An open letter to the factory

Trying to be straight in a crooked Galaxy
Earlier today a leak from the factory was made about the decision to restrict or ban Ysalamir on Chaos. I for one feel directly responsible for this in more ways than one. Producing Ysalamir on a minor scale and planning on giving them away like a bowl of candy on Halloween to NFUs to help them be taken more seriously by force users and leveling the playing field for everyone. I also feel responsible for putting that information out on the board via one of my submissions, and for all of the above I profusely apologize. However I want to state something for the factory and any people who make the choices on restricting items, and I am not saying this because my company owns the largest Ysalamir production other than the mandos.

You are making a mistake.

With all things that can be abused the choice to restrict Ysalamir might be made from fear of what could happen. I don't know the details, I don't know how long this has been on the chopping block, but how this is being handled internally is not only unfair to members of factory staff, but to members of the board as a whole. So if there's some kind of huge deal going on if you are going to pull somebodies factory privileges, or ban somebody from the site, then ban me. I see this completely as my own fault for even cloning the damn things in the first place and it's not worth all the trouble and heartache. So with that in mind I urge both members of staff and members of chaos to take a step back from this situation and view it for how trivial and small it is and I guarantee we'll have a laugh about it and all feel better in the morning. Or not, or just do the opposite. Really it's up to you. Thank you Chaos staff team for providing this unique and wonderful service, and thank you members of chaos for fueling it with your imaginations. Be safe and may the force be with you.

inb4 the whole of the Mandalorian faction explodes. Because #ForceGods

Edit: On a serious note, I will say this. Let them ban it. Let them see how poor a decision it would be, how badly it turns out and how many people will complain about the tilt in balance against FUs. Because I'm 99% sure it's never going to last long, especially with peoples' already skewed view on the balance between NFU and FU.

Considering a major galactic power was at one point capable of outfitting relatively significant numbers of troops with it through minimal expenditure, I'd say it's not something that should likely be banned.

Said major power also previously produced 2 death stars, 4 other superweapons and at least a dozen super star destroyers - none of which are allowed here.

The Factory Admin and Judges will make the decision they feel is necessary for the balance and stability of the RPing experience here, not one dependant on previous canon precedent.

That's all I have to say on the matter.

I heard about the possible discussion (this morning before work and haven't had a chance to respond), but I think you're privy to information that I haven't even heard of as the factory admin. I think before you post something like this or jump to conclusions you should probably relax and wait to see what happens. There have been things submitted before you with the the same idea. Relax and let things happen.

I don't recall the specific Imperial faction in question(the Empire of the Hand) having utilized any of the aforementioned Death Stars, Eclipse, Eclipse II, Sovereign, Tarkin, Galaxy Gun, Blackwing Plague, or other significant Imperial superweapon. The most advanced piece of technology I recall Thrawn using that wasn't Imperial standard at some point was the Hybridium cloaking device he utilized on the asteroids. Ysalamiri don't need to be banned.

May I throw in my own two cents?

I can understand where y'all might be worried about someone outfitting their NFU army with the little critters and conquering FUs, or something like that, and I know a decision has not been made yet, but if y'all (admins) wanna do something about them, I would suggest a restriction. Like, maybe only allow one or two ysalamir per character, and have the requirements just be your character sitting down or messaging a seller for one (since I noted that there's a couple folks who clone them), or just going out and catching one yourself (that would be kinda fun).

Then you'll be able to somewhat control it, but at the same time people won't be like "Uuuuugggggghhhhhhh, I have to trek through miles and miles of digital landscape just to figure out what the velocity of a sparrow is so I can get a lizard thing. Uuuuuuuuughhh *dies*." Or something.

Again, those are my two pesos-worth, and I've probably not said anything new, but oh well :) at least I can live under the illusion that I might've sort of possibly maybe kinda helped a wee bit.

I've never been on an RP site where the little buggers weren't restricted. Sure, they can level the playing field for NFU's, but the potential for abuse is somewhere between cocaine and a Star Forge that churns out Death Stars. After any real length of time, most admin teams get fed up dealing with the drama and ban them.

I personally never got the hype that surrounds the Yslamiri. Let's be totally real here for a moment and realize one simple thing... they don't even the playing field as much as everyone usually thinks they do.

Biggest example? the Mandalorian invasion of Teta - the One Sith was being invaded by three faction at once, the Mandalorians were at their 'height' of activity and capability, they had the Bral and access to their fancy beskar-shielded nutrient packs.

But those things still didn't make 'em win the invasion and neither did it help on Wayland.

Just sayin'

This isn't so much about the lizards as much as it is about certain people leaning on my members in the rebel alliance over Skype to give out user names and information that they are not comfortable doing. I could give a damn about these things. But what I am most concerned about is the treatment of both of my members who were affected by this. I will shoot you a PM in the morning on specifics of what happened and why it was necessary that I post this, but as a whole there is no pressing situation that needs to be dealt with at once. Thank you.

Fighting FU's isn't that hard. You run and gun, lead them into ambushes, or just use overwhelming firepower. Never ever go toe to toe in close range with one unless you're out of options. Since they specialize in it. Being a good writer and of course clever will also allow you to obtain an edge. I've fought several FU's over a few of my characters. From Padawan's to some of the most fearsome Masters on the board. I haven't won every fight, but I've never died. And I always inflict some damage.

Losing the space lizards of Forcey negation won't ruin things. If anything, it should embolden us NFU's that we're plenty good enough already!

You can also obtain a thousand other weapons / armor / devices to help you out. They're there and with some work you can have them.

People fishing for user names and passwords over Skype is a very dangerous offense. Thank you for bringing this to the Admins attention.
