Temple in the Swamp by hamaterasu25 on DeviantArt

Boom...
Crack....

Thunder and Lightning swirl into the atmosphere above the Planet of Mancharakorkon. A light drizzle of Acid rain poured down from those dark clouds of gloom and despair which cover this once vibrant landscape. The swampy and polluted water moved slowly across the landscape through cavern and cave, rushing like a tide of death planning to devour those that get too close to it. Not many would be foolish enough to come here without support, for the dangerous natives roamed the landscape. Those that trespassed would be killed without hesitation nor mercy. It was for this reason that the Saurton Mercenary and Bounty Hunter Karkosuchus had made this planet his home away from home.

A bounty had been called upon his head by the Northern Run Merchant Guild and the Saurton would make certain those that hunted him down would meet a swift but terrible end. He had been hunted before and the corpses of those that tried to take him down would be seen littered across the landscape leading up to the Temple of Mor'Kur. Although having fallen into disrepair all those centuries ago after the Ancient Hutt Empire left the planet to its own devices. Twist and turns occupied the temple walls now having long since been covered in tangled vines and brushes. Two large amphibian statues guarded the half broken entry way into the depths of the temple.

For those that arrived, the journey to reach this area would be difficult but not impossible to accomplish. Buried deep within the swamp made it difficult to reach by conventional methods. Only those that had the smarts and intelligence would be able to cross the murky terrain and avoid the hostile natives lurking about. Karkosuchus would have the territorial advantage plain and simple with his extensive knowledge of the layout. Traps had been installed around the perimeter ranging from falling logs to spike pits. Those pits would be sunken into the landscape without any form of technology which made detecting them much more difficult but one could manage.

Intelligence had been wired to the bounty hunters assigned to this mission. Their target at been spotted entering into the temple a few hours ago although where he had gone would be a mystery for them to figure out on the own. The compensation for the crocodilian lifeform was listed on the contract which featured the armor set of Monkrove Irs'Valachie Moldova and weaponry from the Merchant Alliance of Spindle VI. Although it was not much they could be sold at a much higher rate than normal.

One phrase was needed for this.

The Hunt was On!
This is just a beginning post to set the scene. I will make my official appearance when bounty hunters arrive at the temple.

As soon as the contract came up on the bounty board Jacste immediately accepted it and made the arrangements to get himself to Mancharakorkon to hunt the Saurton. He arrived and landed as close to the Temple of Mor'Kur as the dense swamplands would let him, which was still very far away. The Dark Jedi would have to make his way on door from here. He stepped off the boarding ramp of the ship he "borrowed" to get here.

There was mud and trees everywhere. If he walked on the ground he was sure to leave deep tracks in the muck. In order to give no more advantage to his target he'd have to make his way through the trees to get there. Squatting down before leaping into the canopy he disappeared, into the treeline. Careful not to land on the wrong branch and break it, which would give away his position, he made his way stealthily through the marshlands.

He wore his everyday assassin gear with his newly bought auto blasters, a rifle and a repeater hanging on straps from his shoulders to his sides. The rifle hung from his right shoulder in a way that gave his right hand easy access to the trigger, while the repeater was the same way, but on his left side. Being a Dark Jedi he also wore his black, red bladed lightsaber clipped to his belt on the left side of his hip. In his mind between all that and his skill with the force Jax was prepared for anything the swamp, it's natives or his target could throw at him. He was ready.

This rotten and polluted bog stank of filth and death, but for the price he could sell the armor and weapons the Northern Run Merchant Guild had offered as compensation for the capture of this "Karkosuchas" it was worth it. He'd prefer not to be here, but his past experience as both a Jedi and a bounty hunter gave him the skill and preparedness he needed to both survive and succeed. All he had to do now was wait for his prey to show itself, subdue the massive alien beast and collect his bounty. Easy.

As soon as the notice of a new bounty came in Diocletian was in warp speed before anyone could hassle him over docking fees. Some pen pusher hiked the prices up past what was deemed sane. What can you do during a serious full-scale war? While he was not going hunting he did end up getting a ship cat. Tovald convinced him it was a good idea and Diocletian agreed. Less of his edible provisions getting rodent sized bites taken out of them as a result. His feline companion is an extremely fluffy black Loong Cat. Right now Fuzzy is asleep on his bed or hiding in his sock drawer, between his red and Lilac socks. Who knew Tovald could read him like a book and declare, that he needed a cat.

From what the Bounty notice had said, this guy was big, scaly and a tough target. Diocletian smirked, difficult targets are the best targets. Of all the sentient beings he has captured or killed, a crocodilian was a new test of his abilities. He looked up the species and what they are and what weaknesses they have. This is a challenge he gladly accepts regardless of the difficulty. From what he dug up on Mancharakorkon. it is a swampy planet with plenty of humidity and odours. The Ubese didn't mind, he has been to the worst places you can think of. So muddy, sticky and smelly swamp muck was not of any concern to him.

Circling his ship around after leaving Hyperspace, he found a clear place to land, sealing his pet safely in the cockpit, he disembarked. Diocletian's brain started coming up with ideas as to where this Karkosuchus was or where would he hide in this sludge hole. The obvious answer would be the sticky water. No, that would be the way too obvious place to look.

Jai sat in the equipment room of the Cloud Breaker, quickly grabbing particle cartridges and his daggers. He looked at one of the locked boxes in the room, and just shook his head before quickly adding the finishing touch of his cloak.

"What are the conditions out their EW?" The peppy sounding droid would seen respond as she guided the ship into atmosphere.

"Mancharakorkon. Swamp planet, and where we're heading is covered in a storm right.... How well will an Enigma fly in a storm? Would it be like a sa...."

"Focus."

"Right. I'm not picking up any good landing spots for the Cloud Breaker. Might just have to jump out."

"Fun.... Ok. Keep her flying while I'm down there." Jai would quickly open the ramp and look down at the ground before jumping out, and landing with a splash. The corvette would then pull away, with EW sending one last transmission.

"I'm picking up other ships too. I guess this worlds popular."

"Sure.... Popular." The bounty hunter grumbled a bit as he got to some semblance of land. He knew where this massive crocodilian was, but that was about it. Hopefully the other hunters that would show up would mind an extra gun or two.

Song:

Shakka had set the Song down on the driest and sturdiest piece of land she could find. As she consolidated her gear she looked over the bounty again she was still surprised that the Northern Run Merchant Guild didn’t want the Saurton dead for his numerous crimes but it wasn’t her position to judge the motives of the bounties contractors. She settled the ship down into low powered stealth mode before reviewing the map of the planet intel indicated Saurton had a favored hidey hole of an ancient hutt temple. There seemed to be no easy path to the temple not that she would trust an easy way anyways as the old axiom went the easy way is always mined.

She stepped out into the swamp with her sensors running a full sweep as she did so no evident signs of technology popped up which made her even wearier than before traps where expected as the data suggested this place was a favored spot of her target. She knew this hunt would not be easy but she relished that challenge. She carefully tread further into the swamp.

The game was afoot.

Soft but firm footsteps carried the Saurton Bounty Hunter and Mercenary. His snout smelling the air for the subtle changes in vibrations that occured around his home of Mor'Kur. The Ancient Hutt Temple had served him well over the years as a safe place from the troubles of being a bounty hunter. He cleaned his weaponry while inside one of the broken and cracked walls that now occupied the once pristine surface.

He snapped his jaw a bit around his cigar within his mouth. Karkosuchus had picked up the sudden vibration of a starship flying nearby although the actual noise was faint due to the distance between his and its overall location. He slung his heavy blaster rifle around his shoulder and leapt down into the swampy water. Sinking beneath the murkiness to use the river currents to get into an ambush spot.

Using his powerful legs to push himself through the currents, he arrived at a small pond which was about 1 mile away from his abode. Leaping out of the water and grabbing onto a vine covered tree with his powerful claws. Beginning to climb up the tree with precision. Sitting upon a branch that could support his weight. He stayed still without moving an inch to avoid generalized detection. Smelling the air around him to pick up foreign scents.

All that was left was to see who would arrive first at this small pond.

The swamp seemed to get more dense and lush as Jacste went farther in toward his target destination. More disgusting too. The smell of rotting death and pollution was only becoming more pungent. Only an animal like the lizard he hunted would choose to live here. Disgusting.

Still jumping through the trees the Dark Jedi bounty hunter could sense he was getting closer. He could sense more life in this direction. He could sense a lot of creatures nearby, it was possible one of them was his bounty. He could dream anyway. As he kept going he began to hear voices. There were some kind of creatures talking nearby. As he got closer he realized his prey was not among them. He also realized they were incredibly ugly. They appeared to be some kind of savage fish-people with spears. They reminded him of the dinner he had the other night.

Pointing his ND21 Hayabusa Assault Blaster at them he peeked through the scope to get a better look at them. Ope! That was a bad idea, they were even uglier now. He didn't even know what they were, but he knew he hated the sight of them. Disgusted with these newly discovered aliens he couldn't hold back the urge for violence anymore. He didn't even know what they were, but he knew he hated the sight of the disgusting savages. Some say he's mentally unbalanced and prone to random, unprovoked acts of violence... And they were right! He fired off multiple shots in the direction of the fish creatures from behind cover in the trees, about 30 feet away.

He had a silencer equipped so they couldn't tell which direction it was coming from except for the muzzle flash, which they weren't looking for and didn't see since they were unaware they were under attack until they were dead. Eight fish-men fell into the mud, dead before they hit the ground. Some had burning holes through their heads, others their chests, some had both. Some even received a precise shot to the neck. None were breathing.

Jacste sniffed in through one nostril, rather pleased with himself as he moved the scope away from his eye and snickered then lowered the rifle back to his side. He kept moving inward for about another mile when the foliage started to get thicker. So thick he had to pull his lightsaber out to cut through it.

Song:

She sealed her suit and jumped into the water. Any other approach would have betrayed her movement long before she ever made it in range of the target. The steady pulse of her jet pack moved her through the water; the sonic disturbance it made despite being muffled by the water kept anything looking for a quick meal from approaching her too closely, an added benefit of this mode of transport. That said she kept her scanners up and out. No sense relaxing, especially not on a world like this.

The multispectrum sensors gave her a clear view of the water way ahead of her. She was able to navigate with a surprising amount of ease, all things considered. That she was glad of as she had intentionally landed much far out to hide her presence. While she had little doubt Karkosuchus knew bounty hunters were coming for him she wouldn’t hand him any advantage if she could help it.

While others might go in guns blazing she was going to perform reconnaissance. The file she had been handed was light just a rap sheet and the known whereabouts that had lead her here. If she could she take her time but time likely wasn't on her side here so failing that she would at least wait and capitalize on the mistakes of the other hunters.

It was not long after that another ship joined into the steadily growing gang of bounty hunters after the sentient crocodillian. A beat-up, yet restored, U-Wing called the Wild Hound, personal ship of the Nikto Klytiss Dai. The rough-skinned hunter disembarked from his ship, taking note of his surroundings. Swampy, rainy, and humid. Disgusting. This planet reminded him much of Nal Hutta, when his Vosadii masters would bring him along in their retinue. It was no wonder that the slugs had presence here in ancient and modern times. The terrain was also too difficult to maneuver on his speeder bike.

"I guess we're doing it the old-fashioned way." He muttered, gathering his rifle and beginning his hike

The last coordinates that the Northern Run Merchant Guild had the reptilian at was near an ancient, seemingly abandoned temple a few clicks from his location. He kept his guard up, as he knew that he was playing on his quarry's turf. That, and he was not stupid as to think he was the only hunter replying to this open contract. Some bounty hunters tended not to play nice with others. Thus, he continued forward, awaiting the moment he would either find trace of his prey....or get shot at it. Whichever came first.

His long snout smelled through the dense atmosphere, picking up a faint scent of blood from the south. No doubt some of the natives had been killed by the bounty hunters hunting him down. Karkosuchus moved his head a slight turn to the right, picking up on the distinct but faint smell of beskar due to them closer to him since he had moved from the temple hideout. Either a mandalorian had arrived or someone was posing as one.

Although the saurton wouldn't complain if they wanted to test his might on the field of battle. If they were a proper mandalorian than they would no doubt have an equipment bonus compared to himself whose large size made carrying armor or equipment more difficult. Once sure of the two people that were close enough for him to smell. The saurton leaped from the tree branch that he currently was on into the water, sinking into the depths.

His main advantage was that he was vastly faster in water than on land due to his crocodilian like form. Allowing him to peddle through the murky water without much difficulty. Having used his sense of smell to come closer to one Shakka Bralor Shakka Bralor who was about 15 meters away. Climbing out of the water a bit into a patch of deep grass, he poked out his heavy blaster rifle and began spraying in that direction. A couple of rounds soured ahead at the hunter's general direction.

He leapt back into the water with a quick flash, using those shots as a warning to back off. Moving through the water using various tunnels that he had created to arrive somewhere else. He sensed the smell of Hastor Trosk Hastor Trosk and moved closer, leaping out of the water close to him. His 11 foot size gazed down at the hunter as he clutched his fingers on his heavy blaster rifle.

The hunt was on and the saurton was going to savor it.

Jacste spotted the crocodilian in the tree from about a quarter mile away in a higher tree. He seemed to travel paths underwater that made it.easy to attack multiple opponents in different places. He traced his life energy through the force and was able to track when Karkosuchus submerged and reemerged to assault one hunter then moved to intercept another.

The Dark Jedi Assassin moved in before the Saurton emerged before Hastor Trosk Hastor Trosk and came to help him fight off the crocodilian. The mercenary was smart enough to know it was quicker to take down this monster as a team, not that he wouldn't betray him after it was over though. He pulled out his ND40 Kase Blaster Repeater and started firing bolts toward the reptilian, shooting on automatic fire mode.

Above her huge sections of water transformed into roiling pockets of steam as blaster bolts rained into the water turning it crimson red. The element of stealth was lost; she burst from the water to seek her quarry only to find he had disappeared into the water once more.

"Kriff this one really isn't going to be easy is it?"

Perhaps her stealth chance wasn't over yet. At least with her quarries disappearance she could at least try another chance at it. It was time for Ba'slan shev'la. She took off into the sky flying towards the temple her intel had pointed her to into the first place. She landed and quick submerged into the water but this time she mixed with the mud hopefully fully disguising her scent and thermal signature. She powered down as much of her armor as safely and tactically as she could and began to wait.
