Private Bringing Calm to the Storm

After Kahlil had left the meeting room with her and Jonyna Si Jonyna Si , Valery decided to stay and talk to the Cathar Knight. It was an important discussion to settle, but she wasn't going to just ignore what happened either. His frustration and anger had been overwhelming, and as his wife, she was going to make sure to talk to him about it. She wanted to know how he felt, and give him a chance to get anything he needed off his chest.

Having felt his presence in his office Valery made her way up there and stepped inside. She closed the door behind her, locked it, and briefly looked around, still not having said a word to her husband, who was behind his desk. Seeing the pictures of herself, the kids and family photos made her smile.

Then there was the macaroni art, and she briefly thought about the triplets.

Still silent, Valery walked around his desk, her eyes focused on him, and stepped behind Kahil. She leaned in, placed her hands on his shoulders and gently squeezed down.

"Love you," she finally said, to break the silence. "Are you okay?"

As a Jedi, there was nothing more important than keeping emotions in check. To act out in emotion was to be human, but it was something they weren't supposed to do. It was why he removed himself from the situation. The moment he could no longer keep himself in check was the moment he needed to step away. Sitting in his office had helped cool his mind, but now his gaze shifted towards where his wife had stepped in.

And he smiled.

"I'm alright. How did things go?"

"It went fine, but... there was a lot I had to explain to her. She didn't know the Code at all, which...I don't understand why her mother had never once at least mentioned or covered it." Valery sighed but stopped herself from talking about that more. Instead, she leaned in and kissed his cheek, before turning around to sit on top of his desk, right in front of him.

His desk was pretty high up for her, so her legs dangled and she idly kicked them back and forth.

"I hope she didn't strike too much of a nerve. Well, I know she did but..." Valery sighed and ran a hand up through her hair. "What I'm trying to say, is that I hope you're not still feeling tense?"

"If you want to get anything off your chest, I'm listening. It's just you and I in here."

Kahlil_Div2.png

"I'm fine, trust me." Kahlil gave a brief smile as he closed his eyes, leaned into her kiss a little more. He was calmer now, much more than he was when he left. To think that there was such a disconnect from the Jedi they had. He leaned back in his seat then, letting his head rest against his chair. He was tired, now. Real tired.

"It's important for the Jedi to not fall under the idea that they all have to be a perfect, single type. But it's frustrating how little she seemed to care about those who came before. I'm not sure what to think, honestly."

"I always trust you, but I also worry," Valery said with a very sweet smile, meant to provoke some warmth to let the negativity from before fade away. She then watched him lean back into his chair, clearly exhausted and the emotions from the meeting were down there too. Especially the frustration over having a Jedi Knight so oblivious to the fundamentals of the Jedi. How could a Jedi never have even learned the Code at all?

Regardless of which era, that was such a basic thing.

"I agree though, and it makes me realize... a lot of our current Padawans and Jedi weren't even around a few years ago when we were fighting the Maw. Maybe we should organize something to make our Jedi more aware of what happened not all that long ago?" She asked, her eyes fixated on him.

"Babe... you look really tired. I could handle dinner and bringing the kids to bed today?"

Kahlil_Div2.png

"It's important to know the past to make sure we don't repeat it, but I don't think we should make an assembly to show off our scars. The regular lessons should talk about them. That's all we need." The Jedi of the new generation were born in times of peace. Grew in times of peace. It was the best thing he could hope for, if he was being honest. There were Jedi who still knew what war meant, but it let the children remain children.

Rather than die on the front line.

His expression saddened for a moment as he eventually opened his eyes again. Gave her a still very tired smile.

"Alright, love."

The moment Kahlil's eyes opened, Valery was suddenly surprisingly close, leaning forward with a beautiful smile on her face to greet his gaze. Her finger reached forward and poked the tip of his nose, "Boop," she said with a grin. "So tired you're not even focused on where I am anymore?" She winked and leaned back to sit upright on his desk, after shifting around some of his stuff like the brat she sometimes enjoyed being.

"You're right though, but I was thinking more along the lines of... an opportunity for them to ask questions. I don't think classes currently cover the war very well. We don't need to make it about heroics, battle scars, and all that. Just a chance for our Jedi to understand our history."

"Really make them understand why we don't want another war."

Kahlil blinked slowly before biting back a laugh. He'd never been the one booped before. And he certainly didn't expect it. He'd of said something more with it, but she did bring up a good point about what they were originally talking about. So he sat up, reached over to fix the things she was moving around as he hummed in thought.

"That's a good point, really. They are things we can't forget. .. I just don't feel like it's something we should burden the Padawans with. If they're Knights, or at least adults, yes. But.. I'm really tired of having to bury children, love."

Valery smirked when he repositioned things she displaced, and spun a pen around her finger on the desk, which knocked others away and made it look a lot more chaotic. She knew what she was doing teasing him like this, of course, but the fire in her eyes made it clear she loved to challenge him a bit and mess with him.

She only made sure not to knock over his pictures or anything made by the kids. But pencils and other little items? Well oops, one fell right off the desk between them and she just looked at it, and didn't move to pick it up.

"Well, isn't that exactly why we should talk to the young ones too? Of course, not to bring up anything graphic, but I know what I was like when I was young and many others are like this too - they want to be heroes and prove themselves. They might enjoy the thrill of meeting our enemies for the first time. But it's that desire that leads to us having to bury them."

"I think, if anything, the Padawans are the ones who should really understand that war is terrible."

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil didn't even look to the pencil that fell. Instead, the Force shifted. Plucked it from the ground for him before it settled back where it was supposed to go. He smiled, but it was a very dangerous looking smile. A 'try me' smile.

".. That's a good point. But putting fear into them doesn't feel right either. .. It's far too complicated, isn't it?"

Valery stared back with a dangerous grin of her own to let him know she accepted his challenge. But to hide it a little, she focused on what he said as well and held out a hand for him to take, "I could set something up if you trust me to handle it well," she smiled and squeezed his hand after taking it, whether or not he offered it.

"It's complicated but if we don't do anything, I can almost guarantee you that we'll be handling cases of very young Padawans being exposed to far more danger than they can handle."

Whilst holding his hand, Valery flicked the same pencil onto the ground with her free hand, very much on purpose, and all while she looked him in the eyes.

Try me.

Kahlil_Div2.png

He squeezed her hand in turn, giving another weary smile. This was quite the contradiction between what they were talking about and how she was acting. He wasn't sure what to make of it all. "I always trust you. You're technically my senior as a Jedi and a council member anyway."

He pulled her hand up to kiss the back of it. The pencil never fell, rather hovered a couple inches from where her finger had flicked it.

"Though you're certainly looking to get in trouble now, aren't you?"

Mixing this conversational topic with her antics was perhaps odd, but she felt that it had the intended effect. From annoyed, angry, and tired, he suddenly seemed a lot more lively. He played along, stopped her from knocking stuff off his desk, and oh there was that dangerous grin too. Valery smiled, happy to know she could still brighten up his mood this much, even after being together almost felt normal.

But as normal as it was, she was never going to take it for granted again.

"Is that a fancy way of trying to call me old? You know, I still look like I'm in my 20s and you do too," she huffed playfully before she picked up the pencil and pointed it at him.

"Me? I never get in trouble." She waggled her eyebrows and put the pencil down at an angle to make sure it wasn't lined up nicely with his others. "But if I am... what are you going to do about it?"

"This is my desk now."

Kahlil_Div2.png

"Oh I hope I don't look like I'm in my twenties. I'm not that young anymore." Epicanthix aged half as fast as the average human, after all. He did smirk a little, though. Glanced down towards the pencil as she once again displaced it on his desk. He wasn't too picky about things being laid out the way he wanted. As a spacer, that sort of habit was pretty quickly broken. The same couldn't be said when someone was purposefully trying to mess it all up. Even his wife.

Especially his wife.

"There's only one thing you get from this desk now, love."

Valery snickered at his reaction, "Maybe not early twenties but you don't look your age either. It's that Epicanthix blood and being a Force User. Though..." she gained a teasing smirk now, "The silver hair and beard does make you look older too." She winked and blew a quick kiss. "More important is that we don't feel old. We are way too young for that," she said before it was more teasing time.

Or, well, being a brat time.

She looked him straight in the eyes while she continued to mess with his stuff and challenge him. Not just because it was fun to her, but it also seemed to have lifted up his mood a little.

"Is that so? But you looked so tired..." Valery grinned and shifted to sit down in his lap, her hands coming up to rest on his shoulders.

"Sure you can handle me?"

"Every day of the week, babe~"

She was feeling bold and a little cocky today and wasn't trying to hide it either. His calm smile was met with quite the grin that matched the dangerous sparkle in his eyes, and her hands softly and teasingly ran over his shoulders to squeeze down. But when he brought up business here in his office, she chuckled and flicked some hair over her shoulder.

"Is that so? Well, I guess I'm off the hook then, huh?" She waggled her eyebrows, leaned in closer, and gently placed her hand against his cheek while her thumb brushed across his lips.

"...I'm not going anywhere, though."

Kahlil_Div2.png

"Mm, no. You're not off the hook."

Kahlil stood up then, casually stepping away from the desk outright with quite the playful smile on his face. No, he wasn't going to do anything inappropriate in his office. But the ship ride back home was a lot longer than it'd normally be.

"You going to sit there all day and make me go home alone?"

"Wait-"

Valery got up to her feet herself, dashed over really quickly, and wrapped her arms around his body. She hugged him awfully tight and pulled back to look up into his eyes for a moment, her gaze a tad more serious but loving all the same. "Glad to see you smiling again, love," she said, knowing she had been teasing him a lot up until now.

She didn't want him to think that he couldn't be frustrated or angry around her.

"Let's uh, take the long way around to get home, and I'll make that smile even brighter," she winked, grabbed his hand, and pulled him towards the door of the office.

"...you know the messing up of your desk was all just jokes, right? I was going to clean it up right after..."

Kahlil_Div2.png

He just smiled the dangerous smile as he squeezed her hand and stepped ahead of her to lead the way to their ship. So they could get back home. "Oh we are certainly taking the long way back home." Kahlil didn't make mention of anything about the jokes. She'd sealed her fate the moment she decided to toss his pencil on the floor.

"No more dallying. Come along, love."
