A Different Breed.

Rebellious Vanguard
Ventasia stood before the Jedi Temple, as did many other hopefuls, the slight breeze rolling through her scarlett-hued locks. Her eyes panned about, bouncing between those that surrounded her. All of these beings had come for the same rrason she had. To be trained by the Jedi. Some had lived before the Temple for the entire two weeks she had been coming before sacred place. Arms crossed over her chest, she scoffed, hardly impressed by the 'competition' that surrounded her. Already, before even being picked to be trained, she was confident enough to consider herself the best of the lot. Though, at this point, it was more arrogance than anything else. She sighed heavily as her foot began to tap rythmically on the ground.

"Some 'saviors of the galaxy'. Can't even be bothered to show their faces.."

Determined to make herself stand out more, Ventasia sopke her mind aloud. This drew the ire of most around her. She enjoyed the attention, throughly at that. The feeling of having all eyes on her actually relaxed her, even as her temper quickly began nearing its boiling point. Usually, anything Ventasia wanted was hers for the taking. And if she couldn't readily have it, she certainly wasn't against using her looks to gain it. However, for the first time in possibly her life, no amount of vicous looks or seduction would bring her goal any closer. With no other option in mind, she stood there. Her impatience ready to erupt, Ventasia began to pace from one side to the other and back again, walking just a few feet before turning to walk the other direction. Her eyes locked onto the Jedi Temple as she plotted her next move.

Jaxton Ravos

Mindwalker of the Outer Rim
Why me? Jaxton thought to himself as he lay cooped up in a chair. He had been called in to train a new batch of padawans, but Jaxton didn't feel qualified in the slightest. He had only been knighted for about a week and half, but that was long enough to get him on 'Jedi Jury Duty' as some of the less enthusiastic of his peers called it.

The process started like he expected it would, with a meeting. That Jaxton still happened to be in actually. They had gotten pamplets and files and various other info on each of the padawans gathered outside. Not to mention the holomoniter they had that was showing them a live view of the padawans. The knights around him conversed and discussed how to train, who to train, what to train, but Jaxton kept his mouth shut. If he had to teach a kid, he wanted to meet them as he taught them, not before.

So Jaxton kept his eyes on the holomoniter, watching how the padawans reacted to the anxiety of the wait. How they treated each other, what they hid from others. Finally he saw a woman get up and just call them out.

"Some 'saviors of the galaxy', can't even show their faces." She complained, attacking the knights and master's idea of 'haste. Jaxton stood up, pointed at the woman on the holomoniter, and spoke for the first time.

"Dibs." Jaxton claimed, then walked out of the room and to the unassigned padawans, despite the protest of the knights and masters inside. Jaxton continued on, walking towards the woman, gaining stares from the padawans as his towering figure cut between them. He reached the woman and then tapped her shoulder to get her attention.

"Sup?"

Anxious, and sick of waiting, Ventasia turned her back to the Temple, a heavy sigh escaping her lips. She hadn't cared about the opinions of the others around her, even in slightest. Even without hearing the words directly, she knew they were all busy judging her. But that meant nothing to her. Ventasia's own agenda came before anyone else's in her her own mind.

Having become sick of standing around, Ventasia perpared to walk off. Another day waisted was what ran through her head. How long would she have to continue to spend her days standing in front what was supposedley a 'sacred' building. Before she could even take the slightest step forward, a finger made contact with her shoulder. With her body still facinf outward, her head turned just enough to gain a view of the towering male behind her. Her eyes drifted over him, examining his being. There was no way he was here to train her. Her hazel hued oculars narrowed at the male as she spoke, her voice with a highly aggressive tone.

"What do you want?"

The woman turned around and asked what Jaxton wanted in an aggressive tone. Jaxton smiled. She had some fire in her. He hoped he could put that fire in the right direction

"Well, what I need is to train a padawan. What I want is for that padawan to be you." Jaxton said, keeping a calm tone. "I've only been knighted for a short while, so I'll understand if you want somebody else, but I'd really like to train you. You've got some spirit and some initiative and I'd like to help direct it and see where it goes."

Rebellious Vanguard
Ventasia scoffed as the male spoke, her eyes never drifting from his frame for a second. This one was a Knight? A Jedi? Somethign was off. He looked more homely to her than he did poerful. Honestly, she wasn't the least bit intrigued by this one. Nothing about him stood out to her in the least. He was simply normal, at best. She was prepared to reject the offer with every fiber of her being before catching herself. This my have been her only chance. If he was sent to train her, and she turned him away, there was no guarantee that they would send another. This was no time for her attitude, but time for strategy. She'd have to play this with a cool head. At least, for the time being..

"Idoubt your worth my time, I'll give you a shot."

"A shot is all I ask." Jaxton said peacefully. He hoped the woman's aggressiveness would diminish with time, but he was fine with dealing for the time being. In fact, it sort of reminded him of his home Corellia. This woman would've been just fine there. Jaxton began to sense his comrad Knights and the masters from the meeting room begin to leave and go towards the padawans. This place would erupt in a couple of minutes.

"I don't know how far ahead you are in your training or anything like that, but you might be able to sense the other teachers coming. This place is going to be a zoo in a second." Jaxton said as he examined the myriad of excited padawans-to-be around him. "Why don't we find a more quiet place to talk? We can go to one fo the training rooms, the cafeteria, I could take us to a restaurant if you don't like the cafeteria, wherever you'd like to go." Jaxton said.

Rebellious Vanguard
Ventasia could feel something. She wasn't sure exactly what it was, but she had a feeling. Whether or not this feeling was gained from the approaching group of Jedi, she couldn't tell. Regardless, she had gotten what she came here for. There was no need to stay and be caught up in the melee. An escape was needed, and this was the quickest one. She pivoted off her foot, performing a quarter turn as her eyes remained locked on his frame.

"Lead the way then. I have no interest in being surrounded by these peasants."

Jaxton Ravos

Mindwalker of the Outer Rim
Peasants? Jaxton thought to himself. These were supposed to be her comrads. In time one of these padawans might be called on to save her, or she might be called on to save one of them. The arrogance of this woman troubled him. He would have to teach her to be more empathetic.

“We’re gonna go hit a restaurant. I’ll pay, so get whatever you want.” Jaxton said as he marched on, gently pushing his way through the hive of padawans around him, until he reached the speeder docking bay of the Jedi Temple. Jaxton opened the door for the young woman, then climbed into the driver’s seat and took off.

“So we were never really properly introduced. I’m Jaxton, but you can call me Knight Ravos if you’re feeling formal.” He said to the young woman, but didn’t expect it to be a problem. “So where did you call home before you came into the Order?”

Rebellious Vanguard
Ventasia's eyes followed Jaxton as he swerved through the group of potential trainees. She followed a few feet behind him, roughly shoving past anyone in her way while ensuring she kept her own footing. Not a single sign of care was shown for those around that she had referred to as peasants. As Jaxton's words of their destination reached her ears, she scoffed. "Don't get any strange ideas." The last thing Ventasia wanted was this male getting any sort of ideas at all.

As they reached the docking bay, she noticed the male opening the door for her. Ventasia simply shook her head, her eyes remaining locked onto Jaxton's figure as she took her seat within the speeder. As soon as he was within the vehicle, it sped off without warning. Just moments later, she could hear him telling her of himself. Once again, the word Knight crossed his lips, but regardless of what he said, Ventasia still had a difficult time believing he was truly a Knight, let alone a Jedi.

"So, it's proper introduction you want? Fine. Terana, Ventasia Terana. I'm from Corellia, and believe me, there's nothing formal coming in your direction."

Jaxton Ravos

Mindwalker of the Outer Rim
Strange ideas? Jaxton was taking her to lunch. Then again it was just her and him. And she was technically in his age range. Jaxton felt slightly bad as to how his offer might have appeared, but she would see soon enough he was just trying to be nice. He hoped. Ventasia Terana was her name, and she was from Corellia. That made a lot of sense. She just had a Corellian air about her.

“If you’re Corellian I know just the place to go.” Jaxton said as he drove his speeder down to the lower levels, heading to a Corellian-owned restaurant that reminded him of home. If she enjoyed Corellian food, she would love it here. It was nothing but authentic Corellian food. He always got the best when he went there too, on account of the owner being a huge Corellia Rogues fan. He was hoping he hadn’t of kept that poster up. Wait, if she’s from Corellia she must not be a Rogues fan or must have not been home in a while.

“So how long has it been since you left Corellia for the Jedi Order Ventasia?” Jaxton said as he parked the speeder.

Rebellious Vanguard
Ventasia glared off into the distance as the speeder cruised through the skies. Jaxton's words were more or less going in one ear and out the other. The flame-haired vixen had her own agenda, and playing nice most certainly wasn't on her mind. Her jade-hued iris' panned forward, noticing a small building as the speeder began to make it's approach. It took her a moment, but she realized it was a small restaurant. Her head shook and eyes rolled as the small vehicle came to an abrupt stop, making a soft landing on the pad.

More words flew through ears, though this time, she heard them loud and clear. "Six weeks. Why does it matter?" More questions? This was beginning to irritate the young woman. She didn't care if he wanted to get to know her, and she certainly had no intention of getting to know him. She wanted to learn to manipulate the force. She wanted to learn the ways of the Jedi, and no amount of useless babble between the two would bring her any closer to that goal.

She leaped from the speeder, dusting herself off slightly once her feet made contact with the ground. Though as they did, something caught her ire. Under her foot was a blaster, resting on the ground below her. She glanced down at before shifting her eyes in Jaxton's general direction, and back to the weapon below her. With a swiftness, she knelt down, taking the pistol within her hand. Her eyes examined the small weapon within her hands as she mumbled quietly to herself. "Such an old model. Better than nothing I suppose.." As quickly as she had grabbed it, Ventasia tossed the blaster into speeder, it landing on the floor of the passenger seat. Once it was safely inside the vehicle, she stepped off, headed towards the buildings main door.

Six weeks, why does it matter?" The young woman questioned, hostility still in her tone. The young woman didn't seem to want to do anything about pleasantries or etiquette. She didn't seem to want to know anything about him, nor want him to know anything about her. He didn't understand why she was being so isolational.

"Must have not been a big Rogues fan." He said, thinking of his last season with the Rogues. Then he saw the woman pick up an old blaster off of the ground and place it in his speeder, saying it was better than not having one. He supposed that was true, but this also concerned him. Why pick a blaster when you were about to begin lightsaber training?

Jaxton shrugged it off and went inside the restaurant. He would figure out more about the woman's life later. The owner got Jaxton seating rather quickly, as he usually did, and Jaxton and Ventasia sat down as waiters came to take their orders.

"So, we'll start the real training tomorrow. Before we do that however, I'd like to know that you know what you're signing up for. So, in your opinion, what is a Jedi?"

Rebellious Vanguard
Within the restaurant, Jaxton and Ventasia took their seats, Ventasia's eyes keeping accountability of all those around her. She wasn't very much a fan of surprises. She much preferred to know what was going to happen and when. Though, within this galaxy, that usually wasn't the case.

She scoffed, turning her nose up at whatever waiter attempted to gain her attention as Jaxton continued to question her.

"What's a Jedi? Aren't you supposed to be one of them? One of these 'keepers of peace' within the galaxy?" The annoyance within her voice was emitted as the words flew from her tongue. Why was she still being questioned? What was the point in this? Ventasia, evidenced by the expression upon her face, was reaching her breaking point. "I thought you were supposed to be training me. What's the point of asking me all these questions? Why are we even here?" Her eyes narrowed at Jaxton as she leaned across the table, her tone low and full of contempt. "I'm tired of being bombarded with questions. Now it's time to give me answers. And I want them now."

Jaxton took a few mental notes as the woman questioned whether or not he was a Jedi, whether or not he was training, why he was asking questions, and why she was here. She had quite a bit of passion, but also quite a bit of impatience. He wasn't sure if she was just unaware her training had already begun, or scarier yet, thought that philosophy was secondary to everything else.

"The usual" Jaxton said to a waiter who had just interjected himself into their conversation. He waited for Ventasia to take her order, while he brought his thoughts together. This one would take some convincing.

"I am a Jedi, and I am to train you." He began, knowing that the words probably wouldn't validate himself in her eyes, but it helped none the less. "But being trained in the Force is only part of being a Jedi. Otherwise we could call the Zeison Sha, Dathomiri Witches, and Sith all Jedi, when they aren't. Being a Jedi is being a Force-User with a certain philosophy. The point," Jaxton said, using one of Ventasia's terms. "Is for me to figure out what you already know about being a Jedi in the philosophical regard, so I can figure out what all I need to teach you." Jaxton stated, then took a sip of the drink the waiter had just poured him.

"As for your other questions, I'd be happy to answer any other questions you might have for me."

Rebellious Vanguard
A heavy sigh escaped Ventasia's lips as she once again leaned back in her seat. She didn't want food, nor to partake of drink. Ventasia eyes rolled as she rose to her feet, leaning over the table once more. "I'm here to be trained, and nothing else. So why don't you quit wasting my time, and lets get started." She left the the table and stormed from the restaurant, heading toward the speeder they had both arrived in. She had no intention of sharing a meal of anything else with Jaxton. She simply wanted what she had came for.

As she arrived at their speeder, she would reach into the bag she had been carrying on her back, pulling a holster attached to belt from its contents. She strapped it around her hips, connecting it in front before reaching back into the speeder once more to take hold of the weapon she had previously found. Her eyes examined it once more before shoving it into the holster now resting on her right hip. With this she paced to the front of the vehicle, leaning back against its hood as her her arms crossed over her chest. She fully expected him to come after her, and if she was right, he would soon enough.

Jaxton waited for his food to be served, and then began eating it. His speeder was auto-print locked, and protected by security that stopped the average slicer on the streets from being able to get into it. His security system wouldn’t stop military grade hackers, but it had stopped anything Corellia threw at him. Then again, this girl was Corellian, she might know how to slice a vehicle, and even if she couldn’t get into his, she might be able to get into somebody else’s speeder. Jaxton picked up the rest of his food and scarfed it down, then walked out of the restraint, leaving his credits and a sizeable tip on the table. He walked outside to thankfully see her still there. He handed her a datapad as he opened the door to his speeder. “Be at this location at 0800 tomorrow.” He said. If she wants to skip all the pleasantries she can do it Jaxton thought to himself as he drove the speeder back to the temple and dropped her off. He would see her in the morning.

Rebellious Vanguard
A miniscule grin formed across her face as Jaxton exited the restaurant. Just as she had anticipated, he hadn't trusted her enough to simply let her wander from his sight. The tiny smile quickly dissipated from her lips as he approached. As he strolled past her, he pulled a datapad, handing it to her. Curling it within in her finger, she took hold of the device, eyeing it slightly before button-hooking to her side of the speeder and entering. It seemed if the male had finally given up on his pleasant attitude. As they landed near the temple, she leaped from the speeder. Jaxton told her to meet him at the location on the datapad tomorrow. As she sauntered off, she could be heard muttering aloud. "Well, there's a few hours of my life I'll never get back."

Jaxton meditated inside a training room in the Coruscant Temple, waiting for Ventasia to arrive. It was completely empty, aside from a lone training droid in the corner, although it was currently deactivated and wouldn't activate without his approval. As this was in a guarded part of the Jedi Temple she would have been unable to take a blaster, which was good. There were too many distractions yesterday. Jaxton planned on eliminating them today. Ventasia was not an easy student, but Jaxton was determined to teach her.

Jaxton sensed her presence at the edge of the room, despite the silent Jedi Temple doors not making a sound. Not yet opening his eyes to leave his state of meditation he spoke to the girl. "Are you ready to learn today?"

Rebellious Vanguard
A heavy sigh escaped Ventasia's lips as she approached the door to the training room. Her blaster had been confiscated for security purposes on her way in. Considering how tight security had been, there was obviously no guarantee that she would get it back. Though that was fine, as it certainly wasn't the only one she had 'in stock'. Her arms crossed over her chest as she paced down the hall, her mind wandered a bit. Here she was, on Coruscant, about to begin her training and her mind continually thought of her home. Especially her mother, whom she had left in a very pitiful state. She simply shook the thoughts from her mind as she stepped toward the door, it sliding open immediately. Before the door could even open all the way, she heard Jaxton's voice reach her ears.

"I was ready when I got here weeks ago. Don't patronize me." Ventasia scoffed heavily as her hazel eyes came to rest on the male who had, once again. drawn her ire.

Jaxton signed internally. The answer was a problem of Jaxton's, he should have asked if she was ready to listen, not to learn. The young ones almost always think they're ready, that or they never think they'll be ready. He had so much to learn as a teacher . . . he still wondered why the Grandmaster thought him ready for promotion. Jaxton felt at times like he was little more than a combatant in terms of being a Jedi.

"We have this room for the next 6 hours. If you're quick, we should be should be nearly halfway done with saber training by then." Jaxton said as he held up a training saber. "But, first comes first." Jaxton said then returned the training saber to his belt.

"I'll not teach you any saber or Force training unless I can trust you to use it properly. So we'll begin where we left off yesterday. What is the job of a Jedi, and why do we do it?"
