A Jedi and His Apprentice Episode I: The Search for a Decent Title

“Oh…” The Padawan muttered softly as the woman spoke, seemingly having evaluated her rather accurately from their very limited interactions. The mark of a Master no doubt, but she didn’t quite know what to make of this. She watched the woman motion toward a white creature she hadn’t noticed before, the little beast disappearing deeper into the temple as the woman approached.

A bit of surprise sparked in Joza’s eyes when the dark haired woman moved toward her, looking towards her with analytical eye. It made her a little uncomfortable and the hand closest to her lightsaber hilt twitched, but she made no aggressive movements and was careful not to exude a hostile aura, though she remained cautious.

When she commented on her race, a thin red brow arched just a hair upwards. Joza only knew of two other Zeltron Jedi, both a part of the Silver Sanctum, one of whom was not raised on Zeltros as she was. Her gaze flickered to her Master when the mysterious woman’s attention turned to him. So far she had not spoken up again, unsure of what to say and yet having nothing to add.

"Forgive my ignorance, i am not able to look through the records of your order as readily as you are and even more so the history of it... though i meant the most notable members i could think of off the top of my head. Hmm..." She trained her eyes back on the apprentice and then the knight with it and smiled. "You two are a unique pair none the less. Bith and Zeltron as master and student. Not unusual but still a unique pair to be sure in the current realm of master student pairs. No?" She turned her eyes back on Dune again and would wait for his answer before moving.

Once she had his answer, her movements would bring her back to sitting where she had been the moment they had come. Her movements and voice never losing their tone but she did seem to shift in the way that she looked at the two of them. It had turned from curiosity into the pair, to something more akin of a analytical gaze. One that tried to tear apart them from simply staring and it would be almost cold in how she looked over each of them. No emotion showed in the eyes as they cut over the two's bodies and she smiled as her eyes did so. "Now, why are you here again?"

"A Bith and Zeltron, hardly the most unique pair of Jedi ever."

His eyes followed her progress, deliberately measured in her place. The stranger was testing master and apprentice, weighing and measuring. Her curt question struck him as being equally intentional.

"You are why we're here. This enclave had been abandoned for decades. Then you appear and it coincides with civil unrest." His tone was one of stating the facts, no angry lobbing of accusations. It was deliberate too, on his part. He wanted some indication of anything on her part.

The Padawan was unsure of what exactly to make of the situation. On one hand she felt as if this woman wanted little to do with them, but then again she hadn’t chased them away and was still engaging them, wasn’t she? There was nothing inherently malevolent about her, but that certainly didn’t mean that she wasn’t powerful and could likely end them if she felt the need to.

Joza struggled with the idea of pushing those thoughts away so that they wouldn’t cloud her mind, but holding onto them at the same time so as to not betray her instincts. Her breath hitched in her throat as the woman now regarded them with a certain coldness in her gaze that made her shiver. Risking a glance at her mentor, she figured he was likely more confident in this situation than she was.

"Perhaps it is your turn to find out your information is not as strong as you had thought. This home of mine is maybe a decade old at best, i am the one that built it after all and as such i can promise you it is no older than your apprentice there, or even most of the younglings of your order." She smiled as she watched the apprentice once more and studied the girl. The shiver and the caution in the younger one made her smile all the more as she now posed the girl a question solely and was curious of the answer. "You are far different than your master, hes been calm and collected while you have been uneasy, tense, and all together pushing against the worry of what i might present you and your master with. Something tells me you are not exactly one that holds her hand in situations... no?"

"A Padawan isn't expected to have the demeanour of a full Jedi, hence why they're apprenticed until readiness."

"As far as the rest, you underestimate my learner. I don't and so I refrain from coddling her."

Her knowing smile and superior manner had begun to irritate Dune. Yet he wouldn't let himself rise to the bait. Enough with the ancillary questions, he decided. "You made this place. Why and what are your intentions?"

Even if the woman hadn’t meant to be condescending, that is what it sounded like to Joza. The hollow tone and unperturbed smile didn’t sit right with her, and she wondered if the woman truly found interest in conversing with them or was just bored. The Zeltron knew that she was still simply an apprentice and could handle due criticism, but she did not like being patronized. Thankfully, Dune had spoken first and gave Joza few seconds to let the words sink in and compose herself, making it easier to hold her tongue.

“It’s as he said.” She exhaled, regarding the woman with a slightly less unruffled yet guarded gaze. She felt no particular shame over her physical response, after all who wouldn’t feel fear in being scrutinized by someone far more powerful than you? A Knight or Master would be expected to hold themselves better, but not necessarily a Padawan. “I wasn’t born with deadened nerves. I apologize if my reaction was not up to par with your expectations, Master Jedi.” There was no hint of disrespect or sarcasm, but the holding her tongue thing didn’t exactly go well. Truthfully it was frustrating to not be able to be as naturally collected as a fully trained Jedi, but some things could only be learned with experience.

And in that moment, when the words Master Jedi hit her head did she finally just relax and her gaze became happy and caring instead of that analytical visage she had created. Her voice sounded with a quick and glee filled laugh that filled the halls they stood in and her head shook with the smile stretching on her face as a white form moved and jumped onto her shoulder. That form being the white furred Ashlan wolf which she had bonded with long ago. "I must say, its been a bit since i heard that one and even then it was a mistake then as it is now. I can promise you, im not a Jedi nor much of a master these days so no need for titles."

She started to stand as all caution fell from her shoulders and she smiled a bit more. "Im sorry to be a bit of a pain there, last visitor that came by was interesting enough and a Jedi like you two, which is why i was curious about if you had come on a report he gave your order... considering the inaccuracy of your information im going to have to say thats a no and that makes me a bit more interested in you two." This Alexandra was like a completely new person, nothing being hidden and no longer watching the two of them like they could become enemies at any moment. Part of this was for the fact a small amount of her other self still remained, but she mostly did it for the reason she gave them.

"So, if i may formally introduce myself. I am Alexandra Feanor, Historian of the Order of the Grey, and Caretaker of the Temple you stand in... it is a pleasure to meet you two Jedi and greet you in my home. This little pint sized creature is named Daeda, a pain in the ass most of the time but a second brain is worth the bond i made with him." Her hand came up to pet the head of the creature as it looked at her in a expression that showed its annoyance at the statement but seemed to have its own wolfen smile appear as she scratched its head.

Dune watched his apprentice with a sense of pride. Standing up for herself while maintaining her composure was a step in the right direction. Though he wouldn't say as much, he was proud of her. One day, he'd be proud to call her sister Jedi and that day might be sooner than later.

"Master Feanor." Dune bowed again. "A Grey Jedi, in the sense of the potentium theory of no Light or Dark, just the Force?"

Eh? Mild surprise crossed the Padawan’s face as the woman’s demeanor changed entirely. Instead of being wary and calculating, now she was open and friendly. Bubbly, almost. Is this some sort of trick? Her own natural empathetic abilities weren’t lying to her, so she wondered if this woman was using some sort of advanced mind trick.

“I see…” Joza tilted her head to get a better look at Daeda, analyzing the white creature for a few moments before he gaze returned to [member="Alexandra Feanor"]. “You have a…charming home.” Green eyes would wander from Alexandra up along the temple walls, noting the overgrowths of vines and other flora that spiraled along the great structures. It’s almost as if it wasn’t unkempt, but had a certain…raw quality to it.

Rolling her shoulders back, she awaited the answer to Dune’s question with curiosity. The Bith Jedi was quite clever when it came to gaining knowledge, something she hoped to pick up from him.

"Actually no, when i think about my order of the grey it was about Balance rather than a theory of light or dark not existing. I fully recognize both of them as simply two sides of a coin that could be used in different ways. For example, as a sith i still used the lightside instead as my methods were my own and the methods of the common sith were too crude and cruel. It was hard to devote myself to them at that time but in the end it mattered little as the Sith do as they will always do and thus, here i am. A Ghost of what used to be." She shrugged and looked at the Bith as the smile grew. "Of course though, im sure the idea of a light wielding force user on the side of the sith is a bit confusing, but trust me, it was just as annoying to them as it was to those who fought them."

"An erstwhile Sith Lord," he said "Being a 'Grey' Jedi seems a popular choice among both sides." He considered then spoke again "Perhaps an easier choice than to pick a side. Ultimately, we must all make a choice as even not making a choice is still a choice."

"My own choice is not one of moral superiority, but a want to help many instead of myself.""
