ACT II: A Protectorate Story

Dorin held up his right index finger. "Force Hunter. If you intend to hire me, I suggest you not stoop to petty insults, intended or not. I can't imagine you would look kindly on being called some form of soldier."

He turned back around to the bar, holding up his mug to signal for a refill.

"The Galaxy is full of wealthy individuals who would seek out a hunter like me. And I would be happy to oblige them."

Dorin turned back around, renewed drink in his hands. He took a sip of the cold liquid, looking [member="Jegan Ekall"] up and down once again. "And if you're a soldier worth your station, you'll understand exactly what implication lies therein. So, if we're going to speak of business, we'd best speak of business."

"I have no such intentions," Jegan corrects with a subdued bite to his tone "the Artirian Legion are Kaikieli born and raised." He watches the Force Hunter with a furrowed brow as he turns to collect another drink in the midst of their conversation. He remembered his life before becoming surrounded by nobility; he too was once ignorant. The outlaws and many of the outsiders the Protectorate hired disgusted him, even if the Sanctum supported it. They reminded him far too much of the cesspool Trevani he had been forced to call home as a child. The men he had killed to stay alive. His time as a soldier had come and passed, earning him his unwavering pride. "Prince Vayne of House Solidor, however, appears to have some use for your kind," he gestures to his side with his left hand, an instruction for Dorin to follow him.

Dorin shook his head quietly before knocking his head back to drain as much of the mug as he could in a single draft, leaving the rest on the bar. "Then come," he said, gesturing forward with a raised hand for [member="Jegan Ekall"] to lead the way, "Let us be off to see what offers this Son of Solidor has to make."

Dorin cast his gaze about the room again, lingering on the tall Rakatan for a moment, before turning to look at the back of Jegan's head. Probably should start thinking about pricing for this gig. If the rest of the royal family was as.....snobbish as the good Lord Commander, Dorin would definitely be charging them extra. Of course, a well constructed family like this, it was likely going to be some kind of job securing an artifact. Nobles didn't usually do much in the way of beasts, and locating and returning a lost or wayward family member would usually call for more secrecy...

The approaching young princess caught The Archmage's attention, and she turned as Lunafreya approached. Madylina's steady emerald gaze glimmered at the younger Elzieri princess and her lips curled upward in a smile - Lunafreya had, in her younger years, been one of Madylina's students, and the two were rather close.

The Archmage looked from the princess to the man beside her whom she'd introduced as @Akabane. Lady Isurius seemed only a touch older in appearance than the Princess, eternally beautiful (like all Elzieri), but the Witch seemed to glow with eldritch power. "Good evening to you, Princess... and to you, Knight Akabane. It is delightful to see you both." She offered a smile to the Princess, offering her hand to the handsome young man who attended to the powerful Princess Solidor.

"As luck would have it, my dear, I typically do not... but tonight is a special occasion." Madylina's eyes shone with amusement. "His Majesty has great plans for the future, and I was bidden to attend... After all, who doesn't enjoy a good party, hmm?" She asked, eyeing both Akabane and Lunafreya with upraised brows.

Jegan led the Force Hunter in silence through the masses. He had recalled seeing the Prince of Solidor at one of the smaller tables; an odd choice, but not unexpected from him. Stepping up to the edge of the table the Lord-Commander steps to his side for Dorin to be presented. "Lord Vayne," he speaks, raising his hand slightly to gesture to the armourclad stranger "The Primarch has advised that you are to speak with this individual in regards to work." He lowers his hand and directs his full attention back to Vayne Solidor "this is Dorin Arkx; a 'Force Hunter', as he's described."

Dorin brought his right hand across his chest, blade of his palm resting against the breastplate with palm facing upwards, and bowed before Prince Vayne. Perhaps not a formal salute in the realm of the protectorate, but it was, at the least, a gesture of honor in his homeland.

"If I may, Your Highness, Master Hunter Dorin, of the house of Arkx, at your service. As your colleague has observed, I am a member of the Order of Force Hunters, an ancient order formed by the Lord of Blades nearly five millennia ago. Our numbers have diminished as result of the Vong Wars, yet we are still very much alive and well, if somewhat secluded from the rest of the galaxy."

Dorin offered Jegan a sidelong glance from under his visor. "It is my understanding you seek a contract with me."

For Vayne’s pleasure, it looked like he was being left alone for the time being. All those people that his father keeps sending to spy him… well, it was amusing sometimes, when he was not in a bad humor. The old man clearly didn’t trust him, Vayne never knew what he did that made his father act like this towards him, but at one point he simply stop care. As long as Iedolas restrain himself to spying, he was not doing any real harm. Not that Vayne could do anything to stop his father if he decided to interfere in his business. At least not officially.

Then, a voice that he knew too well distracted him from his thoughts. It was none other than Ragez Farrah himself. The old man didn’t had gray hair the last time he saw him, and he was growing fat, but he was still strong.

“Well, well.” Vayne said with a grin in his face. “If it isn’t the Robber Baron himself.”

The last time Vayne saw the man was at least 4 years ago. Back then, Ragez gained his wealth making deals with the scum of Kaikielius. Despite this, he was a good man and had the decency to hide his connection. Unlike his father, who likes to show for everyone that he is friends with criminals and murderers. Vayne had this connections too, of course, but such connections were best kept hidden unless the person had a powerful background to sustain himself.

“Then you don’t know me very well, my friend.” He answer the old old man with the hint of a smile on his face. “I'm a player, you should know this already.” And with a quick movement of his hand, he invited the man to sit with them.

Not too long after this, Vayne catched the movements of Lord Commander Jegan coming in his direction, followed by a man almost as tall as the prince himself.

“Lord-Commader.” Vayne said with a puzzled look on his face. The people besides him sharing the same expression under their masks. “My father…” Iedolas was sending man to him in public knowing that Vayne usually operates in the shadow. itc ould only mean one thing.

“A pleasure to meet you, Master Arkx. I can surely use a member of such a proud order.” He said as his expression assumed the habitual coldness. “The rest of you, out. And make sure that no one is listening” He was referring only to the nobles around him. The only one to stay was lord Ragez. “Please, take a sit if you both wish.”

Vork smiled at the newcomer as he finally was met by someone close to [member="Primarch Iedolas"]. "Pleasure to meet you Mar-quies Halim." He needed to get someone to remember all these new names he was dealing with as he followed the man. "Yes I wish to understand what was the nature of the deal between the Interstellar protectorate and the family? because I wasn't told much before being sent this way." He continued to follow the man noting he smelt like a clone and not like anyone else around. How interesting. Clones.

Dorin waved off the offer of a seat. "My thanks, but I do not intend to stay long. I will hear your offer, then I must depart. Your....associate," Dorin's gaze darted towards Jegan, "has not made the greatest of impressions. I hope your family's pockets are deep enough to compensate for this."

Dorin folded his arms over his chest again, gaze turning back to the Prince's companion for a brief moment, then to the Prince himself. "What sort of job did you have in mind, your highness?"

(To: @Vaulkhar)

Iedolas watched calmly as his daughter interacted with the Rakatan gentleman, someone he still needed to speak that night before his announcements. Smiling, he turned his gaze to the son of the Sith Emperor, famous were the Zambranos and probably the greatest royal bloodline of force users in the current galaxy that he knew of, the elzeri and vahla had very old lines themselves and much history that followed those proud and strong banners hanging in the walls of Enfer, but nothing like the Zambranos. Who knew the true extent of such power? Iedolas had no idea, but he could start guessing as his mind started to form a plan, a dangerous and smart plan like the best things in this life they shared in this wild, wild galaxy.

“And I am sure I can start guessing.”, Iedolas replied, his arms loose around his body, dressed in those white pearl clothes that the nobility of Kaikielius and other planets in the Tapani Sector were famous for wearing. Richly decorated, much like the buildings they had. “Much to discuss… indeed.”, he said slowly raising his arm and showing him the way to the stairs at the end of the great hall, two huge things made of ebony with the Suncryst Throne right in the middle. Calm and with his head high, Iedolas started to walk and talk at the same time. “It has to come to my attention, that your lordship has quite the reputation in the Empire. A impressive one for someone so young.”, he heard quite a lot about it when his steward gave him quite the lecture about the Zambranos and the things they had done so far in the galaxy. Horrible things, genocides and brutal conquests, but yet, filled with greatness and glory, one worthy to the tales about the first Galactic Empire and the Old Sith Empire that ruled the galaxy almost seven hundreds years ago led by Darth Krayt.

“Impressive deeds deserve the proper praise, we have came to terms with the First Order, our closest neighbors and we would like to do the same with your magnificent Empire. To expand our trade routes to Iridonia, Panatha and even beyond, to share our resources and good in a friendly relationship. Especially now with all this talk about this shadow of democracy called the New Republic.”, his words were bathed in honey, that old husky voice with the thick accent the elzeri had when speaking galactic basic instead of the ancient elzerish, or quendya as they call it in the mother tongue. He rarely spoke it with other elzeris, the vahlarin was the language the elzeri adopted as a day to day tongue. “Like I believe that a prince such as yourself is not bound to the same ambitions that suit a common male. Ambitions that I’m sure we can both achieve with a proper, beneficial, and mutual friendship.”, as he climbed the final steps and reach out the window at the top of the balcony, Iedolas looked over his Mensonge, the pride and joy of his ancestors, the first to settle and build the first stones of that city. “And to prove my resolve in such union…”, he said still looking at the city, “A offering must be made.”, a moment of silence took place, short but still heavy in the air. “A marriage, perhaps?”, his head slowly turned at his direction with a smile in his lean lips, “Yes. With the same beautiful creature you were gazing.”, his purple eyes looked his face with interest, “That would be my daughter, the Princess Ashelia B’nargin Solidor.”

The Marquis still smiled, nodding in his direction after they both introduced themselves. Odd it was for him to speak with a alien of such exotic accent, he reminded him of the kaleesh, yet, he looked fiercer and much more savage, he heard of a similar species somewhere deep in the Unknown Regions, one that his mother told the first Halim Ondore so long ago, to enough to make the hair on his back to stand up. Standing there looking at him and hearing about the deal between the Family and the Protectorate, Halim found himself once again thinking if such deal was going indeed to be as profitable as his master said, he did suggested about choosing the Hutts for that, but Iedolas was sure that the Hutt Cartel knew no boundaries and would respect no rules in this deal if it came to that.

“I apologize for that. I was to send a small document about that information to your lordship, but unfortunately the preparations for the ball made me lose track of time.”, around them, nobles passed laughing and smiling, some watching carefully the two of them as they talked. “I believe His Radiance, the Primarch spoke to a very friendly lady called Ivory. About a offer, to give all the underworld business to your organization, to arrest, dispose and replace the current small crime bosses in our space in Kaikielius and our moon's to give it all to the Family.”, he bowed with his head for a moment, a gesture that meant he was sorry. “I apologize."

“To you, I believe you are one of the ‘lietnaunts’ in the Family? I apologize for not being acquainted with the proper title. In any case… You, under the authority of the Family shall take over the underworld in our current and future planets, like Achilea and rule it as you please. Crime will always exist, His Majesty said, why not make crime your friend? Now the terms if I recall was that we shall provide you with all the spice you need, guns and ships, for a very small price, and the chance to smuggle your merchandise to many worlds we have access, those being territories in control of the Outer Rim Coalition, the First Order, and even to the Inner Rim if you want to be so bold. No slavery is allowed in Kaikielius, although we would not oppose if you took some ‘scum’ from our prisons and the future planets we add to our rule.”

“No one in your service will be charged, no one you bribe will be persecuted as long as no unnecessary deaths, abusive spice dealing in our borders and no slave sales inside Protectorate system. All of this, for a small 5% of the income, let us consider this as taxes. Your money does not need to be washed out, as we shall not persecute you all, usual taxes and interests like any government and a mutual friendship between our organizations. Like if we need help against future rebels or information hard to access, or even goods hard to acquire by legal means, we shall ask your favor in that.”

(To: [member="Dorin Arkx"], [member="Jegan Ekall"], [member="Prince Vayne Solidor"])

The Baron shrugged after that title the prince called him. His days doing shady deals were over, the Primarch himself approached him through the comlink telling him about the new deal with this so called ‘The Family’ that they were taking over any illegal activity in the Protectorate, he protested but not enough as Iedolas said he would see a share of the profits because of his plantations of spice to sell for this new distributors. His rich illegal business were done and Ragez was now in serious problems as the Royal Treasury was watching him, but he hoped that good things were going to come his way in the future, he was a Farrah and a Baron of the Farrah always had hope.

“Thank you, my prince.”, he said bowing once again, “I do believe this ball is quite impressive. Does your grace found anything to amuse you with?”, and as two others approached, Ragez could feel his face loosing all courage and grace. The sight of being around the Lord Commander of the Artirian Legion himself did that to someone with stuff to hide like he did, he hoped he did not had any idea about his illegal activities and simply bowed before the newcomer and the lord commander, saying that he had some stuff to do before leaving. Were those two going to be the ones he would deal after they left the ball to do the ‘thing’ his majesty asked him to do? Either way, Ragez was now worried.

Vork nodded, he really need to hire someone to work more with these people, learn names, titles and places. He listened as Ivory's name was mentioned "Ah yes underboss Ivory Stroud perhaps I should have called her to ask more about what the deal was but we are all busy and hardly ever meet as a group anymore." He said walking along with the marquis.

"You could call me one of the lieutenants, although many of my associates hardly see me and don't know my rank half the time anyways. So please don't try to use the title cause it's Caporegime or Capo for short hand." He listened to the rest of it. "So we get free reign over crime in your systems and you get a friendly group of criminals who won't mess your affairs."

He smiled for a second before saying "However I have heard word that a number of your people have plans on robbing a bank. Something that would be perhaps more of a affair for a criminal group as apposed to a group of highly respected members of galactic affairs. It is merely a question you are not required to answer if you deem so."

"So 5% of all dealings within your sector I can accept. 5% of my overall dealings everywhere is not acceptable, less so if it is the whole family's affairs. While also being able to call any favours, hmmm, I will tell you any favour you take I will ask for one back for the family considering you are going to be placing my section of the organisation at risk to attempt to find out about certain dealings. As for slavery The Family as a whole find it distasteful so there is no need to worry about that from us."

"However some of your criminals could be useful within our enterprise as long as I am able to do whatever I deem necessary to reform them. It would not be slavery just a form of reformation for them to realise what the consequences are on betraying us. If you find any of these changes unnecessary or disagree feel free to haggle me however if I find them not acceptable and you are unwilling to budge then I shall ask the other capos to assist with the dealings." Vork had learnt a fair bit from Ivory and The Donna on how to haggle people and get exactly what you want from the deal.

Rooz jumps at the sudden emergence of the man, but quickly composes himself. After looking the Lord over he nods to the question "Yeah, that's me. Good to meet you to, Lord Corona, uh, Bar...is...Ma," he stops halfway through, having forgot the entirety of what he considered an absurd name. "Lord Corona," he corrects and puts simply, dipping his large, covered head in an attempt at a more formal greeting "looking forward to hearing what this is all about."

After bumping in what seemed to be one of the gigantic statues her people had in the palace, Ashelia looked up. Such huge beast invited to the ball was something unusual, they had kaleesh priests and nobles running around speaking to other members of the high society, but whatever that thing was? That was something new, even by her father standards. A male that made her go to Korriban to capture terentateks and tuk’atas to bring them alive for his unknown experiments at InGen in Marea, but who was that male that stood in front of her eyes? Huge and clad in such strange armor?

“Why do you ask?”, she asked about his presumption of her being a princess. Her clothes weren’t that fancy for that, unless he was from a nation that saw this ordinary rags that she wore, as a symbol of power and influence. “I’m Ashelia.”, saying her name and bowing with her head in respect, a courtesy she learned while working for the Hutts not so long ago. “I believe the Primarch is around in here somewhere speaking to the other nobles.”, the palace was filled with all of them. Every noble from Kaikielius and all the planets in the Tapani Dominion, they all came to see this wonderful ball that Iedolas prepared for them and also, like her, to find out her intentions this time in Enfer.

“Speak for him? No, but I can try and help with whatever you may need. I also can take you to someone that will surely speak for the Primarch.”, she knew that his Steward or maybe his pet warlord were both somewhere around the great hall. Iedolas had his own inner circle of powerful and loyal subjects; his Steward the good Marquis Halim Ondore IV, the shady lord Corona Bartus Marian, his advisor, Vizier Albedo and a few others. Ashelia hated them all, except for the Marquis, because she knew they were rotten to the core the only question was, what about the alien in front of her.

“I believe you did not presented yourself.”, she was also about to ask him about the name of his species or where did he come from. This was a wild galaxy, huge and cold with species that she never even heard about it in her short life that she had, she hoped that someday she could meet more about this galaxy, to see a thousand planets before going to the 'deep slumber', the elzeri name had for death in the usual sermons made by the Church of the Word.

Tulkas moved away from the table of food a small plate at hand picking at the small assortment he had collected, stopping mid bite a knight made a quick approach towards Tulkas a look of annoyance on the knights face. Tulkas can only guess what he is annoyed about doing the small errands for any noble high or low would annoy any soldier really, he didn't become a knight to do such errands he probably considered himself to be better then this.

Releasing his words in a obvious angered tone "The Primarch is looking for you kid, better get going don't wanna keep him waiting." Tulkas nods to the knight in what was a silenced thanks to the man. As he moves away from the knight he drops the plate on the table as he looks around the large room for Iedolas, looking back to the knight the man raises his hand pointing Tulkas in the right direction.

Following the mans hand gesture Tulkas started to make his way dodging through the guests, upon his final approach he walks up to Iedolas looking down towards the ground avoiding eye. Tulkas wasn't sure why but he didn't like looking into the primarch's eyes it just didn't feel right to do so since they've met he has done it and he hasn't had any plans to change now.

Holding his stare towards Iedolas's feet he responded with a voice drench in a nervous tone "Yes sir you wanted to see me?" he stood patiently awaiting the primarch's response.
