Asking questions for the point of asking questions

So, I'm going to put my hand up and say I've done this myself. You ask question on a sub for no reasons that's ever really going to matter. However, I've had this done to me on the starship side and it's really irksome.

If a sub is in a nice clear category that doesn't need dev, and the template is filled out properly and there are no obvious holes, it should just be the default to get it stamped and move on?

Obviously where things are contentious, don't mane sense, etc. it's up to the judge to help the writer get the submission through.

Well now this is rather interesting.

You see there was a point in the factory’s life when FJs were specifically told NOT to one shot pass things, to always ask a question, even if not strictly necessary.
That was a move which was silly, but it’s entered the culture a bit, as though approving something without questions is somehow lazy or not ‘doing it right’.

Which is nonsense to me. If a submission is good enough to be passed in one go it should be.

I'm not a factory judge, but, i'm going to reply anyway....

<Mytwocents>It's fairly rare that a submission is either simple or perfect enough not to need /any/ edits. The only times I've ever seen that is 1.) Just a really amazing submission, which is not all that common, or 2.) A really simple one... I.E Popo's various farm crops.

I thought it was just common sense to know the difference between something simple or perfect enough to be insta-approved, and those not... But *shrugs* people are people. Some time sthey need reminding.

If there isn't anything wrong with a sub, I don't really see a point in asking for a redundant edit. And it isn't all that rare, the only time I've been asked, personally, for an edit was due to a misunderstanding. Most requests for edits are because of issues where someone isn't aware of what is or isn't acceptable. Now, if this conversation is about doing away with requesting an edit for someone who is subtly trying to get by with a potential issue, just because "It'll get removed anyways", then I completely disagree, as that isn't just lazy, it's over-simplifying the issue and trying to shove off the responsibility. Factory judges exist to keep issues from occurring and making sure the factory runs to the standards that Tefka wishes them to be at, not to pass stuff through as long as it isn't a blatant issue.

To me, it honestly depends on how basic the sub is.

Once it gets more complicated, I may ask a question or two after fully researching anything that I need to about the sub first. If all goes well, then it should be fine for a pending.
