Another Day in Paradise

The Admiralty
With Je’gan dead, Jacobs his friend and Matsu his apprentice… there weren’t any other known quantities with the capability of hiding their inner-workings from him, not when they had to do with the mind at least.

Which brought a whole new slew of possibilities to him.

A portion of him wanted to turn around the transporter now, everything had gone too easily, too smooth with no hicks on the road. Life wasn’t that way, whatever was on Aborah… a trap might be involved, and Jared Ovmar didn’t like traps.

That being said, everyone knew Ovmar would never back down, not when he thought there was something to gain there. Besides… he was seeing the trap coming, that gave him an advantage, because he doubted whoever was doing this would realize Jared would figure it out.

The Sith Lord had carefully cultivated a reputation of decadence, belligerence without temperance and a distinct lack of good sense, it should serve him well in the coming hours.

A few more minutes passed and eventually the transport landed on the overgrown landing pad of the manor, it was clear no one had been here for some time now (at least now by using the landing pad, which didn’t really say a lot these days) the engine powered down and the Sith Lord stepped foot on the pad, he stretched his senses over the island and the manor, but nothing came back to him - for all intents and purposes it seemed he was the only sentient life form here.

The Admiralty
This made him slightly more relaxed, but not by much. Droids, Vong, Force Users hiding their presence… he had seen too much to be entirely confident by a simple scanning of the environment, and yet his legs started to move; almost by themselves. Closer, ever so closer towards the huge doors of the Manor.

Five steps, four, two and there he was.

The slightest trickle of the Force pushed against the door, opening it and the Ovmar was ready for the worst… and yet nothing happened. He stepped through the opening, his eyes slowly adjusting themselves to the darkness, awaiting the moment something tried to bite his head off… and yet nothing happened.

This would have been the perfect moment for a trap, and yet all was quiet.

The Force stayed silent, suggesting peace and security. Jared remained skeptical, but started to poke around with the Force, eventually by using the combined memories and the senses of the Force to find a hidden door, stepping through out the secret stairway into the inner workings of the manor.

Eventually he reached the inner sanctum and its sight brought real tears to his eyes.

A huge library, shelves upon shelves with books, scrolls, holocrons, artifacts… and then his eyes were drawn to a single chair in the middle of it all, a chair filled with the ghostly apparition of an old Muun.

Smirk playing on his lips, his eyes were calculative and measuring all at once.

Then it spoke.

‘Welcome, Jared Ovmar. I have been waiting for you for some time now, and please… wipe off the drool from the floor, it’s unseemly.’

The Admiralty
‘Rise, Darth Carach. One such as you should not kneel for a shadow. Oh yes, I know of your little… expedition. Amusing, to say the least.’

‘So it’s true, you are-’

‘Yes.’

‘I do not understand, how-’

‘Don’t ask stupid question you already know the answer to.’

‘Then why?’

‘You will have to be more specific.’

‘Why allow him to go free, why allow him to continue unscathed.’

‘Ah, I saw no point in jeopardizing the future, for all intents and purposes we had already won. As long as one of ours was in charge I was content in leaving it be.

‘I see.’

‘You don’t agree.’

‘I learned quickly that allowing people to betray you, only invites further betrayal down the road.’

‘And yet she still lives.’

‘You kno--’

‘Are you really surprised?’

‘I guess not. So what happens now?’

‘What do you mean?’

‘Is this an orchestrated attempt to return to the Galaxy?’

‘Please, I have long since transcended that particular weakness.’

‘I don’t understand.’

‘I didn’t expect you to.’

‘...’

‘I am bored, simple as that. Looking through the watery surface of the Force upon the daily dealings of you and yours has become boring, I simply wished to influence some dealings, for old time’s sake.’

‘Why me?’

‘You mean, why not someone like Rave Merrill?’

‘Yes.’

‘I considered it for a time, but after she managed to lose her archives I doubted she’d be able to take care of mine.’

‘Harsh.’

‘Besides, she hardly needs all of this. That one is very far along the path.’

‘Mhm.’

‘I see you aren’t satisfied yet.’

‘What happens after this?’

‘We have a few paths to choose from.’

‘Oh?’

‘You could take what I am offering, and simply leave me be. I will probably wax along the Current for a while longer, before finally taking my place in Chaos.’

‘Or?’

‘You could try and take my spirit. I wouldn’t advise it.’

‘There is a third choice.’

‘Oh?’

‘I have been to Chaos, it ain’t a pleasant place to say the least.’

‘You speak the truth, but I don’t see an alternative besides those two.’

‘...’

‘You can’t be serious.’

‘...’

‘Why would I do such a thing?’

‘...’

‘Really now? That is your plan?’

‘We both know you are going to do it.’

‘Fine, but I highly doubt this is going to work out.’

‘Have faith.’

‘I hate you already.’
