- Quickness and Mobility: The AT-A/RW was designed to be a quick hit-and-run walker, moving swiftly across the battlefield to engage targets and dart out of danger when the enemy was too strong.
- Troop Support: Alone the AT-A/RW is powerful, but its true strength lies with the synergy it produces when coupled with the rank and file soldiers of the Ascendancy. Together, man and machine are an inseparable team and can work together to overcome the odds.
- Allergic to Missiles: The walker's head is the largest target for enemy combatants, and one good square shot or a couple repeated hits with missile launchers can crack it like an egg.
- Weak Legs: Like its bigger brother, the AT-PAT, the AT-A/RW's legs can be used against it. While generally stable on most terrain, it has been known to lose its footing on uneven terrain and can be taken down by forcing the walker to trip.
Designed and constructed alongside its larger counterpart, the AT-PAT, the All Terrain Assault/Reconnaissance Walker is a vehicle of war created to supplement conventional flesh-and-blood army groups that was light, heavily armed, and able to trek across various environments. Armed with two pairs of medium blaster cannons, the AT-A/RW can make quick work of enemy troops and small vehicles with ease. Its mobility allows it to rush across the battlefield and reinforce wavering positions and drive back the enemy.
The walker can also serve in a police role as a patrol vehicle on already conquered Ascendancy worlds. Such walkers are typically outfitted with spotlights and painted in the colors of the regional garrisons to denote their purpose.
Both the AT-A/RW and AT-PAT are part of a campaign to fill in the missing gaps of the rising Ascendant Military as they bring Imperial order to more and more systems.
