Back in the Writer's Chair and some questions

Hello everyone!

I'm getting ready to get started with my first character here and I wanted to say hi and ask a few questions. I've been a huge Star Wars nerd and a roleplayer for most of my life. I got started role playing on yahoo clubs in the 1990s as part of a group called the "Galactic Embassy." From there I moved on to table top playing and eventually video game roleplaying (in Star Wars Galaxies, The Matrix Online, WoW, and EVE Online). I'm pretty rusty and law school destroyed my ability to write like a normal human, but I'm looking forward to writing some stories with you all.

I'm still trying to decide exactly what I want to play, but I wanted run a concept by everyone. How do force users work around here? Would it be possible/allowed to play something unusual like a banished, force-sensitive Falleen Noble who was enslaved and then rescued by the Aing-Tii near the Kathol Outback? Assuming the story made sense, would it be okay for him to be someone who lived with them while recovering medically and began to learn about their culture and the way they use the force?

Thanks for your input!

[member="MantisEsq"] - It is entirely possible, yes. You'll want to watch carefully how strongly any abilities or knowledge you gained is earned, mostly because some of them like Fold Space can be heavily abused or misunderstood, but it is possible. Julius here trained with them for some years. There are maybe a handful of others, but your idea makes a good amount of sense honestly, so far as such arcs concerning the Aing-Tii go. And there is a Faction based *in* the Kathol Outback area filled with some lovely nutters who would happily help you I bet. A few of us in particular.

[member="Julius Sedaire"] ,Thanks for the heads up. I know the Aing-Tii and their powers are a little god-mode-y, that's why I wanted to bring it up ahead of time OOC to get a feel for how this community handles those things. I find their perception of time fascinating and I like the idea of a character who is rescued and healed who then repays his debts to the Aing-Tii in various ways, like going after slavers. The (solo) training aspect will let me get back into roleplay writing a bit before I dive into story arcs with other writers.

[member="MantisEsq"] - Great ideas all around... Julius is a battlemaster type, so I focused on Fighting Sight(roleplaying it as very similar to Battle Precognition, but a visual sort of 'seeing phantoms of potential actions' sorta thing), and the rare Emergency Eject button for Fold Space (it usually never ends well). Seems the key is, as usual, Wheaton's Law.

Now with Flow Walking and their perception of time, [member="Jorus Merrill"] has had several characters with abilities in that direction, and it seems the most widely accepted ability. Honestly, I think an FU skilled around Temporal relating abilities would be pretty fascinating, so cheers to that.

You're more than welcome to use Aing-Tii abilities on the board, just be mindful of other people's characters (which you've made perfectly clear you already are) and you'll be fine. As Jorus mentioned above, there's plenty of ways to go about using Flow walking and other abilities in a manner that doesn't cheapen your story and still fun.
