It's a hell of a dark age out there, but the wheels of commerce still turn while the galaxy burns, and freighters are the spokes on those wheels. Cargoes, legal and otherwise, race from star to star, flown here and there by daring captains with credit signs big in their eyes. Naturally, the market provides those captains with dozens of options for getting from point aurek to point besh, all of them a little different. For new blood, it can be hard to figure out where to even begin looking for the right ship. That's where this guide comes into play.

What follows is a rundown of just about every modern cargo-bearing starcraft, from zippy little lighters to massive bulk freighters. In order to help captains choose their ideal ship based on what's most important to them, the list has been organized in several different ways: by manufacturer, by cargo capacity, by passenger capacity, by speed, by crew requirements, and the like. This should make it easy to sort through the vast catalog of products and find just the right model to transport you across the cosmos.

If there's a ship I missed, or one that's restricted and should be removed from the list, or you disagree with a description, drop me a line and we'll talk. Good hunting!

Here's how each starship entry works:

Name of Manufacturer and Ship (Hyperlinked to the Factory entry)

Minimum Crew: Number of sentients required to get the ship off the ground

Optimal Crew: Number of sentients to have the ship run at full efficiency

Cargo Capacity: Amount of cargo the ship can haul, in metric tonnes

Passenger Capacity: Amount of non-crew sentients the ship can transport

Hyperdrive Rating: Multiplier for hyperspace travel time; lower is better

Sublight Rating: Speed and maneuverability in space; lower is better

Dimensions: Size of the ship, height x width x length, in meters

Arakyd Industries Templar-class Light Freighter
Minimum Crew: 1 Optimal Crew: 3 Cargo Capacity: 65t Passenger Capacity: 15
Hyperdrive Rating: 2 Sublight Rating: 4 Dimensions: 36 x 22 x 12

Elegant, luxurious, and well-armed, these ships blur the line between freighter and yacht. Good luck getting one, though; they were a limited production run for high-ranking members of the now-fallen Techno Union.

Blith-Tech Bulwark-class Freighter
Minimum Crew: 1 Optimal Crew: 3 Cargo Capacity: 100t Passenger Capacity: 15
Hyperdrive Rating: 2 Sublight Rating: 7 Dimensions: 30 x 65 x 76

Cheap, basic freighter. Highly customizable, but fairly slow.

Corellian Engineering Corporation MXC-1150 Light Freighter
Minimum Crew: 0 / 1 Optimal Crew: 3 Cargo Capacity: 400t Passenger Capacity: 0
Hyperdrive Rating: 2 Sublight Rating: 5 Dimensions: 39 x 9 x 15

Made as a comeback craft for CEC after the destruction of Corellia. Has a J9a remote command system, so minimum crew is technically zero. Powerplant produces far more energy than stock systems use, making it easy to upgrade extensively.

Corellian Engineering Corporation Turhaya-class Freighter
Minimum Crew: 10 Optimal Crew: 39 Cargo Capacity: 1,600t Passenger Capacity: 240
Hyperdrive Rating: 1 Sublight Rating: 4 Dimensions: 17 x 54 x 125

Fast blockade runner designed for Jedi, with many optional attachments (including a hyperspace inertia momentum sustainer to punch through interdiction fields). Lightly armed for its size, and not very tough due to its five exposed engines. Crew requirements can be cut with automation.

Corellian Engineering Corporation XR-95 Vector-class Freighter
Minimum Crew: 2 Optimal Crew: 5 Cargo Capacity: 400t Passenger Capacity: 5
Hyperdrive Rating: 1.5 Sublight Rating: 4.5 Dimensions: 8 x 25 x 57

Minimum Crew: 1 Optimal Crew: 4 Cargo Capacity: 100t Passenger Capacity: 15
Hyperdrive Rating: 2 Sublight Rating: 3 Dimensions: 8 x 25 x 36

Extremely agile freighter, but with small cargo capacity. Sometimes even that is stripped out to make way for more passenger capacity; makes for a great passenger liner.

Corellian Engineering Corporation YTA-2150
Minimum Crew: 2 Optimal Crew: 8 Cargo Capacity: 325t Passenger Capacity: 28
Hyperdrive Rating: 2 Sublight Rating: 3 Dimensions: 13 x 29 x 47

Sleek and agile, with an attractive winged design that can retract to reduce its target profile at the cost of sensor accuracy, but lightly-armed. Powerful J4 sensors to keep it away from combat. Extremely modular. Lovely staterooms with leather upholstery and dual sonic-water showers.

Corellian Engineering Corporation YV-929 Armed Freighter, Sigma Refit
Minimum Crew: 1 Optimal Crew: 4 Cargo Capacity: 150t Passenger Capacity: 6
Hyperdrive Rating: 2 Sublight Rating: 4 Dimensions: 5 x 5 x 22

Heavily armed and armored, with great cargo capacity for such a small package. The Sigma refit took away some of the heavy weapons to reduce strain on the reactor, but Corellian modularity can easily add it back. The "pocket nuke" of freighters.

Corellian Engineering Corporation YVX-666 Medium Freighter
Minimum Crew: 0 / 2 Optimal Crew: 6 Cargo Capacity: 1,200t Passenger Capacity: 18
Hyperdrive Rating: 2 Sublight Rating: 4 Dimensions: 32 x 34 x 76

Even more modular than most CEC vessels, with two cargo pods at the midline that can be turned into everything from extra cargo space to fuel pods to VIP suites. Lightly armed, but good cargo capacity and extremely maneuverable. Has the J9a remote command system.

Corellian Engineering Corporation YZ-1200 Light Freighter
Minimum Crew: 1 Optimal Crew: 6 Cargo Capacity: 500t Passenger Capacity: 14
Hyperdrive Rating: 2 Sublight Rating: 3 Dimensions: 17 x 28 x 52

Tough, heavily-armed ship often used for paramilitary purposes and Outer Rim patrols during the 400-year darkness. Can carry a snub fighter or shuttle, but it cuts 75% of cargo capacity.

Corellian Engineering Corporation ZX Light Freighter
Minimum Crew: 1 Optimal Crew: 6 Cargo Capacity: 200t Passenger Capacity: 12
Hyperdrive Rating: 2 Sublight Rating: 3 Dimensions: 11 x 17 x 29

Revived pre-Gulag design. Extremely sturdy, able to hold together with hull breaches over 70% of its structure. Four large engines, externally housed for easy repair (and easy targeting...), make it extremely zippy at sublight. Heat sinks at the wings create plasma trails when active.

Druckenwell Shipyards Replenish-class Bulk Freighter

Ghtroc Industries Model 8675 Light Freighter
Minimum Crew: 1 Optimal Crew: 2 Cargo Capacity: 135t Passenger Capacity: 10
Hyperdrive Rating: 2 Sublight Rating: 3 Dimensions: 13 x 28 x 38

The "space turtle". Two torpedo bays at the front, two docking tubes with optional escape pods at the back, with the engines in-between. Fast but lightly armored, easily destroyed once shields are taken down.

Haven Shipyards AT-120 Freighter
Minimum Crew: 3 Optimal Crew: 5 Cargo Capacity: 250t Passenger Capacity: 5
Hyperdrive Rating: 2 Sublight Rating: 10 Dimensions: 84 x 67 x 43

Minimum Crew: 1 Optimal Crew: 3 Cargo Capacity: 15t Passenger Capacity: 5
Hyperdrive Rating: 1 Sublight Rating: 3 / 2 Dimensions: 27 x 25 x 44

Fragile and lightly-armed, but incredibly fast and agile, with afterburners that let it keep up with some starfighters at full burn (though it guzzles fuel). For when you absolutely must win the Boonta Eve Classic in a starship while carrying a very small cargo.

Haven Shipyards Czerka-class Medium Transport
Minimum Crew: 5 Optimal Crew: 12 Cargo Capacity: 15,000t Passenger Capacity: 30
Hyperdrive Rating: 2 Sublight Rating: 4 Dimensions: 35 x 45 x 75

Minimum Crew: 17 Optimal Crew: 35 Cargo Capacity: 1,300t Passenger Capacity: 40
Hyperdrive Rating: 5 Sublight Rating: 4 Dimensions: 20 x 70 x 40

Total opposite to its name. Extremely durable ship with extra-thick durasteel hulls and four turbolasers, but such a slow hyperdrive it's practically worthless except in-system. That one time that Incom tried to make a freighter.

Inquisition Industries Modified YT-1300 Light Freighter
Minimum Crew: 1 Optimal Crew: 2 Cargo Capacity: 100t Passenger Capacity: 15
Hyperdrive Rating: 0.5 Sublight Rating: 2.5 Dimensions: 8 x 26 x 35

Among the fastest vessels out there, both in hyperspace and at sublight. Heavily armed and highly maneuverable thanks to its KV807-A engine system, which allows it to stop forward momentum and spin to match starfighters. Whisper drive makes the engines difficult to pick up. EXTREMELY expensive, and comes without shields. "Already have a stupid amount of money, and just in smuggling for the thrills? This is the ship for you."

Invictus Aeronautics Shen Ru-class Ore Freighter
Minimum Crew: 7 Optimal Crew: 17 Cargo Capacity: 155,000t Passenger Capacity: 0
Hyperdrive Rating: 3 Sublight Rating: 5 Dimensions: 60 x 126 x 250

Koros Spaceworks Marlin-class Freighter
Minimum Crew: 2 Optimal Crew: 10 Cargo Capacity: 550t Passenger Capacity: 0
Hyperdrive Rating: 4 Sublight Rating: 10 Dimensions: 50 x 44 x 200

Minimum Crew: 1 Optimal Crew: 2 Cargo Capacity: 100t Passenger Capacity: 10
Hyperdrive Rating: 1 Sublight Rating: 5 Dimensions: 17 x 24 x 40

Minimum Crew: 3 Optimal Crew: 8 Cargo Capacity: 100t Passenger Capacity: 12
Hyperdrive Rating: 3 Sublight Rating: 4 Dimensions: 20 x 40 x 60

Reasonably nimble at sublight, but slow hyperdrive and limited cargo space, plus comes with all sorts of towing gear attached instead of weapons. Modular, though, and VERY cheap. Sometimes pirates buy them and fit them with weapons to fill out their raiding parties.

Hyperdrive Rating: 1 Sublight Rating: 3 Dimensions: 7.5 x 20 x 40

Lightly-armed freighter that focuses heavily on speed, with most of the weight in the engine. Has an airspeeder hangar. Two weapon hardpoints, but installing weapons decreases speed and maneuverability, which defeats the ship's purpose.

MandalMotors Xerob-Class Blockade Runner
Minimum Crew: 6 Optimal Crew: 45 Cargo Capacity: 2,000t Passenger Capacity: 45
Hyperdrive Rating: 2 Sublight Rating: 4 Dimensions: 30 x 35 x 80

No such thing as a standard Waverunner; SO many options, including a lightning-fast 0.5-rated hyperdrive. Can be outfitted with staterooms, troop transport pods, or cargo holds. Slow at sublight, and with almost no weapons, but with extremely powerful redundant shields.

Moross Shipwrights Cyhraeth-class Light Freighter
Minimum Crew: 1 Optimal Crew: 3 Cargo Capacity: 75t Passenger Capacity: 15
Hyperdrive Rating: 1 Sublight Rating: 4 Dimensions: 15 x 20 x 45

Minimum Crew: 1 Optimal Crew: 2 Cargo Capacity: 160t Passenger Capacity: 8
Hyperdrive Rating: 2 Sublight Rating: 5 Dimensions: 10 x 30 x 45

Modestly-armed light freighter that's easily modified and has impressive range. Has almost no emergency backup systems, though, including for the sublight engines. The recessed cockpit creates blind spots for the pilot, which some get around by installing cameras and monitors.

Otoh Gunga Bongameken Cooperative Doodad Personal Transport
Minimum Crew: 1 Optimal Crew: 2 Cargo Capacity: 45t Passenger Capacity: 3
Hyperdrive Rating: 2 Sublight Rating: 3 Dimensions: 40 x 10 x 20

Hyperdrive Rating: 3 Sublight Rating: 4.5 Dimensions: 24 x 52 x 82

Slow, ugly, weaponless freighter with exposed drive housing. Cargo bay is too tall, but doubles as hangar for cargo loaders or speeders. Must've been someone's labor of love. Maybe everyone will assume you can't be carrying anything valuable with such a piece of junk and leave you alone. Only possible use: carry something weirdly tall from Planet Peace to Planet Love.

Hyperdrive Rating: 0.5 Sublight Rating: 2.5 Dimensions: 8 x 26 x 35

Among the fastest vessels out there, both in hyperspace and at sublight. Heavily armed and highly maneuverable thanks to its KV807-A engine system, which allows it to stop forward momentum and spin to match starfighters. Whisper drive makes the engines difficult to pick up. EXTREMELY expensive, and comes without shields. "Already have a stupid amount of money, and just in smuggling for the thrills? This is the ship for you."
