Back to Basics

It had been some time since Dusaro had a good, friendly hand to hand sparring match. In his case, some time was around two years at this point and he was sore for a good sparring partner. While he had found someone to spar with in [member="Sky'ito Yumi"] and had even offered to teach Ecani martial arts to her, he had not yet actually gotten the chance to make good on that offer yet. When his 'business' finally brought him back into normal space and he needed some time to unwind, relax and do something enjoyable for once he recalled that offer. Ringing up Sky, he figured out when and where and would arrive early as he always made a habit of doing. The place ended up being on a Silver Jedi world on his YV-929 Armed Freighter, the 'New Avalon'. Sky had been on it before a few times so she would already be familiar with its layout and where everything was, as well as what to look for.

The spaceport was fairly busy in spite of this particular day bringing heavy rain with it, water drops raining down hard from overhead in a thick curtain of rain. "Yeesh, pick lovely days for outings don't I?" Dus remarked to no one in particular with a wry look as he looked around the spaceport. He had to give it to those dock workers who kept on working and moving crates in spite of the rain that was coming down on them. Sure Dusaro would have done the same if that was his job, but he wouldn't be surprised for people deciding 'know what, these can wait' and just waited out the rain. Tossing those thoughts aside, he changed his thoughts to how he would do this little teaching and training session. Echani martial arts were something he had been taught since he was four years old, so this was going to be... Interesting to teach it to someone who was twenty one years old. He had already put some thought into it and more or less chose to 'wing it'. He was pretty sure that is about all his mother had done when teaching him, though with the personality that woman had it was not much of surprise. Thinking on all that, he awaited for Sky and her arrival.

Sukai had wondered what happened to [member="Dusaro Dresari"] in the last few years, though with her knighting ceremony and other operation along with Dus master doing... something, it was to be expected. Apparently he'd been going around on that armed freighter of his to do some sort of work, what ever that was, not that she really minded, not like her own life was full of 'just going to go to the outer rim for a unspecific amount of time'. Actually she wondered id Dus had gotten a goo look at the temple since the move, quite a lot of thing had taken place in that time, most notably was the fact her brother and older sister were not apart of the order. Maybe they could have lunch together some time? though first things first this martial art lesson.

At the moment the young Knight was standing around the nearby landing pad, soon spotting the familiar shape of a ship and Dus's force signature come into range. "Well at least he gets here on time, I wonder were are going to be training, I know the freighter has a decent amount of space... buuuut I'm not sure it is large enough for a full on spar". Perhaps they could stop at mothers Dojo, but that was all the way over in CIS space, quite a ways away from the Temple. Sh'd ask but had a feeling they would do the training here at the temple.

Dusaro had indeed gone 'poof' for a few years. Work called when work called, but he had not been in the main galaxy proper either. He had been in the Firefist galaxy actually, a satellite galaxy that orbited not far off that was just within jump distance of the main galactic disk. What he had been doing there though, that was a whole different matter entirely and quite the long story. Good to share at another time, over a few drinks or the like. Thanks to where he had been though, Dusaro had missed out on most everything that had happened recently in the Galaxy. He caught pieces here and there but he was missing the majority of the 'story' as it were since he had been gone. He hoped nothing super drastic had happened while he was gone at least.

When Dusaro spotted Sky heading over in the rain he gave her a short little wave, walking on over to her with his usual grin and relaxed manner that he always had. "Yo, hey Sky how are ya? Been staying outta trouble or stirring up mischief?" He asked with a joking tone, though he was in fact curious as to what she had been doing while he was gone. He was rather out of touch after all and he liked to stay in touch with his good friends. "Was planning on doing this outside, before it turned out that it was going to rain at least. Cargo bay is more then big enough though, especially with it being empty right now."

She gave the energetic Echani hybrid a small bow as he came out of the armed freighter, the rain not touching her body, a small force shield keeping the water droplets at bay. "Yo Dusaro, I've been doing well, been up to a little bit of fun here and there though unfortunately there has been nothing really overly important to tell besides the odd mission here and their". "well beside HK showing up to my knighting ceremony, do you know HK? former ruler of the metal Lords and what not"? It was honesty a very strange occurrence, but not something she was going to say no to, doubtful anyone else had a similar knighting ceremony, too bad the droid vanished as soon as he arrived, probably gone back to whats left of Corellia.

"Yes is it quite drizzly today, but this is a tropical planet so one should always be prepared for it", especially after several weeks without rain, then a down pour is to be expected. "We can do the sparing in the ship itself, saves us from walking all the way to the training halls" along with making things more private, if she wanted to keep one step ahead of the other knights and get that promotion to master any extra help was appreciated. "I borrowed some of my mothers clothing, sports bra and spats for our duel, unless there is some other form of attire we need to use".

[member="Dusaro Dresari"]

"I do not in fact know HK, i know of him though. Sorry i missed the ceremony, i was 'out of town'. Though why did HK show up, friend of yours?" He asked with a curious tone, not having ever met the 'Metal Lord' himself before, so Dusaro was more then a bit curious as to why such a being would appear there. Though stranger things had happened and probably for stranger reasons. "Peace and relaxing days are nice in their own ways wich i coulda had some of that recently but im afraid not. Maybe it is finally my turn to have some though eh?" Dus remarked with a light chuckle and a shrug. With his luck though, he didn't see it happening.

"That was the plan. Makes life a bit easier, that and i am used to training in the cargo bay of the ship. Where i got trained to do nearly everyrthing my parents taught me. Besides explosives. ...We did that outside and not inside the ship." Dusaro himself was not much worried about promotion, really becoming a Knight just meant he was going to have more responsibilities. It wasn't something he would avoid, but he wasn't the kind of person to chase that kind of success either. "That will work aye." Dusaro said with a nod, gesturing to head on inside and he would lead the way through the ship to the cargo bay.

"So, you know martial arts and hand to hand already, aye? What exactly do you know about Echani martial arts and how we view it? Knowing how much you know will help me start this little class."

"Well my sister has met him, once, though I would hardly even call the droid an acquainted, the guy even took part in the ceremony, igniting her saber and everything". She honestly was baffled by how things had played out, though over all pay no really worry to it, it was an interesting ceremony, one that nothing else could really top. "Rest an relaxation? is hand to hand combat sparing a form of relaxation to you? or art thou hinting towards other activities that may be more private"? Herself playing along with his somewhat joking attitude, even if it felt a little awkward.

"I would gather that, blowing stuff up in a confined space is a good way to lose you arm, don't even think our regeneration would help with a missing limb and I like keeping my limbs". Considering how much her older sister complained and bitched about her cybernetics when they stuffed up and needed replacement, not a prospect she wanted to deal with for 5000 years. Giving a small shake of the head she followed [member="Dusaro Dresari"] into the ship, getting a familial feeling washing over her, the small sight, "is my old cabin still up for grab"?

"Hmmm Martial arts, yes I practice Jin styles of it, my mother is a master in that field, hence why she runs a dojo, but Echani martial arts, from what I know its more to do with parrying, countering an opponents attack in a sort of dance". "Though it can still be use in combat as you train yourself to see an opponent and react to their muscle movements"

[member="Dusaro Dresari"]

It certainly sounded like it had been a rather spectacular event, though not having been there to see it Dusaro couldn't say. He was not one for much pomp and ceremony, he didn't particularly like crowds among other things. It took a seconds for Sky's joke to sink in as Dus's mind had been on a completely different 'track', but after the seconds it took to kick in he burst out with an amused bout of laughter. "Ha, ah no nothing like that. At least that is not where my mind was, dunno about yours apparently though." He joked right back, taking it in the humorous spirit it was intended as. "I thought it was a guys job to have his mind in the gutter, don't go stealing my job you." He added with a bemused look and shake of his head.

"Weeeell, having lost a limb i can confirm, does not help." He said with a flex of his right arm, which was prosthetic from the elbow down. "Though, it will stop the bleeding nice and quickly, that it will do. Nice thing about really fast regeneration, open wounds don't stay open and bleeding for long. Though that makes surgeries an annoyance. Medics complained about it a few times when digging out shrapnel. Its fine if you are in a proper hospital where they can use stasis fields and the like to stop the areas from regenerating, in the field though? Nooot so lucky." Dusaro, thankfully, had never had issues with his cybernetics. He also had went through a great deal of trouble to get a very good job done. Though it wasn't perfect, it was about as close as it could get. "It is still open yeah, never needed to use it so it will be how ya left it."

"Mmm... See. Your right that in direct combat, thats what Echani hand to hand is. Understanding your opponent and exploiting them. The idea of it being like a dance comes close to the real idea, but it is not quite there." Dusaro said as they stepped into the fairly spacious cargo room that already had a large area mat down for training purposes. "Its easier to show and experience rather than tell though." He said with a bit of a stretch before looking to her. "I am gonna go ahead and get into my sports stuff, don't bother with any protective gear. Won't need it." He would go ahead and get into sportswear, which really just amounted to tightly fitting shorts on his part and not much else. Wasn't him trying to show off or anything like that, it was just how Echani sparring was done. Didn't have to be done that way but Dusaro was a bit of a purist in that regard.

She gave a fake, shocked expression and the return joke Dus delivered, she was not often one to make snarky remarks hinted towards certain 'thing' but time among the Jedi had indeed soften her personality. She'd certainly changed a lot from the quite mask wearing, fighter who never talked to anyone and just focused on doing the task at hand. "Oh, to think I'd sink so low residing with commoners like you, my mother was right, I should have remained coped up inside my mansion and sough a more refined style of living".

"You arm, yes do not remind me of that, it makes my mouth hurt", a small flash back to the first biting attempt that left her with a chipped tooth, she should have gone for the neck instead. "I've had that a few times, though I often just try to avoid getting anything inside, usually why I wear chain mail like armor while fighting". "May not stop blunt force trauma but shrapnel has a hard time getting through, though unlike you my regeneration ability and other 'powers' need to remain secret, at least until I become a master". After all, sooner or later the others would realize she never seemed to age, though being an Atrisian/Jin helped sine they seemed to remain younger for longer, once she cracked 50 people would ask questions.

She took a quick glance into her cabin as they walked past, nice to see it had not been turned into a storage room, though she'd probably not be using it any time soon. She continued to walk behind Dus, listening to how he talked about how the sparing worked, the part about exploiting an opponent, her mother had developed a similar style of fighting able to anticipate an enemy attack. "Well I guess we just have to have a go and see if I pick it up, though when you say no protective equipment, does that mean my current outfit? it's casual but made from armor weave so technically it's protective armor". "Or we going to be changing into some tight outfits for the sparing match to come up", she remembered Dus talking about then when first discussing training sessions.

[member="Dusaro Dresari"]

"Mnyees, quite." He responded with a snooty, nasely tone that was considered 'posh'. Coming from him it was rather out of place and didn't quite 'fit', that was for sure. Dus had never been a quiet person in his life, outwardly he had not changed much. Though all sorts of things can happen under the surface without showing outwardly.

"Haha, i wonder why. Think before you bite eh?" He said with an arched brow and amused tone, remember that mishap with more then a bit amusement. Though it was anything but funny for her he knew, he still got a bit of a chuckle out of it. "Don't usually run into much blunt force trauma. I can count the amount of times i have seen someone use charric weaponry or particle weapons on one hand. Seen a few people swing hammers around though, oddly enough." And a vibrohammer was actually one of the last things you wanted to get hit with. The kinetic force it could impart through armor was something nasty. "True i suppose. I have the advantage of things being simple in that area."

"No armor aye, and something tight. If this was for practical sparring we would wear armor, but its for training. Easier to get across without it being in the way. Something tight fitting works, stuff like you would use to workout in a gym." Which for Dus, was shorts and a tanktop. Nothing crazy or out there, fairly plain and simple. He even took off the normal arm glove he had over his prosthetic right arm, making a mental note to be a bit more 'gentle' with any right handed punches he did. -That- would hurt. When she was ready, Dusaro would square up in the basic, beginners Echani stance and look over to her. "You don't need to copy my form, not yet at least. I wanna see how you fight normally and go from there. I will match your pace. Remember, around eighty percent effort." Dus said, letting her initiate the bout.

"Mynes what"? she did not entirely understand what he had just said, just giving a shrug as the two continued on their may into the freighter. She was not sure if it was some basic slang or she'd just misheard what Dus said, a small problem with such a language being ones second tongue, didn't help that she had a noticeable accent.

"Hey it's more then just that, hunger for blood is different from just regular hunger, the longer I go without feeding the more animal like I become, I don't think straight and act irrational". "Or would you rather have a 'thirsty' girl chase after you like a blood house looking to drink your blood"? Yes she intended it to sound suggestive, though she had painted it as not as dangerous when in reality having a blood stave vampire come after you was literately a life threatening situation. "Vibro hammers? that is quite a strange weapon but to each their own", though such a weapon would probably be easy to dodge, sounded like something a jaw enforcement team would probably use, if it was not for all the high tech breaching stuff.

Reaching the open area of the freighter Sukai stretched her arms out a little, getting a look over the area once more, "stuff that I'd use in the gym, my mother has a pile of spats and sports bras she uses while training, perhaps should ask her for some spares". If they fitted, it had been over 800 years since Kurenai was the same size as her daughter. For now a tank top would do the trick, luckily she had one of those one, for pants? she'd just go with her jeans for the time being, next time being prepared would be vital to make thing run smother. Turning back to Dus she followed suit, taking a very traditional Atrisan Marital stance, "gotcha, just feel for the opponent don't try to make and lasting but temporary damage".

Taking a small breath Sukai threw the first punch in the form of a small palm strike centered at Dus's chest, it was not heavy handed but fast, hopfully easy to parry.

[member="Dusaro Dresari"]

"Nothing, was trying to make a witty remark." He said with a light shrug, fairly used to the small miscommunications the two of them seemed to randomly have, though mostly over smaller things.

"Mmm... that sounds like only the fourth worst day of my life. The third being waking up after enjoying a good danger close mortar explosion while invading a Sith Fortress on Naboo, alongside Mandalorians. Long story that one." Also kinda funny, since not long after that the Mando's ended up working along side the Sith in something else. Never could tell what they wanted to do it seemed, those Mando's and that was ignoring how much they flopped Mandalore's. "Yeah, Vibro-hammer. Unweildy in the extreme for species with less strength, but if you ever see a Barabel or Trandoshan with one.. Do not let it hit you. Because me and you, we won't die from it. But you may not wish you were alive after wards either. That was the second worst day of my life."

"Mhmm, that kind of thing is what i typically use. Well, not a sports bra for obvious reasons, you get the idea." He said with a light chuckle and shake of his head. Dusaro was nice and relaxed, not showing any tenseness. There was also that 'lack of emotion' that he gave off. More specifically, feeling his actions and the like through the force was hard. It wasn't a force technique, it was one of the more unique and intresting side effects of Echani Martial Arts had. With the way it developed the fighter to think and keep their mental state, it made reading their intentions and plans harder.

A quick move from his left arm would indeed parry the open palm strike, Dusaro aiming to push Sky's arm off and aiming to push her 'back' a step or two but not moving past that. It was a bit of a challenge, he wanted to see how she would react to it.

"Okay", a witty remark? she still didn't get it, not that is mattered now with the sparing match underway. "Invading naboo? Mortors? certainly sounds like an ear wrecking experience". She would have to guess her own worst experiences would be almost loosing an eye of the Silver Jedi attack on Miral, though in terms of large scale combat zones Sukai was still largely new. The Mandos though, strange bunch, these days they seemed more like an empire or mercenaries then anything else, attacking and raiding Silver Space, helping the Sith invade Tython, but at the same time have members defending Tython while helping to liberate Commoner.

"To late for that, I remember a mission to the lizard home world, a fellow Jedi go stuck out of formation and I had to go save his ass, wound up being hit by said weapon, broke a few ribs, had to play injured until medical aid could 'heal' me". Not that she had to try hard, even with regeneration the pain of being clobbered in the stomach by a hammer was still painful, thankfully she was wearing armor at the time. Things to talk about another time, for now she'd have to concentrate on the spar at hand least be put on her before they could make any progress.

As her attack was parried Sukai followed with Du's attempt to push her back, but did it on her own terms, putting pressure on his arms from the palm strike and launching herself back a meter. With distance between the two Sukai would then get down lows, swinging her foot towards her opponents leg in a typical leg sweep.

The experince on Mirial was pretty close up there for Dusaro as well. He had a sith sword cut a good third of the way through his body starting at the waist, so it had certainly not been pleasant. With his bodies natural regeneration and all it was not fatal, but he had been recovering for a little while after that hit him. That as well as the toxins from the blade had messed with his head on top of all that. Still, it didn't rank that high as pain went. Mostly because he was to busy tripping out on what ever sith poisons the blade was infused with to feel much physical pain. "Not really. You would be surprised by how well your ears in combat block out noise from explosions that get close to you. The ones that land near you, you never hear at all. The old adage of 'you never hear the one that hits you' is in fact true."

"Ooof... My condolances." He said with a bit of a wince, knowing with painful detail just how much that hurt, espically regenerating from it. Nothing quite like busted organs stiching themselves back together to make you wish you had been hit in the head instead of the stomach. Duasro put that all aside though for the moment to focus on their spar.

Dusaro had been mostly on the defensive and remained so, this allowed him to more nimbly dodge the well aimed leg sweep from Sky. It also meant that she would have plenty of time to prepare for his first couinter attack, a quick forward step and a fast, agile kick with his left leg aimed at her center of mass. He was curious to see how she had been trained to react to such things, parry, block, dodge, counter? He suspected counter, from what he knew of her personality and having seen her fight. But that was just a hunch.

"Arigato", thankfully she had learnt force shielding and other protection powers in the mean time, meant that she could deflect such attack with more ease and prevent being injured in the first place. Still that was just a scratch when she compared it to what her older adopted sister went through, now that would have been painful, so much external and internal damage.

Coming out of the swing she re positioned herself in anticipation for Dus's attack, the sudden leg kick being straight and to the point, quite literately, coming for her mid section. Nothing over the top or fancy, another test of show and one that she would counter with... well a counter. Kneeling down slightly Sukai placed her hands to over lap with one another, using an open palm to bock the attack around the knee, but it wasn't a simple block. She had put just as much force behind it as her earlier palm strike, attempting to catch Dus before his kick could work up the peak amount of momentum to make the kicks impact hurt less. In addition such a strike may unbalance an opponent espaically on a kicking attack leaving them open to another strike.

[member="Dusaro Dresari"]

'Oh?' Dusaro thought as his leg moved in a nice, traditional quick kicking motion. It was a nice way to crouch down and block the force of the kicks blow. Most of the force of this style of kick was generated from how 'sharp' the snap was from the knee down, carefully placing the foot into the opponents body with a fast motion. Because of this there was never a exceptionally high amount of force behind it, but it was still quick. So when his leg contacted her palm strike, it would feel light but still carry a reasonable amount of force, though not enough to do much to her stance with how she was braced for it.It still put him off balance, just not quite as much as one would normally expect.

Her block had been so well done that Dusaro naturally flowed into the followup, a one foot kick. As his left leg rapidly pulled back, he rotated his body from his hips and foot, his right leg leaving the ground with a quick small jump before rising and coming for Sky's other side. This kick had more force and speed behind it, but Dusaro was also competently in the air now. This kind of move was not much of a surprise, it was something most people reasonably versed in martial arts could do. What was surprising was how graceful and dexterous he was with it. It was a clear show of how much he had been trained and how much hard work and effort Dusaro had put in to mastering the form over the years.

The knelled down in such a position the coming kick from [member="Dusaro Dresari"] would have been hard to block or parry, her slightly awkward position no leaving much room for movements least become unbalanced. Also with the speed behind the roundhouse like attack trying to halt it's advance would only cause a broken bone. She had no real option but to doge the attack, Sukai throwing her head back, her body arching as the leg kick came, her eyes just a few inched away from Dus foot as it passed over her head.

Though having let the attack pass she was not in the best position to get back up, her body still filled with momentum as it leaned back. Such was not idea for make a strike but she could do a feint. Quickly raising her leg she made a kicking like motion, aiming to make Dus keep his distance but also to use the momentum to flip herself back up onto proper footing.

[member="Dusaro Dresari"]

Dusaro was fairly impressed by her dodge, though he only had done it because he was sure she could deal with that level of attack. Rather skillfully, he brought his left leg back down onto the ground and would finish spin of his body before planting his right foot back onto the mat. In all honesty, Dusaro's balance was not good enough to follow up with another attack, not after she had unbalanced his left leg.While doing a third round house kick was something Dus was capable of, he had to have good balance to pull it off. Though it did show that Sky didn't quite have the foresight to see that, leading to her overestimating him a bit. Even so, Dusaro thought it was a good call for her to make the feint. Just because he didn't have the balance needed to make the attack, didn't mean another opponent wouldn't. or that Dusaro himself might not have attempted a 'hail mary' and gone on the offensive while being off balanced.

Dusaro debated momentarily, should he press the attack, since it would take Sky just a moment or two longer to recover than him? Or ease up. He decided to ease up, Dus aimed for this to be a light training for them both to get used to how the other fought in hand to hand in a general sort of way. No need to go all out or find out how Sky reacted in a desperate pinch, so instead of pressing what might have been an opening, Dusaro relaxed and allowed Sky to fully regain her footing and make the next move.

Sukai continued her flip, eyes keeping a field of view on Dusaro as her body contorted to perform the backwards flip, half expecting him to follow up with another assault as soon as her action came to a close. She could tell the mans balance was a little off, but with the rate he as moving both of them would have recovered almost at the same time. So in a sense she was a little caught of guard by the Echani taking a backwards step and giving her room to maneuver, getting proper footing on the ships surface. "Remember, this is just a test, not like mother training were you get chock slammed into the ground the moment your guard is let down".

Taking a balanced stance the young Jin started another attack run, charging forwards, seeming to line up a straight punch, arching her arm but, though at the last step brought her left leg up in a short but swift kick aimed towards the Dusaro's inner thigh. This, regardless if it worked was followed up by a a shoulder tackle, crude but effective in what one sought out to accomplish. Even with her more finely tuned martial arts Sukai as not above using some basic street moves to catch an opponent of guard or push an advantage, not that she sough to harm her fellow Jedi, just give a solid shove.

[member="Dusaro Dresari"]

If Dusaro intended to keep the assault going, he would have continued the kick instead of stopping but as Sky reminded herself, that was not the purpose of the sparr. Though full on, hard as you can go full contact sparring was plenty fun, wasn't the first thing you wanted to do with someone you hadn't fought with at all before. Wouldn't turn out well. He made a slightly bemused look at her remark as he let her recover and prepare her next move, curious about what it would be. As Sky proved to be proactive, it did not take long for her next move to tome.

The charge was not to much of a surprise, Dusaro moving to deftly block the incoming punch only to have her move in for a kick. While he didn't mind getting kicked it was not exactly enjoyable so he would quickly step back and then get a shoulder tackle for his trouble. While he could probably have forced her back, caught her or the like if he really tried, Dusaro didn't. He fell back with the force and aimed to pull her along, then toss her back behind him. He was curious to see how well she would handle being grappled and wrestling, if she had any experience in it or not.

The move Dusput on was not something she had not experienced before, it was a basic throw that most people used against someone going full on. If used right one could really upset another opponent, but there was one small issue, Sukai was much lighter then Dus, meaning the throw while off putting was easy to ride through and get a solid footing. Still that was not what she was interested in as she could tell that her fellow Jedi was showing her the mindset of Echani martial arts, not so much countering and attacking but dancing, making a move to change things in a sense and make the fight flow a different way.

As the toss reached it's apex Sukai actually too the initiative, pushing herself up and over, performing a tight flip, landing in such a fashion that allowed her to counter with a sweeping kick. Though the kick was not aimed to do damage but instead push Dus away in a sense, herself trying to follow along the same lines as her sparing partner and Echani marital arts, it was a dance each person had to do their part, neither could focus on victory least screw up the whole thing.
