An Unexpected Commonality

[member="Lady Kay"]

Hesitated for a moment, giving a single stutter and then clearing his throat, as he noticed the hand coming up. Ferron was always a thorough man, and while he did talk a lot, he did get the point across. He was used to putting everything on the table, but it seemed Kay didn't need it all. "I just wanted to inform you of the precaution; it's not something I require myself or my company to warn people, but I find it a courtesy. I am thankful you understand. I'm not afraid of your people, I'm afraid what others may do to you if they get their hands on KDY products. But, yes," he nodded, "anything particular you would like us to produce for you? I know scrap metal and resources are always sought after, however we don't have our own mining position, yet. If you need common starship systems, weapons or shields, ships themselves, whatever you need. I'm ready to get started now."

Kay gave [member="Ferron Troste"] a small smile as he informed her of the reasoning behind his precaution. It was to protect herself and her people. Such a thing was good to know, in that there were others out there beyond their reach that cared for what she had built. Hopefully there wouldn't be anyone that would try to take that down. But she had to prepare for it in either case.

She leaned back in her chair as he requested that she ask of something from his company. One item at least had piqued her interest. "Shields, you say? What types of shields?" Given thatthey weren't ever on the offensive, being able to defend themselves was key.

Ferron nodded when Lady Kay mentioned shielding, which Ferron wasn't entirely an expert in, but his company had it's hands in it, plenty. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to Lady Kay, it wasn't so much that Ferron cared, it was for that customer-owner relationship. A sign of caring, although it's just good public relations. Although it isn't far from the truth; Ferron would rather his customers feel safe. No one able to, essentially, steal a customers car and run said customer over with it, sort of deal. But it also protects KDY. "As you know, Kuat Drive Yards is primarily a Military Company, so we mostly produce Military-Grade Shields. We've just rolled one off the assembly line recently, if you want to see it." Ferron looked surprised for a moment as his hands shuffled around his body, as if looking for something, "unfortunately I don't have any holonet devices on me.... but the name of the new Shield is the Fifty-two V oh-one Deflector, very powerful. Of course, it doesn't need to be on a military ship, it can be used just to protect... well, anything. We don't entirely have use-limits in loose contracts. Was there something particular you needed? We could draw something up to meet your standards."

Kay chewed the inside of her cheek a little as [member="Ferron Troste"] described the shielding that he had available. Her mind was going through just how she could put them to use. Of course she had a military, had ships. It'd be stupid if she didn't.

"Those deflectors could be quite useful in our mines, to protect the boring machines. As well as some of our vessels that escort the cargo transports." Her head tilted to the side a little. "What about planetary shielding? Have you tried delving in that at all?"

[member="Lady Kay"]

Ferron nodded, listening, seeing the potential of his shielding being used by the Queen. He just hoped they wouldn't be too small for power generation, the shields are quite power draining. "We have some older model Planetary shields, and I would have no problem getting to the drawing board to make something new and updated that can be used by Commenor. What specifics were you looking for?" Again, Ferron was upset he was so unprepared for this meeting. Now he felt like he was harming his image in front of the Queen. He hoped this didn't damage the relationship he was proposing, having military so close to the CSA territory. "We could design something especially effective at defending against laser weaponry, as it is fairly common. Give it its own facility and power supply, we could see about installing it on your planet with the aid of those better suited in the area of construction. I think we could cover the entire city, and more. Were you interested in offensive defense? Such as Planetary Cannons?"

Kay nodded. There were a few big targets that could use protection. But she had to look after the other planets as well. "That'd be great. We can use our two moons for testing grounds. Both are uninhabited, so there's no danger of risking anyone or any area."

The mention by [member="Ferron Troste"] of an offence gave her pause. Did they really need to go that route? Or will they need to in the future? Sometimes the best offence was a good defence. Or was that the other way around? Regardless, they needed to be able to defend themselves and to ward off threats before they could get close enough to destroy their lives and property.

"Planetary cannons. Are those stationed in orbit? Or on the surface?" She sure felt like a dimwit sometimes as the military wasn't her strong suit.

[member="Lady Kay"]

Hmm, these moons... they might be very useful. "Moons? What moons are the names of these moons? Queen Kay, do you think we could set up some orbital facilities by these moons? I don't mean to lay claim to them, but I wonder if we could set up positions to actively use these moons for weapons testing. We will be careful and not destroy the moons, of course. How does that sound?" Not only could KDY expand their business into CSA space but it looked like they could expand their testing abilities for making new and improved weapons instead of being inside contained facilities, "Active security would only be within a few meters of the station and within it. The rest of the space wouldn't be owned by us, of course, so the moon can continue being used by other authorized parties. And the Planetary cannons... they are more akin to surface area, rather than orbital. Orbital can be expensive with power generation, and then there is the question of how big or small, and if we need to build it in space or not. Did you want an orbital defense system?"

"Commenor has two moons, Folor and Brelor. Folor has no atmosphere, and we have a couple of bases on it to test our starfighters with. Brelor has an atmosphere, grassy plains, lakes and the like, though no one lives there. There are a few structures on it as it was once a vacation home centuries ago to some Imperial Moff. You may use them as well if you'd like."

Kay thought of the planetary cannons that [member="Ferron Troste"] was speaking about. Surface to air made more sense, especially if used less energy to do so. That was more economical. As for an orbital defence system, she was still working on making up her mind on that one. "The cannons sound fine. There are plenty of places that we can put them where they'll be hidden from plain sight. There's the Twin Canyons, Eldritch Mountains, and even the fields can hide bunkers for them. Let's tackle things one at a time, shall we? This way neither of us are overwhelmed." Her Minister of Defence wasn't around much for her to speak with and go over plans with.

Ferron smiled, raised his hand and tapping on his skull with two fingers, "you'll come to find my mind is very well trained. What I mean to say is, don't worry, I will handle the heavy baggage. You would like some of our shielding for your mines and machines, we'll deliver a dozen that you can use. Just let me know if you need more. You'd like us to try our hand at making you a new, advanced planetary shield. I'll speak to my engineers on the minimum requirements to get a shield to encircle a planet.... hmm, I may have one made for the Orbital Array, now that you mention it. You would also like us to build some orbital surface cannons to protect planets. Yes; Deflectors, planetary shields, and an orbital surface cannon. We don't have any arguments with me moving military forces around near your territory, KDY sets up a complex on Commenor, and builds two stations orbiting your moons for weapons testing. Sounds wonderful to me. Anything more?"

Kay raised a brow as [member="Ferron Troste"] mentioned that he had a well trained mind. At first she wasn't quite sure of what he meant by that. But then as he went into more detail, she understood.

And the list that he had detailed was quite extensive. At least for her. But that was mostly as it concerned things that weren't of her expertise. She wasn't an engineer or of a strategic military mind. To her, having more than enough was far better than having too little. Kay didn't want her people to suffer needlessly, and they could afford it.

"I think that'll about do it for now. In my eyes, it's quite the list of projects to take on. But I think that it's a wonderful start, don't you?"

[member="Lady Kay"]

Ferron wasn't force sensitive or anything, and he wasn't an expert in military or business, but he was a very professional business man. And when he takes serious arrangements personally, he has to be able to think fast and in the moment. Unfortunately, he isn't always perfect; as one can tell with the fact he forgot a datapad. "I think it's a great amount, and may I say thank you for putting your trust into Kuat Drive Yards. I hope we can build an everlasting relationship for the future." Ferron reached his hand out as if to shake the Queens hand to settle the deal.

Kay nodded to [member="Ferron Troste"] . "I'm sure that our trust isn't misplaced. I look forward to seeing the end results of your work." She placed her hand in his and gave it a firm, yet soft shake. "Any contracts can be drafted up and sent to my office. But you're already pre-approved to begin work before then."

[member="Lady Kay"]

Ferron gave a soft nod, closing his eyes before opening them and looking back at the Queen. He stood, calmly, brushing himself off and straightening his attire. "I hope you understand how appreciative I am of this agreement we have. The new Orbital Array will be finished soon, and we'll be having ships roll out like an assembly line. I didn't want that to frighten you, Queen Kay. It's a massive endeavor, and it all could have came crumbling down if we were at odds. I promise, Kuat Drive Yards will never have a reason to come after you, unless you give us a reason. And vice versa. We don't plan on making conflicts any time soon, and I don't plan on making any in the future. Again, thank you for meeting me, and having a fruitful conversation. It was great meeting you."

Kay gave [member="Ferron Troste"] a small smile. "I don't frighten so easily, Mr. Troste. Nor am I easily intimidated. But yes, it was great meeting you too. Please keep me informed of the progress."

She got to her feet and moved to escort him to her office door. "If you need anything, don't hesitate to reach out." this contract made her feel a little better about the future state for the CSA. People keep telling her that danger was coming, so it was better to be prepared for it.
