And a little fleeting on the side

Grand Admiral, First Order Central Command
So there's quite a bit of invasions and war going on between the Republic and the One Sith, but not a lot involving much besides PvP. I don't know how the Republic fleeters are feeling, but I'm interested in throwing up a skirmish thread depicting smaller fleet actions on the periphery of the main fronts, or something.

This is primarily for the Republic, who I know has at least a handful of somewhat new fleeters, but it'd be pretty easy to include other parties as well.

IC'ly, this can effect as much or as little as both sides agree on. OOC'ly I'm perfectly happy to treat this as a sort of training thread if that's what desired, or as a full on balls-to-the-wall major battle. In general though I was thinking of smaller force sizes (say one capital ship and escorts, around 4-7 vessels) and more emphasis on getting into the details of maneuvering and combat in space than focusing fire from all our star destroyers on their biggest target.

Consider this a discussion/planning thread. Please tag any fleeters or would-be fleeters you know in response.

[member="Valara Tiall"] is another fleeter, though she doesn't get tags for some reason. You have to PM her. We technically have [member="Friedrich Stahlmann"].

Also this sounds cool. We were actually doing a practice/training battle ourselves here. Letting our pilots practice and fleeters take a shot at each other.

Edit: I see you pinged Valeria which is Stahlmann's main. my bad.

Welp don't mean to barge in buuuut just want to make you all aware of this. Big fleeting part of the event, get on your faction admins for it if you're interested.

Shameless advertisement done. You may continue with your regularly scheduled lives.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I guess right now the big choice is how to make this happen IC if we want it to be. It could be a non-canon slug-fest if need be just to whet everyone's appetite for the next big fleeting situation if a reason can't be found.

An option is that it could be one of us trying to do a quick raid on the other and the two smaller fleets engage. Or maybe one of us sent a small fleet to the borders to engage the other and test their capabilities for future note/reference.

Either way, I agree that smaller fleets would be best for the training and that it would be neat to see some more tactical maneuvering. Good idea you got here! :)

I'm definitely following that as well, this is more of a diversion/warm-up thing.

Exactly my thinking. Some sort of small battle, though I see no particular reason not have it be story-canon.

Didn't mean to exclude you, just figured your corpulentness was busy with running the Republic and such. You're more than welcome to participate as well.

So as far as planning goes, I'll write up a post which is a One Sith raid with a small strike force. Half will be commanded by me, half by [member="Melakoth Tyrin "](and if [member="Kymaero Vol"] chooses to participate, part by him as well). Republic Fleet should be about equivalent, and divided amongst all participants as you see fit.

My intentions with the thread are to provide a good fleeting RP that people can look at and use as a standard. I hate the idea that 'fleeting is background noise' when space battles (and fighter's in particular) are an essential element of Star Wars. This is a chance for rivalries to be developed, friendships to be forged, swords broken shields splintered etc. etc. I also want to emphasize that though Cyrus will be doing his best to crush the Republic forces (to further build his reputation as the best commander in the galaxy) OOC'ly I will be totally approachable. If you're new to fleeting and want advice, please ask.

I will attempt to have a post up soon, but I can't promise anything before this weekend.

honestly, i find the recent proliferation of that opinion to be insulting and demeaning to those of us who specialize in naval combat and center our characters around the navy. Recently, the One Sith and [member="Tefka"] have raised an uproar at the idea of multiple invasions at the same time, claiming that every character/writer should have the opportunity to defend his faction and participate in every invasion.

yet this statement completely ignores naval characters and the fact that both the One Sith and Tefka have forced naval characters to the sidelines and proclaimed that their efforts are not only unwanted, but will be uncounted when it comes time to declare a victor.

also, i may or may not show up. ive kinda lost interest in larraq after all the trouble ive had trying to move him and his company forward, plus all this sudden 'we hate fleeting' crap that's come out lately. not to mention my displeasure over the OOC drama and attempted rules changes that keep coming out every time the OS get upset over one aspect of invasions or another....

we'll see man.

I created a character for fleeting. [member="Kymaero Vol"]. I fleeted at Alderaan.

I'm currently working with the thread starter's character on building a fleet.

God you're such a downer.

I actually requested my longtime Admiral from another website be removed from the website here because I wanted others to experience fleeting as I have.

I've fleeted a few times here and enjoyed it. Not sure what the commotion is about but *shrugs*

I designed the Stealth-X fighter for Naval Characters. Every feature about the Stealth-X requires an individual to actually pilot the damn thing, not just go in and be an idiot with it. *shrugs* Again, I have no clue whats going on, just skimmed through.

I think what [member="Captain Larraq"] is saying (though a little too brashly for my taste) is that regarding fleet engagements in a battle for a planet as a trivial occurrence is just plain silly. The vessels in this universe have the ability to blockade inbound/outbound troops (which would include PCs), not to mention bombard the surface below. If that is 'background noise', then PVP is like the sound an ant makes when it walks.

We've had this talk before, though. If fleeting decides an Invasion, then we should only let the fleeters role-play, and everyone else should just go have a bite to eat at McYoda's. I've never disregarded fleeting entirely, but in most cases, it will be considered background noise due to the sheer amount of people who wish to focus on their characters rather than their fleets.

In any case, I believe we are getting very off topic. I wish to throw the mic back to [member="Cyrus Tregessar"]. This sounds like a stellar idea.
