The Mentor
The Jedi Master's eyes returned to Daella as she spoke. A small smirk crossed his face.
"I would, if I weren't afraid she'd kill me if I even thought of asking her that" he replied jokingly, before sighing.
“There is no emotion, there is peace,” she recited. Josh paced behind her, and nodded slightly.
"I have spent my entire life, ever since I was five years old, reciting that code...." he said quietly. "I remember it like the back of my hand. My entire life has revolved around this Order, revolving around that Jedi Code... But yet... There are things about it that even now, I cannot wrap my head around"
"Everyone.... Big or small, Jedi or Sith, Human, Twi'lek, Ewok, Toydarian, Cold Fish, Charismatic Pimp, it doesn't matter.... Everyone has their own vision of peace. Emotion... Emotion is a part of us. Yes, if misused, they can lead down the path of the dark side... But does it really mean we have to cut ourselves off from it?" he asked.
He closed his eyes, as he spoke....
"Emotions are part of what makes us human, they're what makes us a living being. Without them, we're just.... Drones. Robots. Cyborgs. I don't think the code is telling us to forsake emotion... Hell, if that was how we were taught, I'd be a hell of a lot different right now. I've always been taught to control them, not deprive myself from them. And... I think I've done a hell of a job. I mean... I don't believe in forsaking our emotions, yet... I serve only the light, not a single thought down a dark path has ever crossed my mind in the 16 years I've been here. And I will serve this order faithfully, in the purest of ways possible, until either someone strikes me down, or you guys tell me I'm not needed anymore...."
He looked at her again.
"But.... Everyone believes different. And everyone has a right to it. That's why I won't push it, because that isn't my right. The only one that has the right to do that is you" he said.
And with that, he turned to walk out. His break was over. Back to work. He turned to look back at Daella one more time.
"Just remember something... You may be a Jedi, but you are also a human being. And besides... The whole cold thing.... It scares people" he said with a sad smile. "Maybe that's what you're going for... I don't know. But I have a feeling that inside, you're an amazing person, but few know that because you push away all emotion, and it... Well, it's an offsetter. Even I'm uneasy, nervous after every word in fear that I might have said the wrong thing.
And with that, he walked out. A part of him doubted that it would help her any, if anything it would probably ensure that they never spoke again. Another part of him, a small part of him, thought perhaps it might. But regardless.. He had work to do. He pushed those thoughts aside, and duty came to the forefront once again.
