Intent: To sub the galaxies hardiest Datapad.
Development Thread: N/A
Manufacturer: Vanir Technologies
Model: DB Datapad
Affiliation: Open-Market
Modularity: Minor
Production: Mass-Produced
Material: Titanium, Carbo-Plas, Solarium Glasteel

Strengths:
  • Hardy: The DB Datapad is designed from the ground up to be the most physically hardy piece of equipment that one could possible imagine. The small device was designed from the ground up to be shock proof, shatterproof, pressure proof, and half a dozen other different elements that most wouldn't even think of. The device was made to function through all elements, abuse, and negligent. One could quite literally throw the DB Datapad against a wall, hit it with a hammer, and it would still work. This makes the datapad perfect for warzones, extreme elemental conditions, and use by angry teenagers.
  • Solar Powered: Critically, and what sets it apart from other datapads aside from it's sturdy construction, the DB Datapad is build with a Solarium Glasteel outline. This material is the most sensitive part of the entire construct, though not by much. The Glasteel has been laminated to prevent shattering and cracks, allowing it to be the same standard as the rest of the Datapad while still maintaining it's function. This function of course is supplying the Datapad with power. Along with it's regular plug, the DB Datapad draws energy from the sun whenever the device is opened, allowing it to charge from simple solar energy.
Weaknesses:
  • Expensive: Although the DB Datapad is incredibly sturdy and robust the materials used in its construction make the device incredibly expensive. One could buy a datapad with similar specifications for about a third the price of the DB Datapad. Make no mistake, this thing is not meant as a day to day datapad and it's cost more than reflects this.
  • Heavy: Similarly to it's expense problems, the DB Datapad is also incredibly heavy. Constructed mostly from Titanium and Solarium Glasteel, the device is by it's very nature quite weighty. The DB Datapad weighs almost twice as much as the standard datapad even with it's slim design and sleek form. This makes the device more of a pain to carry around.

Description:
Though there are a lot of datapads and similar communications devices in the galaxy, there are few which are meant to survive the rigors and trials of the extremes. This has become an all too common theme during the last few decades with war ravaging much of the galaxy.

As most military organizations are beginning to find out reliable electronics are both difficult to produce, and few and far in between. Though technologies exist that can function in certain environments, it is difficult to find something that functions in all of them. The DB Datapad is designed to do just that, with the added bonus of being incredibly difficult to destroy. The device was built from the ground up to survive pretty much any kind of punishment, being put to the test in Sandstorms, Blizzards, Thunderstorms, Subzero temperatures, and dozens of other extreme tests.

It is safe to say that the DB Datapad is the ultimate in survivable electronics technology, having even withstood several blastershots before finally ceasing it's function. About the only thing the Datapad can't survive is a lightsaber.

Due to the expense in it's manufacture, as well as it's weight, the DB Datapad is mostly marketed to military or exploratory organizations. The device costs three times as much as the standard datapad and thus is a hard sell to most common citizens in the galaxy, to military organizations and those who frequently visit worlds like Mustafar or Tatooine a device like the DB Datapad is invaluable.
