Angel, I've Got Something to Tell You [Invite]

skin, bone, and arrogance
Natasi wandered along the roadway of the base, idly fiddling with her hat as they strolled along the path. They were in the shade of the massive walls of the fortress, and construction droids continued to work along the tops of the walls, extending the wall into the sky. "The project is coming along nicely here," she said pleasantly, craning her neck to look up towards the top of the wall. "This will be one of the most heavily fortified locations on the planet when all is said and done. During times of crisis, First Order colonists will be able to come here for aid and shelter." She straightened her gaze and they continued to walk. Natasi half-turned towards [member="Roderik von Brinkerhoff"], her dark eyes studying him closely.

"Anyway," she said after a moment. "Enough about Pierce. He'd be thrilled to hear that we talked about him so much, and we can't have that." She smiled tightly. "I want to know more about you. Your vision for the Starfighter Corps specifically. Supreme Commander Kalast has confidence in your vision. So do I, come to that, but I think that's more because I trust your character and judgment. I'm not sure I grasp the finer details. Could you break it down, perhaps? For some sort of illiterate layman, such as I?"

The Grand Moff stopped, turning to face him in her riding gear, her dark eyes glancing to the side as a workman stalked by carrying a case of something. It wouldn't do to let anyone else hear that there was something the Grand Moff didn't know.

Roderik took the cue from the Grand Moff [member="Natasi Fortan"] and stopped walking, instead turning to face her. He listened to the inquiry with an interested smile, a little twinkle shining in his eye as he began pondering the right avenues of explaining away intricate space-fighting maneuvers, and the very basic tenants of organized starfighter operations.

The newly minted Major's head spun with ideas. The first of which was an increase in numbers. There was wisdom in the old adage, there is strength in numbers. "I thank both you and the Supreme Commander for your confidence. Truth be told, there is a lot of room for improvement within our ranks." He paused for dramatic effect, smiling further. "One of the main principles that TIE Fighters employ is working in a pack, a swarm, really. But our current methods leave us exposed. We operate at the very basic level, a flight -- think of it like, a squad of stormtroopers, more or less. Anyways, our flights move in packs of three. That always leaves one man without a partner, without a true wingman."

He continued his explanation, "I would some day see us with four-man flights. More resources, sure, but I am confident we could find a way to fit in a few TIEs per hangar."

Roderik thought for another moment, before adding quickly. "There is quite a lot of nuance in what we do. How we do it. But in layman's terms, I suppose what we do is use our agility to out-circle our opponents," He used his hands as props, demonstrating two flat-palmed 'starfighters' engaging in a turn fight, with one hand slipping in behind the other for what would present a firing solution.

"The fight itself could take as many turns as necessary - hundreds, sometimes. I've seen individual battles last a quarter of an hour. You try to use your agility to make angular gains with every pass-by in the circle -- what we call a merge."

The Major continued to explain a few more of the basic principles of space-combat, although the same general concepts were utilized within atmospheric combat flying, too. The man obviously had a readily apparent love for discussing the finer details of flying, and a seeming verbosity to match, when it came to the subject.
