"...totally," Valery said, pretending that it had been a planned pun. That wasn't the case, but maybe she could get him to think that she was funny this way. It usually always backfires when she tries, especially with her husband and his relentless teasing. So these were the little wins she was going to take.
Valery then watched him rise and shake his head, and she could feel the hesitation in him. Not too strange, given the conversation they had earlier, but she didn't like that one of her closest friends wasn't feeling good about himself. Perhaps she'd have to send Amani a message about it, and have her talk to him a little too.
She'd get through to him even more than Valery could.
"I know they can," Valery finally said. She wrapped an arm around his shoulders for a side-hug, and walked with him back to camp. This raid had been successfully stopped, so now it was time to warm up and let the body rest a bit.
