Among the Tall Trees (FWC, SJO)

Jessica had the same idea as [member="Ronin Wendigo"] . She was indeed curious as to who these new visitors were to their fragile new home. So she walked up beside Ronin and gave him a slight nod.

"Ronin." She smiled.

Most importantly. Matthews wanted to see how the Grandmaster introduced their new temple and home to outsiders. Glean some idea of how the SJO was presenting itself to the galaxy these days. Be a fly on the wall. So to speak.

So she stood back and watched the audience quietly.

It only took seconds for the Elder Kashi to recognize one of his own people. [member="Ronin Wendigo"] even had strong physical similarities to his father. Yes this was the child of one of Garith oldest friends. He noticed this, as he reminded silent for now.

Beskar plate boots rhythmically thumped across Kashyyk soil. The light of its sun reveled just how much of the landscape had changed since the last time Garith was here. The galaxy had changed. Garith had changed, to a degree. Faces had changed but the galaxy was still struggling in a never ending war. Politics may have slightly changed. It may have changed here with a group of Jedi, well maybe the perspective from Garith’s point of view.

Talk casually then move into discussions? Garith listened to his daughter [member="Faith Organa"] and [member="Valae Kitra"]. His daughter already asked him to play nice and smile. He was not smiling. His stern expression may not seem very welcoming. Now this Jedi Grand Master asked him to talk casually?
Did they really wish him to speak his mind freely? He would have anyways. Garith had never bowed to anyone.

Pleasantries were still continuing. [member="Camellia Swift"] gave hers to the Silver Jedi and so did [member="Andulf Nicholas Teraan"].

Garith had looked over the crowd that was with Valae. There was an older man wearing an eye patch. He seemed seasoned but he did not know the man.

[member="Aidan Moonrunner"].

There was also a blond who had recently walked up and stood next to Ronin. [member="Jessica Matthews"].

Garith eyes fell back onto Valae. “I’ve seen you before”, Garith’s deep gruff voice almost sounded accusing. “You were on Alderaan at a lecture on the art of war. I also recognize your name now to. I heard it in passing. My son Garith was speaking to his mother Adrianna. You’re a healer and gardener like Rianna.”
Garith paused a moment after saying this. Maybe he was rethinking something. “Both of my sons have been welcomed here as well as my daughter.”

Garith pointed over to Ronin, “You’ve welcomed other Kashi here as well. A young man who is a son to a man I once knew.”
Garith lowered his hand. There was no need to point anymore.

“I’ve walked alone for a long time. I’ve bowed to no one. Times change, my species was nearly extinct. There is hope though. There is a new generation. I’ve been learning to set aside my rage and hate over the reasons of the destruction of my people. You have welcomed my people here”, Garith sighed. This was not easy for him. The Jedi was reasonable for the destruction of the planet Kashi. It was the far distant past but Garith remembered. Now he had to learn to forgive so his people could live.

“I’m willing to talk with you today. I do not know what this talk will bring. As always I walk alone. What my children decided is their own path.” Maybe his war with the Jedi was finally over?

And so it was with attention somewhat briefly distracted by the proceedings that she then seem walked up from behind of him. Then come to stand behind him and turning briefly towards his direction and give him a slight nod as she then spoke.

"Ronin."

To which with a smile then a slight nod as well towards her direction and passingly was about say something to her. When he hears the stranger in the Mandalorian Armor speak and mention a name that sounded somewhat familiar. As if he'd heard it once before but just couldn't quite place where at that time and committed it to memory instead of further inquiry later on when.

“You’ve welcomed other Kashi here as well. A young man who is a son to a man I once knew.”

The Said stranger came to add and seem appear to know of him and his father heritage that all but added to his curiosity as well interest in speaking with him as time permitted it. For it seems however much he tried Ronin found in his quest to unlock his farther past and heritage. Was not only hard at the very least seem near impossible as there were no actual written records of them and what bit he could find was of second-hand accounts noted by those few that were able to make contact with the few Kashi left. And even then they were not nearly as complete as he'd hoped to get a chance meet one who by a stroke of sheer luck or fate? Had to know or met his own father was above else very interesting indeed he thought to himself.

Salmakk drifted around the Silver Refuge, idly observing the proceedings with a mixture of curiosity and anxiety. He found social functions with dignitaries an uncomfortable affair, even he if found the peoples and the cultures themselves fascinating. Yet Gir was off gallivanting across the galaxy after painstakingly consolidating the Directorate's political sway on Hast. The mon calamari leaned up against one of the walls. He probably can't keep himself on solid ground for an hour right now. A slow smile curled up on his lips. As much as he loved his adopted brother, the human had some eccentricities that he would never understand. I guess I can fill in for him this one time...

The mon calamari slowly turned his gaze across the room, keeping an eye out for his contact, one [member="Rozalyne Kurganova"]. He pulled out a small silver flask from a jumpsuit pocket and took a swig of almost fermented C-tea. If he had any travel fatigue before, it quickly evaporated from the intense amount of caf distilled in the drink. He shuddered as the last drops slid down his throat. He managed to fumble the canteen in his flippered hands before putting it away on his utility belt. Now I just have to wait.

Valae was interested to learn that the intimidating figure next to [member="Faith Organa"] was none other than her father. Nevertheless, she Grandmaster offered the man a respectful nod of her head. A smile found her when the Queen mentioned their trip to Voss, she was honored that she remembered. Back then, Arisa had been Grandmaster and Valae had simply been a member of their welcoming party. My, how things had changed.

“Very well, Faith – and please call me Valae.” She said in a light-hearted tone, she would be thankful to drop the formalities, even if only for a little while.

Turning to Count [member="Andulf Nicholas Teraan"], she smiled. “Thank you very much for the kind words. And it is very nice to see you again as well.” She glanced to [member="Camellia Swift"], and smiled. “A pleasure.”

As some were now moving to sit down, Valae prepared a few cups of tea and set them out for any that might want to partake. She lifted a teacup for herself, and took a small whiff of the pleasantly minty aroma. Finding a seat near Faith, she took a sip of the comforting brew, and then looked up as [member="Garith Darkhold"] spoke.

“Ah, yes… that’s right, I was there on Alderaan.” She said with a nod. “Your son was also present to assist us on Ossus, as I understand it.” She said, recalling the events of that night. “We were grateful for his help.” It was very true.

The Grandmaster paused to take a sip of tea. It was interesting that he mentioned Rianna, this name was familiar from a conversation she’d had some time ago with [member="Josh DragonsFlame"]. For a moment she wondered if this woman was one and the same. However, this was probably a topic of conversation for another time.

“I can assure you,” She glanced back up Garith. “We are very pleased to be able to speak with all of you today; after all, we are bound to be neighbors here in the core.”

[member="Jessica Matthews"], [member="Ronin Wendigo"], [member="Rozalyne Kurganova"], [member="Salmakk"]

It wasn't hard to see that the Grandmaster was a bit taken aback to learn that the tall scary looking guy next to her was her father. If she only knew the half of it. Faith nodded and smiled even as her mind worked out scenarios. Please let her father not do something that started...a war. She closed her eyes for a moment as said a little prayer to whomever was listening.

Then she opened them back up, "Thank you Valae. My brother Garith was on Ossus." He had failed to mention that but then she didn't really expect that he tell her everything that happened right. But. thinking on him made her think of Theo, "Valae is it possible that my brother Theodosius is among your order?" She hadn't seen him in forever and the last time she thought she felt him near her she had been so tied up with her duties that she left Draco to find out, but nothing had come of it.

Tia she had to remember to ask about Tia's interns had the Silvers seen them?

Tea, Faith took a cup of tea. "I love tea. We have a wonderful blend on Alderaan." She wasn't trying to change the subject, "Yes we neighbors and we would like to be good neighbors to Silvers." She took a small sip letting the warmth of the tea soak up any of her anxiety. "Is the order settling in ok here on Kashyyyk?"

She had heard only horror stories and the lingering memory of a holo watching Draco fall .

Now that everyone seemed to be taking their seats and finishing introductions, Camellia wondered where the conversations would actually begin and go from here. Personally she simply wanted to try and make sure that business with the Silver Jedi wasn't cut off now that they had changed their location. The Rendili woman felt she was truly behind to not have heard the news, although she was curious as to the nature of why the Silver Jedi were moving their area of operation. Hopefully it would be something that came up in conversation before the meeting of new neighbors was over. It didn't appear as if she would have to wait that long for the topic to be brought up, as Faith Organa asked the question herself. "I was curious about that as well. Did something come up back on Voss to prompt the Silver Jedi Order to find a new place to set up their Temples?"

It then seemed thankful this time around he'd seem had slipped under the notice by the elder [member="Garith Darkhold"] for some odd reason like the last time. And that instead his presence had been acknowledged as it was replied back by the Jedi instead who turn smiled at him.

“Thank you very much for the kind words. And it is very nice to see you again as well.”

To which he with a respectful bow as he recalled was the custom of the Jedi tas a show of respect. At which time he then not wanting to overstep his bound thought keep with the royal protocol that he kept his inquiry back for now. Take one the tea offered and take few sip of it and biding his time Letting her highness initiate the talks before casually speaking up as he did to interject his own question regarding the matter.

" Indeed have to say from the looks of things is the structure that makes up this Temple. Brought in here thus far whole or partial structure brought here over from Voss?" And given the current events or reports I gather is this move connected to the recent independence of Voss?"

It had been maybe eighteen standard minutes since Garith had his last drink of Corellian Whiskey? If Adrianna was here maybe she would have made sure the cranky old Mandalorian Sith Lord boozed it up. She was not here though and he had not had a drink.

The Kashi Elder seemed less tolerant of others when he had not been drinking.

He looked back and forth to [member="Faith Organa"] and [member="Valae Kitra"]. They were just smiling and continuing on with their….whatever it was. It should not have, but it did bother him. To them what Garith said had less meaning because they just did not know how hard this was for him. Just because it was ignorance did not mean it did not anger him.

Yes the logical course of action, it was to be allies with the Silver Jedi to protect his descendants. Their enemies moved even now to wipe the last of the Kashi from existence.

The madness within Garith said otherwise. There was still a great deal of anger and pain within him. There was the loss of his parents and his people and the continuation of the war of imbalance for centuries.

The name of Darkhold may have faded to obscurity. The Jedi may have forgotten his name but he had not forgotten the past.
This very madness fought with the very logic he knew to be. The pleasantries they spoke felt empty as he heard them. There was only the darkness that kept him bitter all these years.

He had not sat down nor had he taken a cup of tea.

The Elder Kashi then spoken giving a little too much honesty.

“I am not pleased to be here in this room”, the venom in his words were unmistakable. The pain in his voice could be heard, the very loss of his people…

“Today is not an easy day for me”, his voice cracked from sorrow. The loss still felt raw to the Elder.

“How can I still blame a generation of people for their ancestors’ mistakes” Garith continued giving a speech he had not planned on giving. While his mind working through the pain and his surroundings.

“I admit you were not there Valae Kitra, Grand Master of the Silver Jedi”, it was the truth. She was not there. It was the past that hunted Garith, not these Jedi here. They were innocent of the crime Garith spoke of.

“Nor was any of the Jedi here responsible for the crimes of one person thirty thousand years ago”, he was trying. It maybe too late as he might have destroyed any possible friendship here that could help defend the Kashi.

Garith rubbed his right hand from forehead backwards across his hair. “I’ve been learning to let go of this for a greater truth. The greater truth being the Kashi people are not gone. They’re still here. They need me to be rational and think not about myself but for them. Part of this greater truth is their existence is threatened, threatened by the same people who threaten the Silver Jedi. For this I can learn to be a good neighbor, maybe. That is if the Silver Jedi is willing to try to be friends with me.”
To Garith this was a huge moment. He had lived with this pain for thirty thousand years. For most of that time he felt he only had vengeance. To make those he felt responsible suffer as he had. After having children he had seen he could have more. He had hope. That path was not a easy one as he had lived in darkness for so long.

After taking another sip of tea, Valae set the cup back down on the saucer. She glanced thoughtfully at Faith as she mentioned her brother, Theodosius. Searching her memories, she could not recall ever meeting anyone with that name before.

“I’m sorry, Faith…” She started, “I haven’t met him before, but that doesn’t mean he’s not around. I’ll get the word out.” Valae added with an encouraging smile. “We are settling in just fine, it seems. Now that the temple is complete, things really seem to be coming together.”

The Grandmaster’s attention shifted to Camellia and Count Teraan. No doubt, there was quite a lot of curiosity surrounding Voss. After all, the Silvers had been stationed there for so long.

“The decision to leave Voss was one that we weighed heavily for some time,” She nodded; it had not been a snap decision by any means. “Voss was quite the beacon of light for that sector – we recognized that it was time to spread the light to other worlds. And you are right, Count Teraan -- the Voss were ready to take over once more. It was time for a change; the Order is growing and changing as well. We hoped to forge new bonds here in the core,” Glancing to her companions, she smiled. “Bonds just like this one.”

But the deep voice of Garith drew her attention next. The displeasure he felt at being in the room could easily be felt. Valae’s heart gave a small leap, but she remained calm – at least, on the outside. Indeed it could be difficult to let go of the past, especially when it held painful memories. It seemed that the intimidating man was working through this dilemma. But time had a way of changing things.

Standing slowly, she closed the gap between her and Garith.

“The Silver Jedi are willing to try,” She said, gently extending her hand for him to shake. “Make no mistake; we do not aim to be the aggressors. In fact, while I cannot promise there will not be conflicts in the future, I can assure you that we will not be going on the opposition any time soon. As we start new here on Kashyyyk, we only wish to defend our people – just as you wish to do for your own.”

These newcomers seemed curious and wise in their own way. Jessica smiled as the conversation took a more casual flavor. It was easy for her to simply stand by and watch as Valae did what all Grandmaster did so well. Be the guiding light for their members.

She gave a nod to Ronin and turned to leave. Matthews had heard enough already. No need to take up space when it wasn't needed. Well... More like, Valae didn't need any help with the diplomancy. Hehe. Things were going smoothly. Just the way she liked it.

Some topics were not meant to be easy she nodded disappointed that [member="Valae Kitra"] had not seen Theo. She looked again to her father he had not pointed her in a wrong direction Theo had been among the Silvers. But where was he now? She was truly tired of her family disappearing, truly sad that they were constantly ripped from her side at the galaxy's whim.

She could not wallow in her own despair there were others that needed her. She put on a smile and listened to [member="Andulf Nicholas Teraan"] and [member="Camellia Swift"] ask the questions that she had held back. The answer did not surprise her. Why she couldn't say perhaps because she was accustomed to change. "Voss was beautiful a lot like Kashyyyk the trees are different though." It was a minor observation.

Tension grew as her father spoke she knew about his anger at the Jedi for allowing his family to be destroyed so long ago. Hard to imagine her father such a relic . But he had a perspective that perhaps would be helpful to all of them at some point. He had seen the changes in the galaxy the rise and fall his knowledge of those times could teach them all about rising threats now.

She smiled when Valae offered her hand to him, would he take it? Surely he would, Right?

She held her breath waiting everything hinged now on this moment, on her father and his reaction. "Father" she whispered. Was it enough that the Jedi of today offered him their friendship? Would it help to mend the wounds from long ago? [member="Garith Darkhold"]

It was then that when all was said and done that for some reason that words of one that he passingly overheard been call father by one called Faith. Seem somehow struck him so as in a way part he understood his pain knowing what bit he knew now of his own past that. Seem without hesitation he comes forward to speak them.

"Indeed it seems that whichever the case might be the heavy cloud of each of our own father or forefathers linger. And as much is true that it can not be undone its lesson I would think will be something we can care about to guide or learn from as we face the future."

And then he pauses turn towards Faith continued on speaking.

"..and have to say though it was at best brief I've met once before with each of them. Garith and Theo I believe their names were....and rest assure I will do well as Master [member="Valae Kitra"] said inform them of your coming as well reach out to let you know when I do come across them yet again. "

Then walk over towards Garith he then adds.

" And indeed what you say is true....though there are so very few left the Kashi people are not gone. That they live in each of us that still live and will continue to live."

While the answer wasn't to her disliking, Camellia couldn't say she was satisfied with a simplified version of what prompted the Silver Jedi to relocate from Voss even if it possibly was the truth. It was her own fault not keeping up to date to begin with, seeing as the various power plays had caused Rendili Stardrive to allow the Outer Rim shipyards in that region more autonomy she had been content with not having to personally deal with every issue since those facilities had become more capable of handling their own issues without constant supervision. A call to the chief staff once she returned to Rendili could hopefully give her a better picture to sate her curiosity so she didn't seem too nosy here. "Defending your people is a more than reasonable expectation. Should the Silver Jedi wish to ever extend their contracts with Rendili Stardrive we're open to the idea, and I see no reason for the previous Grandmaster's contracts to be voided either, though given the move I ask forgiveness in delays in transportation. Unlike Voss we have no yards above Kashyyyk so if you do seek new contracts or request appropriate ships through the existing ones, it will take time for them to arrive from Rendili or Humbarine."

It had suddenly gotten very quiet had her father's words created a gap between the SJO and FWC. Possible.

"Perhaps we should discuss how the FWC and SJO can help one another." She smiled as she looked at [member="Camellia Swift"] and Count Teraan.

She looked to the Grand Master [member="Valae Kitra"] . "Would you agree?"

She knew her father was on a path sometimes though she wished his path wasn't so...direct.

Glancing to Camellia, Valae could tell that her brief explanation hadn’t quite done the trick. For now, it would have to do though. Perhaps another time she could offer more details, but this was not the time. She did smile at the offer to work with Rendili Stardrive.

“Thank you, Miss Swift.” She said, nodding. “We may have some work for Rendili yet, you’re welcome to speak with me another time to discuss further.”

She was thankful that Ronin was willing to pass the world along concerning Faith’s missing brother. He was well connected and knew many about the temple; perhaps he would meet someone that knew more. As Faith spoke up, Valae offered a smile to the Queen.

“Certainly,” She stood up from her seat, “Follow me this way to the conference room.”

Leaving behind the more casual setting of the main hall, the group journeyed through the serene space of Silver Rest. The Grandmaster motioned for their party to enter the room, where there was a large table and holoprojector. Valae motioned for the Queen to take the seat at the head of the table, and she took the one nearest on Faith’s right. Once everyone was ready, she began.

“As I mentioned before, we’ve no intentions to go on the attack anytime soon. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t hesitate to defend our people – or assist allies when called for.” With the troubled times the galaxy faced, it was difficult to tell what was waiting down the line for them. “At the very least, we would be very happy to make a pact of non-aggression between the Silver Jedi and the Coalition.”

Valae paused for a brief moment, and glanced to Faith.

“However, I am open to a stronger alliance – one that sees us helping each other in times of need.”

It was then that after reply back to Gartith and the Delegation from the royal house of Alderaan in the hopes of belaying or the very least ease out some the seem old tension between the elder Garith and the order. Or which at best at that time he was bound to in a way thought part of him could help not ignore the facts of the recent revelation or events. That the same sense the longing within him to reconnect with parts of his ancestral roots to which he could best fathom lay somehow with those within the Alderaan current royal house. At which time as the discussion soon moved amongst the other present as did the location of the meet from the more information to the more formal setting of one the inner room.

That he for a moment figured to keep silent and listen in on the proceeding of which the talk of forming the nonaggression pact no less peek his interest. Knowing all too well if such pack could be foster that it could not only be beneficial to both sides as it were to some extent his own agenda. Given as Garith had spoken out earlier with there being so few of them now and given the dark danger lurking that he had yet to unravel. Secure the cooperation or assistance of the elder Gartih could prove quite beneficial.

Everything that the Grandmaster said was what the Coalition wanted to hear, protection of people, aiding allies, and topped off with a non aggression pact. She smiled, "We can agree with all of that. The Coalition does not seek to expand their cloud of influence. We have at times gone to worlds that have invited us. We are not an invasion force. We are small compare to many but it would be naive on our part to think that at some point invasion will come from the outside. Having allies, would help a great deal."

Faith looked to those with her and knew that they each possessed a long history that had affected their points of view. She turned again to face the Grandmaster perhaps even Jedi had been harmed in ways that had affected them too.

"I will have to call for a meeting of the Assembly for there to be something stronger than non aggression. Perhaps that would be a good time for a small contingent to come to Alderaan to hear the possess, discussion on the vote." She smiled. "Would that be agreeable?"

She had one other request but first the status of their relationship had to be discussed.

Valae gave the Queen an amiable smile, pleased to hear that they would accept the pact of non-aggression. With their close proximity, it was certainly a relief to know that they had a friendly neighbor. While the Silver Jedi were steadily working to build a solid foundation here near their new home on Kashyyyk, they were not looking to encroach upon Coalition space.

“Very agreeable, indeed.” She said, nodding respectfully to Faith.

Their last trip to Alderaan had been a success; the Silver Jedi had enjoyed the hospitality shown to them as they toured the Light of Ashla. The thought of returning to the Queen’s world was nice, she had to admit. Of course, she didn’t expect that they would leave her today as full-blown allies – but this was a very good first step. Valae did hope that this would work to keep their relationship with Alderaan on a good note.

“Of course, we would be willing to meet with you and your council on Alderaan.” Her smile grew, “In fact, I’ve been looking for a reason to visit again. And I meant to mention,” She paused for a moment, “Adjacent to Onderon, in our space – we have been working to renovate Torn Station. Please feel free to have Coalition forces stop there as needed for supplies, trade, or refueling.”
