Alternative Lightsaber Techniques!

A large amount of EU (aka "Legends," and my eyes roll) content is largely just fanon or ascended fanon. Often, stuff that's legitimately written about will have much less available information and be less developed as a concept/character/species/planet/whatever than things that have been readily backed by the community. The thing is, it was all EU before, and it's all Legends now. Equally canon in the sense of diehard movie fanatics, and equally canon for our purposes as free-writing RPers.

It's "recognized" in that it's been used and is familiar to long-time fans of the setting, it has its own distinct attributes that have not changed radically over time, and it's a reasonable inclusion that fits well into the established universe. The wookiee page helps, but it's not the core reason. "Using the unique ability of a lightsaber to turn on and off" is harder to write than "trakata," which (along with being a part of the EU/Legends canon for years) makes sense conceptually. Lightsabers are unique, so why wouldn't someone make a martial art to take advantage of that uniqueness?

As far as being used in canon, it is not really named as such, but there are examples of Trakata being used - it's not so much a style of combat as a method. One can use Ataru, for example, while also making use of Trakata, while not changing the over-all flow of techniques and strikes like one would with Ataru and Niman or Makashi.

I believe in the listing of Saber combat, that it points out that Trakata is an application used and not a full fledged form. The only reason I can come up with why it is not a full form, is that it doesn't have a whole list of fancy moves (Like all this right hur) and still considered somewhat of a form because you need somewhat of a specialized training to use it. I mean, you aren't going to use it right off the bat, and to have the ability to time your attacks just right to turn it off, then turn it back on, you need some practice.
