Atlas Drake is a renowned deep space explorer and frontier guide. During his military career with the Kathol Navy he helped Galactic Alliance surveyors chart the Starbird Trade Spine and eventually retired from active service to pursue an independent career hyperspace prospecting. He's been credited with several prominent Unknown Region discoveries such as the wondrous Diamond Shoals.
One of the earliest candidates for the Outbound Flight Program, Captain Drake developed many of the protocols still in use today when navigating uncharted territory and making first contact with isolated cultures. He is still heavily involved with the program and even sometimes joins new expeditions whenever there is an exciting new discovery made about how to navigate the most unreliable outer reaches.
Although he has made a name for himself in Wild Space leading salvage operations Drake is more driven by his humanitarian efforts, in particular working with the Jedi to study devastated worlds as well as track down surviving refugees and lead them back to safe harbor. Several of the warrior monks have earned his cautious respect even if he thinks the Force is kind of a hokey religion.
While serving in the Kathol Navy he saw action against Bando Gora Reavers, the First Order, Sun Guard mercenaries and the Sith Empire. He witnessed both the miracle at Skor II and the devastation of Pantora. His connection with radical anti-Imperial elements remains unsubstantiated rumor yet the ISB once declared Atlas and his crew persons of interest after the Constellation fled from a patrol along the old Imperial border near Galidraan.
Unable to prevent the Csilla disaster, Atlas bears a grudge against the Maw and pirates in general. Otherwise he is frustratingly optimistic and almost rational to a fault. Despite his affluent family or perhaps because of it he takes great pride in a working class lifestyle. Back home before the Sith occupation he was once more or less treated like a prince.
Last sighted by authorities on Lothal. Previous known ports of call were Outlander Station in the Unknown Regions and Mek-Sha on the edge of the Scar Worlds.

Born on Dayark in the Kathol Outback. Son of a frontier Senator and hyperdrive tycoon. Descended from ancient colonists. Kathol Technical Academy certificates in tactical and strategic studies, interstellar surveying and scouting, as well as comparative linguistics and first contact protocols. Volunteered for military service in the Kathol Navy.
Earns distinction while captain of the Marauder corvette Helios hunting pirates. Selected for command of a destroyer in the Navy's frontier patrol. Forced to abandon ship when the Utopia was scuttled over Pantora by Sith Imperials and Sun Guard mercenaries. Leads an expedition to the distant Firefist satellite galaxy and establishes a remote lunar outpost there known as Footfall.
Granted the privilege of retrofitting an allied uukaablian star cruiser the Beyond as his new command. Instrumental in charting the Starbird Trade Route. Retires from active military service to pursue his new civilian career as a surveyor and salvage expert. Now captain of the Trident-class surveyor ship Constellation.
EQUIPMENT
Unless he's spending some time planetside Atlas often wears an enviro-suit for safety. This model looks about a decade out of date however its heavily modified and worn in by constant use. Retractable helmet for ease of storage and enough reserve oxygen to survive extended operations.
GLIE-44 BLASTER
As a sign of respect for his military record, Captain Drake was allowed to keep his service weapon after he mustered out of the Kathol Navy. It's a reliable pistol which lacks the stopping power of a heavy blaster but is more compact.
TEHK'LA BLADE
A traditional Nagai vibroknife gifted to Atlas from the colony on Saijo. It is a particularly useful token of past military service. Artisan crafted and probably the most valuable thing he owns. When the ultrasonic generator is activated it can cut through damn near anything.
ZEPHYR-J SWOOP
Whenever he needs to get around on the surface Drake uses an old Zephyr-J for its utility. There's storage to hold a few more blasters or special equipment depending on the situation. Fast enough in an emergency and hasn't broken down in a while. This is definitely not an early sign of midlife crisis.
