At Long Last [Kära Vi'dreya & the Heavenshields]

Voss_TOR_new.png
Aboard the Phoenix
En Route to Voss

Their buisness on Umbara had been concluded sooner than they'd thought; this relative of Kära's was nowhere to be found, leaving the White Lady to assume she'd been taken off-world. She would still be too young to leave by her own hand. Where she was taken, or who had taken her, had remained a mystery to them until recently. By going over the hangar records of arrivals and departures over the last decade - procured by one of Kära's informants - they soon found a lead:

Arrival: The Seren Heritage, owned by 'Heavenshield'.

Only one person could bear that name, Kära revealed: Thurion. Much like himself, his younger brother had taken a name he'd earned, rather than been given. Dead set on the belief that upon finding Thurion they would find out about whoever Kära had hoped to find on Umbara, their next plan was to track down his whereabouts. It didn't take too much digging to find that same name belonging to the head of one of the major powers in the galaxy: the Silver Sanctum Coalition.

Thus, they set sails for Voss. Getting an old Imperial Star Destroyer through Coalition territory unnoticed was deemed an impossible task, meaning they were forced to travel lighter. It had been a long time since last he had need of his old Assault Corvette, but now it was just what they needed to get to Voss unhindered. After picking a handful of loyal men to crew the ship, the Ashborn and Lady Kairos embarked on the trip to Voss.

Descending through the atmophere, Thyrian stood beside Kära while watching the blue planet grow in size. His eyes, however, were not focused on the beautiful view outside, but rather the one next to him. Uncrossing his arms, he reached for her hand after some hesitation and felt her soft skin against his coarse palm. Deep down he dreaded meeting his long lost brother again. "Perhaps the wounds are too deep..." he thought aloud.

Meanwhile, on Voss...

The Heavenshields were for once not found within the halls of the Silver Temple. They were instead enjoying a trip to the capital, Voss-Ka, and the Tower of Prophecy found there. The prominent building was home to the Voss Mystics; an Order of healers and seers able to predict the future, according to popular beliefs. While not there to have their futures prophesied, Thurion and his family were merely enjoying a day off at one of the more visited sites in the known galaxy. It was a sacred place to the Voss species, and one that should be treated with utmost respect.

"Now don't run off too far, Théo. This place is huge; finding you would prove impossible," he told his son in ominous tone. Such wasn't the case, of course - little would come between him sensing his boy's whereabouts at all times. Besides, he knew Nina and Mysa would help keep an eye on him, bless his innocence. Everything is a game or an adventure to Théo, just how it should be for a child. The young should never feel the weight of the world upon their shoulders, or share the worries of their elders.

Holding his wife's hand as they walked the grand halls of the Tower, he placed a soft kiss on Coci's cheek. "Told you this was a good idea."

Kära stood alongside her Phoenix and stared over the vastness of space, as much in awe as she had been the first time she had stood on a ships bridge and seen the sights for herself. She was by now certain it was a trait passed down from her Father, as Lussk was quite the Admiral and probably enjoyed being in space more than he did on any planet in the Galaxy. She had no clue where he was these days, they had not spoken since the fall of the Empire. And oddly enough she didn't really need to find out. Kära could live without her parents, she had done so for the majority of her life. It was the siblings she felt for most, those who would be as confused about their parent's absentism as she had been to begin with.

When Thyrian touched her hand she was brought back to reality, and she took his hand in her own and entwined their fingers. She didn't look at him, she didn't say anything, she didn't have to. The gesture alone spoke volumes. Voss was coming into view now, the landscape, the City they were descending toward. She only hoped that Thurion would know where Nina was, that way they might kill two birds with one stone this day. She squeezed Thyrian's hand a touch for reassurance. There was no backing out of this now.

Mysa had never explored Voss beyond the Temple and its surrounding landscape, nor had she ever seen a City before. Ever. So it was that as they strode through the Capital her eyes were wide and set upon everything, soaking in the new sights that mesmerized her. "How did they build them so big..." she marveled, more so to herself than to anyone else present. Some of the buildings were huge, and mostly glass. It didn't make sense! Surely they should just come crashing down around them.

Wait... They wouldn't come crashing down around them, right?

Eyeing them with caution, Mysa hurried along and stood at Furry's side. She had seen a lot of Coci lately, being that she was now her Padawan and all, but Thurion not so much. The man was busy leading the Jedi, of course, but that didn't mean she didn't miss him all the same. After all, it had been he who brought her home to Tabaqui and introduced her to his family. It was he who had taken a chance on the unknown girl who had been sent to his Father's domain.

At the mention of Theo and getting lost, Mysa began her ever wary vigil over the boy, watching from a distance. He had grown so fast in what felt like a short space of time, soon he would tower over her! Not that it was at all surprising, given how high his Father and Grandfather had grown! Clutching Ear, and watching over her brother, and marveling at the view, Mysa was beginning to feel a little overwhelmed. The Galaxy was so vast and within it she felt insignificant. And the events on Midvinter had shaken her considerably.

"Furry" she said quietly, so that only he could hear her, "I did something bad." The little girl frowned a little, looking everywhere but at the Guardian at her side. For all she knew the news had already reached him that the child had joined an Evac-Team on Midvinter without asking for permission, and that she had hurt one of the undead horde. But she felt as though she had to confess to it, after all she had hurt another being!

Her thumb gently caressed the back of Thurion's hand as he held hers, she smiled feeling his lips upon her cheek, "Yes you are right it is a good idea", and yet her eyes found each and every child in her family to make sure she knew where they were, even though the force told them all. They are all aging, Nina growing up and approaching womanhood far to quickly for Coci's liking, Mysa had developed greatly in the time she had been with the family, opening up and enjoying training, exploring and meeting others within the Order. And Théo of course, no longer their baby but a strong growing boy with a mind of his own, he will be as tall as his father, if not taller and coupled with Valkyri blood, he will live a good age.

The recent events once more taking a toll on them, Midvinter under threat saw them fight for it once more alongside many others, and Coci felt the fatigue, war and battles always do exact a price, freedom comes at a cost personally to those that deem it duty to protect, but it is a price they are prepared to pay. Around them the reason for it, the children and their futures.

"So, what do you have planned for us today?", she asked of her husband.

The Tower of Prophecy, steeped in much history of Voss, part of which had been rebuilt but most remained in ruin. Home to Sages and Healers, Jedi and others alike, mysterious beings wondering the corridors, secretive and eerie and all manner of spooky. No, Théo would not like this place at all, he loved it!

When father told them they would spend the day here, told them all about the place, Théo's mind became enraptured, oh the possibilities of what one might find and discover. His eyes found something a little off from their path, it looked to be a part of the ruins, a door way leading who knew where. But there is a barrier placed around it, some form of energy shield blocking entry with sign saying, Authorised Personnel Only in big red letters. As his mind worked on the control panel of the shield, and how to negate the alarms, his father's voice sounded in his ears, and Théo shoulders slumped. It was as if he could read his mind! Turning, Théo gave his father a skeptical look, he knew his mother and father would be able to find him if he was lost, Théo having been trained in force awareness now knows their secret.

Inwardly, Théo has changed. Growing up within a family notable, not only on Voss but the galaxy at large. Being a part of something greater that is the Coalition and all of this combined with life experiences. Even one so young as Théo has seen blood drawn and a life taken, something his family is unaware of. Théo's child-like innocence, is gone.

Voss-Ka Space Port

As the ramp lowered itself, Thyrian was the first to disembark and set foot on Voss soil. Its mystical aura could be felt by anyone well-versed in the Force, and in truth it made him feel uneasy. Then again, perhaps it was just nerves. A silly thing to be worried about considering all he'd seen and done in his life, but there it is. Telling the crew to stay with the ship and out of sight, Thyrian pulled up his hood before reaching for Kära's hand and aid her down the ramp, despite knowing she didn't need the help; it was just an act of courtesy to the woman he loved.

Upon exiting the space port, the Ashborn was struck by the afternoon sun beginning its descent across the sky, but rather than shielding his own eyes from the sudden change in brightness he made sure Kära's sensitive Umbaran eyes would not become crippled by it. One could say he was doting on her, but truth be told she would more often than not forget to do so herself. There was little in the way of Kära mannerisms he didn't know by heart, after all. "Let's go," he merely said, anxious to get this over with as quickly as possible. Like removing an old band-aid.

[member="Kära Vi'dreya"]

And so it was that the pair made it to Voss unhindered. While Thyrian opted to raise his hood, Kära gracefully took the offered hand and descended the ramp to stand at his side. She wore another of her pure white gowns, of which she now had a few, which contrasted the Ashborn perfectly. He always seemed to wear darker shades. They complimented one another, however, and the smile that was delicately placed upon the woman's lips spoke of a new turn in her life, a new chapter where she would finally permit herself some small margin of happiness.

Releasing his hand, for they were now in public and she didn't know how her Phoenix might react, Kära glanced around the spaceport and inhaled slowly. It wasn't as horrible an atmosphere as one might expect from a City, no doubt the rest of the planet made up for that. Exiting the spaceport alongside him, she was surprised to see him doting over her so publicly. He shielded her eyes from the harsh light, something she didn't even do for herself, and once his hand lowered again she took it into her own. Who cared what others thought.

"My informants have told me where they ought to be" she muttered to the Ashborn, as the pair wandered through the City. Kära took the lead without ever stepping from his side, her gaze cautiously darting around for any sign of danger. But there was none to be found.

[member="Thyrian Ashborn"]

"Well," he began. "Once we've fully explored the area and found Théo after inevitably losing track of him, I was thinking we could grab a bite at one of the local diners. I've never tasted Voss cooking before," he said with a smile on his face. While still somewhat exhausted from their bout on Midvinter, nothing would keep him from enjoying a day with his family - Vinterbound be damned! A slight tug of his sleeve caught his attention, and looking down he found the frowning face of little Mysa. "Sweetie, what's the matter?" he asked while getting down on his knees, placing both hands upon her shoulders. Her suddenly asking for forgiveness had him puzzled for a second, but was soon reminded of her having been present at Midvinter during the undead attacks.

"It's alright, Mysa. Those things weren't people, they were monsters, and you saved someone's life when you hurt it." Thurion wrapped his arms around her and held her in close embrace. "I'm proud of you, Mysa," he told her before pulling away, hands again upon her shoulders. "It's a harsh realisation, knowing that sometimes you're forced to hurt someone in order to protect another from harm. I learned that lesson when I was about your age," he said, raising a hand to trace the faded scar adorning his forehead with his fingertips. His first time hurting someone was when defending Kitty from one of the bandits on Nar Shaddaa, back during the Silent Conclave era. The wounds he sustained were of little concern when knowing he'd kept his dearest friend out of harm's way.

"It's not a perfect world out there, Snowflake; there are bad people just as there are good people, and knowing one from the other can be difficult at times. Not every situation will be as black and white as your encounter on Midvinter. When the time comes, all you can do is follow your heart, your instincts. They will let you know when you've made the right choice." Settling a palm against her soft cheek, he leaned forward to kiss her forehead before grabbing her by the waist and lifting her up over his head to place her atop his shoulders.

Nina was overjoyed at the chance to get away from the temple, beautiful as it was, and merely enjoy a day out with her parents and siblings. She'd grown much during her training as a youngling, and excelled at most aspects of the mind thanks to her Umbaran heritage. When sparring she was shaping up to be a quick and agile duellist, however due to her small size compared to others her age she would often times lack the stamina for prolonged sessions.

Now was not a time for training, but rather a time for enjoyment and relaxation. The Tower of Prophecy was an astounding sight to behold, and beautifully decorated. Within there were ancient relics on display, Voss mystics going about their duties, and the offer to have one's future told. She didn't feel the need to know what lay in store for her, what's the fun in that? Keeping close to her parents, Nina also made sure to keep an eye on her brother. Despite having grown a lot, he would still seek adventure around every corner.

Something then caught her blue eyes, and reaching for Coci's hand she tugged for her to come see what she'd found. On the wall hung a great painting, bigger than she could've ever imagined! Having gone from simple crayon drawings to more complex paintings in recent years, Nina had a keen interest in art and all aspects of it. She hardly did anything but paint in her spare time, as it was a way for her to express herself without the use of words. Nina pointed at the large painting and smiled, practically bouncing in place out of sheer elation.

[member="Coci Heavenshield"]

Could there be anything more .. girly, but to look at a painting? He thought to himself watching his Mama and Nina. Father was occupied with Wriggles, Mother with Nina which, left Theo to his own devices, but here in the room filled with art and artifacts there was not much for him to do. Puffing out his cheeks to stave away the onset of boredom, he found something in a case that might be of intrigue.

Looking down through the glass case, it was a bone, with a write up about some old Seer, whatever that was. He yawned, but continued along the line of cases briefly checking each one for it's contents. A bone, a book lay open with strange writing, an amulet, a key. He walked toward the door leading to the corridor, but stopped. A key?

He back tracked to the case with key. Why would anyone put a key in a case, and then locked it in? Now he is intrigued. What does this key open, and what would one find if they did so? The write up told him very little, save for a mysterious artifact long lost to the galaxy, which now is held in legend. But if it was a legend .. why this key?

Theo remained at case allowing his active mind to envisage all manner of things that this key might open, a boy lost in adventure of the mind, it was better than paintings.

"I don't know where Theo gets all this adventurous spirit from, I was never like that as a child. Must be from your side of the family", she teased her beloved. Coci looked over the Theo, watching as he found interest in something, at least he was still in view. "Some food later sounds great .. ", but a gentle hand reaching for her's, took her attention.

"What is it, Nina?", she asked sensing a delight in their young daughter. It did not take long to discover the source of her delight, and Coci look on the painting with appreciation as well. In a way it reminded her of home, Corellia now lost and dying. Her mind went back to the Estate, the large rooms filled with art work and paintings not unlike this one. But the style so different.

"It is beautiful", she said to Nina, speaking to her now as she is learning to decipher the spoken language. Naturally, Coci worries about Nina sometimes, she spends to much time alone, in her own thoughts and world and not socialising as much as Coci would like her too, although she has entered the Temple to train and met with others of her age. But .. it is her way.

Coci moved closer to the painting, taking Nina with her. "Do you see the brush strokes, how the artist applied the paint to the canvas? How the artist mixed the colour on the palette and used that to give depth and texture. Come closer to see it". Leading Nina forward a few steps more, she would be close enough to see the artist's work as if watching the paint being applied before their eyes.

"To see this painting in it's fullest .. we must stand back on the other side of the room and the image will jump out at us .. you will see", but first, before doing this, Coci will allow Nina to take her time to marvel.

She frowned a little as Thurion spoke, so he knew then what she had done? It shouldn't have come as a surprise, after all he was the Order's Grandmaster. Did this mean he was upset with her for sneaking in as part of the distress team? Chewing on her lip the little girl looked down at her feet... But then he pulled her close and said he was proud. Her face scrunched into confusion. "But I hurt something" she said, before hearing what he had to say concerning it. She had done it to protect the others, he was right.

There was still so much that she had to learn, she realised. He referred to the situation on Midvinter as black and white, but to the little Umbaran it was anything but! She hadn't wanted to do it, but she also didn't want any of the other children hurt. Nodding her head Mysa let out a small sigh and relief finally spread through her. She wasn't to be condemned or cast out.

When he lifted her up onto his shoulders, Mysa buried her face against his hair and smiled softly. She still hadn't fully adjusted to living as apart of a family, but it was getting easier. The Heavenshields had done a good job at acclimatizing her to it all, little did she know of the shake-up her life was about to receive...

The city of Voss-Ka was not as busy as one would imagine a city to be; it was no Coruscant or Dromund Kaas, with the Voss inhabitants going about their buisness at a leisurely pace. The two would've stuck out like a sore thumb to an onlooker. No matter - they had not come to cause trouble. As they walked hand-in-hand, Thyrian laid eyes on a pair of young boys stood eyeing the food on display at a market stall. The sight caused him to stop and observe the two, the older kid buying the younger a piece of fruit.

"Thyrian, I'm hungry..."

His eyes closed shut, and for a moment he felt as if someone tugged on his sleeve.

"Don't worry, I'll find us some food."

His stomach was rumbling, but he didn't say anything.

"Here, I found this. Go on, take it."

The food would only feed one of them. He didn't tell him he'd stolen it.

"Good night, big brother."

The younger would go to sleep while the elder stayed up, ever watchful. His needs were secondary.

"Sleep well," the Ashborn spoke softly before opening his eyes. The two boys were gone, enjoying their treats. Thyrian turned to look at Kära, the light in his life, and wiped a lone tear forming in the corner of his eye. "I know where he is. I can sense him." His hand held hers firmly as he led on, through the marketplace and towards the great Tower of Prophecy. The closer they got to it, the more certain he was of his decision. Not bothering to stop and marvel at the grand entrance of the tower, Thyrian and Kära proceeded inside.

Upon turning around the corner, he found not his brother but a young boy browsing the items on display with disinterest. Black of hair, but his eyes... they were his brother's, or very much alike. "That's not..." He didn't even have time to finish his sentence before a grown man, hair blonde like gold and eyes like sapphires, entered the room. Upon his shoulders there sat a little girl. A girl with white hair... The sight rendered him unable to breathe, let alone speak.

[member="Kära Vi'dreya"] | [member="Coci Heavenshield"]

When Mysa atop his shoulders buried her face in his hair he smiled, feeling her soft breaths against the top of his head. She was as much part of their family as any of them, and there had even been talks about adopting her just as he did Nina years ago. Speaking of Nina, while she and Coci stood marvelling over the great works of art on display, Thurion proceeded to the next room where Théo had gone to. The boy didn't seem as genuinely interested in the vast array of sacred relics and rare items as the rest of the family, ever on the quest for more adventure.

Upon crossing the threshold, Thurion found his son standing by one of the display cases containing a key of some sort. Whatever it was, it had caught Théo's attention. Probably because he wanted to know what the key opened. "What've you got there, Théo..." he began only to grow quiet as his eyes came across the two people stood at the far end of the room. The tall one he didn't recognise, but the woman dressed in white... He knew he'd seen her before. A long time ago.

"K... Kära?" The name escaped his lips without him even trying to utter it. Gently he let Mysa down from atop his shoulders and took her by the hand as he approached the two. "Théo, come here..." he spoke in passing, taking him by the hand, as well. As he got closer he could make out the glowing eyes of the white lady's companion, trying to hide his face beneath his dark hood. The man kept him on edge, but he had to find out about the lady in white. Before him stood a grown woman, with snow-white hair and eyes of the lightest blue.

[member="Kära Vi'dreya"] | [member="Coci Heavenshield"]

She gave the Phoenix as much time as he needed when he stopped and closed his eyes. And it seemed to pay off, for the moment he was once again alert he grasped her hand and led the way through the City toward a very tall building. How did he know that Thurion would be inside? She might have been skeptical, only she knew the way the Force worked when it wanted to coax you along toward something. So she didn't doubt him.

Instead she followed, hand in hand, until they entered a room and Thyrian halted.

The boy seemed somewhat familiar, though his features seemed a mash of memories to the woman. The eyes, though, were most definitely ones she knew. And then she heard a voice and turned toward the man. Her breath caught in her throat for a second as Thurion came into view, and when he looked her way it was clear he recognised her as readily as she had him.

Time became meaningless all at once, she was back in the Temple on Coruscant, in the Room of a Thousand Fountains, hiding from her worries beside a blonde boy. Her best friend. Her only friend.

She gave no warning as she released Thyrian's hand and took the few short steps forward and stared at Thurion, her eyes were wide and her immediate urge was to embrace him in a tight hug. It had been so long, too long, since she had felt the calming presence this particular Heavenshield emitted. He had been the only person to truly give her a chance where the light was concerned, and that realization ached at her very core.

"T-Thurion" she murmured, she didn't notice the little girl at this point, her own child - unbeknownst to her - though she realised that the boy they had seen was most definitely his. There was no mistaking those eyes.

[member="Thurion Heavenshield"] [member="Théodred Heavenshield"]

Out of the corner of his eye he saw movement as two people entered the room, but it was not until his father spoke and took his hand did he move to look at them. As they walked toward the lady and a man dressed in cloak with the hood pulled up did Théo study them both. His eyes falling over the pair with a strong curiosity, as it seemed his father knew them or at least the lady. He did not know who she was, or the man that accompanied her, but he feel strange.

When his father stopped, Théo looked to the lady as she spoke, it was then he noticed her face, her beautiful features so similar to both his sisters and the white hair, he glanced toward Mysa. But his attention was pulled to the man standing directly in front of him. Théo dared to take a step forward, releasing his father's hand in the process. His eyes found his boots, before traveling up his entire length, so large of build and stature. Théo bent a little to look under the hood and as he did so, his mouth opened in surprise. For under the hood was a face that held the features of his grand father and ... father. A strong resemblance cut in the line of the jaw and the forehead strong and noble but his eyes, they are strange. He would say not a word to the man, but fixed a stare to his eyes and .. smiled.

Before Kära could act on her instincts of doing the same, Thurion stepped forward and threw his arms around her. Nothing could've prepared him for this moment; to be reunited with his childhood friend from so long ago - from a time when everything was so much more simple. "Kära... it is you," he proclaimed, more so for his own sanity's sake. It was difficult to grasp at first. His right hand caressed the back of her head and her white hair while resting his bearded chin on her shoulder. "I thought I'd never see you again." He pulled away from the embrace to look upon her face, beaming a smile as he did. "Wh... Wha... Where have you been? What've you been doing all this time?"

The man she was with had faded into background noise, until Théo in his curiosity attempted to discern his identity beneath the hood. "Théo," he said, tugging lightly on his son's hand. "Don't be rude." The large man didn't seem to move a muscle when he spoke, the upper half of his face still hidden beneath the hood. "It's fine..." A deep, booming voice to match his imposing appearance. Thurion now shared his son's curiosity. "Who's your friend?" he simply asked, immensely unprepared for the answer to his question.

[member="Kära Vi'dreya"] | [member="Coci Heavenshield"]

While Kära undeniably lit up at the sight of her long-lost childhood friend, Thyrian chewed on his lower lip as the two embraced one another. Never had he allowed another to come so close to her so suddenly, especially not someone of the opposite sex. It made him feel uncomfortable rather than enraged, considering it was his brother, but he trusted Kära. The only two people he ever cared about were now in the same room. It was an odd feeling, to say the least.

His attention was then turned towards the little one trying to catch a glimpse of his face. He didn't react to it, but merely stared down at the raven-haired boy, eyes burning bright. The lad smiled at him as if he knew, but was soon reined in by his father. "It's fine..." the Ashborn simply said. When Thurion then took an interest in him, he subconsciously turned away from him slightly. By now he was afraid; afraid of being found out, despite knowing the inevitable outcome. "Who's your friend?"

Thyrian looked to Kära, then slowly panned to his brother. "Thurion..." he spoke in the softest tone possible. He then dropped his gaze to the floor as he removed his hood, and then proceeded to just stand there, head held as if ashamed. There were no attempts of making eye-contact.

Mysa frowned as she was lowered from Thurion's shoulders and set to his side; she stared at the strangers and was a little confused by how familiar the woman looked. And then she gulped and took a very steps away. Her eyes were wide, and she shook her head. "F-Furry" she whimpered, tugging on his sleeve to try and pull him away. "Furry please..."

She watched as he embraced the woman. What was going on? How could he hug her? The woman who was stood there was the person Mysa referred to as the Creator, she couldn't mistake those features, the hair, the eyes. With a whimper the little girl released Thurion's sleeve and took a few steps away from them all. "I don't want to go back" she whispered, she hated the room and the scientists.

Turning on her heels the little girl ran from the room and hurried off to try and find Coci and Nina.
