SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Restores vision to individuals whose eyes are naturally nonfunctional, or have become nonfunctional due to injury.
  • Can receive signals from electronic devices and display them as part of a HUD
  • Has macrobinocular functions
  • Has Thermal Imaging Scanner
  • Impact Resistant Housing
  • Hardened Circuits
  • Small embedded Nuclear Battery with Neutronium shielding provides 25 years of shelf life through the decay of radioactive isotopes, and can be replaced.
STRENGTHS
  • See again!
  • See well!
  • See for a long time!
  • Gain a Head's Up Display!
WEAKNESSES
  • Despite Hardened Circuits, the unit will be forced into a reboot if exposed to an Ion or Electrical attack. This will blind the wearer for about a minute.
  • It's a very obvious prosthetic that stands out quite a bit.
DESCRIPTION
The Athakam Medtech Model V Optical Prosthesis is a cybernetic optic loaded with useful features, designed for patients engaged in dangerous or rigorous activity. Its reinforced housing is perfect for those who have lost part of their facial skull structure along with their eyes, as it lends strength to the underlying bone or even replaces missing segments of bone from the cheek, forehead, and nose. An embedded micro-nuclear battery enables continuous use for up to 25 years via the harnessing of decaying isotopes in a shielded powercell. When the power does run low, replacing the unit is a snap. The optics allow options including macrobinocular function, HUD function, and thermographic display, and can glow in a variety of stylish colors to match aesthetic preferences. In the event of an unexpected electrical discharge, the unit will reboot, leaving the wearer without vision for a short time. But rest assured it will come back online, thanks to its hardened circuits.

Kan Callo Kan Callo

So, normally I'd just approve this, but I just...have to know.

Does this thing have some sort of internal radiation shielding? A nuclear battery right up against the eyes is a great way to get face cancer.

LOL!

Yes, "via the harnessing of decaying isotopes in a shielded powercell."

Surprisingly inspired by real-world technology: https://osrp.lanl.gov/pacemakers.shtml
In our world, radio-thermal-decay things were shielded with substances like lead, but in Star Wars, they probably have even better stuff. Neutronium?
Radioactive decay for the win!

I really think heat dissipation might be the larger concern, but that metal faceplate probably makes a great heatsink.
