right, they regretted their choices once I fought valiantly and saved their lives numerous times on many occasions, I am something which shouldn't be underestimated or mistaken, but nevertheless, anti-Droid sentiment will always exist, they view me as a cog head, a freak, something which emotions and feelings pass right through me, well I'll tell you something clear, and I believe you have already seen and known me now that I am not a Gonk Droid. It is such a shame that we are degraded like this, stripped from our liberties. You know, I can fight for as long as I can for these rights and freedoms, but it will never come as they are so distant yet so close to heart..."

Following his emotional monologue of a speech, B1-173 now was ready to continue onwards into the deep cave system, observing the traps and seeing other hidden objects and items with his scanning and radar systems not functionally as well due to the enclosed caverns ruining his systems and the radius of the area he can observe, it didn't help that Viz managed to EMP them earlier on a minor scale, however things like scanning could mean the difference between life and death in these scenarios, as such he let Viz continue ahead first in some instances where he believed that Viz knew the traps which presented themselves better than he did, B1-173 also did acknowledge that Viz was some type of mechanic or scrapper, so perhaps she had some expertise or skill which could help reconstruct them in case he was temporarily destroyed or deactivated once more as he has became accustomed to for so many years now as dying and coming back to reality was something he frequently was used to doing and something he didn't fear, granted that if it was dangerous like lava where he would be permanently killed of, that was a concept which was dreadful to acknowledge but was unfortunately true for many Droids in his predicament, being recycled for scrap and spare parts, ignoring his elongated periods of hard thoughts going through his database, the Mark III was still confident on traversing the cave system and bypassing the traps together with his partner Viz, as such after moving through for sometime, they came across a steep area in which was only navigable by pressing yourself against the wall and slowly moving along the steep and narrow passage, otherwise falling down would certainly mean death, at this point, B1-173 looked down and noticed there was in fact blood scattered about from people falling down and impacting the walls before disappearing to the mist below, not wanting to suffer the same fate, B1-173 clanged onto the wall and moved slowly yet precisely towards the exit of the area, he then noticed people ahead of them were fighting in some sort of disagreement, and one of the people were tossed below, yelling before their eventual demise within the mist, observing this and having the foresight of having to contend with more adversaries, B1-173 quickly grabbed out his SE-14 blaster pistol and fired over towards the individuals ahead of them, taking them out as he continued to move onwards towards the entrance to yet another apart of the cave.

Were they finally managing to reach the jackpot? Who knows...
