SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • Extreme Speed: The RR-LT is quite fast and capable of bobbing and weaving as it relocates to new positions.
  • Difficult to Target: A sensor jammer makes locking on with targeted weapons or even picking it up on scanners a challenge.
WEAKNESSES
  • Exposed Pilot: With its light armor mostly focused to the front, the pilot is left quite vulnerable.
  • Limited Firing Arc: With a 260 degree firing arc for its main gun, the RR-LT can’t fire behind itself.
DESCRIPTION
A light walker designed by Outer Rim Resources for reconnaissance and to act as a mobile sensor post; either independently or as part of a com-scan net. Initially planned to assist with anti-smuggling and pirate actions by tracking down hidden outposts, the RR-LT quickly became a favorite among not just scouts and law enforcement, but anyone needing fast transportation where speeders wouldn't suffice.

While similar in design to the AT-RT, the RR-LT's chassis was elongated along with the synth-hide seat to carry a potential passenger or saddlebags and survival gear for extended ranging while providing more interior space for sensing gear. The armored cowling was also extended to provide better cover to the operator from the front as well as protecting the walker’s hip-joints and senor equipment. To increase the walker’s scouting ability, a rack capable of carrying a variety of small probe droids is an optional feature. When installed the RR-LT can launch a pair of the droids to extend sensor coverage or they can be sent into dangerous areas to spare the walker while obtaining valuable data.

For combat, the RR-LT is standard fit with a beam cannon capable of scything through infantry or most medium vehicle armor, but it comes with a recharge/cooling time consummate with the time spent firing, as well as a five-round mortar capable of precision targeting to 150 meters or saturation out to 750 meters. However it's easy enough to swap the weapons out for non-lethal options or a more standard laser cannon or rotary blaster such as the AT-RT carried. Targeting may be done by hand controls, or through a tracking scope mounted to the operator’s helmet, allowing the weapons to follow the wearer’s vision while integrating with a HUD.

It is recommended to avoid combat while piloting one of these walkers but if forced into it, operators are told to maintain speed while firing to the side, or to poke a ridge using their armor while ducking down to recharge their cannon and relocate. If possible they should stay in cover and fire on the enemy with their mortar using the RR-LT's sensors or probes for accurate targeting before escaping. But above all, maintaining speed, unpredictability, and their jammer are the keys to staying alive. Those who've tried to stamp one out along with its detractors have given the walker the uncharitable title of RAT, a name the scrappy walker carries with pride.

Like most Outer Rim Resources products, the RR-LT is simple and easy to maintain without proprietary parts and will work with minimal modifications across a wide range of environments and conditions from deserts, to tundra, swamps, and everything in between. ORR designers expected these walkers to be pushed to their limits with little maintenance and made them easy to fix so their operators could stay on the go. Further simplifying things, an Outback model was produced that keeps only the short-ranged scanners out of its sensor pack to reduce the costs for frontier settlers and law agencies seeking an urban vehicle or simply without the need for so sophisticated a set-up.
