I've counted thrice—that supposed lucky number—
but I can't find my composure.
That's the only equipment the desert seemed to disencumber
me after a displaced a Genetian sun caught me in his direct exposure.
Perhaps you took it home
to display alongside the fossil we found.
Perhaps you'll let it grow there honeycomb
so that we may always be somehow bound.

When I first saw it, spinning the sunlight into more gold,
I thought of you.
Do you even know the power your eyes hold?
They pull love bit by bit from my heart until I'm see-through.
My favorite sweater is knit from that twine,
but you wouldn't know,
because I didn't wear it out soon enough—but I promise everyday I admire the hemline
and bask in your sun's afterglow.

I used to wonder why
I lost vision and clarity in my eye,
but now I know the answer I lost at Theed:
You're the only sense that I need
and I would forego much more to have you guaranteed
to me that my world could again amplify.
But all I have is the memory of a goodbye
and I again wonder why.
