PRODUCTION INFORMATION
- Manufacturer: Breshig War Forge Consolidated.
- Affiliation: Breshig War Forge Consolidated and Strill Securities.
- Material: Duranium frame, reinforced Duraplast reinforcements, electronics, Glop, and missile components.
- Modularity: Can be equipped with either an ion or baradium charge. The warheads are easily changed even in the field. Missiles ship with both warheads.
SPECIAL FEATURES
- Explosive Type: Variable Baradium charge/Variable Ion charge.
- Guidance Mode(s):
- Active Homing:
- Pre-launch: The missile downloads sensor data, targeting and tracking information of the target as well as the IFF codes of all friendly assets in the area from the launch platform before launching.
- Launch: The missile acquires a sensor lock on target and begins accelerating toward the target.
- Midcourse: Using active sensor and scanner data from its own sensors, the missile determines whether to pursue the target and detonate on impact or in proximity of the target or to attempt to intercept the target's path of motion. At this stage, the missile can switch to Home on Jam mode if the amount of interference is too high such that it loses its original target. If there is no interference yet the missile has lost track of its target, the missile will revert to Inertial Guidance. The presence of hostile point-defense is also checked for, determining what if any terminal phase maneuvering the missile carries out. At any point during the midcourse phase, the missile defaults to inertial delayed active guidance mode.
- Terminal: The missile expends the remainder of its fuel in a sustained high energy acceleration toward the target, detonating either on impact or in proximity depending on what approach and if any terminal maneuvering was selected by the missile during the midcourse phase.
- Control Guidance:
- Pre-launch: The missile downloads sensor data, targeting and tracking information of the target as well as the IFF codes of all friendly assets in the area from the launch platform before launching.
- Midcourse: The missile receives updated targeting and tracking information from the launching platform via an encrypted frequency hopping comms link. The missile determines whether to pursue the target and detonate on impact or in proximity of the target or to attempt to intercept the target's path of motion. Detonation mode and exact flight path can still be programmed by the launching platform, however. The presence of hostile point-defense is also checked for by the missile's sensors, determining what if any terminal phase maneuvering the missile carries out, though the launch platform can change this at any point during the midcourse phase. If at any point in the midcourse phase the missile loses communications with the launch platform, it reverts to home on jam guidance. If for whatever reason there is no hostile source of electronic interference, the missile merely attempts to locate a hostile target to engage.
- Terminal: The missile expends the remainder of its fuel in a sustained high energy acceleration toward the target, detonating either on impact or in proximity depending on what approach and if any terminal maneuvering was selected during the midcourse phase.
- Home on Jam:
- Midcourse: If the missile switches to home on jam targeting during the midcourse phase, it will identify the strongest source of electronic interference that does not bare a friendly IFF signature and lock onto it.
- Inertial Guidance: Utilizing a laser gyroscope system to calculate distance travelled, the missile checks it against the previously computed distance to target and then initiates detonation once the missile has reached that distance.
- Inertial Delayed Active Guidance: The missile follows inertial guidance till the end of the midcourse phase, where it changes to active homing mode. This is useful for engaging targets at the end of the missile's range band, where its sensors, scanners and tracking systems may not be accurate enough to maintain a good lock and track.
- Active Homing:
- Detonation Mode(s):
- Airburst: The missile detonates above the target for a more even effect on target whilst also being theoretically less impeded by obstacles.
- Proximity: The missile detonates while the target is in the missile's blast radius.
- Impact: When set to detonate on impact, the warhead detonates as a shaped charge in the case of the Baradium charge or a focused ion energy blast in the case of the ion charge.
- Post Terminal Self-destruct: If for whatever reason the missile does not detonate once the terminal phase boost is complete, it will detonate automatically at that point.
- Propulsion and Maneuvering:
- IR suppressed thrust trace dampened vectral equipped ion-atmospheric hybrid drive
- Etheric rudder(s)
- Defenses:
- Communications Suite: When connected to compatible systems, the communication suite is an auto-negotiating, frequency hopping system with a self-modulating encryption key, making it extremely resistant to jamming and interception. The comm-lasers can mimic this by rapidly shifting their broadcast spectrum.
- Comm Unit
- Comm Laser
- Backup Communication Systems:
- Sensor, Scanner and Tracking Suite: The missile creates a composite sensor picture by cross checking data from all of its sensors when in guidance modes where it actively uses the to acquire/track targets.
- Dedicated Energy Receptor
- Electro Photoreceptor
- Long-range Heat Detector
- Long-range Energy Scanner
- Magnetic Signature Sensor
- Gravity-wave Anomaly Tracker
- Silhouette Signature Tracking
- Countermeasures Compensation Computer: The C3 analyzes any countermeasures the target deploys, such as jamming, "dummy" drones, flares or chaff, and predicts the target's path. The C3 continues to make minor adjustments up to the microsecond before the missile impacts.
STRENGTHS
- Low-profile: The missile has a IR-suppressed, sound dampened atmospheric-ion drive and etheric rudders scaled down for use on a micro-missile, giving it a low sound and IR profile, which makes it harder to detect and potentially harder to evade and/or intercept.
- Fast and Maneuverable: The missile is both extremely fast and maneuverable, allowing it to potentially track and successfully engage anything from preternaturally fast and maneuverable humanoid targets to particularly fast and mobile vehicles.
- Good Tracking: The missile has good sensors and a fast processor combined with sensor fusion, which gives it fantastic tracking capabilities. When backed up by its inertial navigation system, the missile rarely ever misses a target.
- Lethal Blast (Baradium Warhead): The missile a lethal explosive radius of 6 meters. It has an extremely high damage potential, capable of vaporizing objects within its effective radius form the sheer energy release, and causing intense concussive damage to anything out to 12 meters.
- Powerful Ion Charge: The grenade's ion charge is notably high output one, capable of disabling electronics, droids and even some vehicles out to six meters either temporarily or permanently.
- Focused Blast: The impact mode for both warheads is an incredibly powerful directed blast easily capable of dealing damage past armor and doing significant damage to shields, considerably more so than the 'blast' detonation modes.
WEAKNESSES
- Sensor Range (Control Guidance mode): The missile's range is very much affected by the range and resolution of the sensor suite of the launch platform.
- EMP/Ion: Though well protected against EMP and Ion damage, should any damage bypass its defenses, the missile's electronics would likely be fried.
- Micro-missile: While positively lethal, micro-missiles are still limited by the fact that their smaller warheads pack.
- Volatile (Baradium Warhead): Baradium is a volatile substance, stray rounds and the like can set off the grenades prematurely.
- Protected: The Ion warhead is naturally notably less effective against targets that are protected against Ion weapons. This includes but is not limited to targets with combat deionizers, those with ionic or molecular shielding and those with reinforced duraplast armor.
DESCRIPTION
The Striilir'ika-M is essentially an updated version of the Striilir'ika made using the new series of missiles which are based on a scaled down version of the framework used for the company's larger concussion missile equivalent and assault-grade ordnance. This gives it an extremely impressive speed and maneuverability, a low sensor signature and notably excellent detection, targeting and tracking capabilities even over its predecessor which already had these qualities in spades.
The new warheads are considerably more lethal than their predecessors, able to meaningfully, though not significantly damage subsystems on starfighters and heavily armored vehicles. The new focused blast mode gives it considerable armor penetration capabilities with both warheads and the new airburst mode can help mitigate cover when detonating in blast mode.
Micro-missiles are still limited by the fact that their smaller warheads pack considerably less of a punch than conventional missiles, however. Additionally, said smaller payloads are also affected by Baradium's volatility and the prevalence of ion shielded equipment.
As with other missiles using the new framework, the missile's range is very much affected by the range and resolution of the sensor suite of the launch platform when fired in control guidance mode. In addition, though well protected against EMP and Ion damage, should any damage bypass its defenses, the missile's electronics would likely be fried.
A variable detonation mode modular missile with a choice of either a baradium or ion warhead, however, is a lethally versatile tool that would be of great use to a soldier in the chaos of the modern battlefield to such a degree that its flaws are easily overlooked.
