A More Fulfilling Career

"YOU'RE FIRED!" Aleya's latest boss had enough of her resilient attitude. With a sigh, she grabbed her pack and left, turning into the streets. It was dark and the red and orange lights of the undercity made her yellow eyes seem to glow. She popped a cigarette in her mouth and gave it a quick light, inhaling deeply, closing her eyes momentarily. Letting out the smoke, she released yet another gloomy sigh. "Well crap," she finally said to herself. She had been going through jobs, trying to keep her head above the water, food in her stomach, and a bed under her body. These were all very hard.

Aleya had stayed in so many different apartment complexes lately, it was almost dizzying. Last night had been the last one in her previous place. Now she had to find a new place to rest.

Walking up the street, she began looking for some grungier apartments that would most likely let her shack up. After about ten minutes, she made her pick and went to the office, quickly flicking her cigarette in an oddly colored puddle. "Hey," she started, quickly thinking of some sob story, "My husband and I had it out, and he was threatening me and I was so scared." Aleya put on her biggest, most believable pity face. "I was wondering if I could stay here for a few nights until he calms down?" The guy at the desk didn't say anything and just made a rude gesture. "Well screw you too!" she yelled, turning back through the doors.

With a grunt she leaned up against the outside wall and slowly slide herself down, sitting with her knees tucked up near her chin. She just needed to rest for a while before caring about finding a dry place to sleep.

There were some sounds as the jedi master walked, she was here plying some of the wares they had worked with and on to show to other people. In the storefronts as they got to work out making more of the tani farms to use with soem of the things. Expanding how much of it could be sold off and created before her jedi were on some of the other people. She was walking and felt something braush along her senses for a moment but didn't really know what it was before she let the komono style robes obscure and cover most of herself. Her hair down in thick braids to her ankles while the petite jedi master came upon something in the distance. Turning her head up and seeing a girl sitting slumped against the wall but she wasn't dead thankfully. No visible signs of death or sickness when she was approaching with a small look on her face. "Are you alright?"

Unfortunately for Aleya, she rarely caught a break in this galaxy. Things have always and probably will always be really difficult for her. But sometimes, miracles happen. Just sometimes. She felt a strong bend in the Force coming towards her. A woman. Shorter than Aleya. Her words were some of the gentlest things she had ever heard. The phrase "Are you alright" is not one she very often heard. No one really cared enough to ask that much. "I'm still alive. What brings someone with your power to this low in the city?" she asked, noting the strong pull of the Force she exerted. She was always aware of the Force and could sense it in others. Especially this woman.

Hmm so she could sense the force, that was interesting while she looked over some of the things with her eyes looking over her. "Well is there a reason i shouldn't be?" She was looking over some of the really powerful things that might come down here... a jedi should be among them if only to workt o ensure the weak were not exploited. The hungry not made to starve or the sick to die, she couldn't save everybody but she could bring food and rations as needed or some credits here and there with the stipends. "A jedi goes where people need them most."

Aleya grinned, "I suppose that could be true. But nonetheless this is where the scum of the galaxy tend to end up." The white haired woman stood, standing just taller than the Jedi. "But at least I know I was right, you are a Jedi," she said, "I'm Aleya." She sized up the smaller woman. "Hey, would you happen to have a dry place for me to sleep tonight? Tomorrow I'll hop a shuttle and go to some other planet and begin scavenging there." Aleya knew she had just enough credits to be able to afford a quick ride to some other overpopulated planet to find refugee in. This had been her life for a few years now, it wasn't an issue, just a way of living.

Matsu looked at her as she spoke and there was something about the girl that said interest but there was always a need to be careful and work for some of the things when she nodded her head. "I do, on my ship." It wasn't much but the Botany Bay was made to be a nice meditative spot compared to some of the other places and she could work with that while she looked up at the girl. Her jet black eyes and hair a nice contrast to her very pale face. "It can take you where you need to go but there is surely a place you could go to find a better way of life?" She didn't offer judgement with it more curiosity moving to the side so she could join her. "I am jedi master Matsu."

Aleya sighed with relief internally. A place to sleep would be very welcomed. She had no idea where she was going to go after this. "Uhhh, heh. Not really, no," her head dropped in embarrasment. "Usually I just try and find odd jobs here and there. Nothing ever sticks. I am apparently 'too stubborn' or something like that. The little money I make I put into food and otherwise I sex or beg my way into an apartment here and there. It works for the most part. Eventually I should run into something more permanent." She was ashamed about how she lived, but knew no other way. Unfortunately with horrible situations, people just have to live with it. "But no more of that, lets head to your ship. I would love the feel of a bed."

She was looking at her with a small nod of her head while she was walking and there was no judgement. Not everyone had the chances most of the jedi had but she could get the job done while moving around with plenty of her things and attention. "Well we'll just have to fix that if we can." The jedi master placed her hands behind her back and was walking down the way standing as tall as she was able to when finally the sight of the ship came into view. It was large and bulky, mostly made for getting around but you could do a whole lot with it as the hanger doors were opened for her with the droids going around. The massive ship was also great for the space since droids left plenty of room to have for the huge botanical and climate controlled garden. "Welcome to the Botany Bay."

After they arrive to the ship, Aleya took it all in. A bit of a rugged looking ship, but a ship. There was a mass of room and droids hovering to and fro. It was pretty inside. A large garden took up a big space, the aforementioned droids taking care of it. Inside the ship she turned to Matsu. SHe had been thinking about something she had said earlier. "You said something about fixing my situation. What exactly did you mean? I don't need help. I'm just fine," she said with only a little conviction. The truth was she needed the help. But her pride said no. Just as it always had.

Matsu looked at her while she was walking in the ship, down the halls and she left some of her equipment with a HRD that was organizing all of the things. The twin bodies they had working on some of the things there. She turned her attention to look at the girl. "Everyone needs help sometimes, even jedi. It isn't a bad thing to need help from time to time it is only really bad if you are so stubborn you never take it." She had a couple of ideas of ways the girl could help improve her life. She could offer her a chance to work at her company which would give her steady employment but there was more as they could work on all of the things. More attention going around. "well you could get a job working for a jedi research company, it isn't much but places to stay, credits to make and food. Or you could try to come and join the jedi. We are always looking for skilled members who want to help."

Aleya was hesitant in getting another job. She had had strings of jobs that ended pretty badly most of the time. That or she just got bored and didn't show up anymore. The idea of training as a Jedi was different. She always knew about her abilities in the Force. She could even use it sometimes. But not often. Never consistent. "What exactly do you have in mind?" she asked. "Specifically about Jedi training. I'm not quite sure a job would be so good for me. They never turn out well."

Hahaha well that worked in her favor then. "Jedi training is something many can do. Most like to think it is special people but really the only thing you need to be special about you is the ability to do good and work hard." Yeah she could say you had to be the best or brightest but really with the jedi she had seen that wasn't true. The most noble family could send a padawan to be trained who easily becomes evil and the most lowly begger could become a noble and honorable master. Really there was nothing to divide them within the order aside from the value some put on things with their list of what makes a jedi a real jedi. "But I have seen some in the order who have come from bad places and were some fo the most compassionate jedi, always looking to help and save others."

Compassion. A word she was so unfamiliar with. She wondered what it felt like to receive it, much less give it. All her life since she could remember, people only wanted her to do what they wanted. That was probably why she had a tough time in jobs. Being told what to do. It didn't work. "I am interested. But not sold." Aleya thought over her what she would say next for a moment. There was one important thing she had to know: "How much freedom will I have? Will I be told what to do often?" She had had enough of control in her life. If this was a way out of it and a way into a successful "career" of sorts, then she was all for it.

Matsu looked at her as she listened. "A jedi's life is control, of your emotions, of your feeling, of yourself. We both lead and serve others because we can and do so without need or thought of reward." Matsu continued in towards one of the room and opened it up revealing a large bed and empty room as the lights and machinery in the room went on. "This is where you can stay, there are fresh robes in the closet that can be used as well as a food and drink converter." Taking a step in before she was moving with a few of the things though. "As for freedom, jedi have that but you serve the galaxy, you serve the light. It is all about finding the ways to work with others and have your place in the order.

Aleya heard just enough. It was enough freedom that she could handle it. But also it sounded like a lot of work being nice. She was never a very warm person, but she could work around that. Hopefully. Honestly she would have to. Aleya knew that no matter how many times she tried to convince herself of t, the life she was leading would end in her death. And that wouldn't be too far off. "I don't know how well I'll be at serving others. But I can try. I would like to train," she said finally. She walked past Matsu into the room, setting her dirty, grungy bag at the foot of the bed on the floor. Before there was time to respond she added, "also, as much as I appreciate the robes. I prefer the clothing I'm wearing. Have you a wash?"

"Yes we do." She looked at her and pointed towards the refresher and there was always plenty of clothing you could get around here while she was looking over a couple of the other things with a smile. "When you are ready and cleaned up, we can discuss what kind of training you would like to have." There is a number of things they could be able to do and she could think of a few other parts for it before she had some of her attention on the larger things of the ship like the small upgrades they were working on. She finished changing her equipment as well standing in one of the kimono's with a small smile on her face in the large garden of the ship. All of the rare species of plants and some creatures they had found throughout the galaxy.

Once alone, Aleya stripped all of her clothes off and covered herself in a robe for the time being. She unpacked her bag, setting aside the important things. Her bag needed a good wash through. She grabbed up her clothes and empty bag and shoved everything in the refresher. With that she sat on her bed and gave herself a bit of time to think. This was going to be a much different lifestyle. She would have to reach into emotions that had never manifested themselves before. At least she would be able to have consistent sleeping situations. And food to. Speaking of food...

Aleya stood up and grabbed a few snacks to eat. She gulped them down hungrily. Her stomach sated for now, Aleya retrieved her clothes and dressed herself again. It took a bit of time to fasten all the straps and fasteners. A quick breath to compose herself, she left the room to find Matsu again. "Okay. What are we gonna do now?"

Matsu was sitting there and meditating when she heard the girl arrive with a small opening of her eye. She could see her and take in the new look while relaxing a little. "There isn't much to do, a member new to the jedi order learns the same things as everyone else. Just the others will be further along then you and my teaching style isn't always seen as the best. I prefer to let you make your own mistakes and learn yourself rather then fully hold your hand." A nice way to go about it but with several of her padawans it worked really well allowing them to learn all they could about the force and their own selves while easing the burden of making the training boring. Like this for instance where they were heading back to the one temple as she remained there. "First ell me what you know of the jedi and the force."

Aleya frowned. She wasn't highly educated. She had read some things on it out of bordem, but other than that, she didn't know much. She'd never been really concerned with knowing much. "Well. I know that the Force is all around us. It fills all beings. And I know that it can be used for certain things. As for what I know of the Jedi, well. Not much," she was ashamed at her lack of knowledge. "I know they're considered 'good' or 'pure' in some conotation."

"Good is a point of view but yes generally the jedi are considered good. They try to help those who can't help themselves because of different situations... but they are not always seen as good. Sometimes they will come to a place and be disliked not because of their actions but because the oens there are comfortable or have a culture built around something and an outside group comes in and tells them that they are wrong and have to do it this way." THere were many factors in being a jedi and many things one had to work with and respect about other people, she had seen that trap happen to others and many fail it as she remained there. "We'll start with the most basics, meditation to feel the force."
