A Long Road Ahead

"Well first off: you look way older than a decade older than me," Lanir smirked. "In order to use the Force welll I need to understand it better, and this seems to be part of thaf training. Honestly I'm fine with this. I've got years to master the force; I'm in no hurry." Lanir eyed the fruit that Thurion was eating. It looked an awful lot tastier than the dry ration bar he was eating.

Of course he had a nice gundark egg omlette packed away in his pack, but he was hoping to save that for an actual lunch instead of an impromptu chowdown such as this. Since he was constantly hungry, he had spent time learning how to cook in order to feed himself. He decided finally gave up and grabbed a fruit off the tree. He took a bite and savored the sweet taste and fuzzy texture of the exotic fruit.

"Of course eventually I'm going to have to learn to defend myself with a lightsaber, but I'd rather be able to disarm someone with the Force," he said through mouthfuls of fruit. "However I'm more content to eat and talk about life. I've been busy recently and it's nice to unwind."

It was true; though he had only lived to see 25 GSY in his life so far, Thurion both looked and felt far older than he was. "Fighting wars and serving others makes old men of all whom would walk such a path, I suppose", he said, trying not to sound too remorseful. "You might find it hard to believe, but I've never taken a life through all my years as a Jedi. I don't see how taking lives would stop others from doing the same. Still, I do what I can to protect the innocent."

"As much as I like to believe that I will never have to kill, I think such a feat is almost impossible these days, especially if I live to be old and gray," Lanir said. "The only comfort I have is that I would avoid killing at any cost. Before the Sith, Jedi kept the peace for thousands of years without needless loss of life. I like to believe that someday we can return to that state. However, billions may have to die before we can reach such a position. My goal is to avoid rhe bloodshed and pursue peace by other means. War only breeds hate, which in turn leads to more war. Only peace is a lasting solution."

Lanir sighed as he thought about the state of affairs in the galaxy. Through his pursuit of knowledge, he had grown to admire the old Jedi order. Ironically, the top Jedi of this day were not even a thousandth as powerful as the old Jedi. The combat prowess of Jedi had depleted, but the potential to create peace had never been diminished.

Thurion nodded, smiling. "Then perhaps you are an even wiser man than I, my Padawan", he said, putting his hand on the youngster's shoulder. "I pray that the fates will be kind to you. You deserve to live a long and happy life just from what I've heared here, today. I can only hope to guide you on the right path along the way, and when the time comes when I'm no longer here, you will still be left standing." He gave the shoulder and light pat before standing up, adjusting his leather jacket.

"Now, then... Where would you like to begin, Lanir?" he asked, offering a hand for the teen to grab onto.

"Hmm," Lanir thought carefully as he took the man's hand and got to his feet. "It has been a while since I've seen the Council Chambers. The last time I was there must have been five or six years ago, at least that's what I remember. I want to see what you old and wizened Jedi Masters are up to in the Chamber."

When he had gotten his notice to begin his Padawan training with master [member="Thurion Heavenshield"] , he had been away visiting his warmongering relatives back on Anaxes. Despite the differences in ideology, they were still family and he owed them the visit. The last memory he had of the chambers was from when he was about a meter and a half tall, if even. The Council would look much more different from his new perspective.
