Seeking a stylish way to hide her bioluminescence as it flares up under stressful situations, Zaiya turned to Chi’s Boutique to craft her a cloak. She had a few simple wishes along with concealing her mood reflections, protection from blasters, Sith Lightning, lightsabers, and having pockets was a must!
To solve the Lovalla’s primary concern, the inner layer is composed of shadowsilk, a smooth light-absorbing material often found in shadowsuits. Should this prove to be insufficient or Zaiya need an advantage, light absorbing cells are woven as an integrated webbing throughout the cloak. On activation they emit an electromagnetic field that bends light creating a zone of total darkness in every direction that Zaiya can see through with thermal sensors or her natural ability to see into the ultraviolet spectrum. The field follows the cloak with a near imperceptible delay and fluctuates on the edges lending a look of billowing darkness as light and shadow swirl while concealing Zaiya’s exact location in the center.
Against attacks, banterweave sandwiches a layer of woven Echani graphite spun into a fine mesh that disperses and absorbs blaster and saber strikes without breaking or melting. These layers are further backed by concussive absorbing material to eliminate the main drawback to cloth armors by lessening and spreading kinetic forces striking the garment.
Luxurious wrinkle-resistant tomuon cloth makes the fine outer layer of the cloak. For the embroidery, Chi and her assistant Ji-Ji traded off hand stitching the intricate floral details that encompass the majority of the cloak’s surface. That task alone took nearly a week itself, but was well-worth it to elevate the piece while evoking a similarity to the satchel Zaiya carries to remember her mother by. The needlepoint also hides tear-away emp and stun pearls along the front of the cloak, non-lethal charges with a three meter blast radius. A little bit of subtle trickery to help her out of troublesome spots.
Breakaway clasps prevent the cloak from being grabbed and used to control or pull Zaiya in a fight, though they require a bit of force to work, preventing them from becoming undone by accident. Similar clasps also hold a face mask folded away in a special pocket along the hood. Made of shadowsilk and a similar layering as the rest of the cloak, Chi included it to hide Zaiya’s facial markings. Finally, following every girl’s heart when it comes to clothing, Chi made sure to integrate a pair of interior pockets along the garment’s front where added weight hopefully wouldn’t pull the cloak’s shape out of line. An additional pair are sized conceal lightsabers and there are several small cylindrical pockets perfect for code cylinders, styluses, or hair sticks adjacent to the main pockets.
