The breeze in Ilic carried a different scent than Coruscant. It was clean, earthy, the kind of air that clung to skin and hair with the faint musk of damp wood and sun-warmed leaves. Since her recent relocation to New Cov, Eve had felt an immense weight lifted,. The city hummed with life, yet nature always felt a breath away, pressing in from the edges. Compared to the suffocating smog of Coruscant, it was a total blessing to be able to be here all the time. It was still strange, waking to birdsong again instead of speeders. Strange, but immensely welcome. She had missed it too much.
She adjusted the pack on her shoulder as they made their way past the Temple grounds and toward the overgrown path that led out into the jungle. The old training ground they’d heard about was supposedly just a half-day's hike away — long abandoned, reclaimed by vines and moss. Some said Jedi trained there during the old days, others claimed it had simply been forgotten when the temple fell into disrepair.
Aris walked alongside her, the boy who had once upon a time perhaps intimidated her with his stoic visage and manner, but after seeing much more together already Eve had learned to recognise something quietly steadying and fortifying in him. He didn’t fill the space with unnecessary words, and she liked that. There was a softness to his presence, like cool stone beneath feet; firm, but never harsh. In truth, it felt like he had always been like that, even since the 'droid incident'.
They hadn’t said much since setting off, but Eve didn’t mind the silence. It gave her time to settle her thoughts. To reach out through the Force and feel the whispering threads of green life around them. She caught the rustle of greenery overhead, the flit of a wing, the curl of a vine. In the corners of her senses, that loving warmth of Tigris was right there, encouraging, empowering, as it always was, established and fortified by their newfound bond.
A branch arched overhead, gnarled and twisted, heavy with pale blossoms. Eve ducked beneath it, letting her fingertips brush one of the petals as she passed. It left a trace of something floral and bittersweet on her skin. The plant reached back for her, gently; a curiosity rather than a warning. She smiled faintly.
The further they walked, the deeper the green became, vines thicker, the air heavier, as if the jungle were wrapping around them slowly, not with menace, but intimacy. Like it was watching. Listening. Testing, as always. But she knew what to expect now, and it felt like more of an invitation.
"Thanks for inviting me, Aris," she said finally after a while, shooting him a soft smile. "I'm glad we can do this, and here."
