Valery blinked in surprise as Kahlil leaned in and stole a kiss, cutting her off mid-sentence. Her words dissolved completely, her amber eyes widening just slightly before fluttering closed for that brief moment. When he pulled back, she stared up at him, cheeks flushed a soft pink, and cleared her throat awkwardly.
“I… I did the thing again, didn’t I?” she murmured, the faintest laugh slipping out as she rubbed at the back of her neck. Her gaze softened as she stepped closer, taking his hands in hers and looking up into his eyes with that loving, familiar warmth that only he ever got to see.
“I’m just too excited,” Valery admitted, her voice a gentle hum of happiness. “Spintir, the memories… you, me, and her.” She rested one hand over her belly again, her fingers brushing lightly against the coat she’d just put on.
Sometimes, she just needed the reset.
She paused, then a playful pout tugged at her lips as her gaze narrowed ever so slightly. “And for the record, I won’t get a fever,” she added with faux indignation, her tone teasing but firm. “If anyone’s going to worry about me too much, it’s you. I’ll be fine, I promise.”
Her pout melted into a soft smile as she squeezed his hands gently. “Now come on, love. You said I overthink — so let’s just go before I get started again,” she quipped with a chuckle, already tugging him along toward the ship with renewed excitement.
