Public Jar of Dirt | Agents of Chaos + Open

33rB1d.jpg

For the past few months, moving parts and pieces among the Agents of Chaos had given special care into expanding the type of resources available to the organization. The riches of the Scintilla were ever on the rise, with new spheres forming into which more tech was used to create organic matter than any before as far as they could check with written sources, and still more was needed. Partially, as an investment for the future. Partially, to do more than just maintain what they currently had. Between those who were officially part of the Agents, and the ever growing population of the Scintilla which seemed to be attracting more and more new residents by the day, it was all still very far from being able to just take care of itself by force of inertia.

R&D teams around the Scintilla and stationed in other parts of the galaxy had been working on something called PROJECT: ISHTAR. The precise details of it weren't known but to a few specific individuals, who oversaw the projects and handled the different pipes of it, ensuring that the right hand knew nothing about what the left hand was doing. Less than fifty people altogether were involved in putting the project together during its final stages - and all of them who were working on a mobile space station near Lhwekk were also found dead the morning after, their bodies strewn across the station like a childish game of paint the walls. Had it not been for a special order they had made the night before, it could have easily been another week before they were discovered.

That, combined with a touch of luck in the form of a nearby asteroid storm that had slowed the murderers down, had been the main reasons why they were sort of discovered at all. Scintilla Intelligence managed to track down signals, sit with a lot of holomaps and compare data, and eventually find out where their deadly enemies roughly were. The potential area had been split into four different territories, and teams were assigned to each of them. All teams had the same mission - find the cargo, let none escape. Catching the pirates, smugglers, or whoever else it was that had done it alive would be better, but there would not be any lost tears for the death of those who had stolen from the Agents of Chaos or any collateral damage caused in killing them.

We follow the events of Team Coblynau, who just so happened to be the team whose location was the correct one. Headed quickly towards the Galactic South, their ship, armed with several groups of combatants, knew what they had to do.

Secure the cargo. Get witnesses for interrogation. Kill everyone else.

Simple enough… No?

For a change, Scherezade was seated in the cockpit, looking at the screens and information that rolled ahead of them. The taste of blood still lingered in her mouth, and she took sips of hot cream regularly, trying to wash it away. It wasn't working very well.

When the bodies were found, she'd been sent for immediately. Her special set of skills allowed her to ride the blood, to see what happened to the dead in the seconds or minutes before they died… Though it wasn't exactly a perfect system. Sometimes, the blood would grow too old to be useful, and in other times the answers she received were so muddled that other methods had to be found to make things work, only because her personal interpretation of the blood visions had been… Slightly off. Granted, these off times had been growing sparse, but she wasn't cocky enough to deny their probability of happening.

Once she had gotten to the scene, sadly, hours after things had already happened, she had been unable to find any clues. The blood she sampled had still been wet, but she couldn't glimpse anything from it. Shapes, dark, moving quickly… Nothing they could actually go on. The words she could give were easy to use to describe most of the galaxy, and the cold rage had begun to simmer beneath her skin. She'd tried several different rituals in the hopes of being able to gleam more, and even invent a few new ones, but it hadn't helped. Instead of seconds of muffled and blurry visions that gave her nothing, she then received entire minutes of it.

deWinters were… Sometimes, they were loud. That person who laughed the strongest, whose voice was easiest to hear above the others… Many of them had it. But there were few things scarier than when a deWinter became cold and silent, and that was the place Scherezade was in now. The icy fire still clung to her as she boarded the ship, choosing her team entirely randomly. It didn't matter who she went with, as long as the mission was a success.

Because that was what she knew. How to successfully complete missions.

For hours now, she had been sitting in the cockpit, taking in the information. Under normal circumstances, her head would have been bursting from the strain she was putting it through, focusing on more screens than was meant to be possible, trying to make sense of it all, trying to draw the connections between the endless random bits of information. She knew that a price would be paid later. Just like there would be a price to pay for what she had attempted to do with the blood.

But not now. For the next few hours, at least, she would be fine. Focused. Sharp. Ready to use all her blades at once.

The tips of her finger ran along the sharp edge of one of her Nozhi blades as she studied the map further, when the beeping began. It was an annoying form of GPS, one that started beeping when they were close enough. She supposed that meant they were close enough.

"Location," she said quietly as her hands moved, shuffling the screens around. A little red dot began to blink on one of the holographic maps she had open.

Scherezade blinked. There was… Pretty much nothing there.

"Sensor jams? Pirated station? Something else?"
she asked loud enough for anyone in the cockpit to hear, but she wasn't really expecting an answer from anyone. There were enough people here who were better at these things than she was. The update would arrive… Any second now.

With a sigh, the Sithling rose from her seat and stretched out. Getting anywhere that would let her off this ship and at least walk some would be good right now. Some noises of pleasures of stretching came out of her, and then she let her hands down, removing a paper bag from her pocket.

There were cheese cubes in that bag.

That was the last time she hired on a crew to do a job.

Soon as they stopped doing what she told them to do, everything went to chit, and now there were fifty dead scientists. What was she expecting? Yeah, she'd vetted most of them, a few she knew from previous encounters, but she couldn't be entirely sure of it all. This might've been well-intentioned work, but when credits were involved, the seedier folks tended to slip through the cracks. She should have seen it coming from a mile away.

Kelsie, unfortunately, could not change the past. Working with her hands got her mind off things. Considering the damage to her ship, her mind was very much off things. Everything else had just been tinkering, but a busted hyperdrive was basically a death sentence if she knew one. And she very much knew not to risk bad hyperspace jumps. Still, the spare parts she'd had locked away were enough to fix it.

She'd needed to move the parts anyways -- the cargo hold on the Razor was barely big enough to fit their 'prize', if that was what she'd call it. Kelsie had half a mind to dump it into a space and leave now, but there was a chance she could get it safely away from here, find some way to keep what'd just happened from happening again. Project Ishtar had immense potential, but it was equally dangerous.

Her mind wandered away from that particular jar of dirt and back to her hired hands. While one might've caused problems, another -- the Twon Ketee soldier, specifically -- had meant she'd been able to get out alive. On her own, she probably would've been done for. Even the fifty scientists might've caused some trouble for her. And now those scientists were putty on the station's walls... Kelsie shook the thoughts away, pulling herself out of the maintenance access to the hyperdrive motivator. She wandered back into the cockpit of her YT-1300, taking a seat and looking out at the stars. An asteroid belt in a dead star system in the unknown regions. They were about as unfindable as one could get. She had enough time to take a short nap.

Sasmay was quiet while their leader did her business with the blood. Not aiming to strike a vein, Sasmay kept silent about the location also, as it was certainly not her area of knowledge to delve into. Her gaze did fall to the display however, the helmet for her suit sitting on the end of the lmg at the door. "But who? I mean, honestly, would be crazy enough to pull this chittin' move? Thought this was our gig?" Chaos didn't have anything major in her opinion that warranted a not so friendly visit of that scope. Apparently though, someone thought something was worth it. Or at least that is what she had been told when pulled for a job.

Ship boarding, or station breaching, probably fighting either way given the bodies they had found. Something was in store for the heavy weapon woman, and it would likely involve unloading a few clips of the weapon that was holding her helmet at the moment. She produced her own cheese bag, along with a bag that was advertised as something meat related. The woman popping open the bag, took a hearty bite of jerky and followed it up with a healthy bite of cheese. Breakfast of champions.

Looking at Sasmay Cull Sasmay Cull , Scherezade smiled, tossing a few of the cubes into her mouth. Sasmay's question had been a good one. This was their gig. They were supposed to be the ones to leave other people looking like they'd bumped into big cheese graters, not have their own like that. Heck, she could think of at least four different governments that would've tried to automatically pin it on the Agents of Chaos if the crime had been committed in their own turf.

"That actually worries me less," she said after a pause, "We can handle people that are just violent and gory about it. But the project was one of those top super secret ones. No one outside of those directly involved was supposed to even know about it, and all the scientists that were involved had background and security checked and all of that. Krak, even I didn't know about the project. Still don't. No friggin' idea about what's in the cargo. And then someone not only hears a whisper of it, but gleans enough information somehow to know where, and to come prepared."

Sitting back down, she leaned in her chair and stared at the maps again, squinting her eyes at the pulsing dot on them. Swiping her fingers, she zoomed in. That was the location.

"Motherkrakker," she cursed, tossing a few more cubes into her mouth, "Whatever or whoever they are, it's an asteroid belt. We don't have a precise location in it. We're going to have to go in and look for it like some lost puppy."

Scherezade leaned in her seat and turned to look at Sasmay again.

"I see you at a lot of these missions," the Sithling said and gave her a friendly smile, "What do you make out of all of this? What are the dots that you think you have theories about connecting?"

She took a small pause to let the pilots know to head into the asteroid belt, and returned her attention to Sasmay.

The station was, quite simply disgusting. Bodies strewn across the walls with blood littering every perceivable cavity present. Dominic had seen this kind of handy work a few times before, feisty two tonne cats will certainly rip people in two without a second though but this.... Was different... Something about the way the bodies we're left somehow returned a feeling that Dominic hadn't felt all that often recently... Horror... Eventually he climbed aboard the ship being used for this 'outing' and took to the stars. After some time he heard his comm come to life. The 'small check-in' Was from his sister, whom he had left for this mission. Thinking it just a bit too dangerous.

After A lengthy conversation, the same topic came up again. "You don't need to do this you know? We've been there for each other since you got me out of that god forsaken dump." Dominic chuckled to his sister's words, talking over an encrypted frequency, simply because he wasn't sure of what these people would think about him casually having a discussion while trying to track down a bunch of murderers and thieves. "I'm already here though, what's the point of leaving now? Besides, this is pretty much what I signed up for. We'll talk later holls." He shut off his comm and clipped it onto his belt, cracking his knuckles as he walked. Eventually coming to the bridge where he spotted two of his.... Colleagues?

Opting to stand in the doorway, leaning against the frame Giving a small wave as he rested his body against the frame. He waited for them to finish whatever it was they were talking about. This was his first time meeting these Agents, and to be perfectly honest, he feeling just a teensy bit awkward stood there. He took notice of the holo-map on display, realizing that they were headed further into the asteroids. Immediately, recounting a certain job which had a somewhat similar feel to it. Atleast he was inside the ship this time.

A faint beeping woke Kelsie from her nap. Sensors triggered; ion drive emissions detected at the edge of range. Immediately she sat up, thinking over her options. She couldn't risk powering up too much, if these were Agents of Chaos it'd quickly turn into a shooting match. Guessing from the emissions level, the ship couldn't be larger than a corvette. In that case, Kelsie liked her odds in this one-on-one, especially if she could jam them long enough for her to escape or destroy them. Still, it was possible -- though unlikely -- that this ship was just passing through, or better yet wouldn't notice her.

She sighed, glancing back at the access port to the reflec-covered cargo hold. What she had now was her responsibility. The... thing... in her cargo hold wasn't going back to the Agents of Chaos. It probably would stay with her until she found a safe place to leave it. Maybe she could dump it off to Locke... then again, he was making pretty destructive weapons already. He didn't need to add bioengineering to the list.

The YT-1300 waited at low power behind an asteroid, only its base sensors searching its surroundings. Anything more would be detected, and Kelsie wasn't one to be detected... though as always there was the option to talk her way out of things. She called back to the few crazy spacers that'd become her crew. "Suit up. We might have company. Two of you on the guns, thanks."

The lengths one would go to to protect a jar of dirt...

The first bit of what Scherezade deWinter Scherezade deWinter didn't bother her. That was part of their job, especially her own given the allegiances she held. Wild Hunt always had a hand in whatever was going down. And with Kass taking the Junker out for a spin to get some trading and below board deals done, what better way of passing the time than shooting someone that shot your people full of holes? None in her opinion. The revelation that even she however did not know what the scientists were working on was enough to make her narrow her eyes.

"So...we don't know what they made. We don't know who has it. We don't know anything other than someone took something, and is trying to make off with it." Sasmay rolled her eyes. "Oh this ought to be a chittin blast." Shaking her head, before watching the other woman. A smile formed when she spoke of Sasmay being on a lot of these missions. The smile got bigger when she mentioned connecting dots.

"Well, seems someone was doing something either they shouldn't have been doing. Or took an idea from someone else, and got a bit farther than the other. So they came to 'compare' data." She shrugged, eyes glancing around the room without any real goal before settling on the figure in the door. Eyes narrowed a moment before cocking a brow at him.

"You make a better door than a window. Come on in. Water's still cold." Sasmay joked to Dominic Shiro Dominic Shiro , taking another bite of her breakfast and watching the pilots change course.

Scherezade tossed a few more cubes into her mouth, taking note of Dominic Shiro Dominic Shiro by the door and listening to Sasmay Cull Sasmay Cull as she spoke. Eventually, she nodded. It really could've been anything. As the other woman invited the man by the door to join then, Scherezade held her bag of cheese cubes to him, offering the contents. Couldn't go on a proper mission on an empty stomach, especially when you didn't have an estimation about how long it would even take.

"We need to make sure that if their leader is with them, we're better off taking them alive," she sighed, the notion of not really being able to randomly slaughter those who'd dared being almost too obvious on her face. "I want to know how they managed to do it. And maybe get into their brains and see what other neat ideas they had that I can extract. Maybe even ride their blood."[/color] Now the grin returned to her cheeks.

Glancing outside, Scherezade noted that they were in the asteroid field now. The ship's crew would be looking out for whatever they could see with their eyes, and the beeping from the tracker ceased, now that they were inside their, their own communication equipment not exactly working as normal towards everything that was out of this area for them.

"But we can happily kill everyone else," she added with a smile, "I hope they're big and burly. Wouldn't be fun if they're weaklings who just got lucky."

Dominic stood in the door way waiting for a chance to step into the conversation, until eventually being invited into the room by the two ladies. He was hesitant at first, but he came to stand in the room, taking notice of the bag of cheese held out by one of them. He reached out and grabbed a couple pieces, in truth he was never a fan of cheese, but he felt it just a bit rude to deny the nice gesture. "Cheers." He moved to the window, peering out into the asteroid field, while throwing the cheeses into his mouth. In fairness they weren't that bad.

While staring out the window, he thought over their little assignment. A whole station massacred without so much as a trace as to who did it... And for what reason?Safe to say, he hadn't the foggiest clue. He thought that this was probably why he was only a fighter, not a detective. Starring out into the void, he wondered why they'd come here of all places, surely there were more suitable places to either hide or make the trade.

"A few big and burly types would definelty be fun. I call dibs on the first one." He turned to the pair and gave a light smile. "So how close are we? "

It was painful, all this waiting. The station had been much more exciting. Dangerous scientists, dangerous plants... dangerous Twon Ketee. He supposed seeing the mission through was what he ought to do. Krek was being paid reasonably well for this, after all. He thought that it might be because their captain wished for them not to take from her what they had taken from the Agents of Chaos.

He did not know these chaos agents, whoever they were, but he knew that their station had been rather poorly defended. Perhaps their captain was rather skilled, in the way that she flew the ship they were on into such a small position to breach in. After that, well, the scientists weren't much of a match for Krek. He subdued almost all of them rather quickly -- despite the weapons she carried, his employer insisted that they not be killed. What an odd policy to have.

And then...

Krek absentmindedly rubbed his damaged faceplate. He'd never realized that plants could be dangerous. His homeworld was a place covered in dangers, but he had never encountered a plant that could kill him. That one they called Yosef had been an idiot for opening that door. Without him, those poor little ones on this assignment would have been dead.

Why did he save them? The life he carried was much more valuable than theirs, and he didn't care about what their 'buyer' thought if he left because it was too dangerous... then again, he was no pilot. This Kelsie Sylvan had proven quite effective. Little ones with large egos weren't particularly rare, though.

His own sensors could not pick anything up, but the captain had informed him of a potential attack. By his understanding, they were out of the way of most inhabited planets and spacelanes. These could be their pursuers, and these would not be as weak as the scientists. Still, there were few things as dangerous as what was on the ship.

Perhaps if they simply left now, they would be able to escape. There did not appear to be an interdictor, and the YT-1300 was known to be an agile vessel. Or perhaps the captain planned to destroy their pursuers. Whatever the case, Krek would be ready. There was nothing else to do. Hiding was not his way, but he did not dispute Kelsie for it was not his ship.

How close were they? Scherezade glanced at Dominic Shiro Dominic Shiro for a moment before returning her gaze to the stars ahead and around them. They didn't have an exact pinpoint, only a general location, and it was inside this asteroid field. Manual searching. It was like the very old days all over again, days that she personally never wanted to go back to. It was almost a shame they didn't bring one of those ships that could blast asteroids apart. Something like that could be incredibly useful for clearing out all this debris.

She opened her mouth and tossed a few cheese cubes in, chewing thoughtfully, only semi aware to the fact that Dominic's question had still gone unanswered. What was there to say, anyway? We're totally and completely playing this by ear wasn't as reassuring to most as it was to Scherezade.

"THERE!" she screamed. It was far, barely a spec she could see through the window, but it was there all right. A ship. Was it the right ship? Was it an innocent ship trapped here? She didn't know. She didn't care. "Disable it!" she gave the order as she jumped off her chair, cheese cubes entirely forgotten.

Turning to @Dominic and Sasmay Cull Sasmay Cull , the Sith grinned. "Gear up, get ready for boarding. It's blood bath season."

Sasmay nodded her head in reply to their question, a smile appearing at the mention of big burly folk. "If they are big and burly, it's only right to knock them down a few pegs. As for their leader, well, we will see." A few cubes of cheese were popped before a bite of jerky. Thankfully she was a person of class, chewing with her mouth closed before Scherezade deWinter Scherezade deWinter pointed out the window and made Sasmay cough a bit.

After a touch of coughing, she slowly stood, thumping her chest once-twice before moving to her helmet and heavy rifle. A final heavy cough got her square before she plopped the helmet on and lifted the LMG. "Now boarding I can do. Beats sitting around at least."

Well, that was a quick answer. Dominic was caught just a bit off guard by the response, after all, everything had been pretty calm up until that point. But now it was time to get serious.... Maybe.... Dominic threw his hands back into his pocket and pulled out his sabers, keeping them by his side for now. "Which way, boss?"

Boarding a ship eh? Well he guessed there was a first time for everything, all the while imagining what would be waiting for them on board.

Given her diminutive size and the distinct, sharp-pointed horn situated on top of her forehead, Hanna was never completely invisible. However, her disappearance after the Battle of Zonju V would have made her presence unexpected, if not completely unanticipated. Only months before, she had been on the brink of death after being shot multiple times by a rifle during one of the boarding operations. By some preternatural miracle, she had managed to survive. Unfortunately, she had also been captured by the ORC, and submitted to their interrogation before being released under mysterious circumstances. Her return to Scintilla had been discreet, especially since immediately upon her arrival she had been wheeled in for surgery so that the organs and limbs she had lost could be replaced with organic ones that had been cloned from her own DNA. She had specifically told the doctors that she would not tolerate any cybernetics, no matter how advanced, lightweight, or supposedly bleeding-edge they were.

Nevertheless, that had not stopped them from secretly implanting her with a discreet, yet state-of-the-art suite of cybernetics that were designed to vastly improve her reaction time, at the command of the woman she so fervently worshipped.

Initially, Hanna had barely noticed the difference. When she found herself able to perceive and react to things that she had been unable to before, she had dismissed it as her body responding strangely to the medicine she had been given. However, when she realized that the effects had persisted after she finished the designated courses of medicine during her recovery, she began to frantically search for answers. She initially believed that Discordia had blessed her with Force-sensitivity, to which she fanatically prayed, giving the Dark Lady of Chaos her thanks for the miracle. However, a subsequent blood test had dashed her hopes, showing that her Midi-chlorian counts were in fact quite normal, if slightly below average. Nevertheless, that had not stopped her from halting her extensive daily rituals of prayer and supplication. She truly believed that Discordia had not only miraculously saved her life, but also given her gift that made her more in tune with her surroundings, better able to react to external stimuli, and more finely precise of motion.

Not once did it dawn on her that she had been given an extremely advanced cybernetic suite without her consent.

The diminutive Qilin had been a surprise, last-minute addition to the team. And so, when she arrived on the bridge upon hearing the Blood Hound’s call, she announced her presence with a single phrase, one that was all too typical of the hyper-fanatical Huntress.

“Discordia will bathe in blood.”

“Discordia will bathe in blood.”

The sound of that sentence made Scherezade turn her head for a moment, only now appearing to notice the unicorn lady of the Agents of Chaos. She knew who she was by her face; Scherezade rarely forgot a face, though she was utterly chit on names. She recalled her being often present in the earlier days of their organization, but she hadn't realized it'd been that long.

That was all right though. Scherezade did not lead the Wild Hunt, opting instead to lead specific missions and grab anyone who'd come to them instead. In many ways, it meant she had less to do with being involved in combatant's lives. That was something she left to her sister, who would've known the unicorn lady would be there and would probably also be able to tell her where she'd been all this time as far as the official record went.

Their ship shot towards the other one, inching ever closer. Scherezade let the pilots handle it; she wasn't a combat pilot by any means, and there were better people to do that job. She heard damage landing on their own ship, and she arched brow at the mention that some of their shields were down, but still they managed to get close enough to unleash the boarding equipment.

"They killed ours," she spoke as she led those assembled to the ship's exit. They would run through the bridge opened and force their way into the thieves' ship, "So we kill them. Be effective before you get creative, you can use their inner organs to decorate what's left of them after we're done."

Smilin, she turned around, raising her arm as she shouted, and opened into the run towards the other ship.

It had been many months she had done this, charging headlong into battle with a group of bloodthirsty Wild Hunters, mercenaries, and zealots at her side, all ready to kill in the name of Discordia. To Hanna, the chaotic, yet relentlessly percussive harmony of battle was one of the most beautiful things in the universe. Something in her blood craved it, the electrifying rush of it had an addictive effect on her brain, making her want more of it, even after coming so close to death during the Battle of Zonju V. However, it was only then that she realized how much she had missed it. The invigorating excitement that she felt was almost as intense as the one during the Battle of Kibra City, where she had fought and emerged victorious over a horde of the brutish Grysk with Madalena and The Bridesmaid. Only now, she felt less apprehensive than she had as a green Huntress.

Taking her rifle from the holder on her back, Hanna loaded it with a power cell and followed the Blood Hound towards the boarding module. Then, staring into the woman’s piercing green eyes, Hanna nodded.
