The 8th Noble
"The stars, child." A familiar voice rang in her ears. "They have come to a stop."
A warm desert's breeze brushed against her skin, carrying an all too familiar smell with it. Her hands unknowingly dug themselves into the ground and pulled themselves out to be bathed yet again in the old familiar dust and grime of home.
"What does it mean?" Colette asked, her voice a lot softer — no, younger — than she seemed to remember. "Is it a good thing?"
"Yes." The Elder said and smiled at her. "It means that the galaxy's rebirth is at its end."
Colette felt confused, her eyes squinted and her brows sunk as she looked at the Elder. "But… I thought it always got rebirthed. You said that nothing lives forever and that…"
The Elder laughed for a moment.
"Oh I know what I said, child." She exhaled with a smile. "This is just… The new nature of things."
"The new nature of things?" Colette asked and got increasingly confused. "What do you mean?"
"We're never in control of nature, child." The Elder explained and looked up at the stars and extended her arms to point out a few stars. "These are not the same stars that I grew up under, but they will be the only stars that coming generations will know."
"That's kind of sad…" Colette frowned and poked at the sand.
"No, child. It is wonderful news." The Elder tried to explain yet again. "It means that despite its age, the galaxy is still going through changes. It means that our people are still part of it whether we want to or not."
"That doesn't make any sense." Colette said and shook her head.
"It will when you wake up." The Elder teased and flicked her finger against the kid's head.
"Huh-"
The temperature switched in an instant. Colette rose from her bed with a gasp, sweat pouring down her skin as she wrestled herself out of her bed and began to look around. It was all there. Her desk, bed, pretty little rug, and Nibbles. The cat jumped into her arms and softly purred as she petted him for comfort and to calm herself down.
What was that? A vision, or a dream, or something else? The kid sat down on the edge of her bed and let out a soft sigh and collapsed back onto her pillow again. This wasn't the first time she had been granted strange dreams, and it most likely wouldn't be the last. The gentle purr of her feline companion lulled her back to sleep, and this time without reminders of her lost home.
