Armand Temi
Orphan
Back at the Crystal Palace, Princess Thais Kallisto peeked out of the tightly drawn curtains in the sitting room. The holonews speeder was still out in the front with a couple of idle news reporters milling around, drinking stimcaf and chit-chatting. I hate them, thought Thais. I hate them and their gossip and their freedom. The Princess was in a dark mood ever since she gave birth to Abigail a few weeks ago in the Palace. The main reason for her melancholy was because her child - who was also King Xander Blackmoore's heir - was taken from her the moment of delivery. She was not even able to see the infant, or hold it to her warm breast. It would be swaddled carefully by an unfamiliar nursemaid and carried off by someone from Clan Vereen, perhaps Draco himself. Thais didn't know. She was exausted from the 12-hour labor and quite inconsolable.
"Crix, can you tell the news to just go away? I'm not coming out to have them gloat over all of my tragedy. They won't see the baby because she is gone. There is nothing to report anymore," Thais said glumly.
But the Isis population knew that something had happened to Princess Kallisto. She went off to Ascension to be wed to the King of Indupar and Ec Pand with high hopes of the entire planet to unite the three worlds. But it appeared that almost everything about that plan had gone horribly wrong. There had been a massacre of nobility at the wedding, and Princess Kallisto ended up arrested and extradited back to Isis.
And then nothing. No more news of the Princess. She went into seclusion as part of the plea bargain and had her baby, which was promised to Techno Union Foreman Draco Vereen. While she escaped execution or a long prison sentence, there was one more part of her punishment left to enact.
Needless to say, the Princess just ignored that this next chapter of her life was about to happen. It was better to pretend it wouldn't happen at all. Even though her closest courtier, Crix Meriet, was now in charge of the Palace and of Kallisto Mining Company, Thais waltzed around in a malaise, still ordering her servants about - not Mr. Meriet, she was quick to keep him happy - as though she were still in charge.
