An Unlikely Pair

Another dawn had risen and another day the Galactic Alliance had survived to fight another day. As usual, Kataly'a had been assigned to an unimportant mission accompanying an Alliance soldier on a mission. Her fellow knights didn't trust her, which was why she was so often stationed with the Galactic Alliance instead of with other Jedi or among the Temple. The Jedi had every reason to trust her by now, her days as a Sith were over a decade behind her, and she was determined to return victorious from every mission until she had proven her loyalty.

As much shame as her history brought her, her time as a Sith apprentice offered her skills and intel she could use against the FIrst Order. It was almost worth the whispers of traitor that followed her like a shadow. She would not let it bother her, instead it would fuel her determination to prove them wrong. The former Sith had been training as a Jedi for far longer than she had been a Sith, and she had chosen to become a Jedi. The title of Sith had been her birthright, a decision made before her conception.

The base was bustling with activity, several squadrons preparing to depart on attack missions. As much as Kataly'a loved to be down on the surface swinging her saberstaff, she didn't mind the solo missions so much. Except, due to her past desertion, she was never trusted on a true solo mission and ended up accompanying Alliance soldiers and generals instead.

Today, she had been assigned as a Jedi bodyguard for a very important commander, quite a big deal the way her Master had described him. Truthfully, it sounded like he didn't need a bodyguard to begin with, they just didn't trust her to do anything else.

"Commander Starchaser, Kataly'a Kaas at your service." She greeted the man standing before her assigned ship, reaching out to shake his hand. He didn't look as impressive as everyone had made him out to be, a rather ordinary looking man, except for his blue eyes. Plenty of stories of his relatives and of his own adventures remind her that perhaps there's more to this man that it seems. After all, it's rather hard for anyone to impress her Master.

Running with the rank of Captain in the GADF, but having the honorif of Commander, a title that stated he was one of the people to look to, a hand of the Supreme Commander, if you would, he was always greeted as either, and both worked. The man was ready for most tasks and had been taking a few different jobs, just to get around the Alliance space again, and reacquainted with how things were working. He knew that the Sith were out there, but the more pressing fight was with the First Order. They were breathing down the Alliance’s neck and wee the closest dark siders to strike at.

That was how the Sentinel of Coren Starchaser saw it. Sure, as a military move, maybe it wasn’t the best, but for his own call on the Force, Coren wanted to hit hard. That was why today he was working on getting a small trip together. Taking a scouting party out to space that wasn’t claimed by either group, he wanted to make sure the Order was in their own borders. Did it bother him that he still had some Sith headhunting him? No, not really. He could handle them.

Fallixa was dispatched away so she could pick up the Spear of the Alliance, and prepare the battlegroup. Coren was getting a pair of carriers, and another pair of strong Star Defenders, and a revolving door of various frigates. But that didn’t matter right now. What he was doing was taking a small team of snipers and apparently a bodyguard – He told Omai Rhen he didn’t need it – down to the planet Ketal.

With the Sith having come calling towards Thyferra, checking on neighboring planets for spies was a worthwhile endeavor. He had approached the troop transport, flanked by his Pathfinders, and nodded. “Knight Kaas, pleasure to have you here. Have you been briefed?” He was not looking like a Jedi. No, Coren had a blaster rifle strapped to his back, a pistol on his hip, and his bloodsteel plated lightsaber on the other. His Starhawk armor would protect him from a bit. He looked the Jedi over for a second, not even reaching out in the Force.

He didn’t enjoy planet side missions, but every so often, they were needed.
