Badass Bookworm
This writer does point out that Phylis was probably away for quite a while. One can only nerdgasm for so long. Besides, she rolled a 19 on her Research skill check....
Phylis didn't notice (or acknowledge) Siobhan's grumpiness. She immediately launched into her tale.
"So, the Codex was lost 300 cycles ago, that's 570 standard years. What happened is that an outsider ship arrived, bringing Jedi Knight Malya Helindan back home for the first time in almost a century. She requested an audience with Queen Maelys II on a matter of great urgency. She claimed that she had information that tied into the codex's contents. She had found information elsewhere about the Eldorai which tied into something the Codex said. The Queen's councillors were not happy, but they agreed to let her see it the next day. Now, overnight there was a break in, the Codex was stolen from the vaults and several Angelii and guards killed. Suspicion fell on Malya and a large force stormed the space station. Malya was mortally wounded by the Queen's Champion, but in turn killed her opponent. Their ship took off, and the Eldorai could not stop them. Malya died, and it was assumed the Codex went with her into space and was lost."
"But we know all this already," Lavina said impatiently.
Phylis smiled grimly. "But I don't think that's right at all. I've looked at the reports here from eyewitnesses and reports from investigators. I don't think she did this at all. I think someone else stole the Codex and pinned it on her."
There was silence. Lavina had gone a bit red.
