- Versatile: The Mk. V Blackblade armor was designed to be usable in almost every environment one might come across in the galaxy, save for the most inhospitable zones known to civilization. The armor can also be camouflaged to better blend in with whatever environment a Blackblade is stationed at, whether it be forests, deserts, tundras, or even under the ocean.
- Resilient: Ensuring the survivability of the Blackblades on the battlefield is one of the most important tasks of the Emperor. A strong and healthy soldier is a loyal and tenacious soldier, and a robust corps of experienced veterans is far superior to a constant influx of untested newbloods. Thusly, the Mk. V armor is packed with everything a soldier needs to survive and kill on the battlefield.
- Electronically Sealed: To prevent armor from being unlawfully scavenged off of battlefields, the Sith Emperor has designed the Mk. V armor to be electronically sealed once a Blackblade has suited up. This is accomplished via specially trained officers known as Quartermasters, who hold the technology required to lock and unlock a Blackblade's armor inside specially crafted cybernetics. The Emperor has also fostered a sense of self-maintenance in the Blackblades, with each soldier owning their own suit of armor and charged with its upkeep. Thus each individual suit of armor is biometrically linked to one Blackblade at a time, and cannot be interchangeably worn.
- Joint Weak Points: While most of the armor is sufficiently layered with protection, the joints of the arms and legs are noticeably lax on armor plating. This was done for the Blackblades to achieve considerable mobility in athletic situations, and to achieve full articulation when bending, kneeling, jumping, running, etc.
- Close-Proximity EMPs: The Mk. V armor is protected at both far and medium-range from electronic pulses or other ionic weaponry, but enough sustained close-range bursts to the suit's countermeasures can and will eventually override them. The helmet contains more protective material than the rest of the suit, but only by a slight margin.
- Lightsabers: There's not much that can stand up to the omnidirectional cutting edge of a lightsaber and the Mk. V has none of those resistant materials like beskar or phrik. To put such expensive and rare materials in the armor, even for the private army of the Emperor, would've been seen as a monumental waste of credits. When faced up against a Jedi or other lightsaber-wielding Force User, a Blackblade's only hope is that there are enough bodies between them or that they're in possession of anti-Jedi weaponry.
- Thermal Gel: While the thermal gel protection in the Blackblade's armor allows for the Guard to withstand more direct damage, it also reduces mobility with every hit taken as the gel hardens upon impact. Over time this can reduce the soldier's mobility to such a degree that replacement is inevitable.
Fear.
Terror.
Brutality.
Power.
These words have become synonymous with the name of the Emperor's personal army, the infamous Blackblade Guard. And nothing encapsulates those primal feelings better than their signature armor, black as the darkness between the stars and just as cold. Over the decades the Emperor has constantly tweaked and improved upon the armor worn by his most loyal servants, ensuring that they always remained at the forefront of technological advancement.
This latest series of armor is most possibly his magnum opus, perfectly suited for any eventuality and robust enough to keep his favored soldiers alive to execute his will.
Blackblade armor consisted of a black gammaplast composite, quadruple-layered to a dense, highly impact-resistant finish worn over a hermetically sealed black body glove. High-tech electronics built into the system give them a wide array of tools at their disposal; targeting sensors were built directly into their helmet to afford them an asymmetric advantage in low light or even smoke-obscured conditions, while their helmets constantly broadcasted crucial battlefield data to their officers to provide them a comprehensive overview of combat conditions. A Blackblade Commander's helmet could even calculate the outcomes of various strategies in a condensed time with advanced computer models, which provided them with streamline recommendations based on predetermined victory conditions. This information was restricted to the commanding ranks to avoid distracting the Blackblade soldiery while they were fighting. Additional technological features included a wireless data antenna and an atmosphere filtration system.
A telemetry device built into the armor emitted active signals programmed to cascade over the battlefield and then return to provide accurate environmental data which is then fed back to a Blackblade command center across an encrypted data channel. The right forearm gauntlet had a built-in data storage module with an access port, while the corrugated body glove that was worn under the quad-folded gammaplast armor and Shell Spider silk had an internal atmosphere. The utility belt contained power cell ammunition as well as a variety of explosive ordnance.
The armor also enhances the mandatory cybernetics installed in every Guard's body, mechanical bracers, and shock absorbers in the knee and hip segments making long falls and far leaps much less damaging to internal joints and ligaments. Their armor is also electronically sealed to prevent looting by enemy soldiers and makes recovery of fallen Guards easier, allowing for eventual repurposing.
