What: Republic Security
Where: They are their own unit, answering only to planetary governors, ministers, and the president.

Why: Past versions of the Republic have been plagued by negative publicity and a popular propoganda machine because of units within their ranks becoming "loose canons." These people have committed atrocities and crimes against the non-combative forces of the galaxy and been allowed to get away with it, or given minor slaps on the wrist for their actions. Additionally, criminal elements have risen to prominence in years past within the shelter of the Republic, undermining efforts for peace by breeding a culture of fear, dependence, and illegality. A growth in crime permeates a growth in negativity and the slow, steady decline of a government.
Because of this, RepSec was created. In the past this duty was handled by each individual world. By creating a Republic wide force, with a centralized command structure, the ease at which Republic Security forces can become corrupted is somewhat diminished, making it more effective. This additionally allows for an easy and coordinated pursuit of law enforcement across all worlds, creates a force capable of hunting down war criminals and regular criminals alike, and creates a secondary planetary defense force due to the high level of training implemented by the upper brass and the quality of equipment which RepSec personnel carry. RepSec is not a bunch of suits with holstered pistols.
