"Maynard, this is Ryv, we're halfway to the point of contact, but whatever hidden artillery they have up there waylayed our push. We should be fine, just falling a bit behind. Keep your eyes out, seems like our intel is a bit dated,"
The response was delayed, the attention of the Jedi Knight shifted toward the pulse of three blaster bolts headed to his center mass. Instinctively cutting and swinging the cobalt blade to deflect two away from him before sending the last into the throat of the opposing militiamen, ending him swiftly.

Replying via the helmet comms, Outrider relayed back.

<"Copy, Paragon. I'll see if we can't find follow up and find this arty."> Maynard replied, shifting his gaze toward the Alliance Commandos who'd embarked with him up into the fortifications.

<<Commander Treicolt, I'm gonna try and make some noise to get some eyes off you. Think you can get yourself up on that last wall and take some heat off our advance? We're almost out of their arty range. Should be an easier push from there.>>
<" Copy, Dare. Let's try and take out the guns honed in on Ryv but yeah, I'll move up."> A far cry from the Jedi who could barely wield the saber he held with an adept skill now that crash landed on Brentaal. Luckily, the Galactic Alliance was also a far cry from the fledgling Grayson Imperium he'd fought alongside then. The Core was seemingly in better hands all around. Pressing down on the button to disengage the

<<Don't worry about him, Pop. If the stories are true, he'll be exactly where we need him to be when we need him,>>
If Maynard was anything, he was reliable and persistent. Few could maybe take the mantle of a harder worker among the Jedi Order, even Ryv Ryv conceded that several times. Nor was he far off of being the most reckless, for better or worse. Delving into the dampener smoke he was quick to ascend the last layer of fortification.

Fastening his saber hilt to his belt again he scaled it by hand, using the inbuilt crushgaunts of his armor to maintain an easy grip of the wall's face before he eventually managed himself into the next rampart again. Dropping a Null grenade at his feat he carried himself as an instrument of chaos behind the enemy lines. Blaster bolts piercing through the smoke that managed to hit him were more akin to a dull smack than a piercing shot. However his cobalt saber cut through it all the same, utilizing his swordsmanship for half the work load and an eagerness to delve into the gritty for the other. Showing this as he moved through the smoke and into embrace of another militia men. Twisting his body and rearing his leg up to plant a kick into his abdomen that sent him tumbling over the rampart to a less than glorious death below. A display cut short when a militiamen moved into wrap Maynard up in a tackle around his stomach.

It was move that caught him by surprise but he managed to dig his feet in and kick his foot, slamming his knee into the man's abdomen three times before he could feel the grip of his arms loosen where he'd ignite the saber through his chest once more before disregarding the corpse aside. His aural sensors caught a read on the concealed artillery position and he began to make his way along the wall toward the position.

Manned by three less than adequately armed soldiers, Maynard disemboweled one with his blade before the other two let off the controls of the gun, caught by surprise they slinked away in fearful abandonment of their posts. Slicing through the barrel of gun in a sever of orange superheated melted metal, he disabled the gun.

<"Ryv, Dare. You all should be clear to move up."> Maynard sounded out through his comms.

The Caridan's trigger finger relaxes and he lowers his gun. Beads of sweat drip from his forehead, but are quickly absorbed by the lining of his helmet before they reach his eyes. The adrenal shot was beginning to wear off, but it had held long enough to keep the two going as they held out against the Coalition's attempted counterattack.

<"Damn, that went better than expected,"> Pop jokes, straightening his posture from the hunkered position he'd been stuck in throughout their firefight.

Despite the 360 FOV, Dare still glances over his shoulder to respond,
<"Hell yeah.">

<"I wouldn't start kissin' quite yet, we've still got some ground to cover,">
both Dare & Pop turn their heads in the direction of the voice to find their heavily armoured squaddie looking down at them from the parapet.

<<Ryv, Dare. You all should be clear to move up.>>

<<Copy that, Commander. Fire Team Ryyk will move up to provide suppressing fire,>> he pulls his rifle back into a readied position and looks between his two companions, <"You heard him. Move up, find cover and give 'em hell. Cover the other team's advance to the anti-air emplacement.">

Without the need for a response, Dare hops onto a powerpack crate and onto the opposite parapet of the trench in a fluid movement, with Pop close behind him. With the help of their power-assisted armour, Lark is able to make a running jump to clear the narrow line and tail a few meters behind.

<"Light 'em up, Lark!"> Din calls back, tossing himself behind the remnants of an artillery gun as a streak of enemy blaster fire sweeps across the field to stall their push. The heavy commando digs a boot into the mud to come to an abrupt stop. Several bolts glance off his mobility shield as he stands in the open and levels his weapon to his hip. With minimal delay, a barrage of red bolts pours from the barrels of the reaper.

Under the cover of Lark's rotary fire, both Dare & Pop and the Alliance Rangers who'd been accompanying their push emerge from behind cover to take more calculated shots at the defensive line around their main target,
<<Fire support established. Now's your chance, Ryv Ryv .>>

The shock was apparent on the Senator’s face, whether a ploy or not meant little to Lanik as he took in the figure. The senator of Corellia. Only the force knew what Kaito had done to gain such a lofty position. Lanik knew just how far the Atrisian was willing to go to further their own goals. It sicked Lanik to his very core. Someone who’d promised to represent the people, who was supposed to provide, to protect… Nothing more than a traitor seeking goals of their own, and anyone else be damned.

Eyes darting between the two droids, Lanik focused once more on Kaito ignoring the two though his grip on his lightsaber noticeably tightened. Every movement, every twitch, Lanik took in. The crime lord would not be escaping on this day.

“This goes beyond the Senate, beyond even the Jedi itself.” Leveling the hilt of his lightsaber towards the Senator, Lanik took a step forward. The droids matching it and entering a defensive guard to protect their owner. “I know what you did to the Desert Dawn, I know who you are Maou! You reign of tyranny is over. Come peacefully and this need go no further than this.”

For once Lanik looked at Kaito not through the eyes of the physical but going beyond. Staring at the man through the force itself. The interior of the office fell to the background, the droids presences becoming null as Lanik focused on the living. The office reeked of corruption, of greed, of malice.

One could only hide from the truth for so long, for what was created in the dark would eventually find itself in the light. Kaito’s veracious self was laid bare before Lanik. The man reeked of the dark, at first Lanik thought it to be the Senator’s own but there was a presence. One that immediately bore down on the Jedi’s conscious. Memories Lanik once thought buried sprung unbidden to the surface. Memories of a torture chamber with a lone twi’lek that had sought to steal what Lanik was. Sought to break him. To mold him into something of her own making. Months he spent in her and the Sith empires grasp. For months he knew nothing but pain, torment, with little hope for salvation.

Snapping back to reality, the room coming back into focus. The galaxy itself settled back into place around the Jedi. The wind felt as though it had been knocked from Lanik as the truth dawned on him. “And you collude with the Sith. @Shimrra run! Get to the Jedi temple!”

Clutching his left hand into a fist Lanik drew it through the air. Reverberating the force obeyed, a couch in the far corner of the room lifted free from the ground. It hurtled through the air like a proton torpedo before slamming into both of the droids carrying them into and through the opposing wall. Dust flew into the air, the case holding the sword Kaito had been staring at fell to the ground, glass shattering.

Gala inhaled sharply. She loved her swords, but their ultimate weakness was using the flat of the blade. A move she would have exhibited a few years ago, but several scars and shattered swords later - the emerald woman had sponged up her learnings. Expertly, she shifted their angle to three quarters of their fullness, concentrating sharply on the incoming shots from the salvo after salvo the woman delivered. A majority of them were caught and absorbed by the kinetic hungry blades, others missed and whizzed past her shoulders, others were absorbed and scorched her pearlescent armour.

Seconds stretched on, and her mirialan's actions were well-practiced but quickly became exhaustive. Much of the evasive maneuvering depended on her genetic flexibility and she quickly found the flaw in this fancy armour with its limited defensive abilities. With a pant heavy on her lips, she dropped to a knee when the woman paused to speak. Smoke spiralled from their relative impact areas, and somewhere on her skin there was a burning sensation that Gala couldn't place or attribut to just one spot on her flesh.

She probably looked like a dalmatian by now, with all the shots the armour had absorbed and accepted. Fear, adrenaline, and sheer will kept her from feeling the pain.

The stim packs helped.

"Yeah, yeah. We're all monsters. Some of us are just paid a bit more than others."

Gala wagered that she was on salary, and this chick was a mercenary hopping from job to job, scraping up credits wherever she could.

Though the way she spoke was on another level -- fighting for something beyond credits. A suggestion that a droid remarkably close to the muscle pumping inside her ribcage had made once upon a time. It gave the green-skinned woman a jolt of...something. Motivation? Perceptiveness? Awareness?

The woman gave her the grace to stand again, and Gala took the opportunity to lunge forward, deploying her spike launchers to grapple around the woman's legs, hopeful that it would land, and gave a heft yoink back towards herself.

"Do all you space wizards spend time on dialogue when fighting?"

His eyes narrowed and fell on the Jedi's lightsaber when the man spoke that name. The name that should never be uttered within these four walls. Already the young Jedi Knight knew too much. There was nothing else he could do. They both needed to die. The darkness flowed through him as he allowed himself to become what his Master had trained him to be and what over a decade of using the Force and bending it to his will could provide the untrained an uninitiated. He didn't care how Lanik found out who he was, but it didn't matter. But his tug on the Dark Side opened him up to more truths.

The Sith had infiltrated the Alliance. And now neither could leave alive or he would be dead by sunrise. The droids leaped at the two Jedi but were swept aside by a flying couch that crashed through into an empty room. As the Jedi's padawan turned to sprint from the room Kaito grimaced and let out a snarl.

"Now you've gone too far Jedi Knight Lanik!" He released a powerful bolt of Force Lighting, catching the Padawan and lifting her off the ground and into the wall near a window. He held her there, electrocuting her with the Force. He was beginning to smell burnt flesh and her screaming filled the room.

"Remember, you did this to your Padawan Knight Lanik," he shouted as the lightning caused the lights to sputter and then burst, leaving them in the darkness that was only illuminated by the occasional sparks dancing across Shimrra's body. Unknown to Kaito, from her torched cloak emerged a smoking but still very much alive amphistaph slithered towards Lanik.

Ryv’s comment made sense about air support. It made more sense than she wanted to admit, but it was their current situation. Her saber moved, deflecting away a blaster bolt. It shot towards makeshift shelving and fell on the shooter. There was no reason to kill these men, they deserved a chance to be tried or a chance to join the Alliance.

Allyson continued to push forward, farther than she should have. Her mindset was locked into keeping moving forward, the troops that had followed her struggled to keep up. They decided to hunker down and allow the Jedi Master to stand in the front. Their shooting cover fire was easier to manage than trying to run after her.

Hearing Ryv once more in her comm, she was distracted, and one of the blasters clipped her shoulder. The Corellian cursed heavily as she threw the force at the attacker and tossed him into a wall. Ryv was soon at her side, and she was eternally grateful. “Don’t know how you do this.” It was a good experience, but the Shadow was starting to prefer her undercover missions.

Continuing to hold her ground, the woman started to grow slightly impatient. She wanted to move again, mostly to keep herself out of the line of fire. “Any word from Maynard?” Another blaster aimed to snipe the Corellian where she stood, the bright blue blade crossed in front, deflecting it back towards the attacker.

The Hawk's guns roared to life. The 8 Ion cannons fired a volley at the pirate's frigate, followed by the 8 turbolasers and the 2 fixed torpedo bays. The anti-fighter batteries began to fire in every direction they could, claiming many pirate lives in the opening shots. Moments later, the shock of the surprise attack turned to the chaos of a swarm of fighters and freighters charging the Hawk, firing on the lone ship. The frigate began to turn to fire, when a second volley broke through it's shield, and it began to take hull damage. A few shots impacted on the Hawk's own shield, but most that did came from fighter or freighter-based guns.

Dozens of small explosions filled Constantine's view from the bridge. The pirate fighters were being torn apart, and the freighters weren't fairing much better. The Hawk's shields were holding so far, even as it was rocked by several hits from the frigate. The flashing lights of plasma being fired between the two ships was almost as hypnotizing as it was terrifying. The captain could feel his heart pounding, and sweat starting to trickle down his brow.

The captain's eyes followed a torpedo towards an area of the pirate frigate that he guessed housed the main reactors for the ship. The torpedo disappeared into the frigate's damaged hull. A small burst of light quickly followed where the torpedo had struck. Moments later, Constantine winced as a second, far larger and brighter flash of light filled his vision. When the light faded, all that remained of the frigate was debris. The remaining smaller craft began to scatter, though many were still being destroyed by the newly freed turbolasers and ion cannons.

Adhira's usually stony expression softened slightly when her captor raised her blaster. The Senator thought for sure she was dead now and closed her eyes tight, wincing at the sound of the first shot... but she was fine. She opened her eyes again and watched in horror as the green woman turned the alien who'd likely just broken her wrist into a pile of ash. Adhira started to wonder how much more frustration she could cause before she too was ash.
"I am severely overworked, and under fu-."
Her eyes widened momentarily as her brain worked out the end of that sentence. The other pirates seem genuinely terrified of their boss and the realization had already dawned that Adhira's rather flippant dismissal of this attempt to take her hostage might actually get her into a spot of trouble. Admittedly, Umedara made a good point about abandoning ship... well- from a pirate's point of view, anyway. The older woman clenched her left arm as she became more aware of the pain shooting through it. "You'll forgive me for not believing you," she brandished her injury at Umedara, "but I suppose I have no choice."
This much was true, Adhira would have to go with the pirates and hope someone heard her call for help. Adhira started in the direction of the cargo bay door but stopped suddenly before reaching it. Her hands shot up to her ears, despite the pain in her wrist, and snatched off the large jewels hanging from her lobes. She snatched the ring from her right hand. Then, in one painful motion, she tossed the valuable jewels deep into the bowels of the cargo bay. They could have her, but she'd be damned if they got her jewels too.
"If you're flirting, I'm flattered, but I'm afraid I have no inclination" Adhira's usual snark returned, placing her uninjured hand in Umedara's at her insistence. She would follow her onto the new ship. Though she would be careful not to get in a hurry.

In an instant no sooner than he’d flung the couch into the droids, Lanik saw the violet bolt of lightning that illuminated the room. Lights above popped as the energy arced through the room slamming into Lanik’s apprentice. The one he’d spent the last year alongside, training them, treating them as if they were his own sister.

Time seemed to freeze as Lanik could almost feel the bolts on his own flesh, memories of his capture after Kintan still fresh. The wounds reopened, the excruciating pain of Voyance’s lightning. Yet at the end of this one was one who meant harm to Shimrra. Lanik had told her this wasn’t her fight. Since they’d landed on the planet he’d told her to turn back. To not follow him further, yet she remained stalwart. She didn’t deserve the agony that Kaito was putting her through.

As the cascading bolts of electricity ended, darkness overtook the room yet Lanik could still see Kaito. A malevolent aura now permeating the room. Walking over to his apprentice Lanik kneeled near them, taking up her head in one hand, another pressing against her neck. Her pulse still there, but weak. “I’m so sorry… I failed you Shimraa.”

Lowering his apprentices head, Lanik felt a slithering on his leg, and as he looked down to the amphistaff that slithered its way towards his left hand Lanik nodded. The creature itself was also charred, but it too craved to avenge their master. To bring an end to the one who would hurt them so. “No Kaito, you’ve gone too far.”

Inhaling once, Lanik let himself open to the true power of the force. He was the amphistaff, he was the two droids beginning to rise and reenter the chamber, he was the very air around them. The waves of light that filled Lanik’s form extended to Shimrra as he left a palm on her head for a few seconds longer.

Spinning on his heel Lanik reached to the lightsaber in his right hand. From it a blue-white plasmatic blade sprang to life, illuminating his form. The Jedi’s head raised as he looked down upon the Atrisian. It started with a single step, then another, and where a third should’ve been Lanik blurred forward, the blade of judgment blurring to appear above Kaito swinging down to cleave the Sith in two.

"Do all you space wizards spend time on dialogue when fighting?"
She heard something inside her head, like a leaver pulled, or maybe a button pressed, or a sudden snap was heard, all she knew was that Jarael finally woke up, but deep inside her mind as if all the strength the thing that controlled her body focused only on moving it around as it want it to, like she a was puppet attached by a thousand strings, but for a brief moment her mind was free of the strings. Her eye rolled over the place she was and her face was taken by a confused expression, she didn't recognize that place she was in... but at the same time it was familiar to her.

Without even ordering it, her entire body moved, her right hand went backwards like a stick, taking her whole body with it, arching her to quickly lean on her arm and letting her legs rotate up, doing two somersaults backwards in the direction of her diagonal. WIth her awaken eye noticed the sensation of the wind crossing her ear quickly passed like a plasma shot, but instead it was in the shape of hooks, allowing despair dominate over her expression when she finally stood up, not even knowing how her body did it without her commanding to raise the hand she held faithfully in her hand. SR-47 towards a green-skinned woman.

Her index finger sank into the trigger of the mandalorian gun, letting the shots sing across the air as the gun tried to follow the enemy's steps and pace. But her feet, making it resemble a tap dance class, made those melifluous dance moves backwards, hitting the floor and dancing more and more into the market's direction while shooting.

“It can't be… how am I doing this? WHY AM I DOING THIS!?”
She screamed that sentence, loud and clear and without ever expecting it, inside her head she seemed to hear a seductive woman's voice answering her.

“Shhh… go back to sleep, let me take care of this. She is a Ren bastard, they are all Ren bastards. First Order needs to be destroyed, you need to kill her and her friends, kill them all. Let me kill them all. ”

She felt sleepiness taking over her mind again, almost closing down her eye, as if she wanted to go to sleep more than anything in her life, her mouth murmured in her mouth in a calm but audible voice.

"That's right... You are from the First Order ... you deserve to die."

And maybe it was because the last thing she saw were the faces of the dead helmets around her that made her open her eye open-wide once again, or maybe it was the sound of her gun fire singing, she didn't know, with her eye opened in time to see her other hand rushing through her body like a exorgoth, closing on the pistol grip on her waist, the SR-17, pulling it out of her holster and lifting it next to the larger gun at the top.
“Stop… no, no… How do I stop? No, I don't want to sleep! ”
But it did not stopped, the gun joined her pal as her other index finger sank on its trigger.

=====================

Fable took a deep breath and stared at the datapad on the desk in front of her. Amazing how such a little thing could carry such significance. And as with all things bearing significance, there were complications. Her choice was to decide what to do with it. If Kaito found this, he would have to silence her, regardless of the truth of the contents within. It would destroy him as a senator and any legitimate form of business. This was the kind of dirt that private investigators would kill to find and use in campaigns. Didn't even need to be substantiated. The rumors and tarnish would destroy an election campaign.

But she didn't care about winning or losing elections. She cared about justice for those murdered aboard the ship. She cared about the truth, whatever it said. That was what mattered. But she had to be prudent. She'd been on Coruscant long enough to hear horror stories about those who didn't take precautions with information like this. So, she copied the contents and sealed them, before transmitting them directly to her lawyer- If anything should happen to me, release these files to the Chancellor, the Judicials, and the largest news agencies you can get hold of. After a moment, she paused and added another line. Better send them to the Sector Rangers main HQ outside of Alliance space, just to be sure.

With that done and her insurance in play, she set some water on to boil to make caf for the marshals when they arrived. As the water began to heat, she paced the confines of her office. The chime on her desk rang and she leaned over to press the button.

"Senator, two Marshals are here to see you."

"Thank you. Send them in, please." She took another deep breath and set on an extra two cups of caf, then grabbed two datapads from her stash and wiped them clean, uploading the results of the files into the two of them. Right now, that was her best defense. Information proliferation. As long as there were more than one person who would have to be quieted for this to go away, she had some modicum of protection. If only she could get in touch with Knight Dawnstar and have him come meet with the marshals as well. But none of her attempts at communication had gone through. She turned back to the door as it hissed open.

"Marshals, please come in, take a seat. I'm Senator Fable Solborne. Care for some caf?" She paused for a moment to push the original datapad across the desk towards them. "I returned to Coruscant this evening and found this in my inbox. In it are the results of the investigations of Jedi Knight Lanik Dawnstar. Based on his accounts, he has found evidence tying the destruction of the ship to Senator Kaito Kiyoshi. I don't know what to do with it. I have a backup of the information with my attorney to be released should anything happen to me and I made two copies for each of you. Beyond that..." She shrugged and collapsed into her chair and gestured blankly with one hand. "I don't know. What does it mean? Is he right? I've tried to get in touch with the Jedi, but nobody seems able to reach him."

Umedara stood up straight and curiously watched as the Senator took off her jewelry, "uh, I-" and then she thought better of it. The would-be pirate just tilted her head to one side, "well, I can see why you wouldn't, after all. This is probably the worst introduction any two people could have." Patiently, she waited and watched and then furrowed her brow, "if that's flirting then I have to seriously work my game, Force help me." She hadn't been aware - but then humans were weird like that.
One moment you blurt out an omission the next moment you're flirting, who knew. With a delicate touch, Ume aided the Senator into the Scylla as she ship broke away from the Evenstar. The Evenstar was set on a two-part detonation, the first being an IFF Confuser as the Evenstar would be 'confused' by Alliance signatures, this would set off the second part and that was the emp/ion blast. Of course, it would have to mean that the Alliance craft was close enough to set it off.
Meanwhile, on the Scylla, Umedara set the Senator up in a rather spacious room. "It's the best one we have," it was afforded a lovely port view, a bed, a desk, and a chair. She turned over her shoulder when one of the crew whispered in her ear. "Right, well, we can play it another way - let's head to Fondor or somewhere close in CIS space." If she couldn't get the Senator to Sotta, she could at least play instigator. "I'd offer you water but I'm gonna level with you, the water on this boat sucks, so do you care for a drink or - well no, the food here sucks too unless you like insta-bread."
The Scylla hadn't made it too far from the Evenstar when another of the crew spoke. Umedara leaned over and eyeballed the Scylla's small hangar bay. "New plan, Senator if you would," she asked politely with a hand extended to help the woman up onto her feet, "we have plan number three and all I ask is that you try not to get my boat shot at."

It was a touching display and would ultimately be their last. After tonight neither could be left alive. He could tell the Vong girl still yet breathed but she would have to be a secondary thought because he was set upon by Lanik. The beast of a man was faster than he'd anticipated, spurred on by the power of the Force. Kaito took a step back in surprise and reached out his left hand, calling the blade that had fallen to his hands. Wrenched in the Force the blade slid from the ground and spun violently, slicing through the air. The hilt reached his hand just in time for Kaito to activate the vibro-weapon.

Kaito grunted as the blades locked. Lightsabers were supposed to have weightless blades. So why did he feel so much pressure? He could feel the anger in the Jedi now. It must have been where this strength was coming from. Kaito struggled at first, the blade shaking beneath the overwhelming strength of the Jedi, but as he called on the Dark Side he felt his strength grow steadily. He pressed forward, pushing free of Lanik and his onslaught. In the brief moment of freedom, he leaped backward, catching his chair in the Force and flung it at the Jedi.

She'd never been stuck with so much power in her life. Almost immediately she'd blacked out, though she knew she continued to scream. When she came to, lightning still arced across her body. Had Lanik propped her up? That was when she remembered the situation they were in. Kaito, Maou, the Desert Dawn, all of it. Her eyes shot open and she called on the Force to give her strength enough to stand, to support her Master. She wasn't done yet. With a grunt of effort, she struggled to her feet and made her way to a better vantage point, using the wall and the window to support her. She wasn't nearly the fighter Lanik was, but her ability in the Force was a match and her control over objects was superb. She would catch the Sith off-guard with a lightsaber throw, she just needed to find the right moment.

She found it when he flipped away from Lanik. She made a quick prayer in the Force gripped her lightsaber hilt and threw it in a straight line at the Sith. Just as he landed blade activated, illuminating his horror in a yellow-white glow. The blade pierced through his upper right pectoral, near his shoulder. Finding purchase she pulled up, nearly slicing his arm from his shoulder. He howled in pain, his now yellow eyes catching the Padawan in his gaze. He screamed and let loose a quick, powerful bolt of Sith Lightning. It shot through the air like an arrow but hit her like a freight speeder. She felt the force first, but the shock was quick to follow. Glass shattered around her and suddenly she was soaring through Coruscant's night sky, a trail of Sith lightning blowing past her as the bolt finished its course.

She fell and she wasn't quite sure she would be able to survive.

"I'm sorry Master," she whispered as she fell.

Instead of outright cleaving the Sith in half, Lanik’s cleave had been caught midair by a metallic blade. On impact sparks from the two weapons filled the air between the Jedi and Sith. Through the shower of sparks, Lanik’s eyes never left Kaito. The Jedi was filled with determination, that determination gave him strength, it gave him power, it gave Lanik everything he needed to see this fight through till its conclusion.

Leveraging his strength against the Sith, the knight thought the Sith would soon buckle, only for Kaito to recover their footing and slip from beneath the blade lock. Falling forward having been pressing down Lanik’s blade sliced through the Senator’s desk as though it were butter. With his guard thrown off Lanik couldn’t stop the chair flung at him. It might as well have been a proton torpedo with the strength it had been flung at.

The wind escaped Lanik’s lungs as he was lifted from his feet, carried across the interior of the room and slammed into the wall hard enough to leave a crater. Sliding to the ground, Lanik caught himself with his left hand. Though in his right his weapon had gone missing. What bit of light he had, now extinguished as the hilt lay somewhere in the room.

Another light soon illuminated the chamber, the blade of Shimraa. Looking up, Lanik’s eyes locked on his apprentice in what could’ve been her final moments. Instead of running she’d sought to aid him. Why? Why had she done it? Lanik could do nothing but watch as she was snatched away from him, her body flying out the window.

Kneeling, Lanik was breathless. Shimrra had fallen out of sight in a fall that very few, could survive. Drops of perspiration retreated down Lanik’s cheeks as he bowed his head. One thing Jedi were taught was to let go, to not let the sorrow and pain consume oneself. For that was the path to the Dark. Something that Kaito had already given himself over to. Something that Voyance had sought Lanik to do as well.

Breathing in, Lanik did not let himself falter. From his kneeling position, the Jedi darted across the room, his left arm reaching out to snag Kaito’s left. A violent hiss escaped Lanik as he stretched out for the Senator and from up Lanik’s sleeve, the amphistaff would extend to wrap around and squeeze Kaito’s arm ensuring the Jedi stayed locked on as he seized his wrist.

Using the leverage from both the unusual creature, Lanik tugged on the torn arm to pull the Sith towards him. Right-hand curling into a fist, Lanik brought it up. In the punch was everything Lanik loved. Shimrra, The Republic, civilization. They all empowered the fist that aimed directly at the Sith’s face. On impact, the entire room would reverberate with the impact.

Thus commences his tragedy

The streets of Coruscant were a busy place even during rainstorms. People flowed through narrow riverbeds formed between the ecumenopolis' skycutters. Rainwater slowly pooled in grooves on either side of the street, coursing back to the artificial reserves it had come from in the first place. Like many of Coruscant's inhabitants, the rain was caught in an endless cycle of sentience's creation; laboriously conserved by the efforts of countless souls all working in tandem, to some extent ignorant of each others' interactions, to strive against the entropy that should otherwise consume them.

Among them was an arkanian, Bernard of Arca, in his own way struggling against the enduring clutch of destiny, so unwilling to relent any fate from its tyranny. For what could one mortal being truly effect against those most earnest tides, when every action could only ever proceed precisely as their plan divined? And so it would come to pass once more on this day of storm's deluge, that the strings of fate be played by their cruel architect to set in motion events that would tread the same well-worn paths of aeons past.

The arkanian kept his jacket pulled over his head as a shield from the rainfall. The quiet prattling kept a steady yet erratic rhythm he found quite soothing among the bustling soundscape of Coruscant's upper levels. He'd been lucky enough to find his way to a more exposed path along the outer edge of the great dais that held the Senatorial district. Every now and then the rhythmic prattle was interrupted by the trees overhead, rare greenery afforded only to the richest of Coruscant; and those who came into their employ.

A furtive shadow had settled over the arkanian's mind. Uneasy darkness that steered clear all rest from his weary body. Though he felt the tiredness within his bones, the haze that held his judgment at odds with clarity, sleep continued to elude him. He'd spent an hour ill at ease trailing elusive dreams in the pilot's seat of his X-wing, a home in lieu of a proper residence, unable to ever fully find their embrace. Unable to bear insomnia any longer, he left for Coruscant's streets. He'd wandered for hours now, carried aimlessly by feet that seemed unable to tire, to the seat of galactic power. When he finally arrived at the edge of the massive district, he embarked towards its central structure aboard one of the countless shuttles.

The Senate's colossal dome loomed in the backdrop of the district's sea of skycutters, a silver sunset on the horizon of the durasteel meadow. It grew ever greater as the shuttle drew nearer, eventually coming to dominate the window view with its grey walls as the flight route's final stretch was reached. Darkened glass panes rolling with rain murkily reflected the shuttle's frame as it drifted past on repulsor engines, a whining ghost against the massive structure.

Bernard sighed away the mesmerizing hold of meditation he'd been lost within, rising from his seat in preparation for disembarkment. Movement at the edge of perception caught his gaze, however, before he could turn into the shuttle's central aisle. A dark form had plunged past his window just a stone's throw away.

The arkanian thought for a moment that perhaps exhaustion was playing tricks on his perception, but when he reached out through the Force he felt the very real presence of distress. It echoed from both above and below. Whoever had fallen past was barely tangible within the Force, their presence faded and veiled, whereas far above emotions blazed with unbridled intensity. Recognition tore through Bernard like electricity as his senses washed over the clash of wills that howled out within the Force from above. He felt boundless darkness, hatred, and pain awash inside the Senate grounds, yet, above all, he found him. The saboteur from Kuat.

A rush of urgency overcame the arkanian. With leaping steps, he rushed from the shuttle through rain and wind into the Senate. The water was still trickling down his clothes when he slid past the closing doors of a turbolift, surprising both its occupants. With impatience, he tapped away at the controls, letting the Force narrow down all possible floors to one singular choice. He shifted his weight from one leg to the other as he waited, roused from inertia by the boundless excitement of the hunt. There would be no escape for the wicked when the sword of judgement proclaimed its verdict, not on this day.

That stupid padawan. He cursed, looking down at the mess of cybernetics that she'd cut through. Sparks popped and sizzled and with every pop, he felt the nerves still connected quiver and stab. He was still bathing in his rage and blinded by red when Lanik was on him again. Before he could slither away something slithered around his arm and drew him to the Jedi. He couldn't beat the man in strength, that was certain, but maybe at range he could have the upper hand. But this...This was where he would be ended if he couldn't get out of this grasp. He hissed at the hissing thing around his arm and then...

CRACK.

BOOM.

FWUAHP.

Blow after blow the Jedi's fist slammed into his face, powered by the Force. Each blow ripped his cybernetic arm further and further from its cables and servos until it finally tore. Kaito screamed in pain as he was sent tumbling to the floor. The amphistaff that had been wrapped around his cybernetic arm hissed acid at him, the potent and deadly stuff hissing as it fell across his face and chest. His screams mixed with the sound of the acid eating away at his flesh as he struggled to crawl away from the Jedi. In desperation, he let loose a furious stream of Force lightning. The acid had destroyed one of his eyes and so he kept it shut closed and it was quickly distorting his face.

Back when he was a child in the temple, Lanik had always preferred to use his fists. Back then he’d never been able to answer the question. Or at least he hadn’t wanted to. The real answer was because the sensation of ramming your fist into another was fun. It drew out a primal enjoyment. At least it had in his youth, now as an adult. In this moment, it wasn’t about enjoyment. It wasn’t about revenge for his padawan. What this was about was the salvation of the Galactic Alliance. About ensuring the destruction of a Sith who sought to tear down everything that had been worked for. Each blow dealt against Kaito sent a reverberating shockwave through the interior of the chamber. Each blow drew blood and threatened to crack the Senator’s skull.

With a final strike, the Jedi knocked the Sith free but kept the cybernetic arm which was quickly cast aside, the amphistaff retreating back up Lanik’s arm and to safety. Standing over Kaito, chest rising and falling, Lanik eyed the treasonous individual. If Kaito had been anything but a Sith perhaps Lanik would’ve pitied him. Perhaps he would’ve offered aid.

Turning his back on the Sith to go to the window where Shimrra had last been, Lanik felt a tug at the back of his subconscious. Without even knowing it, the Jedi’s body was moving, guided by the force. Left hand rising and opening up in a claw. Across the room, more violet bolts of lightning erupted from Kaito seeking to strike down the jedi. Yet, as they met Lanik’s palm they halted for a second. The force energy itself that Kaito threw out absorbing into Lanik’s very being.

After his engagement with Voyance, Lanik had sought to learn the technique of tutaminis, yet this was his first time ever using it. Heat rose up in his body, his skin grew hot to the touch as the energy went through him. Groaning, teeth-gritting, Lanik shoved out, his left hand extending. The lightning aimed at him now reflecting off his palm and back into the prone Sith.

Groaning as he fought against the dark, Lanik took a step forward. Each step brought him closer to the Atrisian. Each step brought him closer to the dark storm’s origin point and made holding it at bay all the more difficult. Hair wild, Lanik reached out imagining the hilt of his saber in his palm. As if his thoughts themselves manipulated reality the hilt sprang from its position near the doorway and found its way to its owner.

Clasping his hands around it, Lanik brought the blade to life. Its glow overtaking that of the violet as it rose into the sky. It was only in these moments, the ones before dealing the final blow to Kaito that Lanik truly realized his love in life. He loved democracy, he loved civilization, he loved the galaxy and no longer could he stand by and let tyranny threaten it. He would not let another Mirial happen, not another Kintan, never again. The blade of judgment then began its final descent.

Her attempt to lasso the pale vixen found no purchase, and the grappling hooks fell unceremoniously to the dirt at the shooter's feet. Gala's brows knit beneath her helmet. That was frustrating. The chord slithered back through the dirt to her bracer.

Everything that happened after that was purely defensive from the Mirialan. Teeth clenched, she dodged as many shots as she could but quickly reached her limits. Her HUD was reporting significant damages, even through the Absorbital Coating. Her arms were aching. She quickly opted to sheath her swords, which were quickly proving useless against the salvos, and opted for a personally mounted shield. A blue, shimmering crescent hovered around her arm, and she made herself small behind it while still darting from spot to spot to confuse the targeting systems of the SR-47.

With the protective barrier erected, she reached for the shoto-sized version of her sword, giving it a quick up-down check of it's weight, levying it, before she thrust her arm out into the space not covered by her shield. The blade whirled through the air with directed precision, it's trajectory right to the thigh of distraught opposition.

Her opponent was screaming, reeling in contention with...herself? The emerald warrior allowed herself a moment to blink in confusion before she darted forward, leaping into the air and activating her jetpack once again. From above, she tried the grappling hook again -- this time, aiming for the wrists of the pallid warrior. If the lasso worked this time around, Gala'd stay airborn and drag the shooter in the direction of the other Alliance troops. Toward the Jedi.

"You're not fighting The First Order, lady!" She shouted from above, her voice modulated through the helmet. This was a Force user, right? Maybe she'd be less enraged if she mentioned something about other Force Users. "This is The New J e d i Order and Galactic Alliance."
