Minarchal Military (Branches, Ranks & Structure)

Minarchal Military
The Minarchal military comprised the various branches of the armed forces of GOMM, such as the Minarchal Army and Minarchal Navy, as well as agencies such as Military Intelligence. It's military Structure was based upon and inspired by the Galactic Republic and the Galactic Empire.

Supreme ImperatorMinarchal High Command
Minarchal High Command, also known as Minarchal Central Command or simply Minarchal Command, was the agency responsible for coordinating the war effort of GOMM. It presumably had ties to the Minarchal Security Bureau and Minarchal Intelligence agencies. Naval Command, Army Command, Stormtrooper Command, and Battle Station Command were below it.

Joint Chiefs
The Joint Chiefs of GOMM were members of the executive group that advised the Supreme Imperator on all martial related matters. The cabinet was composed of the chiefs of the Minarchal Army and Navy, and they were known to work closely with ministers of the Minarchal Security Bureau and Naval Intelligence.

Army Command
Army Command was the council or staff of senior army generals led by the Army Chief of Staff—senior commanding officer of the Minarchal Army—that commanded all of the Minarchal Army forces from Minarchal Headquarters.

Minarchal Army
The Minarchal Army was a branch of the Minarchal Military that had the primary responsibility of prosecution of ground-side military operations, under the oversight of Army Command.

Grand General - Grand General was a military rank of the Galactic Empire, very highly placed within the Minarchal Army or Stormtrooper Corps.

Grand Moff - Grand Moff was the title given to the Regional Governors of Oversectors. These sectors, also called Priority Sectors, were locations that were of special interest to the Supreme Imperator.

Moff - Moff was a sector governor rank in the Sith Empire, in the Galactic Republic in its last days, and under the Galactic Empire, while in GOMM it may refer to a Planetary Governor or Sector Governor.

Surface Marshal - Surface Marshal was the title borne by the commander of Minarchal Army forces within a Sector army. Along with the Navy title of High Admiral, this title was typically borne by the Moff or Grand Moff, though in some Sectors, it was delegated to a senior subordinate.

High General - The title of High General indicated a senior position within the the Minarchal Army. A High General normally controlled a Systems Army, a largely bureaucratic level of command immediately subordinate to the Surface Marshal in charge of a Sector Army, and consisting simply of a non-combatant headquarters detail, responsible for coordinating front-line Corps and Armies, and keeping track of the resources available within a sector, so that they could be deployed in support of those field formations as required. They were sometimes referred to by the title of Commander.

General - General was a high-level military rank, often denoting the commander of an army. It was widely used among the armed forces of both major galactic powers and more localized militaries.

Lieutenant General - Lieutenant General was a grade of general.

Major General - Major Generals usually commanded a Corps or a garrison Corps HQ.

Brigadier - The rank of Brigadier or Brigadier General was a senior rank in some military organizations, typically a junior or quasi General rank, senior to a Colonel but below a Major General. It should be stressed that officers with the rank of Brigadier did not necessarily command Brigades, but brigade commanders could be referred to as "brigadier", even if they held a different rank.

High Colonel - High Colonel is the title given in the Minarchal Army to the officer commanding a Battlegroup.

Colonel - Colonel was a military rank used by planet-based forces (such as the Minarchal Army) as well as certain Starfighter Corps. Colonels ranked below generals and above majors, and were equivalent in rank to the naval rank of captain.

Lieutenant Colonel - The rank of Lieutenant Colonel was a rank used by a number of military hierarchies, including ground forces and some starfighter forces. Typically, it was placed between Major and Colonel.

Major - Major was a military rank used by ground and commando forces (such as the Minarchal Army) and also by many starfighter corps.

Captain - Captains were typically company commanders.

Lieutenant - Surface forces often saw lieutenants holding the lowest level of field commands (such as platoons in the Minarchal Army), as aides to more senior officers, or as vehicle operators.

Second Lieutenant - Second Lieutenant was a lesser grade of lieutenant, below First Lieutenant.

Officer Candidate - Officer Candidate was a rank in the Minarchal Army that was an appointed position while a person was in training to become an officer.

Stormtrooper Corps (Infantry)
The Stormtrooper Corps was an independent military branch that operated alongside the Minarchal Army and Navy of the Galactic Empire. Though they functioned under their own command structure, Minarchal stormtroopers ultimately answered directly to the Supreme Imperator. Regarded as elite shock troopers of GOMM, the Corps also functioned as the Supreme Imperator's chief enforcers—both within the military ranks and the galactic populace alike—due to their uncompromising loyalty to the Supreme Imperator.

Senior Warrant Officer - A chief warrant officer did not have a specific task as other ranks such as Admiral did, but instead specialized in a field which other crew members had little or no knowledge of or experience with. Although the chief warrant officer had similar functions to the warrant officer, the chief warrant officer was able to oversee more delicate operations that might require more familiarity with the system(s) in question. The chief warrant officer was usually very skilled in their area of expertise and was tasked with overseeing the work of regular warrant officers.

Junior Warrant Officer - Warrant Officer was a rank present in many militaries across the galaxy. A warrant officer did not have a specific task as other ranks such as Admiral did, but instead specialized in a particular field that other crew members had little or no knowledge of. An example of this would be a warrant officer who specialized in monitoring the ship's functions, or a warrant officer who specialized in operating the ship's tractor beam.

Sergeant - In planet-based military organizations, a sergeant was a non-commissioned officer ranking above a corporal and below a Warrant Officer

Corporal - In the Minarchal Army, a corporal was second-in-command of a nine-man squad, selected and recommended for the position by the sergeant. As the senior of the squad's eight troopers, he was known as the "one-man".

Private - Private was the lowest army rank. The next rank up was Corporal.

Naval Command
Naval Command, also known as Supreme Naval Command, was the command structure of the Minarchal Navy.

Minarchal Navy
The Minarchal Navy, also known as the Minarchal Starfleet, Minarchal Fleet, Minarchal Battlefleet, Minarchal Space Navy, or Minarchal Space Service, was the space warfare branch of the Minarchal Military of the Galactic Minarchy.

Grand Admiral - Grand Admiral was one of the highest ranks in GOMM, outranking all other political and military personnel, including Moffs and Grand Moffs.

Grand Moff - Grand Moff was the title given to the Regional Governors of Oversectors. These sectors, also called Priority Sectors, were locations that were of special interest to the Supreme Imperator.

Moff - Moff was a sector governor rank in the Galactic Empire, while in GOMM it may refer to a Planetary Governor or Sector Governor.

High Admiral - High Admiral was the title born by the commander of Navy forces within an Minarchal Sector Group. Along with the Army title of Surface Marshal, this title was typically borne by the Moff or Grand Moff, though in some Sectors it was delegated to a senior subordinate.

Fleet Admiral - The title of Fleet Admiral was accorded to the commanding officer of a major fleet within a Sector Fleet. A Fleet Admiral answered directly to the High Admiral in charge of Navy operations within their Sector, who was normally the Moff or Grand Moff of the sector; his own command might be a front-line Superiority fleet, an Assault fleet or Bombard fleet for planetary suppression operations, or a logistical Deepdock fleet or Support fleet.

Admiral - A simple style of admiral denoted the lowest of these grades, indicating command of a squadron of capital ships, and a rank not markedly higher than Captain of the Line. Above this came a hierarchy of Systems Admirals and Fleet Admirals under the High Admiral of the Sector, usually a Moff. An admiral in the Minarchal Navy commanded ten times as many forces as an admiral of the same rank did under the Galactic Republic.

Vice Admiral - Vice Admiral was a rank in many navies. Vice Admirals were superior to Rear Admirals, but inferior to the rank of Admiral.

Rear Admiral - Rear Admiral was a naval rank, usually the lowest level of Admiral in a fleet, and the counterpart to the Army rank of Major General. The next rank up in seniority was Vice Admiral, while the rank below was Commodore. There is also some evidence for a semi-formal subordinate grade of Brevet-Admirals, necessitated by the vast expansion of military command responsibilities under GOMM.

Commodore - In contrast, the rank between Line Captain and Rear Admiral had been commander, and the term "commodore" was used instead as an alternate title for a Systems Admiral, a mid-ranking command officer within the Navy hierarchy of a Sector Group.

Captain of the Line - The position of Captain of the Line, was a military rank in the Minarchal Navy. A Captain of the Line typically commanded a tactical unit known as a line of battle, comprising between five and twenty corvettes, frigates or cruisers. Officers of the same rank could often command a single Star Destroyer, or serve as the adjutant to an admiral.

Captain - Typically, officers holding the rank of captain would hold the command of a single warship, but some captains were responsible for entire squadrons of capital ships, and not all warships were commanded by officers holding the substantive rank of captain.

Commander - As a generic mode of address, “commander” was appropriate to many military officers. Almost anyone in command of a distinct ship, outfit or taskforce could be called "commander" of the unit.

Lieutenant Commander - Lieutenant Commander was a military rank used by several navies and starfighter corps. It ranked between Lieutenant and Commander (or in the case of some starfighter corps, between Captain and Commander). Given that a Naval Lieutenant (as a rule) equated to an Army Captain, a Lieutenant Commander equated roughly to a Major.

Sublieutenant - Sublieutenant, or sub-lieutenant, was the military title given to ensigns undergoing command training.

Ensign - Ensign was the lowest rating of officer within most space navies, being bestowed upon a being immediately after graduating from a service academy. Ensigns typically were given supervisory positions over enlisted crew, however they were too junior to actually have a command billet. Ensigns also could not take command of any situation, unless in the absence of a lieutenant or other superior officer. Persons of this rank were typically assigned as watch officers, military aides, envoys or even bodyguards for various higher-ranking officers such as admirals. Ensigns also sometimes led ground missions, leading a vessel's complement of troopers on whatever task needed doing.

Midshipman - Midshipmen were trainees onboard capital ships. The captain of the ship would often spend a short time with them each day for instruction.

Minarchal Security Bureau
The Minarchal Security Bureau (MSB), the public branch known as Imperial Security Services or simply Minarchal Security, was a law enforcement and internal intelligence organization of GOMM under Supreme Imperator. Based in the massive MSB Central Office on Minarchal Center, it was separate from, larger than, and often rival to Minarchal Intelligence.
