Reina couldn't even hide her grin at the idea of helping out and being called upon. Patience wasn't a virtue of her's which is why she was so eager but alas, good things only came to those who wait. She blinked however as Reina noticed Valery seemingly studying her. What for, the woman had no clue.

The idea of having something to eat did seem appealing at the very least. Reina was used to working on an empty stomach. Sometimes she didn't exactly have a choice. Though...tea was another thing that was strange to her. She knew what tea was obviously, but she had never really had any herself. The concept of drinking a hot liquid was always strange to her. Yes, you eat hot food, but why would you also drink something that was hot? Wouldn't you burn your mouth?

Though before the woman could respond, she heard that sound. The wail. Funnily enough, the sound sent a wave of...protective fear through her body. Reina's eyes darting around to try and find the source of the noise before Valery spoke up. Reina hadn't ever dealt with a baby or seen one close up. The very thought of it terrified her. Not for her own safety, no. She was worried that her just being around a baby could ruin their childhood. Like how her's was...

"I'd...love to."

It was better to face your fears than leave them be however. She knew her fears were irrational. She had to focus on the practical side of things. There was no way Valery would let one of her kids have a terrible childhood. So Reina could relax.

Valery led the way, her steps light as she guided Reina into the adjacent room. The warm, quiet space was dimly lit, the soft glow of a nightlight casting gentle shadows across the walls. Nestled within a crib, wrapped snugly in a soft bundle of fabric, was Yvaine — tiny, peaceful, but growing increasingly fussy with each passing second.

The moment Valery stepped into view, however, the little one's distress eased just slightly. Her small, sleepy eyes blinked open, searching, unfocused at first — until they locked onto her mother.

Then came the grabby hands.

Valery chuckled, stepping forward without hesitation. "Oh, I know, little princess," she murmured, reaching down with practiced ease. Carefully, she scooped Yvaine up, cradling her close against her chest. A small, contented sigh left the baby as she nestled into the warmth, her tiny fingers grasping at the fabric of Valery's top.

Swaying gently, Valery turned to Reina, her amber eyes soft with something far warmer than battle-hardened fire. "Would you like to try?" she asked, tilting her head slightly. There was no expectation in her voice, just an invitation. A quiet understanding.

"It's… quite a lovely thing," she added, her smirk small but genuine. "Feeling how warm and small they are."

Reina had seen plenty — war, struggle, survival. But this? This was something different. Something delicate. Something worth protecting.

At first, Reina stood far away, right by the door. Watching as Valery took out the small child. A glowing beacon of warmth and love. She couldn't imagine herself having looked like that when she was that young. In fact, she didn't know how she looked when she was that young. There were no photos or vids of her. It was strange to say the least as she just watched the daughter and mother bond. It was such a surreal feeling. To know that she should have had something like that. Some kind of bond with her own parents but she didn't.

Her eyes went down to Yvaine when Valery asked if she wanted to try. There were so many thoughts that came rushing through Reina's head. That it would be too dangerous. She didn't know the first thing about holding a child. That she might make them cry. That her hands would be too rough. But Reina took in a deep breath. Pushed those thoughts to the back of her mind and stepped closer towards Valery and Yvaine, carefully holding her hands out.

"How should I hold her?...They are a her right? I heard you say little princess so..."

The fisherwoman looked down at the child for a moment, the fire in her eyes dulling slightly. Reina couldn't help the smile that slowly crept up onto her face. The Jedi weren't the only beacon of hope and light in this galaxy. No. So were the children, as Reina was slowly finding out.

Valery's smirk softened into something warmer as Reina stepped forward, hesitation still lingering in her body language, but curiosity winning out. The younger woman held out her hands, uncertain, and Valery nodded approvingly. She could see the thoughts racing through her mind, the doubts, the hesitations—but Reina was pushing past them. That was what mattered.

"Yes," Valery confirmed gently, "She's my little girl." There was something undeniably fond in her tone, the kind of warmth that only came from deep, unconditional love. Shifting slightly, Valery adjusted her stance so she could guide Reina's hands into position. "Alright, just like this," she murmured, carefully transferring Yvaine into her arms. "Support her head, and let the rest of her body settle against you."

The moment Yvaine nestled into Reina's hold, the tiny bundle let out a happy little coo, her sleepy eyes blinking up at the unfamiliar face before her. Then, as if making up her mind, she gurgled something incoherent and reached up — little fingers wiggling, grasping at the air.

Valery chuckled softly, stepping back just enough to let Reina experience the moment. "Seems like she really likes you already," she mused, arms crossing lightly as she watched them.

Yvaine squirmed slightly, making another delighted noise, her tiny hands now batting gently at Reina's shirt, as if testing this new person holding her. The innocence of it, the sheer trust, was something Valery knew was rare for those who had seen the harsher sides of the galaxy. But here, in this quiet moment, there was no war, no struggle — just a baby's simple joy.

And maybe, just maybe, that was exactly what Reina needed to feel.

Reina blinked as little Yvaine started to make grabby hands up towards her. The younger woman's eyes going wide for a moment out of panic as her eyes shot up towards Valery. As if to look for confirmation that she wasn't doing wrong or that Yvaine didn't need anything...but the look from Valery and the confirmation that Yvaine already seemed to like her was all Reina needed to relax ever so slightly.

"Hi there...I'm Reina. You're a very lucky girl, you know that?"

There was a softness to Reina's voice that she didn't even know she had as she gently held Yvaine. It was strange in a way. She wanted to hold on as tight as she could, to make sure the baby was safe but she felt...comfortable holding her like this. It almost felt right. Almost being the key word. All the joy Yvaine had...Reina wondered if she was ever like that. Had she been a babbler as a baby? Or more quiet like she was now...

"You have a super special mother. You know that? You're her little princess..."

As she spoke away, Reina couldn't fight the tears that were building up on her face again. Some of joy, some of sorrow. What was important though was the smile on her face as she looked down at the little Noble.

Valery's fiery gaze softened as she watched the way Reina held Yvaine — tentative at first, but gradually more at ease. The shift was subtle but unmistakable. The way Reina spoke, the way her voice carried a quiet warmth she probably didn't even realize she had, the way she looked at Yvaine… it was all so different from the hardened exterior she often carried.

The little one was thriving in the moment.

She let out another happy coo, her tiny fingers finally managing to grasp at a piece of Reina's shirt, clinging onto the fabric like she had just claimed a new favorite person. A toothless grin spread across her face, and she kicked her little legs in excitement, clearly enjoying the attention. Then — one of her tiny hands reached up, patting at Reina's cheek with clumsy determination, as if sensing the emotion she was feeling.

Valery chuckled, stepping just a little closer, her arms folding loosely across her chest. "That's her way of saying she likes you," she murmured, watching as Yvaine continued her playful little explorations.

Then, after a brief pause, her expression turned thoughtful—warm, but carrying the weight of something deeper. "This," she said softly, motioning slightly toward the scene before her. "This is why I fight. Why I do what I do." Her amber eyes met Reina's, full of conviction. "Not for war. Not for duty. Not just because it's the right thing to do. But this—" she gestured toward Yvaine, "—this is what always keeps me strong. What keeps me on the right path."

A small smile tugged at her lips as she reached out to brush a thumb over her daughter's head, "To be able to experience moments like this. To protect them. To make sure that the innocent, the young, the ones who have yet to see the worst of the galaxy… still have a chance at a life full of this."

She was quiet at first. Just watching Yvaine explore and grin away. It caused Reina's smile to grow wider for a moment before she felt the small hand patting away at her cheek. Now the waterfall was flowing down Reina's cheeks. The innocence Yvaine had. How even a small baby was able to realise Reina's emotions better than Reina could herself. She rubbed her face against her arm for a moment to get rid of the tears, keeping the grin on her face even as her lip quivering for a moment.

"If that's true, I like you as well Yvaine. You're a little catch."

An adorable little catch. Of course, it was strange that she was comparing a baby to a fish, but there were near enough the same thing...right? You could carry them in baskets, you could hold them close to your chest. They could smell...Where was Reina trying to go with this thought? Though Reina lifted her head up once Valery started to speak. Giving the woman her full attention. Reina wasn't sure when it happened, but she wasn't just listening to Valery because she was strong, or because she respected her. No. Reina trusted Valery. And trusted what she had to say.

"I can...understand it. Why you do what you do. It makes things easier. It's...easier to deal with the things you've done, when you know you have a sight like this waiting for you."

But Reina wouldn't always have this sight. She knew that. Even so...now Reina had more of a reason to be stubborn. A new reason never to give up. For the future. For children like Yvaine. She had to make this Galaxy a better place for them. Her childhood might not have been the best...but it gave her the strength and stubbornness to protect other childhoods.

Valery watched as the tears slipped down Reina's cheeks, silent but undeniable, and yet — she was smiling. That was what mattered. That was what Valery focused on, a small warmth tugging at her own heart as she saw the younger woman slowly, finally, allow herself this moment. She didn't say anything right away. She didn't have to. Yvaine had already done all the talking, her tiny hand still patting at Reina's cheek with clumsy determination, her toothless grin unwavering.

Then, as Reina lifted her head, her gaze steady with something deeper, something more certain, Valery met it with quiet understanding. Valery's expression softened, her amber eyes glinting with something thoughtful. She nodded, a slow, knowing motion.

"It is."

Her gaze flicked briefly to Yvaine, still curled comfortably in Reina's arms, her tiny fingers now tangled in the fabric of her shirt. The baby knew nothing of war. Nothing of pain. Nothing of the darkness lurking in the corners of the galaxy. And Valery wanted to keep it that way for as long as she could.

"This is my strength," she murmured, lifting a hand to gently brush a thumb over Yvaine's soft, wispy hair. "No matter how hard things get, no matter how much I struggle, I know I always have this to come home to. And that keeps me steady. It keeps me true to who I am." Her fiery gaze returned to Reina, warm but firm.
"It might not look like this for you now. But what you do? The way you fight? The way you push forward? That's what allows so many others to come home like this." Valery let that settle before continuing, her voice dipping lower, more certain.

"And one day, I think you'll find your own version of this, too." She smirked slightly, tilting her head. "Maybe it'll be a child of your own. A partner waiting for you at the end of a mission. Or even just a home or a Temple filled with people who love you, who make you feel safe." Her smile softened.

"Find your reason, Reina. Find what keeps you steady, what makes you want to stay true to who you are." She glanced down at Yvaine, watching the baby snuggle deeper against Reina's chest, tiny fingers gripping tight as if she never wanted to be let go.

"And hold onto it."

Reina couldn't get over how warm it felt. Just holding a child like this. It was like nothing else mattered in the Galaxy right now. To think that Reina's actions could help make the Galaxy a safer place for children. To make it a warmer place. It made her feel like she was right in being as stubborn as she was. She couldn't give up, no matter what she did. Not when she was fighting for the future. Fighting for the children. That was her purpose. Yes.

"It's...so strange to think I was this little once. This innocent. Part of me feels like I was just made this way."

It was true. If Reina didn't know better, she'd have thought she was made in a lab or cloned from something. There was no way she could have ever been this sweet and innocent. No. She must have came out the way she was. Of course, she knew she was mostly just a product of her upbringing. Her surroundings. They never allowed her a chance to be innocent. To be sweet. So that's why Reina was going to make sure that Yvaine would have the best upbringing she could.

Though Reina couldn't help but break out into a small laugh at the suggestion that she'd end up having a child of her own. A family of her own, or even a partner. None of that seemed possible to Reina. She didn't have the right personality to have a kid, or have a partner. She was just herself...but having a place to return to sounded right. But Valery had a point. She needed to find a reason to fight. Sure, her stubbornness and refusal to give up counted as a reason but she needed something she wanted to return to...

"I appreciate this a lot, Master Noble. I'm not...great at talking. You probably have already figured that out."

Valery watched Reina carefully, the way she held Yvaine, the way her expression shifted — thoughtful, a little distant, but warm. She could feel it, the weight of realization settling over her. The stubborn, battle-worn fighter who rarely let herself slow down, rarely let herself feel, was allowing herself this moment. And it mattered. It meant something.

Then, a soft little coo broke the moment.

Yvaine, ever the tiny force of nature, stretched her arms out toward Valery, her small fingers flexing as if reaching for the warmth and comfort she knew so well. Valery's expression melted instantly. With practiced ease, she reached out and gently lifted her daughter from Reina's arms, cradling her close.

"I think someone's getting hungry," she murmured, brushing a hand over Yvaine's soft, wispy hair. The baby snuggled into her mother's chest with a happy sigh, her tiny hands gripping at the fabric of Valery's tunic.

Valery chuckled softly before glancing back at Reina, warmth still lingering in her fiery gaze. "You don't have to be great at talking," she assured her. "You just have to be willing to listen. To let yourself feel." She smiled. "And I think you're already better at that than you realize."

With that, she shifted Yvaine slightly in her arms, readying to feed her. But she kept her attention on Reina, knowing this wouldn't be their last conversation. She would always have a place here. And one day, maybe — just maybe — she'd realize she had something to come home to, too.

There was a small look of disappointment in Reina's face as she gave Yvaine over. It made sense if she was hungry to give her to Valery but that didn't make it any easier. The warmth Reina felt from holding Yvaine had quickly faded. Though at least now she knew how that felt. It gave her the motivation that she had needed.

Reina listened to the words that Valery said, frowning to herself in thought. She was doing a better job at feeling than she realised? That was possible. There was a chance that her body reacted in ways that her mind hadn't realised yet. Emotions were going to be a hassle though. That was something she was going to need to get used to. But emotions meant she was alive.

"I should...probably get going so you can feed her."

She jabbed her thumbs towards the exit, giving an awkward smile. Reina was grateful for this talk. It had helped sort out plenty of the thoughts she had in her mind. Thoughts that she was worried would swallow her up and never let her out but now she realised that those thoughts were a part of her. And that they were okay. She just couldn't let them control her. She was in control of herself. Her emotions, her mind and her body...Though her excitement and impatience to get back into action might eventually take control over her.

Valery watched Reina closely, the subtle shift in her expression not lost on her. The moment Yvaine left her arms, that warmth she had been basking in seemed to fade, replaced by something just a little disappointed. A little reluctant. Valery's smirk softened, her fiery gaze glinting with quiet understanding.

Before Reina could turn to leave, Valery adjusted Yvaine slightly in her arms and spoke up, her tone casual but warm.

"You know, if you'd like, you could always come babysit sometime," she offered, a teasing edge laced into her words, but the offer was genuine. "Yvaine, Eryx, even the triplets — they're a handful, but I bet they'd love the extra company." She smirked. "And something tells me you'd be pretty good at it."

Yvaine let out a tiny content sigh, still curled up against her mother's chest, and Valery chuckled softly before meeting Reina's gaze again, a little more serious now.

"I'm also going to reach out soon about that mission," she continued. "And maybe even some extra training together." Her expression turned knowing. "I have a feeling you're itching to get back into action."

Valery wasn't about to let Reina throw herself into battle without the right balance — but she also knew the younger woman well enough to understand she needed to move, to do, to fight for something. And if Valery could help her find the right way to channel that? She would.

Babysitting...Huh. She had felt like she was helping to babysit Everest back on Jedha but that had been when she didn't have any patience for the girl. The actual idea of babysitting was strangely...appealing now that she had met Yvaine. It could be a good way for her to learn how to be patient as well. She couldn't see herself getting frustrated at any of Valery's kids...

"I don't know who Eryx is...and I didn't even know you had triplets, but I'd be...honoured to babysit them. If any of them need swimming lessons..."

Reina was getting more comfortable. Evident by her trying to make some humour in the situation. She couldn't teach to save her life anyway. The way she'd teach someone to swim is by grabbing them and just chucking them into the ocean. If they floated, great. If they sank...Well, it gave Reina an excuse to go diving.

"I think it's obvious that I'm itching to get back out there...I just feel...locked inside right now. Trying to read in the archives, sparring in the training rooms. Feels like I'm trapped."

As she spoke, Reina just formed a fist with one of her hands before wrapping the other hand around it to imitate it being trapped. She had a habit of trying to make metaphorical things be seen in a literal light.

Valery's smirk grew as Reina admitted that she'd be honored to babysit. Oh, she was definitely tucking that away for later. "Eryx is my youngest after Yvaine," she explained, adjusting Yvaine slightly in her arms. "And the triplets… well, I'll just say, if you can handle them, you can handle anything." There was an unmistakable warmth in her voice, teasing but genuine.

Her fiery gaze glinted with amusement before shifting into something more knowing as Reina spoke again. Valery watched as she formed a fist, then wrapped her other hand around it, the visual metaphor speaking louder than words ever could. She understood that feeling. The restless energy. The need to do something, to move, to act.

Valery let out a thoughtful hum. "Then let's change that."

Today would be the beginning. They'd go on missions together, and when she did end up at the Temple again, she'd have some little ones to look after.

"And the triplets… well, I'll just say, if you can handle them, you can handle anything."

"I've handled worse than triplets! I'll be able to deal with them!"

Reina broke out into a small grin at that. She was confident that a few kids wouldn't be able to get on her nerves. Of course, there was every chance she could be wrong but in Reina's eyes, there was no way she could be wrong.

It was a strange feeling for Reina. To have so much energy that she wanted to get rid of. Normally she'd have been exhausted. But that was the thing from going from a life of pure work and action to one that was a bit more sedimentary meant she had so much energy just stored up and waiting to be unleashed.

"Well. I can't wait. I mean...I can wait. I obviously have to wait. But you get my point."
