A Forgotten Past

Etheriud strutted behind the others into the compound, watching them all spread out into their different sections of the base. He too began to wander, his curiosity piqued and his mind wandering. Etheriud stopped as he encountered a room that appeared to be used for alchemy, forging, and rituals. Books were strewn across the facility, each written in basic and an odd language that intrigued Etheriud. He picked up as many books as he could, some reading "Ancient Sith Alchemy", some reading "The Rites of the Sith" and then some being written in an odd alphabet and language that seemed to just barely elude Etheriud. He carried the books as he began walking back towards the entrance.

This language... I know it.. Maybe one of them will know it.

The thought continued to linger in Etheriud's mind as he approached the entrance, noticing Xhinx standing at the entrance. He approached Xhinx and heard him speak, nodding as he heard about the treasures within.

"Indeed, I feel we should investigate further. Who knows what we will find in here?"

Xaryus quietly picked threw the, what seemed like, millions of rooms, it all seemed blank and dreary. However something did catch his attention. It was a door, slightly ajar, Xaryus quietly padded to the door and held his breath. He could sense dark aura and it was big, he reached for his saber hilt and pondered if he should enter "If it doesn't show itself, i'll come for it.." He whispered to himself as he detached the saber hilt from his belt and held it, his thumb on the ignite switch. He crept towards the door and switched his saber on, it hissed and buzzed, he opened the door and saw a figure standing in the room, It was Korogum. "What a lovely surprise.." said Xaryus in a melancholy almost sarcastic tone.

Korogum had been walking for a solid half hour and had still not found the main entryway into the compound again. Convinced now that he was lost, he stopped in a large ornate room filled with statues of robed figures and pyres within long metal tubes protruding from the walls. Korogum recalled when he was able to sense the presences of the others, and wondering to himself. "Maybe I could find them again if I concentrate on their energy." He muttered aloud, as he closed his eyes and tried his best to clear his mind and let his surroundings become forgotten. As he continued to search for the presences, he could feel his own powers reaching out throughout his immediate area, permeating the solid stone and durasteel of the compounds walls and floors. No sooner did he realize this did he hear a noise come from behind him, and he opened his eyes again and turned around to see the one who called himself Xaryus standing in the doorway with his weapon drawn. Korogum payed no mind to his indifferent tone and instead asked the Zabrak,

"Do you know where the others are? I have been searching around this place for too long."

While he spoke, he moved forward to the Zabrak with his cloak flowing behind him.

Xaryus extinguished his lightsaber with a flourish and set the hilt at his side. "I haven't seen them either."
He said as he relaxed.
"If you're done here, Korogum, let us search."
He pulled his hood over his head and slowly left the room, Korogum in his wake.
Ethuriud and Xhinx's rendevouz was long over do..

As Korogum walked behind the hooded Zabrak, he decided that a good talk would pass the time as they traversed the halls of the compound.

"I have spoken with Etheriud and Xhinx, but not yourself Xaryus, was it? What is your story? What has brought you here to Alzoc under the wing of that dark one, Xhinx."

Korogum walked up next to the Zabrak as he began his questioning, and noticed a commons room on his right as the two passed it by. Looking back to the hooded figure, he decided to wait for an answer.

Xaryus exhailed and started to speak. "I was first trained as a child by a small cult of sith reborns on Yavin V, I snuck away and decided to follow a dark force I felt was present here, once i arrived on this world i met Xhinx and later you two. That's my story "
He finished his story with a content sigh as he kelt walking with Korogum in his wake.
"Do you sense them?" He said said, the question was ment to be rhetorical of course he could sense them, a sarlacc two star systems iver could sense their aura.

Korogum listened to Xaryus' story intently, but he was confused by the word he used to describe the cult he was trained by. He also noticed the way he asked about sensing Etheriud and Xhinx.

"Yes, I can sense them, but I also sense others, outside the compound. They are nothing like the three of you though, they feel faint, weak even. Also, what are Sith?" He asked the Zabrak.

As he asked his question, the two turned a corner to see Etheriud and Xhinx standing with their backs to the two of them.

"Looks like we found them." Korogum stated in a matter-of-fact tone.

As Xhinx finished conversing with Etheriud, he stopped for a moment vaguely hearing the others conversation as they neared the room Xhinx was in. "Sith are followers of the Dark Side, I am sure you know of the Dark Side." Xhinx reached around his belt and handed Korogum a deep crimson holocron. "Study this, it contains what it means to be Sith and how they work. This holocron was created by a well known Sith"

Xhinx waited for the ominous figure to finish and await a response. "I have left the Sith in search for something more. Something fruitful."

Korogum took the object in his hand and studied it's appearance: the pyrmidal object hummed with an aura of a very unsettling nature, one Korogum could not quite place. Yet still, he felt a familiarity with its sensation, as if he had felt it before. Korogum realized he had in fact felt this forboding aura before, less then an hour ago when he was browsing the large collection of information in the depths of the compound. He remembered that he had felt the very same sense of imposing knowledge from the scrolls and books in the rooms he had explored. The object emanated an ominous red glowing mistlike substance that Korogum could not feel, and he questioned if it even existed at all, or if it was just an effect the device has on the mind. Looking up from the object that Xhinx had called a Holocron, Korogum had only heard of the 'Dark Side' from the cultists banter that he had overheard, and as such, did not mention it for fear of being cast away from the group of dark beings.

"I will go study this, I will return when I am finished." Korogum declared as he turned from the tall figure and began to stride down the hallway to the commons room he had passed with the Zabrakian prior to reuniting with Etheriud and Xhinx again.

Sitting down in the center of the room, Korogum placed the object in front of him on a small pedestal so it was level with his waist. It was now that Korogum realized he had no knowledge of how to activate the device, and he cursed hindsight as he did not want to appear foolish to the others by asking. Korogum picked up the device and studied it further, looking for a button or switch of some kind that might activate, thinking it was like a communicator that he had owned as a child. After not finding any such thing, Korogum resorted to shaking the object in an effort to discover something. Dropping his head in a sigh, he placed the object back down on its pedestal and stared at it, placing a sliver of hope in the thought that it may reveal its secrets to him. After this did not work, Korogum decided to retrace his steps of the past few days in the hopes of finding the key to this puzzle. Korogum then had a thought, "Xhinx said this thing was of 'Sith' origin, and he said he was once a Sith. The Xaryus and Etheriud both have very similar auras to Xhinxs', meaning they must be Sith too. And since I have similar energy to all three, perhaps that means I am a Sith by extension. Maybe if I focus my energy into this device, it might activate!" Korogum became visibly joyous when he had this thought, placing all of his hope in this being the answer. Korogum then closed his eyes and focused on the humming of the object, feeling its aura seeping into the air around it. He could feel the others in the hallway, and he deemed that he was not focused enough, and strained himself to clear all other thoughts from his mind. Minutes later, Korogum had blocked out all other things from his mind, leaving only himself and the Holocron in his mental surroundings. To him, there was nothing around him but a blackness, with himself and the object floating separately. Korogum willed his mental self to move towards the object, managing to drift slowly towards it like a ghoul in a nightmare. Reaching the object, Korogum willed himself to lift reach his hands out and place them on the Holocron. Grasping it firmly, he willed himself to lift the object from its place in the empty blackness. Korogum immediately sensed something within the Holocron, a feeling of surrender, as if he had broken its defiance. Opening his eyes, Korogum was greeted by the Holocron floating in the air, as if it was weightless! The Holocron began to make small whirring noises and Korogum saw the top of the pyramid shaped object open up like a capsule. From it came the hologram of a being in a full robe, his face hidden from sight, who began to speak in a raspy voice, that Korogum could feel hid a great power behind it. Korogum listened intently to the figure for the remainder of its recording, and once it was finished and the Holocron had once more closed itself to the world around it, the humming ceased and the object remained in the air silently. Korogum then realized he had been clenching up most of his body, relieving this, the Holocron feel from the air and landed on the pedestal with a loud cracking sound, like a heavy flat surface landing on a motionless one. Korogum then pondered everything the figure had said, things about Emotion, Peace, and the Dark Side. The one thing that had stood out the most to Korogum was the formost subject, Emotion. Korogum mulled over everything about Hatred, Fear, Rage, Temptation, Destruction. These things seemed barbaric to him, like the Sith were never meant to control their power, only to loose it upon others. Korogum began thinking of what things could be like for such powerful beings if they simply controlled their emotions, and he revelled in the kind of power that could come of this. Korogum decided to bring it up to the others and see if they would agree with him, and so he stood up and left the commons room with the Holocron in hand.

Walking back down the hallway to the trio, Korogum thought of how he would be recieved with his idea, and hoped they would see reason.

Etheriud had always rejected the ideas of the Sith. He didn’t seek the destruction of purity, nor did he seek the enslavement of lesser beings. He only sought knowledge and furthering his abilities. When Xhinx began to discuss the topic of the Sith, Etheriud shut his mind and began thinking about the other recent events that had occurred. Such as the books he had found with the faintly familiar script. A few years back, Etheriud had taken a linguistics course which covered ancient scripts. In this course, a script with similar characters had been covered and shown. The name however eluded Etheriud. As he came back to his senses, he saw that Korogum had already departed, leaving Etheriud with the Zabrak and Xhinx. Etheriud broke the silence with a question.

“Xhinx, you seem knowledgeable of the Sith. Do you – or Xaryus – know anything about the script on this book?”

Etheriud pulled out the book that contained the script. The binding was old, worn, and faded. The characters were permanent and almost seemed to glow however. The hooked letters and cursive form of the script intimidated Etheriud, its very essence causing him to wish he had never found this book. Etheriud also pulled out a few of the other books he had found that contained bits of the script and language spread throughout the pages.

“Also, do you know anything about the language on these pages? I theorize the script might be the true way to write the language, and the standardized version seen here is an attempt by one who was unable to learn the script to put his thoughts to paper. Does this have any connection with the Sith or the Dark Side?”

(REVIVAL OF A DEAD THREAD BECAUSE WHY THE HELL NOT. It wouldn't make sense to make a new thread after the progress that has been made. Plus, this is for faction development. dontkillmepls)

Xaryus looked at the pages skimming the strange letters, a look of boredom on his rough, emotionless face.
"This is an ancient form of the Tsis language..the language of the Sith.." He said in a melancholy tone, "It's basic Sith, though.."
He trailed off
"I haven't seen anything like this before" he said as he traced the letters with his fingertip.

Xhinx walked over to Etheriud, skimming the pages of the ancient text. "There were trainings here, rituals even." Xhinx closed it and breifly read other fallen apart books. "It seems this place still has use. We can salvage what is left here, learn from them, and even restore this place." Xhinx said, looking at the others.

"Perhaps we can begin a quest. The contents in these books are flawed, both historical, and combat training books. We should seek to restore these, make the compound operational again. And hopefully spread our knowledge onto others, those who are worthy. We may need to recruit potential members, or live in solitude."

Korogum stepped up to the three beings he had come to know as allies, and listened into the conversation they were having about a few books and the language derived from them. Speaking up to get their attention, Korogum informed them of his meditation and the result of such,

"I have discovered how to access this Holocron, and I went over its contents, but I find them to be somewhat, distasteful."
He paused shortly prior to uttering the last word. Continuing, he explained,

"I understand the path that these 'Sith' take, but it does not seem effective. Where is the point in simply killing everything in your way, and creating a false reality of your own mindset? Isn't knowledge the superior choice when faced with the possibility of ignorance? I just don't see the gain from it. I do not know what you three think of it, but if it were up to me, I'd change things to be better suited for those who seek true power, the power of knowledge."

Xaryus’ words opened the block that Etheriud had been trying to break open, his memory resurfacing the lectures and lessons on the ancient Sith language and its script. Kittât is what the script was called by the ancient Sith lords who wrote it. Etheriud was intrigued by the knowledge of the resurfacing of this language, seeing as the lessons he had received were simply discussions and speculations on its meanings and origins. The possibility of being able to decipher and learn this mysterious language excited Etheriud and gave him a sense of hope for the future. Etheriud listened intently as Xhinx spoke, agreeing with his points. Here, they could make a new home. Free of persecution and corruption. Of course, there were powerful empires that surrounded them, but they would consider this tiny academy insignificant for now. At least, Etheriud hoped as much. The prospects of a new faction on the galactic scale excited Etheriud as well. Etheriud hadn’t really noticed Korogum approach, and was startled as he spoke. He listened and quickly responded to the points made.

“Truly, there is no point. The Sith, or at least those who try to truly follow its doctrine, are barbarians and foolish in their strife for power as they constantly collapse and recollect only to kill themselves off again once more. You and Xhinx are right in what you say, knowledge is the superior option, and that is what we should do. Make this our academy and begin creating an order. A new order that spreads the light of knowledge to the masses. However, I feel that we should stay true to this “Dark Side” and retain its teachings and usage, seeing as it is the most powerful and freeing of the abilities of the force. What did the holocron say on these matters?”

Etheriud looked quizzically at Korogum, his mind reeling from the thoughts of all the different possibilities that had arisen. Paths previously unthinkable opened themselves up. Etheriud finally began to believe that he meant something, and what he was doing would finally bring change to the galaxy.

Xhinx nodded his heavy, armored head. and went out to retrieve his ship, after returning to the compound with his ship, Xhinx began restoration of the old, decayed building, and starting speaking with the others. "We will need a leader, someone to guide us, someone 'of the prophecy.' We may speak of this later, but for now we must restore this building, and get it operational."

After many hours of work, the compound was now fit for duty. And ready for use. Xhinx looked back at the others. "I sense greatness in all of us. And I also sense something... unique, in Korogum. I nominate him as our leader. What say you all?"

Xaryus looked at Xhinx with a face of twisted surprise.
"We've barely known each other for less than a planetary rotation and you see fit that this 'experiment' lead us?"
Said the Zabrak in a low-sharp less than warm tone. "Honestly shouldn't we at least test him? Even the force can shroud one's true aura."
He said as he stared Korogum in the eye, the first time the Zabrak ever really showing any real interest.
"Every hero has his trials.." he said with a smirk.

Korogum stared coldly at the red-skinned man, his gaze piercing through his mask and into the eyes of the being. The mere reminder of the events of the past few days was enough to irritate Korogum, and he could feel his own blood boiling with bitter resentment over the insult. Korogum did not comprehend just how much of that resentment was actually laced into his gaze and only realized it after the area around his eyes began to burn, and he felt the area in front of him was also strangely heated as well. Ignoring it, he retorted to the Zabrak's instigation,

"What kind of trial do you propose then?"

Etheriud watched as Korogum’s expression and body language changed to that of one who was becoming enraged, his presence becoming more profound as the dark side flowed throughout the area. Etheriud knew he had to act quickly in order to stop a conflict already arising. Etheriud did agree however, Korogum should have to prove himself in order to win Etheriud’s trust and faith in his leadership. Etheriud began to quickly think of a proper “trial” to test Korogum’s capabilities. Etheriud quickly spoke after Korogum asked his question.

“I propose we first dictate the tenets and structure of our order and get everything here neat and sorted. We must train and ready ourselves so that we can present ourselves as masters rather than acolytes. After we have done these things do I propose we begin your trials. I was thinking these trials consist of the following: Duels, Knowledge, Problem Solving, Leadership, and finally survival of a ritual of some odd ancient Sithy nature. Does this sound reasonable?”

Etheriud looked towards Korogum, his eyes attempting to pierce through that thick helmet that he always seemed to wear. Etheriud could see that he definitely had the intimidating looks of a leader, but did he have the skill and the charms? Etheriud began to wonder about how this new Order would look… Or even how they would build something from scratch without stealing the tenets and ideals from the Jedi or Sith.

"Then it is settled. Xhinx agreed. I can see to the training of Korogum, of all of you. To a point. After that you will need to train yourselves. Or together." Xhinx offered passage to the others in his ship. "You all may stay here, I will head elsewhere, follow if you wish. I shall return briefly." Xhinx announced preparing to travel to his home world, Knojur.

Korogum looked at each of the individuals one at a time, meeting their gazes in turn. Pondering the idea of being tested by these three, he dropped his gaze to the ground in thought to himself.

"I wouldn't mind a test from Etheriud or Xhinx, they seem to know what they are doing, but this Xaryus hasn't shown much of what he can do, at least not around me. I will have to trust that he also knows enough to go along with Etheriud's offer. None of this will help my pride any, being judged by beings I've only recently met, but I'll need to do this if I wish for their support."

Looking back to Etheriud, Korogum claimed he would gladly demonstrate his abilities in a set of trials. What he did not mention was the fact that he had still not actually learned to control them, but he hoped this could act as a sort of Trial by fire nonetheless.
