OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
Isabelle Tam
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
After Yu had completed her complex con of marrying a wealthy aristocrat and milking him for what she could get, the first thing she did with her take was purchase a ship, the Pharaoh, and recruit a crew. In her early years, she lived on piracy and marauding. By the time she had moved to a second ship, the Pharaoh II, she began to veer away from the more violent crimes and began fine tuning her operation to smuggling.
Success allowed her to move to a larger ship, a frigate she named the Pharaoh III. Resuming her persona as a noble 'Lady', Yu began again to gear her services towards a more dicerning, and higher paying, line of clientele. Adding not only smuggling-friendly modifications to the ship, Yu also included luxury-class accommodations for VIP guests. By fine tuning the scope of her operation, and plugging into contacts made during her con years, Yu was able to build her current operation, and fund the founding of TranStar Logistics.

- Organization Name: Sandmoth
- Classification: Criminal Organization
- Affiliation: The Family

- Description: Code-named Sandmoth, after an insect native to Yu's homeworld of Glee Anselm, the operation is a small but very lucrative smuggling ring focusing on low volume, high-value contraband such as artwork, antiquities, advanced weaponry and spice. Even persons needing secure, under-the-scanners transport for themselves are served by Sandmoth. Operations are conducted out of Yu's modified frigate, the Pharaoh III, and several modified TIE assault shuttles and courier vessels with hidden and shielded smuggling compartments. The ship has facilities to regularly alter the exterior scheme of each ship, as well as falsify transponder identities. Using the Pharaoh as a floating hub and docking at 'beyond-reach' ports like Port Royal, Sandmoth operations can avoid much of the bureaucracy and law enforcement found in other planetary and station-based facilities.
Frequent transfer of cargo en route help conceal the trail of the contraband. One ship picks it up and delivers it to the Pharaoh, another takes it on aboard to move to another ship or location. From there it may be nestled aboard one of TranStar's giant haulers. TranStar vessels only take on or unload contraband in deep space, to keep the corporations records clean.
- Headquarters: The Pharaoh III
- Domain: N/A
- Notable Assets: See The Pharaoh III
- Hierarchy :At the top, of course, is Yu Karloo. Her Major-domo, Isabelle Tam, is her second. These two directly coordinate all jobs and assign handlers and captains. Crews report to the assigned captain.
- Membership: Yu does not contract ships or crew (with the exception of trusted associates of the Family), but instead treats her crews and support personnel as employees. Steady pay and benefits help garner loyalty from those in her operation. The actual smuggling operation is limited to a small, core workforce. Most everyone working aboard the Pharaoh may be aware that illicit activity takes place, but only those directly involved in the smuggling are aware of the details. Those directly involved number around 40. New 'employees' are either recommended by a trusted source, or recruited by Yu or Isabelle themselves. Anyone recommended by or from the Family are given priority consideration. Any new recruit must demonstrate excellence at a necessary skill, as well as display discernment and discretion.
- Climate: As mentioned before, the smuggling operation has the workings and feel of a corporation. Yu is fair and generous, but violation of her policies is dealt with swiftly and firmly. There is much risk involved in their line of work, and Yu does not leave members out to dry who have run afoul of the law or rivals, unless they have done so by their own poor judgement or stupidity.
- Reputation: Yu strives to ensure Sandmoth has a respected reputation, given the often elite nature of it's clientele. The operation has a 'boutique' feel, with personal attention and tailored service for those rare, valuable or highly illicit items needing secure transport.
- Curios: Yu has made sure that there is nothing to tie someone to Sandmoth.
- Rules: All new personnel receive an orientation and given expectations and standard protocols. It is also emphasized that loose cannons, excessive violence, disobeying directives or unnecessary risks are unacceptable.
- Goals The initial goal of Sandmoth was to acquire the capital to start Yu's legitimate business, TranStar Logistics. With that corporation well underway, Sandmoth now operates as a partner with The Family and to help achieve that organization's goals, as well as providing a source of funding for future endeavors both legal and illicit.
