A Hero and a Villian

The droid was impressive! A weapon in the hands of the Sith would ultimately solidify them as the rulers of the galaxy, conquering world after world and destroying the Republic and Jedi once and for all. However, she was no fool. A weapon of this magnitude would eventually destroy the Sith as well, for infighting would occur among them just to have the right to turn it against rivals and potential rivals. It needed to be destroyed but the Jedi's idea was grand. They needed to find out who created it and follow it back to its source. She shuddered at the thought of hundred, thousands, maybe even millions of these mechanical terrors running rampant in the galaxy.

"I think we should find a way to deactivate it and collect the data," she said resurrecting her weapon back into action, "but if it proves more profitable to destroy it, then we destroy it." She batted a couple of blaster shots from the droid when it turned its focus on them. But how would they get close enough? The droid seemed to know when one of the thugs or security forces were about to fire on it, moving either out of the path of fire or simply unleashing its blaster before they could squeeze off a shot. For a droid, its reflexes were amazing. It was almost as if the droid was using the Force itself, as if it had some sort of precognition.

Sidestepping a laser shot, she moved behind a durasteel crate and reached out through the Force. Her eyes went wide with surprise when she felt the signature of the Force inside the massive droid. With a smirk on her face. she yelled over the noise to the Jedi, "Answer me this Jedi. What would you call something that can manipulate the Force, see potential future events, and mask its presence as well." The Jedi looked at her and Darth Venefica nodded her head in the direction of the droid.

Sera looked to the droid, and back to Venefica, her voice slightly irritated by the fact that this droid had some type of sentient connection to the Force. She responded in a dull, irritated tone, "A threat. To everyone. And everything." The Padawan watched it closely as it moved, firing shot after shot at anything organic in the room. Cutting down person after person until there were no longer anyone left standing with the sole exceptions being the Jedi and Sith.

As it turned and began opening fire once again Sera activated both of her sabers. "One of us has to distract it. That's the only way we will be able to get close enough. If I run a distraction, can you sever it's limbs quick enough? As in, before it shoots me? If we keep the databank safe, we can find out who constructed this abomination and have them stopped."

[member="Darth Venefica"]

"If I allow it to shoot you, then it will rob me of everything I have planned for you," she said with a wink. "Later of course. Business first." Grabbing one of the corpses via the Force, she hurled it at the droid long enough to distract it giving the Jedi enough time to put whatever plan of distracting it to use. The droid's head whipped around and fired a session of shots that practically vaporized the corpse. Better her than me Darth Venefica thought as the Jedi moved to cause a distraction.

Darth Venefica observed the situation, calculating the best way for her to get to those limbs. There wasn't many flaws in the droids movements and none were visible to the Sith. If the Jedi was willing to do what was needed to protect the galaxy, then she will do what was must as well. She reignited her blade, called on the Force, and readied herself to spring into action.

Sera scoffed at Venefica. "Oh that's right, how silly of me. It would just kill you if someone else got the glory of my death. So very heartwarming." She clapped the Sith on the shoulder and nodded towards the Droid O' Death. "I guess you'd better hope I am as swift as the great Darth Xhexania, else you'll be twice disappointed today." She hadn't actually known of her knighthood, so the term was more of an ignorant statement than it was an insult to her Darth name.

Leaping forward and over the pile of scrap they were concealed by, Sera caught the attention of the droid after it was finished desecrating the corpse of one of the fallen. Performing a sideways flip behind a pillar, the droid opened fire with a fully automatic blaster. How precious. She turned from the pillar as it reloaded the first of its rounds. This ought to get its' attention. With a quick draw from the force, she lifted a desk within the room with her mind's will, and hurled it across toward the Droid. The desk splintered into two separate pieces as it caught on the hulking metal mass, opening fire once again. Sera proceeded to deflect and swat away the volley of the rounds.

Moments after, it changed its' tactic. A small compartment opened on the droid's left side. The arm reached down revealing a small, cylindrical weapon. It pressed a button, and a green beam erupted from the weapon's hilt. "What?" She paused. Dumbfounded. How does this droid have a lightsaber? "Whatever you are planning on doing, soon would be a good time to do it!" She shouted toward Venefica. Lifting up several more desks Sera hurled them at the droid as it began to approach her slowly, hacking away at the desks as they came towards it. She wasn't sure if the droid had any legitimate training, or if someone thought it a good idea to simply give it one with some pre-programmed tactics. Either way, she wasn't interested in finding out.

With the Jedi now having the full attention of the droid, Darth Venefica sprang toward it using the Force to increase her speed and close the distance quickly. The duo only had one shot at this and if one of them fell now, then the other surely would as well; leaving this planet and the galaxy at the mercy of the mechanical terror. And if there was more than one of these out there, then the galaxy would be engulfed in darkness. The Sith had moved into striking distance when the thing produced a lightsaber. But she would not be deterred and attack.

The droid no doubt was physically stronger than her but she had agility and cunning on her side. Just as if she was facing a Jedi or another Sith, she fell into her Makashi form. Halting its fire, it moved to confront the Sith and with three massive sweeps drove her back forcing to parry one and dodge the other two. With a snarl, she pressed her attack, unaware of what the Jedi was doing, and danced and twirled until she managed to sever one of its limbs. Her brief victory was cut short when she felt herself lifted up and hurled into a wall, knocking the breath from her; her lisghtsaber shutting off and rolling away.

The king of the machines raised its blade up and brought it down meeting the Knight's blade, who had managed to recover and call her weapon to her hand. Knees bent and her body slowly being pushed down, the droid was using its weight to force her down. With both hands on her weapon and her mind on avoiding death, she found herself in trouble.

By the time she turned again to face the Droid after hurtling a number of desks and smaller objects through the air at the massive moving pile of metal, she noticed that it had changed targets, and had managed to have the Sith in a saber lock, to which she was losing. Then again, how could one win a saber lock with sheer strength while both on the ground and also fighting a walking tank. There wasn't much time to act. The droid had found a target, and it was going to eliminate that target no matter what. She could try and lift it like she had the desks, but that wouldn't likely resolve the issues before the droid carved the human into two pieces.

She dashed towards the droid with the assistance of Force Speed, leaping into the air towards to give herself added momentum to her twin blades as she brought them down upon the metallic warrior. Somehow it knew she was coming. Certainly not by sight, but likely through its perception of the Force. It immediately lifted it's blade from Venefica and parried both of her sabers with relative ease. It then relayed audible orders to itself.

"Republic Jedi identified...Beep...Commence annihilation...Beep."

From within another compartment a second lightsaber was revealed. The droid was now wielding a green and red lightsaber. Sera was beginning to get nervous that this thing wasn't simply pre-programmed with tactics, but actually, somehow, trained in lightsaber combat. She looked over at Venefica to see how she was doing as the droid began making heavy, wide slashes toward the Jedi. Sera ducked to avoid one, flipped backwards to dodge another, and summoned up a Force Barrier to protect herself from the third as she had backed herself against a pillar.

Her physical strength was waning while the droid's strength seemed to be infinite, as the Sith struggled to hold the lock buying time for the Jedi. Then without warning, the droid broke the lock turning its back on her. She would have attacked straight away but her body was sore from being tossed and her strength nearly depleted. She heard the droid speak, "Republic Jedi identified...Beep...Commence annihilation...Beep." She raised her head in time to see the droid produce a second lightsaber, one with a crimson blade, and unleashed powerful wide slashes at the Jedi.

The Jedi had positioned herself against a pillar, whether by her choice or not, while the hulking mechanical beast stalked her. Darth Venefica was hurting physically and her anger was overflowing. She screamed with rage, extended her right hand, and felt the tips of her fingers burn as a single purple and white energy erupted from them. The droid, hearing the screaming girl, turned toward her but caught the brunt of the Sith Lightning square in its chassis, causing it to falter momentarily. All the voices in her head added their screaming rage now, fueling her hatred of this thing further. Unaware her fingers had blackened and were smoldering, she reactivated her weapon and charged.

Every strike she took was blocked by the two sabers but the Sith continued the assault avoiding being saber locked again; while keeping the droid from taking the offensive. Feeling the Dark Side grant her strength with the likes she never felt before, she forced the droid backwards into the waiting lightsabers of the Jedi. For the first time since the encounter began, she felt fear inside the droid; and her haunting smile emerged.

[member="Seraphina Shel'tah"]

Holding the Force Barrier as the droid made strike after strike against her in an attempt to exterminate her, Sera heard a scream of pure hatred, and a hissing followed by a flash of bright purple and white light erupted from behind the droid. She could see the electricity surround the towering metallic being, which could surely mean only one thing, the Sith had produced an assault of force lightning in an attempt to fry the thing. Judging by the results, it appeared to be affective for a brief moment, but the barrage was halted and the droid continued onward.

Releasing herself from the confines of the barrier the Jedi reignited her lightsabers as the Sith was assaulting the machine from its flank. She charged forward, crossing her sabers in an 'X' shape to sever the machine at its abdomen, it leaned forward while it parried Venefica's attacks, before rotating its arm 180 degrees to make another parry against Sera, except she was too close already, and instead of parrying it simply clipped her in the front of her face as she made the attempted attack.

Stumbling backwards as she lost all focus of what was happening, she was forced to halt her attack for a few moments, leaving Venefica to cotninue the assault while she recomposed herself. She then closed her eyes, focusing solely on the droid, pouring her energy into her concentration as she made an attempt to lift the droid from the ground through telekinesis. The object was incredibly heavy, and would require her undivided attention to force the weight into a gravity defiant hold, so that Venefica could finish the job.

[member="Darth Venefica"]

She caught a glimpse of the Jedi being knocked back, but Darth Venefica was fully committed to defeating the droid. She kept up the assault, attacking left, then right, keeping the droids two blades from hitting her. The droid swung both blades at the same time, forcing her to duck then handspring backwards to draw the droid to follow her. The droid made one step then before her eyes saw the droid begin to levitate. At first the droid was pulling out another surprise from its arsenal when she noticed that it was the Jedi lifting the droid.

Confusion invaded the droid as its arms holding the blades began to swing uncontrollably. Darth Venefica lunged forward, avoiding the swinging blades, and cut off its left leg then swung the blade around her body and severed the right leg. Sparks began to spit out from the droid's lower region. Legless, the droid was at the mercy of the Jedi and Sith.

"Hold it a little longer and I'll take of its arms," she yelled toward the Jedi putting her faith in her rival. Carefully and methodically she severed both its arms, the droid no longer a threat. "Well done Jedi. Well done. The honour of cutting it open....is all yours."

Her eyes remained closed as she heard the sounds of the lightsaber cutting through metal, the limbs dropping to the floor one at a time, heavy and resonating as they collided with the hard surface beneath them. Hearing Venefica's voice that the task was complete, Sera gently placed the droid on the floor and released her hold on it. She exhaled quietly as she looked at the helpless monstrosity that had only moments ago nearly ended their lives. She retracted her lightsabers and placed them on her belt as she approached it, holding her hand up toward the Sith to stay her blade a moment.

"Hold. I want to see if it will speak to us. Perhaps it has the ability to converse."

She turned and faced the limbless droid, now unafraid of what it could do, given that it could no longer move, nor attack. She addressed it in a calm, and quiet tone, kneeling down before it.

"What was your purpose? Who built you? Why are you here? Are there more of you? Are you nothing more than a series of programmed tasks, or are you somehow sentient?" Sera was entirely puzzled at how it somehow wielded lightsabers with a deathly accuracy, and had its own Force signature. If this was somehow sentient, she could not justifiably end its life.

[member="Darth Venefica"]

While the Jedi spoke to the machine, Darth Venefica could sense its fear more clearly. It knew the concept of pain, as it was sending surges of it through the Force. It also knew the concept of death, for the fear it was exhibiting was apparent. She wondered what species it was before the transformation into a killing machine. What kind of life did it lead before being encased in metal? Was this forced upon it or did it volunteer willingly? The absent of the Dark and Light side brought more curiosity to the Sith Knight.

It possessed the Force and knew how to wield not one, but two lightsabers. Other than the ability to see the future, sort of, it never really attempted any other powers except telekinesis when it picked her up and threw her body against the wall. Was it hampered by its shell to fully command the Force or was its power limited before it became the droid?

"You referred to her as a Jedi, how did you know what she was? Do you know what I am? Were you a Jedi at one time...perhaps a Sith?" Darth Venefica looked over at the Jedi and shrugged when the droid refused to answer their questions. "It fears us...it understands us. I don't understand why it refuses to cooperate with us."

Frustrated, she threw her hands up and walked away to check the bodies of the dead. As she crouched to search one of the corpses, she heard a voice penetrate her mind. It wasn't one of the five that had claimed ownership over her mind, this voice was different, cold. But its words were being mixed with Basic and other languages she never heard before. Looking back at the droid, she said to the Jedi, "Its trying to communicate with me telepathically but its mixing different languages. I can make out what the thing is saying. I hate to admit it, but you are probably more versed in other language than me."

[member="Seraphina Shel'tah"]

The machine's silence confused her. It feared death, but for some reason it did not fear them. Perhaps some other entity far more imposing than both the Sith and the Jedi were awaiting, should the droid falter or fail whatever its objective were. "Perhaps we are not as terrifying as what awaits it if it speaks." She knelt down next to the machine, closing her eyes she placed her hand on its torso, focusing intently on it. Her mind slipped into a trance-like state while she attempted to communicate mentally with it.

The barriers of the droids mind were thrown up hurriedly, as if in anticipation of some type of attack. While the technique surely had uses as a mental barrage, she was not interested in harming it. She gently prodded against the being's mind. "This Sith claims you are attempting a telepathic connection. She does not understand the tongue in which you speak. I will not harm you. What is your purpose? How did you become what you are? And to what do you owe allegience, if any?"

The barriers in the creature's mind lowered, as it returned its own thoughts directly to the Jedi. "I am called RS-742. My objective is the extermination of this Galaxy's plague. The assassination of all Force-Sensitive sentient life. This war between your Jedi and Sith, and all those who claim neutrality between the two bring nothing but endless death to the civilizations of this galaxy, generation after generation. My kind has been dispatched to complete this task. I am but the first of many. More than you can imagine. There is nowhere to hide. Only death awaits those who abuse the true power of the Force. Consider me the messenger."

The droid powered down, refusing to allow Sera another moment to ask anything further, or to identify where it had come from. "We have a problem. A big problem." She relayed the pertinent information to Venefica as she sat next to the metallic creature, trying to come up with some way to locate where this thing had come from, why they are being sent to eliminate Sith and Jedi, and how it managed to wind up here, of all places. "We need to find the creator, and we need to find out how many of these things are wandering around the galaxy out there. This has to be stopped, or we may find ourselves on the edge of extermination."

Her right index began tapping gently on her lips as she listened to the Jedi. This was bad. But who or what could benefit from the destruction of both Orders? The Sith, she could understand. They were conquerors and in the eyes of most, evil. But the Jedi, they were the sworn protectors of the galaxy. Destroy them and you leave the galaxy open to a new era of darkness, brought on by the Sith; or some other faction vying for power. But this droid was proof that both Orders were targeted, and if the droid was the first of many to come, then they had to unravel the mystery.

"Is there anything more we can extract from this...thing?" If they were going to hunt down the creator of this droid, and possibly more, then they needed something to pointe them in the right direction. Then she saw something on the underbelly of the droid. "Hold on a moment." The Sith crouched down rubbing her hand across some carbon scorching that was half concealing some numbers. When the smudge was wiped away, she noticed what they were.

"Those numbers are a designation code. All factories throughout the galaxy are required to put theirs on everything before being exported off world. Those numbers..." She stopped for a moment thinking if that was right. But she knew it had to be. She had been there not to long ago. "Mustafar. This thing was created at Mustafar." Darth Venefica looked up at the Jedi. "How is this even possible that this has gone unoticed?"

At the beheast of Venefica, Sera prodded once again into the Droid's alien mind. Unfortunately it had now shielded its mind against further intrusion from the Jedi, refusing to acknowledge her. She could have attempted to force her way in maliciously, but chose not to. It had its reason, whatever it were, for not speaking. It was afraid, of what, she still didn't know, but it must be pretty terrible. She sighed, standing up and turning back to Venefica. "There's nothing more I can obtain from it."

She paused and waited for the Sith to take a closer look at the frame of the droid. "Interesting. I never knew that. I don't typically have much interaction with Droids or their manufacturing. That is good to know." She raised a brow as the human girl identified its origin as Mustafar. "Are you certain? Could it have been tampered with to appear as if it were being constructed there?" She shrugged, there wasn't much else to go on at this point, so it was better than nothing at all. "I suppose either way we need to check it out, what else have we got? Though, we're going to have company soon. I'm sure we're not going to be allowed to simply leave now that we've partially destroyed the place. I can try and talk our way out, but I don't know how open they are going to be to talking once they see what has happened here."

Darth Venefica thought about what the Jedi said about it being tampered with to show it came from Mustafar. Which was now leading her to believe that there was more to the people auctioning the weapon turned droid. The mystery was growing more and more by the minute. And the Jedi was right, with so much destruction here they wouldn't be able to just walk out. Also, the Jedi would have to do the talking, the Sith's diplomacy skills would be looked upon as aggressive negotiations at best.

"Perhaps we should talk to these people. Two questions are fluttering about our mind. First, where did they find this droid? The second, if they did find it offworld, how where they able to get by Imperial customs...and Republic customs?" She looked back at the factory code on the droid and it was possible more than ever that it could be a forgery. "Since the war began, Imperial ships have been targeting all vessels coming and going through their sectors. I would assume the Republic is doing the same. I'm starting to find myself convinced the factory is here...but where?"

It was time for them to get some real answers. "I think it would be best for this situation if you did the talking."

The destruction that had been brought about in this room was indescribable. Whatever was not completely smashed or blasted beyond recognition was singed and smoking as it slowly ashed its' way into soot. Sera looked around, placing a hand on her face as she shook her head. "Well. this is going to get interesting. Anyone who comes down here is going to know why they're here, and when they see that...thing, dismembered, there is going to be problems." Carefully scooping up the pair of lightsabers that laid about the floor of the droid she tucket them into her belt for safe keeping. "We don't need any of them getting their hands on these. Lightsabers already are all over the black market."

There were footsteps coming down the corridor. A lot of footsteps. "They're coming. We need a plan. The only way I can see us escaping is if we play it off like the Sith are here to steal it. Kneel down as if I've defeated you, and keep your lightsaber out of sight. I will tell them that you've brought reinforcements and that we need to get to the factory as soon as possible to stop the theft. This will insinuate that the factory is here, which, our only hope is that it is, and they will lead us to it. What do you think?"

She listened as the sound was growing nearer, they would have to make their decision soon.

The Sith Knight's head whipped around to stare at the Jedi. Did she just ask her to kneel down and act like her prisoner? The voices in her head urged relentlessly against this plan but she willed them all to silence. She placed her weapon into one of the folds inside her cloak then slowly knelt down. Other Sith would say she was a fool, but for some reason she trusted this Jedi. They had history since their first encounter back on Manaan, and they Jedi, like herself, had protected them from their brethren then.

Slowly she placed her hands atop her head feeling slightly like a fool. She knew that death would be chosen over capture if it ever came to it, and here she was playing a captured enemy. "I'm putting a lot of faith in your plan...and you, Jedi." The corridors were haunted by the sounds of several footfalls. She lowered her head trying to hide the grin on her face. She was starting feel some kind of bond with this Jedi, her stomach feeling all fuzzy and warm inside.

The look given to Venefica was one of near uncontrolled laughter. Sera almost didn't believe that the Sith had agreed to the plan. What a funny way the galaxy chose to show its sense of humor. "That is quite a look. I will cherish this moment." With a flick of the activator on her violet saber, she held it right handed just above her faux opponent, awaiting their latest guests. "The irony of this is not lost on me, don't worry. Just try and remember that we're not killing them if we don't have to." Not wanting to admit it, and certainly not about to make mention of it, Seraphina couldn't help but smile at the possibility that this human dark sider was beginning to warm up to her.

Not more than 20 seconds passed before what looked like a platoon of men rushed the room, blasters drawn and at the ready, shouting orders back and forth as they scanned the area and observed the Jedi and Sith smack dab in the center of the large room, metal limbs scattered about and a partially functioning war droid off to the side, all while the entirety of the room was in disrepair. It appeared as if some great storm had passed through, tearing everything in its path asunder, leaving nothing but rubble and corpses in its wake.

"You! Halt what you're doing! Lower your weapon and identify yourself immediately or we will open fire!" All of the weapons simultaneously raised towards the Jedi.

Cocking her head to the side, Sera addressed them sternly, yet politely, her saber still drawn and hovering above Venefica's shoulder. "Lower my weapon? You have no idea what you are dealing with here. I am Jedi Shel'tah of the Galactic Republic. Kneeling before you is a member of the One Sith. A criminal. A murderer. I've been tracking this one for weeks, until I stumbled upon a much larger, more sinister plot. Turns out, she has discovered a bit of a secretive droid factory located here on Formos, and quite a number of her comrades have landed here to aide in the theft of these droids. If they have not yet already infilitrated the factory, they soon will. If you wish to have any hope of defeating them, you will require my help. Bring us there, and I will bring them to justice."

Shooting a look over to Venefica once more that gave the impression of 'hope this works', she awaited their response, as they briefly convened amongst themselves.

Seeing so many rifles pointed at the Jedi, her Jedi, began to stir the anger inside her; forcing her to struggle with herself not to react. She was no fool, she understood they would be cut down the moment she made any move so she sat there stewing in her own anger; eyes looking down at the floor and biting her lower lip. She felt powerless but she had put her faith in the Jedi, and the Jedi did not disappoint as she spoke with a stern voice directed at the soldiers.

The mention of her nonexistent comrades caused her to smile almost ruining the rouse if any of the soldiers saw the facial gesture. Luckily for the duo the gesture was not seen as they began to discuss the situation among themselves until one spoke. "Thank you Jedi for your assistance in this matter. Our employers are not happy with what has transpired here but I do not have the authority to discuss the details of this factory with you. Both of you will come with us and speak to our employers. And that Sith scum will need to be shackled." The man motioned for one his teammates to cuff the Sith.

Darth Venefica looked up at the Jedi and winked. The Sith Knight rose to her feet and placed her hands out in front of her, then was cuffed. Once more she felt the anger rising and one more she had to suppress it, she thought if she ever had to be cuffed; she hoped it would be the female Jedi and in a different scenario. The fools thought basic cuffs would be enough to keep her restrained but for now, she would allow them to think it. And to further impress upon her that they indeed fools, they failed to pat her down for a weapon assuming the Jedi had already done so, since she had two lightsabers herself.

"Well Jedi, now that you caught this criminal and murderer," she began when she was rewarded with a hard jab from the butt of a blaster rifle in the middle of her back. "Silence," the soldier said. Darth Venefica mentally promised herself that if this all went wrong and they were forced to fight, she would kill that soldier last, slowly and painfully.

The lowering of the weapons was a dramatic relief for her. Sera wasn't interested in killing, or rather attempting to kill, all of these armed men. "Very well." She said as they shackled the hands of the Sith, without having patted her down. "Lead on." As they began following their apparent captain towards wherever this destination was to speak with the employer she heard Venefica begin to say something before being prodded by the rifle of the man walking behind her. She remained quiet as they walked, though she allowed herself to reach out towards the Sith's mind and ever so gently press against it. If they are leading us to a trap, we need to be mindful of who is in charge and capture them. We have few leads, and this may be our only opportunity.

Allowing her mind to slowly wander about, she gently prodded against each of the men in turn to garner any bit of useful information possible out of them. Memories of recent events that contained number sequences possibly relating to door codes, prison cells, data locks, or access panels. She would retain the number sequences and relay them to Venefica, as they could potentially be used in the future, though this skill of hers was still in training, so she could not obtain a full grasp as to what these potential codes may in fact be used for. Remember these number sets, they may come in handy. 05467, 186257, 4363, 910476.

After walked through a number of corridors to the exit, they were brought to an awaiting vehicle which drove them several kilometers to a large warehouse in the industrial district of Formos. The pair were then blindfolded and ushered out, being led through doorways, rooms, and corridors. The floor was made of durasteel, and the chambers echoed as the men spoke amongst themselves. This building had appeared large, but not large enough to be the factory itself. This was likely either a trap, or the location of an underground organization. She wasn't quite sure, but she had to continue, what other options were there?
