Valery blinked in surprise as Kahlil leaned in and stole a kiss, cutting her off mid-sentence. Her words dissolved completely, her amber eyes widening just slightly before fluttering closed for that brief moment. When he pulled back, she stared up at him, cheeks flushed a soft pink, and cleared her throat awkwardly.

“I… I did the thing again, didn’t I?” she murmured, the faintest laugh slipping out as she rubbed at the back of her neck. Her gaze softened as she stepped closer, taking his hands in hers and looking up into his eyes with that loving, familiar warmth that only he ever got to see.

“I’m just too excited,” Valery admitted, her voice a gentle hum of happiness. “Spintir, the memories… you, me, and her.” She rested one hand over her belly again, her fingers brushing lightly against the coat she’d just put on.

Sometimes, she just needed the reset.

She paused, then a playful pout tugged at her lips as her gaze narrowed ever so slightly. “And for the record, I won’t get a fever,” she added with faux indignation, her tone teasing but firm. “If anyone’s going to worry about me too much, it’s you. I’ll be fine, I promise.”

Her pout melted into a soft smile as she squeezed his hands gently. “Now come on, love. You said I overthink — so let’s just go before I get started again,” she quipped with a chuckle, already tugging him along toward the ship with renewed excitement.

"Yes, lets."

Kahlil chuckled softly before he nodded his head and lead the way right to the Bastion for them to settle down in. And by them, he had Valery settling down on the couch while he got to the controls to get the ship lifted up and heading towards the destination before he was right back at her side, leaning over the couch to hug her waist from behind and feel over the baby bump.

"So, why are we going there for your pregnancy?"

Valery pouted the moment Kahlil left her side, her amber eyes narrowing at him as he headed for the ship’s controls. She curled herself more comfortably into the couch, arms folding lightly across her belly as she listened to the hum of the Bastion preparing for takeoff.

When the gentle shift of Hyperspace kicked in, signaling that the ship was on its way, Valery’s ears perked at the familiar sound of Kahlil’s footsteps approaching again. Her pout faded into a soft smile as she felt his arms wrap around her from behind, the warmth of his embrace and the gentle way he traced her growing baby bump melting away any lingering mock indignation.

“You’re so cute,” she teased softly, leaning her head back against his shoulder as he hovered close. Her fingers brushed over his arms, snuggling further into him like he was her favorite blanket. And, well, he kind of was.

His question made her pause, though, a small smile tugging at the corner of her lips. “It’s not for the pregnancy,” Valery admitted, glancing back up at him with a faint blush coloring her cheeks. “It’s… for us. For our anniversary.”

She looked down, her hands absently moving to rest over his, where they cradled her belly. “I wanted to go back to one of the places where it all started,” she said softly, her voice carrying a mix of shyness and nostalgia.

M977SXg.png

"And you say I'm the cute one." He chuckled lightly as he nuzzled his cheek to hers for a brief moment, then let his chin rest on her shoulder as he closed his eyes. "It sounds nice, though. I really look forward to wherever you're planning for us to go. Though, we're not going to the temple. Not after the last time and the wolves that attacked us anyway."

Valery let out a soft huff, her lips forming a playful pout as she tilted her head slightly to nudge him. "The Temple is totally fine," she protested, her amber eyes narrowing in mock indignation. "The wolves aren't going to come after us again. Besides, we handled them just fine last time."

She paused for a beat, her gaze flickering with a hint of amusement. "...Okay, maybe not the caves," she admitted with a small laugh.

Leaning back against him again, her expression softened, and her pout melted into a warm smile. "I want to start at the little village at the foot of the mountain this time," she said, her voice carrying a note of excitement. "Do you remember it? The cozy little homes, the warm fires, and how everything smelled like pine and fresh snow? It's the perfect winter vibe."

Her hand reached up to brush lightly against his cheek, her smile deepening as she looked into his eyes. "I promise, no wolves, no caves — just cozy winter moments. And if you’re really good, I might even let you win a snowball fight this time." Her teasing grin returned as she leaned in, her forehead resting gently against his.

M977SXg.png

"Mm cozy winter vibes is something I can agree with. Is it the same cabin from before?" The memory was vague, but there. His smile softened as he more or less just cuddled Valery while she was on the couch, idly tracing his hands over her stomach every chance he got just in case their daughter was already awake and kicking. He snickered though as she mentioned a snowball fight. An eye peeked open, a smug smile now on his lips.

"You lost the last one, Mrs. no pants in winter."

Valery’s smile widened as she relaxed further into his embrace, the memory of that little cabin warming her thoughts. “Yep, it’s the same one,” she said softly. “Right in the coziest part of town. Perfect spot to just… escape for a while.” Her voice carried a dreamy quality, her fingers idly tracing patterns along his arm as she thought about the snowy village and the warmth they’d shared there.

But then, his smug remark about the snowball fight brought her back to the moment. Her amber eyes narrowed, and she tilted her head back to glare at him, her lips forming an exaggerated pout. “Excuse me,” she huffed, crossing her arms dramatically. “I was wearing a perfectly appropriate skirt and tights, thank you very much. You’re the one who blew snow up my dress! That was totally unfair.”

She gave a small, playful shove against his chest and added with a playful tone, “If anything, you got disqualified for foul play. So really, I won.”

Her pout cracked into a teasing smirk as she tilted her head to the side, clearly relishing the banter. “But if you want a rematch, Mr. snowball-cheater, I’m happy to prove my victory again. You’ll just have to play by the rules this time.”

M977SXg.png

"You brought the Force into it first. Don't dish out what you can't take in response." He fired right back with his ever smug expression. Even as she pouted, his grin only widened. He knew she couldn't keep the pout going forever, after all. Sure enough, it cracked, and his laughed in turn. "You've never beaten me in a snowball fight, and at this rate, I don't think you ever will."

Valery gasped dramatically, her amber eyes widening as she turned to face him fully. "Oh, excuse me," she said, placing a hand on her hip while the other gestured wildly at her very obvious baby bump. "If I wasn't carrying your child, I'd be out there pelting you with snowballs until you admitted defeat. And you know it."

She poked a finger at his chest, her expression mock-serious, though the sparkle of amusement in her eyes betrayed her. "You're lucky I'm pregnant. Otherwise, I'd fight you right here, right now."

Her playful demeanor only lasted a moment before her expression softened into a warm smile. She leaned back against him again, resting her hands gently over his, where they cradled her belly. "But I guess you're safe for now," she teased with a soft laugh.

She tilted her head back to look up at him, her smile glowing with affection. "We should be getting close to Spintir, though. I can't wait to see the people again, curl up by the fire with you… and maybe plot my revenge for the next snowball fight," she added with a mischievous glint in her eye.

M977SXg.png

"You threatened me and used the fact your pregnant as an excuse twice. I think you're leaning on our poor daughter too much as a crutch when you know you'd loose." Kahlil was doing his best to not fully laugh but he was getting pretty close to it. She wanted so bad to throw a snowball at him, but knew she couldn't. Like a cat trapped in a box and so angry at their owners not helping them.

"You don't have too much longer to plan, though. So you'd best be ready as soon as you can be my love."

Valery gasped dramatically again, her amber eyes widening as she turned to glare at him, though her laughter quickly bubbled up and betrayed the act. “It’s a valid excuse!” she said with a huff, Carrying your child means I get to pull the pregnancy card as often as I want, thank you very much.”

Her laughter softened into a warm, affectionate chuckle, and she leaned in closer to him, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “But don’t you worry, my love. Revenge will be mine,” she said sweetly, her tone dripping with faux menace, though the adoration in her gaze made it impossible to take seriously.

The ship suddenly lurched as it dropped out of hyperspace, and Valery turned her head to glance out the viewport, the snow-covered planet of Spintir slowly coming into view. She grinned, a look of pure mischief spreading across her face as she glanced back at him.

“You’d better watch your back, Kahlil Noble,” she said, her voice playful and teasing. “Because the moment this baby is born and I can move properly again, you’re going down.”

With that, she placed a quick kiss on his cheek, her laughter filling the space between them as the ship began its descent. Even in moments like these, with snowball fights and playful banter, there was nothing but love between them.

M977SXg.png

"Oh you absolutely can, but double dipping the same excuse in just as many breathes is poor form, my beautiful wife." Kahlil was just all teasing at this point, his smugness only growing. "You can absolutely try, but you'll jut loose, as you did before. Pants or not. You're my fire, cold isn't your strongsuit my love."

Valery gasped softly at his teasing, her amber eyes narrowing playfully as she gave his arm a light, mock-punishing swat. "Poor form? I'll show you poor form," she said with an exaggerated huff, though the laughter bubbling in her voice betrayed her amusement. She leaned in closer, her tone turning softer but still brimming with mischief. "Cold may not be my strong suit, but that's why I have you to keep me warm, isn't it?"

Her smile grew warmer as she reached for his hand, her fingers lacing through his. The playful banter settled into a comforting quiet between them, the love they shared woven into every glance and touch.

The ship's descent began in earnest, and the familiar snowy terrain of Spintir came into view through the viewport. The sprawling village at the foot of the mountain was dotted with warm, glowing lights, and the sight of the Bastion approaching stirred a flurry of activity below. As they touched down, the ramp lowered to reveal a small crowd gathering, their faces lighting up with recognition and excitement at the sight of the familiar vessel.

Valery stepped forward, her boots crunching softly against the freshly fallen snow as the crisp air nipped at her cheeks. She turned to glance at Kahlil, her fiery gaze now tempered with a deep fondness. Reaching out, she clasped his hand, her grip firm and reassuring.

"Looks like they remember us," she said softly, her smile widening as the villagers began to wave and approach, their joy radiating despite the cold. For Valery, the warmth of their reception was almost as comforting as the hand she held.

Nothing quite compared to holding his hand.

M977SXg.png

"Odd they do."

Or was it? They hadn't been there in some time, but they were also part of the Jedi Council. People knew who they were on average. He smiled and waved, staying by Valery's side to help her, even though she didn't need it. He couldn't stop that part of his mind, after all. The loving, caring side that wanted to keep her safe and comfortable was in full show now. He couldn't, wouldn't, hide it with her being so pregnant.

"Want to explore town for a bit before we go to the cottage?"

Valery's fiery amber gaze softened as she felt Kahlil's presence steady beside her. She squeezed his hand lightly, her other arm resting gently over her very visible belly as they walked down the snowy path into the heart of the village. The cheerful greetings from the villagers brought a warmth to her that no amount of snow could chill. She waved back, her smile radiant, but she couldn't resist leaning closer to Kahlil as they moved along.

"I'd love to explore town," she said, her voice filled with quiet excitement As they approached a set of stone stairs dusted with snow, Valery paused, giving Kahlil a sidelong glance. With his steady grip, she ascended the stairs with a light laugh, her warmth melting through the crisp chill around them. At the top, her eyes lit up as she spotted a small market tucked into the main square. The soft glow of Life Day lights twinkled around the stalls, and the scent of cocoa and spiced treats wafted through the air.

"Oh, look," she said, tugging his hand gently as she gestured toward the market. "Sweaters, toys, cocoa… This might just be perfect."

As they moved through the market, the villagers continued to wave and greet them warmly, though one figure approached with particular enthusiasm. A wiry older man with a heavy coat and a cap tilted slightly askew came bounding over, his face lighting up as his gaze landed on Kahlil.

"Well, well!" the man exclaimed, his weathered hands clapping together with delight. "I'd know that face anywhere. Still remember when you brought us those supply crates back in the day. When you were helping the lass rebuild the Temple." He chuckled warmly and looked between them, "Looks like you've managed to impress her."

Valery turned to Kahlil, her eyes sparkling with mischief as she raised a brow. "Supply runs, huh?" she said, the corners of her lips curling into a teasing smirk. "Or were these smuggling runs?~" she teased with a sing-song voice.

Her tone was light, playful, but there was no mistaking the pride that laced her words. As the man recounted a few of Kahlil's past exploits, Valery couldn't help but lean closer, giving his hand another squeeze.

M977SXg.png

"Most likely smuggling runs."

Kahlil responded casually, offering his trademark kind smile to the older man. He never hid his past, or his actions and choices during those times. He smuggled a good number of goods across the stars, though only ever to the people suffering. Medicine and food to the slaves on Tatooine, weaponry and defenses to the small villages ignored by their governors.

"I'd say I did. And I couldn't be happier about it."

Valery's radiant smile widened, and she let out a soft laugh as she wrapped both arms snugly around Kahlil's arm, leaning her head lightly against his shoulder. "My little smuggler," she teased, her voice warm and filled with affection. "It's kind of exciting that you were such a bad boy once~" She gave his arm a playful squeeze, clearly enjoying the teasing attempts.

As they wandered through the market, the cocoa stand's inviting aroma drew them closer. Valery's fiery amber eyes flicked up to his, the mischievous glint in them unmistakable. "So, about your smuggling days," she began casually, her voice carrying a lilting curiosity, "I know Sassshra was a part of that chapter, but... were there any others you used to work with or hang out with back then?"

She paused for just a moment, brushing a strand of hair from her face as the snowy breeze played with it. "Friends, allies... people who mattered to you? Maybe someone we could still find? As long as they're not, you know, crazy ex-girlfriends or anything." Her tone was light and teasing, but the subtle lift of her brow hinted at a touch of jealousy beneath the surface.

She was never able to suppress that.

Valery reached for one of the cocoa cups handed to her from the vendor, the warmth spreading through her hands as she took a sip. Her gaze softened as she looked back up at him. "I'm just curious," she added with a smile, her tone genuine. "I was there for the final days of you being one, but we've never much talked about it." She knew everything about his Sith past, but she came to realize that his smuggler days were mostly gray area, beyond knowing how he had helped some communities.

M977SXg.png

"I think smuggling is the least of my bad boy phase, you know." Another chuckle escaped him as he squeezed Valery's hand in turn as she squeezed his arm. Grant it, when she brought up his past crew his smiled dimmed just a little. "We had a crew. All of us kids, but trying to make it work together. Not sure what happened to the others, honestly."

He couldn't find them, even now.

"There's not much else to really tell about it. When I left the Silvers over their war with the Mandalorians, I just.. Traveled. And did the jobs I could while kind of being a Jedi."

Valery's grin widened, her fiery amber eyes sparkling with playful mischief as she leaned a little closer to him. "Oh, you're absolutely right," she said, her tone light and teasing. "You're in your bad boy phase now, and I have to admit, I kind of like it~" Her voice carried a playful lilt, and she gave his arm another affectionate squeeze, clearly enjoying the banter.

"An old friend of mine told me that I have a thing for bad boys."

As they continued walking through the market, her expression softened a bit at his mention of his old crew. "I hope we run into them again someday," she said, her voice genuine. "They're a part of who you were, and if they were out there trying to make things work together, they must have been good people. It'd be nice to know where life took them."

She moved toward the cocoa stand, retrieving two steaming cups of the warm drink. The sweet, spiced aroma filled the air as she turned back to him, offering him one of the cups. "Until you went to New Cov that one day and ran into this very wise Jedi Master," she added with a smirk, her teasing tone back in full force. "Who, let's be honest, turned your life completely around~"

Valery chuckled softly, taking a sip of her cocoa before looking up at him again. "Do you ever miss those days, though? The smuggling, the traveling — doing things your own way?" Her question was warm and curious, and her expression showed that she truly wanted to hear his thoughts.

Their bond already gave her lots of answers to the questions she had, but sometimes it was nice to just... talk about it.

M977SXg.png

Kahlil raised a brow as he glanced to Valery. He was quiet as he sort of just let her speak, more curious on what she was leading up to ask. He doubted they'd ever see his old crew again. They just weren't around anymore, but Kahlil had a feeling there was a question Valery was building up to ask. He chuckled. A full on chuckle as he reached over to boop her forehead. "You always find a way to ask these questions. Do I miss my past, or who I was before, or where I came from or the like. I don't really get why. My past is my past. I don't regret my past, good or bad. Everything lead me to here, to you. I've no regrets, or doubts. What about you, love? What's going through your head that you feel the need to ask?"
