Roona’s eyes returned to the footage, whatever attack had taken place had been done quickly. At least, that’s what she surmised from what she had seen. It seemed to her that there was little chance of finding any survivors, but they would see the mission through to completion. Taking her gaze from the grim imagery, she glanced to Caphey as he spoke up.
It was the same question on everyone’s mind, no doubt.
“I’m not sure,” She answered honestly, shifting focus to the live security feed that displayed the other locations that made up the mining complex. “If it is… we’ll find it and take it down.”
The sights they had witnessed on the screens was chilling, even Roona had felt a shiver crawl up her spine. She was used to fighting, to be sure, but the enemy usually came in the form of hostile soldiers. Sometimes that fact did make it difficult to pull the trigger, but at the same time, there was something familiar about their tactics and methods. With this strange species, Roona was left feeling uncertain.
They didn’t truly know what their enemy was capable of.
Then, the screen closest to Clark lit up – cameras aimed at the front gates had been activated due to motion in the area. The private sat up straight, and leaned in towards the screen. His gloved finger reached out, pointing towards the edge of the display. “There, do you see it?” He asked, almost just to receive some kind of confirmation that he wasn’t going mad – that someone else did see it, too.
As if on cue, the voice of Harris came over their comms. Indeed there was something out there.
Roona felt her stomach drop slightly; her sharp gaze had spotted the Colonel’s team exiting the crew quarters. There were rangers springing to action, getting ready to face whatever was by the gates.
Her visor found the members of her team, and she gave them a swift nod.
“We’ve done what we can here,” She said, readying her weapon. “Let’s move to support the others.”
Moving out of the room, she would begin to leave the blinking lights and display monitors of the control room behind. Clark was close on her heels, and she assumed the others weren’t far behind. If this creature was as dangerous as it appeared, they would need to keep their wits about them.
Outside in the snow, the footsteps their team had made earlier were already covered. The blistering cold awaited them…
