Alderaan Initiative

Her adopted sister had resigned which Faith assumed that this now made her the Senior senator, she would make sure to ask her mother about a junior senator.

But there had long been something on Faith's mind and now she would make an attempt to bring it to the attention of the Senate.

Name of Bill: Alderaan Initiative

Content:

To rescue and relocate any citizens of Alderaan that can be, or wish to be removed from the planet.

To find a new home for the refugees of Alderaan.

To take back Alderaan

-----------------------------

She stood before the body of Senators remembering that she stood here for all of Alderaan.

While her mother was looking for allies, and her Aunt Rianna worked with resistance on Alderaan, Faith just knew that she needed to be the third prong on this effort. Even if they were to get Alderaan back right now the reports of the terraforming would take a great deal of effort and credits to remove. And even then while it would be the planet that bore the name Alderaan, would it be Alderaan without its manka cats, and thranta. Without the..Faith couldn't think on that. She had to be speak.

My fellow Senators, I stand before you today as a representative of a world that needs help. A world whose citizens cry out for help. I speak of course of Alderaan.

I know that it is always on the minds of all of how the Sith came in and stretched out their arm of influence taking Coruscant and Alderaan two focal points of the Republic, but we must not forget that there are still citizens on these worlds who long to be in Republic hands once again.

There are children without parents, and families without homes. I put forth before this body that we need to help the people of Alderaan.

What I see needing to be done has different paths -

1. We either need to make allies that can help take back Alderaan
2. We need to provide humanitarian aide to those displaced by the invasion or who want off the planet Alderaan, we need to rescue them.
3. We need to find a planet that can be a new Alderaan for the old Alderaan is ravaged.

I put this initiative before this body to determine what path the Republic can take.

Behind Faith images of what the sith had done to her home world flased, the vong terra forming, the destruction of the City of Aldera. The wondering homeless, the children standing in the middle of what was once their homes.

She realized now that this was more personal that legislative, and she knew she did not have the finesse that her sister had. but she hoped she could get the Republic to react, in some way. She didnt want them to forget her home.

"Senator [member="Faith Balor"]'s proposal is now open for debate. The floor is open for any and all senators who are wishing to speak at this time." Alena announced, as she glanced at Senator Balor. It was good to see the young senator stand up for her people.

"Due to the nature of the bill submitted, motions to move into voting procedure will be suspended until enough content is formulated for the initiative."

With that, Alena sat down, willing to let the Senate freely discuss different initiative possibilities. If no one stepped up to make a suggestion, she decided she would soon.

Persephone would mull over the passionate plea by [SIZE=13.63636302948px][member="Faith Balor"]. One could not fault the woman, it was her homeworld currently under One Sith rule, and from what word would have it, Vongformed into the Yuuzhan Vong's new paradise. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=13.63636302948px]Such an act, however, would require a distinct plan. A [/SIZE]definite[SIZE=13.63636302948px] plan. What has been presented really had no concrete focus other than laying out what the Junior Senator wanted or needed. These needs were already evident, what they required were actual proposals. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=13.63636302948px]"Junior Senator Balor, this Senate is well aware of what is needed. However, the solution is what must be brought forth as a refined propsoal. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=13.63636302948px]What is your solution to this?" Proposals to the senate were made with already defined bills. If this was to be a brainstorming session, it could have easily been done elsewhere and finalized before being brought to the Senate. [/SIZE]

She was the Senior Senator now that her sister had resigned.

"Senator Callas, I am presenting this bill with three options to help Alderaan, all require credits, all require support but not all require Republic forces. There are citizens who were off world and now cannot go home, there are refugees living on other worlds, and there are citizens still on Alderaan who want to leave. Will the Senate authorize the spending of credits to help them find a home, and get those that they can off Alderaan?"

Faith shifted she knew she was out of her league but she had to keep pushing forward.

"Will this Senate make a provision that allows for the Republic help to find a new home world for the citizens of Alderaan, will they spend credits from the budget for such an endeavor?" She knew this last item was, going to cause debate.

"Will the Republic go back and challenge the One Sith and try to remove them from Alderaan?"

She was hoping to get this out there right and it meant following rules, she was doing her best to do so.

"What will this Senate authorize, and support to help? I offer the three ways that I see are beneficial to everyone." She didn't say it out loud but she was thinking it, the last Queen when she had been asked about the defenses of Alderaan she had said not to worry they relied upon the Republic, Alderaan needed no defense.

What would that woman say now.

Faith looked to the Senator from Hapes hoping she answered the question.

Aurelia was not present at the debate. She was engaged with other matters. However, her junior Senator, a feckless relative named Dannos Saelari, would speak for her. It was her thoughts, but his mouth.

"Pylos is in agreement that the citizens of Alderaan should have a new home provided. Has the Senator of Alderaan got any suggestions of which worlds might be suitable?"

As for retaking it, Aurelia had ordered Dannos to say nothing on that. If she had her way the planet would be BDZ'ed to purge the Vong from it...but it would not be politic to say as much!

Faith looked over to Dannos Saelari, "The Queen is currently seeking one that would prove to be suitable" Faith did not mention the other parts that her mother had said.

That they would retake Alderaan even if it was for the symbolism it represented. She also did not mention what part of the galaxy her mother was looking in.

Alena had decided when she became Chief of the Senate that she would speak only to keep order and procedures in the Senate. Yet, it was becoming increasingly hard to follow through with such a decision with the dreadfully low activity from the senators.

"Finding places for the refugees of Alderaan to go to are not as important as finding ways to get people out, for those that want to get out of the planet. Do we send in rescue operations to get civilians out? Do we try to persuade the Sith to let civilians flee the planet? Do we go for a full-on assault on Alderaan to try and retake the planet? That, is the question I'd like to see answered."

[member="Alena Beswin"] | [member="Faith Balor"]

Since Aurelia was not present, matters were left to her stand-in. He had instructions to make no trenchant comments, but he figured himself something of a political genius. This shows that Dannos Saelari had the over-inflated ego of his family without the actual ability to make something a reality.

“I hardly think the Sith will just consent to let us remove the civilians. Vile creatures would rather use them as hostages, no doubt. I can’t see any deal with the Sith or rescue mission being helpful. We are better helping those who already escaped and to leave those on Alderaan until a later time.”

Peresphone would wait until the other questions had been answered. Her focus was on going from top to bottom. From the first objective and then move the way down.

1. Will this Senate make a provision that allows for the Republic help to find a new home world for the citizens of Alderaan, will they spend credits from the budget for such an endeavor?

Her fingers would tap against the podium in front of her.

"What are the options for a new home?" it was one thing to find a new home, another if it was already occupied. That meant more diplomacy.

Faith had looked down at her messages and she knew her sister [member="Alyesa Praxom-Organa'] was going to make an appearance perhaps she had word from their mother. She did not want to appear indecisive.

Her gaze switched from the messages back to the Senators around her. "[COLOR=#40e0d0]Until The Queen has chosen it is unknown, I know she would prefer a place that is of similarities to Alderaan, but we also know that there are few that are like Alderaan. Before I was born my mother was stranded on a planet that is not far from Corellia, she looks to see if it is still uninhabited, and to see if it is within Republic territory[/COLOR]."

Faith knew in her heart that a new home was temporary, she knew that her mother wanted Alderaan back, but allies were needed for such a thing. So this temporary home would do well to get the citizens together, to build toward that.

And given how far the Sith had already come into Republic space there was no place that was safe.

"[COLOR=#40e0d0]I can convey to the High Council, and the Queen what the Republic is prepared to do. Or no prepared to do, that will I'm sure influence the decisions made[/COLOR]" yes it would.

Vaudin who normally was about as interested in politics as he was in prison time sat listening quietly as the other senators said their peice and asked their questions. Alderaan had been a center and symbol of peace for thousands of years and he couldn't imagine writing it off now. It stood to reason the refugees needed homes but the people still on Alderaan were living in a hell that the rest could only imagine. No matter how the cards got cut this was bad for everyone of them.

"Those people still on world are republic citizens in danger and as such should be priority one." He said finally, "a new world to inhabit is important but those people are safe for now. We should organize a way to get people off Alderaan first then find a place for the refugees until Alderaan can be re-taken."

He tapped his finger on his seat's arm rest.

"That's what anyone in this room would want for their own people."

[member="Faith Balor"] [member="Persephone Callas"] [member="Aurelia Saelari"]

"I stand with Senator [member="Vaudin Miir"] on the matter of the Republic citizens in Alderaan being priority number one. Senator Saelari, while I understand the reasoning behind your argument, 'leave those on Alderaan until a later time' is something I highly discourage we do."

"I believe no matter how difficult, impossible, or dangerous, we must find a way to evacuate those who wish to leave Alderaan. People of Alderaan are essentially citizens of the Republic are they not? They are simply citizens that the Republic has failed to properly protect. Think for a moment... do you really think that the Sith will be leaving the civilians alone? We are condemning them to death if we continue to leave them there to rot away on that vongformed planet!"

[member="Alena Beswin"] | [member="Faith Balor"] | [member="Vaudin Miir"]

Dannos Saelari bridled at the words and stood up in a pose familiar of his cousin; the 'I'm about to lecture you' pose.

“It is not by choice I say this, Chiefess Beswin, and I resent the implications that I am wilfully condemning the people of Alderaan. Rather, I am discussing the issue of practicality. The One Sith have shown themselves to be psychopathic monsters. No diplomacy is going to get potential hostages out of their grip. And were we to attack Alderaan does anyone have a plan for gathering up millions of civilians and evacuating them from a warzone?”

He stood there smugly. “It’s all very well to beat the patriotic drum, but unless you’ve got solutions you’re actually making the situation worse by giving them false hope.”

What a charming fellow Mr Saelari was.

[member="Faith Balor"] [member="Aurelia Saelari"] [member="Vaudin Miir"]

"Well alright." Alena responded, as she sat back down.

"So we seem to have ruled out diplomacy as an option. The question now would be, is this Senate willing to come up with solutions, as Senator Saelari pointed out, to evacuate millions of civilians from the warzone?" From what Alena could tell, Dannos Saelari was quite similar Aurelia Saelari in many respects. Not necessarily in ways that she liked she realized with a frown.

[member="Aurelia Saelari"] [member="Alena Beswin"] [member="Vaudin Miir"]

It was almost clear that anyone left on Alderaan was quite possibly going to be left there. "Let us find out what the status is on Alderaan, there are resistance there that could help" Her brother was there somewhere.

She appreciated the words of everyone present and their candor but how would they feel if it were their home. She knew they would be doing whatever they could to secure the freedom of their home and its citizens.

"There may be ships there that can be used to aide in taking citizens away" There were nobles with ships would could help. Who were waiting for help.

Caid was not from a Republic world, so he had no representative to work through or converse with. He was, however, present at the current session largely out of curiosity. Having been notified by his own aides that the discussion of a proposal by Alderaan was on the floor for the day, he'd elected to observe quietly. Gazing down at the Senate as they deliberated, the Grand Admiral found himself a bit miffed by the stolid nature of the discussion.

How was it that people had not come forward with requests for evacuation...when the Republic was actually conducting an evacuation of Alderaan? How many people were they even talking about still remaining because he was pretty sure both slaughters of Alderaan had left little and less intact. The literal procedure of extracting civilians probably would not even be completely a military one. That was too obvious, blunt. Those that actually reached the ground would, no doubt, be from other areas of the Republic's infrastructure.

Evacuation of Alderaan wouldn't be possible by military means, at least not completely. The gathering of the people in one area for extraction and moving in with large enough ships to remove them all would draw a great deal of attention and that was not in the best interest of the people. Vaudin tossed around the idea of smuggling in weapons and equipment designed to fight the yuuzhan vong and smuggling out those that weren't part of the resistance on the trip out. At the same time they could gather intelligence on the Sith infrastructure on the planet. It was possible, hard as hell to pull off, but possible.

"We could potentially find a way to smuggle people out. A combination of stealth technology and just plain lying may be able to get the few survivors off world. It's risky buy it could work."

Alyesa emerged from the shadows and stepped onto a vacant pod, her hands clasped before her as she listened to the discussions back and forth about her planet. A slender eyebrow would raise as the proposal of [member="Vaudin Miir"] came across her ears. For a moment she felt she shouldn't speak but then something in the pit of her stomach caused her voice to rise up and gesture towards [member="Faith Balor"], her sister.

"I speak with the Junior Senator in this initiative but I also speak on behalf of Incom Corporation, a supplier of several designs of ships for the Galactic Republic." She paused while the commotion around the Senate chambers settled. It had been a good while since Alyesa had made a public appearance - mostly for personal reasons. She saw the failure at Alderaan to be a personal one and perhaps even a stab at her record in many ways.

The One Sith had taken the wind out of her sails, but only temporarily it would seem. “Incom Corporation designed a transport known as the Aegis, we have the ability to make them similar to the XJ-7 series, however, it is costly.” She sighed softly. “The current number in operation is not public, but it’s enough to begin evacuation operations underneath the nose of the One Sith.” She made a few small hand gestures. “If I am correct, a small scale operation could relocate all of the stranded civilians on Alderaan within a few days’ time and cost the Republic very little in terms of personnel and credits.” She allowed the last sentence to hang in the air for a moment, perhaps appealing to the pocket would aide in this cause.

Faith looked over to her sister, it was about time she showed up. She looked down and smiled nodding at just how much her sister could still make people stand up and take notice of her. Ever since her mother had adopted her she had been so.

Alyesa most certainly possessed the skills of Leia in her manner and speech. Faith picked her head up, and then looking over at Senator Mir, she could only mouth the words thank you.

This was good, they could at the very least get those off Alderaan that wanted to go.

"What does the Republic say now?"
